[Q] Who has NEVER had a reboot? - Thunderbolt General

Folks -
Obviously the Tbolt reboot issue is real. However, I have never had one. Ever. Not One. I've run a variety of ROMs and Radios, though I've mostly used a BAMF variant with an adrynalyne kernel. Currently on BAMF 1.7, 4.4.7 kernel, not overclocked, with the 605.7 radios (both CDMA and LTE). I am in an almost total 4G area...I live in central NJ, and commute to Princeton, NJ, spending only about 20 minutes in a 3G area in between. I also go out to SF quite a bit, which is obviously blanketed in 4G.
So my question: What's driving the reboots? Is this a matter of the Tbolt not playing well with some 3G hardware in the towers (or vice versa)?
If you've never had a reboot, please post and let us know how your tbolt is configured, and where you tend to use it.

I'm stock since mine broke and I get no more 3G anywhere. However running stock before root never had a reboot, running rooted with BAMF Froyo never had a reboot. Running GB I did have reboots few and far between. Most of them because the kernel was overclocked. As long as I installed a kernel and ran it 245 min to 1024 max it never had an issue. Once I tried to overclock then it would happen. The phone is fine for me no overclocked so no reboots!

My only reboots were due to a kernel issue, not the actual phone. So no, I have not had one.

Are you in a 4G area? Do you overclock?

Never had any problems with rebooting running das bamf 2.0-5 @1. 4ghz i forget the radio...
THUNDERBOLT

I'm running das bamf 2.0 and applied all the patches and the sense 3.0 camera. Never a reboot, only issue is in the camera. When I use action setting I get a force close. That's it.
DasBAMF 2.0 Thunderbolt

I've had 3 Thunderbolts.
The first was great until the screen turned Green, No random reboots as well. The second was great until it started rebooting 2 times an hour (rooted, Das BAMF), and when i returned it to Stock it would reboot about 3 times a day. My third (a crappy 'like new' replacement), reboots at least once an hour.... Completely stock.
My 4th arrives today! I hope this one works, but i'm honestly not holding my breath.

Good Luck! Do you live in a 4G area?

had my thunderbolt since day 1 of launch and haven't gotten any reboots or problems at all, i consider myself one of the lucky ones lol

I am in 3g only area and stock phone...so far. I have reboots and have done the data wipe htc recommended. Hoping this is software problem.

Mine has had one reboot. It was when I upgraded to the new radio. I'm in a mostly 3g area. I get fringe 4G but keep it turned off most of the time. I also use WiFi as much as possible.

Thanks, keep us informed. 4G is the big battery kill, I find using wifi whenever possible has transformed my battery life.

I got my replacement phone last friday. it came with the launch day firmware. I updated to MR1 on Saturday, since then I have been having 1-2 reboots every day. Going to call them and see about getting another phone, maybe a Droid Charge or LG revolution.

I've had my phone for a couple months now. Rooted the night I received and been on Bamf remix since day one and continued updating the Roms as they were released but stayed away from GB. I'be had zero.reboot. I'm located in Utah with a 3g only area without ever being in 4g.

I wanted to note that some people may not be noticing reboots depending on what time of day they happen. I've had at least 1 happen over night that I know of. The only reason I know now is that I just started using a SIM password and woke up to the phone asking me to enter the PIN.
I'm running Das Bamf 1.63 w/ leanKernel 2.5.1 in a 3g area.

Mine had it's first reboot today after being up for 90 hours so I really can't say that it is the same thing. I am running in 4g, 3g and wifi at different parts of the day. I run the 3rd radio combo on the radio thread

Phenomenal battery life on BAMF 1.5 remix

Is it just me or are you guys getting phenomenal battery life with the recent upgrade to BAMF 1.5 remix? I know it's got a new kernal and it's built off a newer RUU and antenna but I've been seeing a lot better life all day. Does anyone else agree?

Just flashed the new radio and rom today. Gonna bump charge tonight and see what we get tomorrow.
I only flashed the new radio and in the short time I've been using it, the battery life seems to be much improved.

I am going to agree, my battery life has been so amazing its unbelievable. Overclocked and still no worries. I'm digging it the kernel that comes with it, adrenaline 4.4.2 I think? Well I have been using it. Amazing kernel for oc and battery

It for sure is better. I flashed the latest radio/rom and then charged to 100% and calibrated the battery. Now I'm letting it run out of juice till it dies then I'll recharge again then I'm going to start the real tests to see how it holds up.
Come to think of it I haven't charged my phone since this morning and I'm still at 50%. Tomorrow will be the real test.

