I just heard that Asus had just collaborated with Garmin and produced an Asus-Garmin phone which runs on Android Eclair.

So anyone into ROM dump? However I don't think it's legal..... hmmmmm...

Update 03/03/2011
Ok so it seems that this is still ongoing and I saw several members post a request to get specific files in order to extract the app out and make it compatible with other android devices.
And here's an elaboration from ajape.
ajape said:
The actual problem is that there are two version of this program, and the one that can be downloaded from the link provided in the last page is NOT the one we need. After all, all this is about having access to our Garmin maps WITHOUT having to have a full time internet or 3G connection, otherwise why even bother with anything beyond google maps?
Anyways, I digress, there are two versions of this program: Garmap Online and Garmap Onboard. The one we all need is Garmpa Onboard for android, that's the version that reads your maps from a folder in your SD card, the one in the link posted in this thread is not... well, completely useless I guess, but it's still a far, far thing from what we're all trying to achieve here, which is to access our Garmin maps in our Android phones.
Anyways, here's the info about Garmap Onboard app that we need:
Description:
Garmap for Mobile Onboard has no reliance on network coverage, making life simpler and more convenient.
With Onboard navigation users enjoy:
- Turn-by-turn voice prompts
- 2D/3D city map views
- POI dialing
- FREE safety camera alerts
- Preloaded maps
- Optimal itinerary planning with waypoints
- Network independent allowing easy travel across borders
www.garmapmobile.co.za/onboard
What’s New
***ADVANCED LANE ASSSIST***
Garmap’s advanced lane assist pop up will help you navigate those complicated intersections by indicating which lane to use. Never miss an off-ramp again!
***ADVANCED ROUTE PLANNING***
Plan your route using Garmap’s advanced ‘Itinerary’ option and optimse your route to save time and fuel.

Its quite possible, as the navigation feature is mainly an app on the A10. So any developers out there could do it?
I have the A50 (Garminfone in USA).
In the USA it ships with Android 1.6 but in SIngapore it has 2.1 Eclair. The USA is supposed to get the Eclair update soon, but no date has been mentioned.
http://www.garminasus.com/en_SG/phones/a50/specs.html
Several of us have it rooted. But are stumped as we can not get it into recovery mode, and it seems to over right /bin on each start up...so we have to manually copy/paste su in to that to keep it rooted after each start up.
Anyone have any advice on how to dump the ROM when we can not get it into recovery?
I'd love to know how to tweak the phone to accept .update files from a different country.

I've searched around but not many people around the forum uses a garminphone.
Have you tried using universal androot? Cos I believe it works thay way.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
universal androot only does a partial job on it (1.6 android). We have to manually move 1 file after each start up, so not a big deal.
Yesterday, Garmin posted 2.1 Eclair for Garminfone.
What a huge difference! Universal Androot does not work with this 2.1 Eclair version!
Now I am unrooted again, but the upgrade to 2.1 is worth it.

It looks we're closer to having Garmin on all Android devices
Would rather Garmin than FailFail (sorry, TomTom) - I've only just found out about the HTC/TomTom deal and can't think of worse software to run on my phone really.
Garmin maps are the only ones in my country (Slovenia) and neighbouring countries that cover every village in full detail. I now use my former Windows Mobile phone just for navigation
Would really support this on Android!

Hi, I've never worked on extracting Android imgs, so my questions may be noob, so pls apologyze
Is there any difference between the udpate (.raw) and a ROM dump?
If someone has a Garmin phone, and can root it, can they extract the Garmin .apk from it?
Alternatively, what are the next steps to take to extract an .apk from the update (.raw) ?

the next step is to figure out what format the .raw file actually is.
Well, in a garmin phone, the garmin program is not really an app as it can not be found in the app list. It must be accessed from a widget in the home screen. I guess that's why its hard to extract the .apk file.

The new 2009 formula 1 season is on its way and it would be nice to be able to follow a race on our phones. So far i have only seen a java application that does this job but the resolution is far too small
(Live Yamigo - check it out here http://live.yamigo.com/F1Servlet/)
I have no idea about developing so, does any developer want to develop this for us? I'd gladly assist in the graphics work.
Functions:
Live timing
Lap chart
Comentaries Feed
Weather Screen
vga res & other
Im sure there are much more people interested in such an application.
You are right, I'm interested!
Sorry I can't develop it, though..
Please post questions and/or requests in the Questions and Answers section of the forum. This thread will probably be moved to that section. Thanks.

