Lane assistance and realistic signposts shown on the screen help you to find your way even in the most complex situations..
Finetuning your route
Choose from fast, short, economic or 'easy-to-follow' route variants, compare the various route alternatives visually on the map, and pick the one you prefer. You can also avoid freeways, ferries, unpaved roads, and toll roads. Did you miss a turn? iGO My way™ instantly re-calculates the route.

What you see is what you get, so if it's not in the OP it's not supported. Sorry.
Gmaps is still a great choice. This is only posted as an alternative.

Can this be used Offline(no need for data connection) ?

Downloading now, right now I use CoPilot live as my offline navigation (I don't have 3G) and it's perfect, let's see if this can better it.

Had no idea ^^ about that. Strange, why the free app and with paid maps, IMO, that makes the app not free because you can't use it without maps, oh well, my bad.

because they have gain revenue. its what companies do.

[APP][22/06/2010][1.9.99.301] WAZE - free navigation

For all who are looking for a free navigation system WAZE is the way to go.
It's a community project and help is still needed to make it a perfect app.
Means driving new roads and naming streets.
A very nice feature is the that you can submit LIVE trafic information (hazard, speed cam) and if you drive slow it will show that for others too so they can avoid this street.
For WM is a new version available and it does look much better now. The one on Omarket is v1.4, so forget that one.
Here you can get v1.8
http://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=2061
Update 07/06/2010 Version 1.8.99.202
Latest beta version, which supports most 1.9 new features (missing feature - you cannot edit street names from within the application).
From some initial testings, there might still be freezing problems, but this version has better stability which is why we decided on posting it here, while still working on fixing the freezing issues.
Download 1.8.99.202
Update 22/06/2010 Version 1.9.99.301
Includes
* Filtering of reports by distance (updated)
* Correction of application freeze after prolonged usage
* Support of Facebook and Twitter traffic related inputs and respond (currently no FB connect is supported)
* Improved address search bar
* Improved zoom when driving through intersections
* Insert existing user name even if skipping it during installation
* Reduction of unnecessary route calculations
* ... and a lot of small bug corrections
Download 1.9.99.301
The installation will take up to 10min. So dont worry.

not google maps. they have there own map grid and the maps are generated by the community 1st by driving and 2nd by editing the map online.
the maps are online but when you look at an area on the device they get downloaded. so you dont need for maps always a connection

taiwan doesn't have a map grid yet as far as I can see but there are some streets already (check http://world.waze.com/livemap/). you can start using WAZE and after on the server you can change the part you drove into a street.
Thanks, I have been looking for a good navigator. Hopefully this works well. Im unlocked on AT&T. Does this not work for the states?

sure it should work without any problems in the states. it works on the whole world, but from area to area the community is different developed and therfore the mapping. but the states are the most developed as far as I know.
Thank you! I'll give it shot.
sorry but i can only say
[email protected] AWESOME!!!
anyway it s very badly developed in Hungary... even the capital Budapest!
so a lot of mapping job incoming...
and I can just say
spread the word and the more user the faster the job is done
happy waze'ing
Sounds like fun, maybe i'll give it a go here in the North of Norway
Edit: just one question, when i use this cab, will thre be any extra costs? Does it roam when its logged on?
WTF with bluetooth? ****ing pop up for Bluetooth! What i have to do?
After using it exclusively today, I give this app an A+. Only thing I dont like is people can ping you which gets annoying. When im traveling I dont want random people trying to chit chat with me.
Overall I endorse this navigation.
Just turn your bluetooth on and you can navigate away.
You are the CHAMP!!
I'm not too much of a fan.
Besides there is no real 'getting started' guide (the 'Guided Tour' is no more than an ad) there is a bad strategy for attracting new users: 24-48h until any update you do yourself shows on maps.
I'm in Switzerland:
- there seems to be right now no coverage at all
- there's no 'walk through' telling me how to add my region
- when my updates (from driving /w waze enabled) show up earliest 24h later, how would I know that/how it works?
So how would I know how to use the app? Did I miss something?
Frank
P.S. Even searches for smaller Cities like Davos or Chur did not provide any result. There needs to be much better user guidance.

Finally Garmin for Android!

I just heard that Asus had just collaborated with Garmin and produced an Asus-Garmin phone which runs on Android Eclair.
Here's the link : http://techcentral.my/gadgetsandapp...reviews/20101109104759&sec=it_gadgets_reviews
So anyone into ROM dump? However I don't think it's legal..... hmmmmm...