I flashed the remix 1.5 rom+ new radio yesterday and left the phone off the charger at 81% last night around 1030pm. Woke up this morning and it was down to 20% (620am).
I left the data on Auto CDMA/LTE mode (wanted to see if the new radio fixed this). I put it back on again to LTE mode only this morning to see who that goes.
For those who got pretty good batt so far, are you keeping in on 3g Only/4g only mode or the auto 1x/3g/4g?

Ditto...gonna see how it pans out tomorrow.
I've seen little to no battery improvements from bamf 1.5 / new radio... but what I have noticed is my 4g / 3g network changes are faster and less often ( i live in 3g and work in 4g ). before this radio update I had to restart my phone when I got to work to switch over to 4g... the radio update fixed that little annoying issue.
and you have to take my battery experience with a grain of salt... because I stream pandora on my phone for about 10hrs a day

My problem is that I work as a field engineer, so I spend a lot of time in plants using my phone as a tethered wifi internet connection (in fact, I'm posting from it right now). I have yet to find anything that lets my phone last more than an hour while connected to 4g and using Wireless Tether. I realize those are probably pretty extreme circumstances, and I get by since I bring a wall-charger with me to plug into whatever electrical panel I'm working at, but I can dream, can't I?

uptime: time the phone has been powered on
awake time: time the phone has been on without going into sleep mode (time it has been doing stuff)
Leankernel extreme with setcpu limiting to 1ghz. Also, screen off @ 245mhz. Runs great even when playing music. I set to 3g using lteonoff app but it doesn't make much difference if you're going to be leaving on an app such as skype that constantly uses data. I have set everything to sync manually except for email. At lest it runs all day with light to moderate use now instead of draining 5% per minute from just check my email. My backlight isn't set past 40% (can't see the screen if I'm outside otherwise.

[Q] thunderbolt tethering

Really torn between getting a thunderbolt or a charge. I'm leaning towards thunderbolt because I like to use custom roms and the support seems better for that. I saw a review that said tethering on the thunderbolt can be problematic. have other people seen that? If so does it go away if you change to a custom rom or is it a hardware issue?
I had major problems with dropping 4g with the stock tether but after switching to one of the wireless tether apps for root users I have no more issues at all on my thunderbolt.

good to know. the only thing that's holding me back right now is the battery life. I could live with a screen that's not as vibrant. I have the incredible right now, and have never made it through a day without plugging it in or swapping batteries. It's more or less broken for me now (you can see my other posts if you're curious), and I suspect all the battery swapping was a large factor in the issues I'm seeing now. I'm worried if I get the thunderbolt I'll end up with similar problems.
Tethering on the tbolt is seamless and easy. I use the stock app, or Barnacle. Both work like a charm.
Beware, using wifi tether with the stock app over 4g will drain your battery so fast that even if you have it plugged into your pc the battery still goes down. you have to plug it into the wall.
ive noticed that the barnacle app uses less power than the stock app uses.

fwiw, I went with the thunderbolt. I guess verizon is worried about ppl getting out of their contracts or something, cause they gave me the upgrade price eventhough it's early for me. I bet if I tried I could have even gotten a better deal, but I'm just too lazy and impatient.
When you guys say it's "dropping 4G" do you mean it drops down to 3G or it stays on 4G but loses connectivity?
Had the tbolt first. Reboot issuers and vzw sent me a charge to use till reboot issues fixed. Long story short. The charge was used 48 hire and sent back. Feels cheap. Os is slower. Battery life was about same for charge as with tbolt

does not get to 3g. 4g icon disappears and reappears three seconds later. but when it appears tether does not want to work. when you try to refresh website on the computer, the 4g disappears. if you take a speedtest on the phone app, it works flawlessly. at the same time as the app runs you use the computer,4g magically disappaears.

well i solved all of my tethering problems by going back to froyo. am now on bamf 1.8 remix and loving it. tether works like it should and even works with the screen off. something is off inthe gb kernal that forces tether to close when screen is off. slight remedy is to up the processor speed, until you lose the 4g signal lol.
i think i'll just wait for the official gb, need the internet and all.
This used to happen with me where my 4g would disconnect while using the Wireless tether app.
Im on BAMF Sense 3.0 RC3. and I downloaded the wireless tether app, but the only the stable version worked for me, I had bamf remix before the sense and the newest version worked for me, but when i installed it on my bamf sense version, it wouldnt work, so I had to use the regular stable version not the experimental

CM7 MR2.5 bat issues

Hello to all you great people! I am not new to this site but I havent posted much or at all. This site is increadible and has taught me a ton about what a droid can do once you know how to use it. Thanks everyone! Anyway I have a question that I would of posted in the CM7 dev thread but I dont have permission since I havent posted much. Is anyone having bat drain issues with the newest build (RC1.1 MR2) using the GB radio 2.5? I have lost over 10% bat life in 25 mins while in airplane mode, no data including wifi and the screen was only on for maybe 2 or 3 mins. It may be a problem on my end but I just wanted to see if anyone else is having an issue with this. Oh and thanks to all you devs for doing all the hard work and dealing with angry wifes or girlfriends! We all appreciate it!