I'm interested too...
But before starting a dev, we need to know where to find datas... I don't know websites that send such informations...
Do you mean the live timing? If so you can get it free from http://www.formula1.com. This uses a java applet to show lap times etc, I also have this on when im watching the live qualifying/race.
yes live timing..i also tried that on my touch pro but its very small resolution and it only takes up a small portion of the screen..making it extremely hard to read..id love to see this developed for vga too...
Hi guys,
I've just tested the service, and it works well. But as already said, its so small resolution.
I've downloaded the LARGE version (http://live.yamigo.com/F1Servlet/dl/), even that is small for my HTC Touch Diamond. Its probably 320x240.
Anyway its the only way to have the F1 Live Timing. Thanks for the intel.

The large version works fine on my HTC Advantage X7500. But then I didn't install any high res applications. So perhaps that's why the application displays larger on my device. It's reasonably close to full screen.
I do keep getting internet connection security dialogs (need to click yes everytime it downloads a bit of data). Is there a wat to prevent that? Can I mark the application as trusted or something?

You would need to upgrade the JAVA version on your phone if you have a wm 6.1/6.5. If you have a version of WM prior to that then I am afraid that you will just have to keep clicking on connection dialog iirc.
I will ask a couple of lads at work to see what they can do (if they can be bothered that is) as I work as IT support for a JAVA house that specialises in connected apps and I know quite a few of the developers like F1

I've got the "intent Midlet Manager" version 11.1.7.1036 on it. I think that's the most recent version.
I've found a workaround though. I wrote the yamigo developers and they indicated that I should get only 2 dialogs. Then I found that indeed I got only 2 and it kept stable after that. Then I switched apps and the dialogs returned.
Seems like it only works when I have my internet connection closed before I open the java midlet and then let the midlet connect.
Weird, but it works.

I once decompiled the original F1 live timing application. Not sure if it's still that easy, but I could read the source for the entire java application. I used that to work out the live datastream. Never got around to writing the WM app that I planned though.
Here a screenshot from the application working on my device:

Last summer I made live-f1 version that works somehow in HTC hermes running WM6.0 (HTC original). It is based on the live-f1 program source code that works in linux xterm. It has WM gui (without any touch specific features). Features include only timing data, fastest lap, and comments. Timing screen is scrolled with arrow keys.
I was thinking about delayed timing feature next, but due to FIA favoring double diffuser Teams, I have not had motivation to make that part.
Open Source live timing library written in .NET
If anyone is interested, I've written a library - Open Source in C# - to receive the live timing data from the server used by the official live timing app. Obviously it's reverse engineered, so I haven't yet done all of the data. However the interesting stuff is done (i.e. not the weather info).
Note: It's currently targeted at the desktop .NET framework, but shouldn't take much effort to port it to the compact framework if any one is interested.
So..if anyone would like to develop some app's I've also included some existing recorded data that can be 'played' back using the library's simulator component so you won't have to wait for an actual race event to see if your app works.
It can be found here Live Timing Home Page (http://livetiming.turnitin.co.uk)
Thanks,
Liam.
p.s. If you'd like to contribute your app's and or code to the project, let me know and I'll add you in.

Same here, trying to figure out a way to have live timing on my HD2
Official app soon available? http://www.formula1.com/mobile_services/live_timing.html
Heres the official jad file. Its for the HD and i cant get it to work on my Diamond 2, so cant let you know if it works or not.
works on first run, causes error on second launch, have to re-install!!
It's now not on the f1 website again, I guess they realise there is an issue with it and are trying to fix it?
I'm still laughing at those with an iphone who have to pay £20 for the official app and we get it for free!!
I've downloaded the "HTC HD2" version, and it isn't working at all with jbed:
E: 2java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
But, with jblend works
They have been putting it on the web and removing it since yesterday... a little bit more testing wasn't been that bad
Edit: I forget to mention that, even it's working with jblend... i cannot sign-in with my email/password... i've been forced to "Try" the application
What phone, what java version?
I am unable to run it on Diamond using JBed. Anybody succeeded with this. If yes, what midlet manager is able to run this applet? Thanks.