Update 03/03/2011
Ok so it seems that this is still ongoing and I saw several members post a request to get specific files in order to extract the app out and make it compatible with other android devices.
And here's an elaboration from ajape.
ajape said:
The actual problem is that there are two version of this program, and the one that can be downloaded from the link provided in the last page is NOT the one we need. After all, all this is about having access to our Garmin maps WITHOUT having to have a full time internet or 3G connection, otherwise why even bother with anything beyond google maps?
Anyways, I digress, there are two versions of this program: Garmap Online and Garmap Onboard. The one we all need is Garmpa Onboard for android, that's the version that reads your maps from a folder in your SD card, the one in the link posted in this thread is not... well, completely useless I guess, but it's still a far, far thing from what we're all trying to achieve here, which is to access our Garmin maps in our Android phones.
Anyways, here's the info about Garmap Onboard app that we need:
Description:
Garmap for Mobile Onboard has no reliance on network coverage, making life simpler and more convenient.
With Onboard navigation users enjoy:
- Turn-by-turn voice prompts
- 2D/3D city map views
- POI dialing
- FREE safety camera alerts
- Preloaded maps
- Optimal itinerary planning with waypoints
- Network independent allowing easy travel across borders
www.garmapmobile.co.za/onboard
What’s New
***ADVANCED LANE ASSSIST***
Garmap’s advanced lane assist pop up will help you navigate those complicated intersections by indicating which lane to use. Never miss an off-ramp again!
***ADVANCED ROUTE PLANNING***
Plan your route using Garmap’s advanced ‘Itinerary’ option and optimse your route to save time and fuel.

Its quite possible, as the navigation feature is mainly an app on the A10. So any developers out there could do it?
I have the A50 (Garminfone in USA).
In the USA it ships with Android 1.6 but in SIngapore it has 2.1 Eclair. The USA is supposed to get the Eclair update soon, but no date has been mentioned.
http://www.garminasus.com/en_SG/phones/a50/specs.html
Several of us have it rooted. But are stumped as we can not get it into recovery mode, and it seems to over right /bin on each start up...so we have to manually copy/paste su in to that to keep it rooted after each start up.
Anyone have any advice on how to dump the ROM when we can not get it into recovery?
I'd love to know how to tweak the phone to accept .update files from a different country.

I've searched around but not many people around the forum uses a garminphone.
Have you tried using universal androot? Cos I believe it works thay way.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
universal androot only does a partial job on it (1.6 android). We have to manually move 1 file after each start up, so not a big deal.
Yesterday, Garmin posted 2.1 Eclair for Garminfone.
What a huge difference! Universal Androot does not work with this 2.1 Eclair version!
Now I am unrooted again, but the upgrade to 2.1 is worth it.

Would rather Garmin than FailFail (sorry, TomTom) - I've only just found out about the HTC/TomTom deal and can't think of worse software to run on my phone really.
Garmin maps are the only ones in my country (Slovenia) and neighbouring countries that cover every village in full detail. I now use my former Windows Mobile phone just for navigation
Would really support this on Android!

Hi, I've never worked on extracting Android imgs, so my questions may be noob, so pls apologyze
Is there any difference between the udpate (.raw) and a ROM dump?
If someone has a Garmin phone, and can root it, can they extract the Garmin .apk from it?
Alternatively, what are the next steps to take to extract an .apk from the update (.raw) ?

the next step is to figure out what format the .raw file actually is.
Well, in a garmin phone, the garmin program is not really an app as it can not be found in the app list. It must be accessed from a widget in the home screen. I guess that's why its hard to extract the .apk file.

hi
played this app with 4 friends at work and it's brilliant... have some feedback for you:
1 - table (asus transformer)
4 - players (htc desire, htc sensation, galaxy nexus, htc desire hd)
vibrate or sound on device when action is required. example, on device showing user's hand, whenever they are required to action, vibrate.
display text based on orientation. e.g. two players, text can appear upside down.
ability to see table on devices showing hands.
better display of what hand won...e.g. state on table, garpunkal won with high card... steve won with a full house (aces over kings).
Awesome app though, would be great to see continued development. Definitely useful for people travelling that don't have cards/chips, but have their phones on them.

If you don't see the App in the market, it might be because your device doesn't have OpenGL ES 2.0 (about 10% of all devices accessing the Android Market).