I actually had this problem too with the stock kernel, and once I overclocked with the Dream kernel it actually stopped draining my battery, strange.
I did try using Imoseyon's CM7 leankernel but had the same effect. Ill try the dream kernel and report back. Thank guys!!
I'm on my first day with this build of CM7, with MR2.5 and noticed my battery has drained way faster than it did with gingeritis.
Did you try wiping battery stats?

Is there an official name for this kernel, or someplace to get it? I tried a quick Google search for "htc thunderbolt dream kernel", and it didn't bring up anything definite.
I noticed the battery drain too. CM7 7.1.0 RC1 with the MR2.5 radio. It seems to be "cell standby" that's using the highest percentage of the battery. I have it set to CDMA / EvDo auto.
What programs do you have running? Are you overclocked? I an running mr2.5 cm7.1 rc1.1 and still have 22% on 18 hours unplugged. 3 hour screen on, lots of texting, xda browsing, market updates, and an hour of plans vs zombies. On stock kernel, no overclocking. Using interactive governor.

I do have things set to run in the background, but they don't even register a high enough percentage in the battery usage to show there. I was not having battery issues with the 7.0.1 RC 6 on MR1 (the last build).
I've tried two of the utkanos kernels (not the OC one), and the dream kernel. On both of the utkanos kernels, I had no data. I tried rebooting several times, switching data on and off, and changing the network mode. No luck. The dream kernel took several minutes, but data finally came on. I haven't used it long enough to comment on any battery life differences between stock CM7 and this.

Ok so here's the news on my end. With the dream kernel things seem much better! However I was watching my ma usage and it went from 48ma to 240ma something after turning on wifi. Then after turning wifi off it never dropped. I rebooted and things went back to a cool 48ma. I'm guessing my original problem was with the stock kernel. But now that I'm on the new one the phone wont power down the wifi or something and made me burn thru my bat till I rebooted. Any ideas gents? Reboot did fix but that usually kills a good 4 to 10% of my bat everytime. I have next to nothing running in the background too.
Sent from my ThunderBolt using XDA App
Guess I should add that now after reboot I'm around 100 ma usage and steady with wifi on. Maybe a reboot once a day might do the trick till CM is finalized. Was thinking bout trying the mr2 radio stead of 2.5. Anyone know if there's a difference or advantage to either?

i have been experiencing the same thing... big time !
regardless of what rom i use, sense/de-sense or aosp, the phone gets really hot after awhile. i've had a few instances where it got so hot that it froze the phone and i had to yank the battery and let it cool down.
for the hell of it, tried going back to an older radio and the problem went away.
damn.. did have a tad bit better battery on the new radio as well as a very slight improvement in reception... but considering the consequences of the new radio, it's better just to stick to an older one for now.
Was this only happening when using a 3G/4G connection or all the time? I haven't experienced that but I only switched to the new radio a few days ago and haven't done any long term mobile data usage with it yet. I do seem to pick up 4G at my work quicker and in places in the building where I couldn't before.

I know i read if you undervolt it too much it can cause a phone to run hot if done incorrectly. Causes phone to work harder since it needs more power.

Refering to a couple of the posts above, i am in a 3G only area but i do heavy usage(web, movies) so the phone will be on for a few hours at a time.
As for "undervolting", i use DreamKernal + SetCPU and just overclock to like 1222. I also have a profile set so when the screen is off it is set to max out at 368.
Oh, and for the heck of it tried that VZW thing with pulling the battery to reset location and.it didnt help with the heat either.
On a positive note, at least if your hands are cold(or other body part), then hey!
i think the kernels have alot to do with the heat as well. i doubt the leaked 802 radio will harm anyone's phone. i will admit its a very wonky radio for me. ive just recently combined the cdma 627 radio and the lte 802 radio and all is well. i went 23hrs on a stock battery with lte on all the time. im running cm7+kangbang kernel.