Install Instruction
Download the .wgt file and transfer it to your phone
Install it using File Manager like when your installing a .cab file
Samsung Phone i.e. OMNIA II
Install total commander or other file manager.
Browse to the location where the .wgt file is using the file manager
Use the "Open With" option and choose Windowswmwidgetinstaller.exe
Widget should begin installing
Other i.e. cooked rom without Widget Engine
Download and install enable_widgets_wm6.5.cab (Download), which will updates your phone with registry settings for widgets.
Try installing the wgt file now.
If it does not work, try the Samsung Method.
If the file "Windowswmwidgetinstaller.exe" exists does not exist,
You do not have the Widget Engine installed in your rom. You should find a rom with the whole package or try add_widget_engine_v2.cab (Download). This will install all the required files and registry entries
Soft reset and try to install a widget
It should now work

I am currently querying and parsing the bus times from those 2 sites that you mentioned. One reason why i wrote the app is that with my HD2 i have to zoom in, key in the bus stop code, click go and zoom in again to read the information. another was that the mobileiris only shows one bus at a time and the back button brings us to the stop query page.
Additionally, i have also planned to include function like bookmark and favorite.
favorite: i can take either bus A from stop 1 and bus B from stop 2 home. So i can favorite them and see which comes faster.

Just use it for the DVR management, definitely worth it. You can use the channel guide or search by time and even future dates. Much better than the mobile website. That alone is worth the download.
If you search the actual available content to watch it is all older programming and select channels. This is not a "slingbox" replacement app by any means. All the U300 package will give you with this app is the ability to download and watch certain older programming. Sorry should have clarified my above post.

U-Verse on Droid
Hi there. I installed the U-verse mobile app on my Verizon Droid. (Thanks for that!) It seems to work fine until I attempt to download shows to my phone from the 'Show Library.' I get a message saying it can't be done because of system issues. Has anybody else had success downloading shows? Or does my not being on AT&T's actual network prevent me from doing it?
Thanks,
ej
Can't say for sure that it is from not being on AT&T's network but it looks to be that way. I can't download and watch shows on my EVO. I said all along that when they finally did release an Android App it would probably only be compatible with AT&T android phones. the bastards!
Had the same problem. Make sure you are on WiFI and then try it a few times. It will eventually work. Im running original droid as well.
Hmmn
jim, I've tried it with Wi-Fi and 3G, both ways get me this message "Cannot Subscribe. Thank you for your interest. Subscription cannot be completed at this time due to system issues. Please try again later."
This happens when I click Agree to Terms of Service, and the denial message appears instantaneously, as if it's a built in denial that shows before a connection is even attempted.
Maybe there is a setting on my phone I don't know about?
Question:
When I install the app, one of the things it asks for is permission to call phone numbers. I can understand why it asks for other permissions, like changing network connectivity (downloading shows only over wifi).... but I can't figure out what the app does that needs phone call permissions. Does anybody have any insight on this?
Btw, the app works great on my phone. Can't download shows, as I only have U200. For those who have previously posted about not being able to install the app on your phone, the user guide says it works on android 2.1 and higher, for phones on the list. (I didn't see a list, though).
Works on the vibrant after hours of trial and error.not much to download and watch though.

Not sure how though.
I thought I'd be able to watch shows I had recorder to the DVR, but that was hoping for too much I guess.

Bear in mind that this version is basically useless to anyone outside New Zealand and Australia.
You can "legitimately" download it from the market by using "Market Enabler" and setting your provider to "Telstra (au)".
Good application otherwise, also instead of saying "Road" when it sees the usual abbreviation "Rd", it says "R D" which is odd.
hi
The map can use in my country Malaysia? izzit is offline navigation? thanks
Yes It's Offline Navigation, As far as Malaysia, I have no idea.
Legitimately, If you question whether it's warez, be a man and say it.