Awesome that you like it! We have to admit that this project was just for a university task, so we just published it in the market as-is and didn't really expect that it will be really played (only geeks have so many Android devices). So it's awesome to hear that it's really used
All of your suggestions sound reasonable, but the further development of the app really depends on how much feedback we get and we will consider your ideas when publishing the next update of the app
By the way, a sound is already played on the players device when it's his turn, but vibrating is certainly better. And yeah, the winning hand is dismissed a little bit too fast, so text based information would help to understand what's going on.
Which text should we display based on orientation? We display the players names in the right orientation and also his last action, but not the chips if I remember correctly.
Cool app, was just playing with my friends. ^^
It's taking quite a bit of space tough.
thanks for responding...
This app is very useful for a pocket poker travel game... easier than having a stack of cards and chips!
Would definitely like an update on this!!
After playing it again today I have some additional feedback:
- A console would be nice, where it all the action is shown, with for example, Player won with Straight to K.
- Vibration would be good instead of the sound, when it's my turn.
- Players could be better distributed around the table
since I downloaded your app I play poker=) thnx

Top 20 Best GPS apps for Galaxy Note - all categories !!

Hello Friends,
We have been using the Android platform for quite a time now and i am sure many of us have tried many GPS related apps from the market both Free and Paid ones.
Since , there are literally countless GPS apps on the market , I would limit my list to Top 20. This is due to the fact that it is nearly impossible to use more than 20 apps of one Genre at a time in a Single Phone.
And Since , the Galaxy Note has the best GPS lock on any mobile device in the world , apart from having GLONASS and A-GPS , I think these apps fulfill the real purpose of having a GPS on your device.
The following list is limited to Top 20 as I earlier said. You can always give suggestions and reasons for your GPS app , which may be included/appended in the list as well.
And One More request , that I will add 1 GPS App per day , both for the sake of time and brevity.
So starting Now :
1. My Tracks
This is the app I have been using since my days with Galaxy Spica I5700. Simply put , its a GPS Track recorder. Wherever you are going , just start the app , lock in the starting point and press Record track. Voila !! Wherever you will be destined to go it will record the exact path either on the road yu are driving or wherever you are walking cycling etc., just press stop recording after reaching the place. You can see the entire recorded track and stats on the App itself and also on the PC Google Earth.
This app also has the ability to generate KML files which can be exported to PC.It has features including , voice guidance , elevation changes , exact time to travel , exact path , marker positoning etc.The main benefit is that we can analyse our travelled distances and time taken and adjust new routes and plan our daily travel. The best part is that once you get the GPS lock , no need to mount it on the windshield of the car , just place it anywhere so that some part of phone is visible to the sky.
The links to the app are below. It’s a freeware Open Source project from Google. Screenshots are attested below the link.

The only GPS app I use is Google Navigation (Google maps). I have had no problems, works great.
1. my tracks
2. google maps
3. gps walk
mine
first one is waze
second is sygic
third is google maps
but we have some more recommended like telmap and osmand.
also mention which one requires data connection and which doesnt....
I use a mix of offline and online GPS apps.
Google Maps for basic mapping and latitude.
Ndrive 11 with Southern Africa Maps (offline).
Sygic With Southern Africa Maps (offline).
Maveric for custom maps or tracks. (online with caching & various mapping sources)
Sygic was on special and the maps are OK but have some serious errors. Also there was a non map download of 600 MB excessive when the country map is 11 MB.
I'm most happy with Ndrive but the map update process does not make sense. On my Note I don't get maps newer than April 2011 but on my Xperia Ray I have maps from January 2012.
Im using Navitel and OsmAnd+
Google Maps has always worked find for me. I've never needed to seek out any other GPS app.
Google maps navigation is the best one. its free and very well updated!
I tried Navigon and N-Drive but google maps definitly beats both those expensive apps.
I hope tomtom will arrive soon.
Best Gps apps
1.)Google Maps Navigation
Works flawless .. Awesome
2.) Sygic Map my india
Has a great 3d view of the POI's(Point of Intrest) and the buildings..
But couldnt recognize few destination spots which the google maps does..
SO
well its great that people commander Google Maps navigation but, it needs internet connection.
i have it when i am at home.
not when i am abroad.
and also it take alot of energy and battery and that's a problem.
i have tried 2 weeks ago to compare 3 navigators and Google navigation show me a long way compare to the others...
so what is better then?!?
also dont forget that its only beta n some countries and not working untill u use ownhere version that have been removed now because of google copyrights...
I believe everyone here had missed the fact that you can pre cache maps in Google maps and then they work great offline!