That's why I had the word in quotes, no need to get snarky. I've no issue with you providing the .apk, but technically it's only _supposed_ to be available for free to Galaxy Tab users in Australia & New Zealand, hardly an issue because as far as I can see it doesn't support download of additional maps for other areas any way - you need the separate full-priced app for that.
Navigon Fresh
This works, and when you do the steps outlined in post 1, you can download maps for the United States.
Fairly sure its some kinda warez, just a backdoor in getting free maps, oh well.
Navigon is decent, google maps still "looks" better, but navigon seems a little more accurate, and its offline so thats good, the default voice it comes with is also much better than that pica crap.
Fairly Sure Your An Ass, And Backdoor way to get maps (Legal Way To Get Maps). Another thing, this site was built on backdoor loopholes. Do your research.

Check First Post
FYI, you might want to update your original post to note whether the Tab should connected in Kies mode, mass storage mode, or Media player mode (should be in mass storage mode). Also note that USB Debugging should be turned off.
FYI
If people are having problems following the directions in the post, chances are they should not be installing it in the first place. I mention nothing about klies in the post (why would it be open, who actually uses that crap.
Note: Usb debugging can be turned ON
Could you add a mirror on mediafire or multiupload since the hotfile link is going at about 3kb per second for me

Thanks for this great post - but I gotta say that the Navigon GPS app is really poor, with very few features and terrible useability. CoPilot is much, much better (and also available for free if your savvy
thanks will give it try here in vietnam

how can get US maps? I followed the instructions and when i created the account, the available maps were of Germany, and Australia. How can i get the US maps?
Disclaimer: I take no credit for this. I am just posting it here to bring it to the attention of more Galaxy Tab users as I found it in another forum purely by chance and I know some Galaxy Tab users are looking for it. I believe these apps are available and distributed freely by Samsung (correct me if I am mistaken) so there should be no harm in me posting them here
You can now finally have the fully functioning Samsung Mail, Social Hub and Samsung IM apps running on your Galaxy Tab. These apps provide seamless integration for virtually any kind of email account (including my company's very tightly guarded Exchange server!). The three apps bring together all your email (all with super-quick push mail) and IM into a unified inbox that is very easy to navigate through and provides very tight integration with the Tab's Contacts and Calendar apps even giving full activity history with your contacts in similar fashion to HTC Sense (though perhaps not as sexy)
You can get more info from the official website here:

Install the apps as ordered by filename then reboot for good measure
----
If you are having issues getting it to work you can try the following:
1. Install Seven.apk (attached below)
2. Put UnifiedInbox.apk (attached below) in /system/app/ using the following code:
Code:
adb push UnifiedInbox.apk /system/app/
3. Reboot
This should get it working and you can then update to the latest version using the first two files

Still no luck. Now it just sits spinning with "In progress...." but eventually times out with "Connection Failed" or "Your action took too long to complete and timed out. Please try again."
I was able to run the previous version of Samsung Mail without any trouble. Successfully connected to Exchange Servers without issue. Seems this new version is not going to work for me. Thanks.
problems installing
The unified inbox app wont install for some strange reason
Also there are tiow versions of the seven app
the one in this forum seven.apk and one in an other forum com.seven.apk (which is much larger)
I think the seven.apk needs to be installed over the com.seven.apk

What is the version of the app in your post? I'd like to know so I can add it to this post and remove the incorrect one. By the way, I am able to install both sets of the above files without any problem on a clean Tab

Maybe can try Mercury Messenger or Trillian for Android. Both these apps work prety well; only problem is they are battery drainer. Samsung IM on the other hand pushes so theoritically less battery usage but it doesn't update friends list as often. Problem I faced with this IM is when I logged on to MSN and a friend logged on few minute later, the list is not updated; hence, IM show my friend as not logged on (offline). Mercury or trillian on the other hand updated it almost immediately. Anyway, it could be just me.

To be honest I haven't had that lag issue...
One of my favourite features about Samsung IM is that it is real-time push as you said...
The only [strange] thing I've found is that my Favourites group only includes 1 of the 6 people that are actually in the group (I haven't changed this recently so it's not a problem of the update taking time to reflect)

I found the easiest way to push and pull files (via ADB) is to use Android Commander.