I have Navigon installed, but in all honesty I use Google Maps for almost all my navigation needs.
My favorite is co-pilot, my friend send me torrent for cracked whole europe version, amaizing! I dont like g-maps because it eat my data...

Navigon app with purchase addon: Traffic Life and Package special destination. It is the best and accurate navigator, google maps is ok, but there are situations with absence of connection. I drove the car to destinations of 1000 km and Navigon was always very precise with directions and speed controls. The only defect that is expensive.
TripAdvisor is the best app for the restaurants and hotels.
I included these app in my list of the best of my blog marchintosh.net app for Android.
online maps really have no use to me as a car navigation system.. the data overhead is huge, and if you end up somewhere nowhere (cellwise) you are toast. For me, the pre-caching argument just doesnt cut it on several grounds but ymmv.
I had reviewed a bunch or car nav apps with the iPad from free to cheap to subscription and had settled on CoPilot live for the ipad and will get it now also for the Note.. offline maps, integrates nicely, and far superior map content and user interface than sygic.. nice additional feature that you can use local seach (online) quick and simple to get your starbucks diversion on a long trip.

Nike+ Running was released for Android last night in the Play Store.
DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT THE DEVELOPER OF THIS APP. IM PURELY PUTTING THIS HERE FOR INFORMATION. ANY BUG REPORTS SHOULD BE SUBMITTED DIRECTLY TO THE APP DEVELOPER.
Full description here:
The most popular running app is now available on Android, for free!
Map your runs, track your progress and get the motivation you need to reach your goals. No sensor or additional products needed, just grab your phone and go.
- From the trail to the treadmill, your phone's GPS and accelerometer accurately record your distance, pace, and time. In-run audio feedback lets you know these metrics at every mile, so you can stay focused on your run.
- Get in-ear cheers from your friends on Facebook when you broadcast that you’ve started a run. Tag the friends you ran with and share a map of your route with friends and family.
- Have a song that gets you pumped? Set up PowerSongs to give yourself a boost with the tap of a button.
- Our Run Summary makes it easy to view your route and track how you felt, the terrain you tackled, and the weather you endured.
- Rotate your phone while viewing the Run Summary to see the breakdown of your run into mile splits.
- See how your last run stacks up against your previous seven, and get fresh insights based on your latest activity every time you come back to the app.
- Swipe upwards on the Home Screen to view your next moves. From picking your PowerSongs to challenging one of your personal bests, there’s always something to make your running experience better than before.
- Visualize all your runs side-by-side and see your progress in a bar graph history view.
- Syncing your run to the Nikeplus.com website allows you to view your maps on a larger screen, set a new goal, and find Nike+ Top Routes in your area. Check it out.
- There’s even shoe tagging. Type in the name of your running shoes to track the distance they’re logging and see when it’s time to lace up a new pair. You’re never done running, but your shoes might be.
- Need extra motivation? Add a widget to your phone’s home screen to show when you ran last, display your total mileage, and for even quicker access into a run.
- Some features such as Share Run and Cheer Me On require users to be connected to a wireless network for full functionality. Please note that continued use of GPS running in the background could dramatically decrease battery life.
Market link- HERE
APK Link- HERE
When i tried to download this from the Play Store it said my device (HTC One X) was incompatible. I have installed the APK directly and it works perfectly!! Post below if you find its working for you too!!
EDIT: If you want the latest updates you need to download and install market enabler (will add apk in a sec), change country to t-mobile (us) and in Play store hit menu -> settings -> my apps, and there should be an option to update nike+.
Market Enabler- APK Link
OP updated with APK download!!
once i went into settings in the app it crashes and wont come back untill i reset data on app. probably because my DPI is changed to 241 instead of stock 320 :/ no nike runnning for me... yet
Seems to be working fine on my Arc. Will go for a run later to confirm!
Thanks for uploading.

Don't work on my galaxy nexus...
I have it, and happily using it on my samsung Galaxy Note, with ICS.
However, I just recently noticed that it has been eating up my battery, even when I am done using it. According to ICS battery consumption, it is on top of the list, and even eating up greater power than the screen.
So , how do I properly shut this app down, including its background processes after using it?
does anyone have the latest 1.0.2 apk for this with stability fixes? In the UK only O2 customers can get this app until the end of the year

Many thanks for this post but would heartily echo the sentiment asking if anyone has access to the 1.0.2 APK and would be willing to share...
Many thanks,

The photo sharing is only for iOS? It's nice how add your run data over the photo..
