I've found the datasheet for the FSA9280 online today. So, now I can post about it.
http://www.mediafire.com/?d4e21efhuktctcb
This datasheet is valid for all GalaxyS and GalaxySII devices.
Ok... So, first off.. A JIG is the line on the FSA chip which leads to the processor. The JIG line is usually high. Any resistor which makes that line go LOW is a JIG resistor.
These are the JIG values. They are used on the usb port between pins 4(X or ID) and pin 5(ground).

Ok, so obviously the most interesting is the the factory mode boot on UART. Good stuff.
Didn't get much, but would be very happy if this helps in the development of devices/JIGs that would help in unbricking the dead devices. And this what is intended of all this, as I get it.
There's 32 bits. This is all resistor values.. All 5 bits are taken. 32 choices.
I graphed it out.

I just realized I missed both short and opened values... They set bits. Everything is taken. There cannot be any more. I updated the picture as well
thats really helpfull. thank you verry much!
I see there is an audio remote thing. Would it be possible to make an app in visual basic and use my sound card and a aux cable in the phone 3.5mm jack and send that into my phone?
Edit: there is also alot of commands on there with diffrent Ohms what do those commands do?
Great finding Adam!
I would like to prepare a rescue set for the SGS-2, from a JIG and a microSD. If I read your table correctly, the 301kOhm USB JIG forces the device to boot in "Factory mode 1".
Is there a description somewhere, what these modes mean? (my goal is to convince the device to look for the bootloader on the microSD)
Great resource!
Yes,
301k across pins 4 and 5 (If I recall correctly, 4 typically has no wire on in in a usb cable. It is not the shield wire.) if you carve enough insulation off a mini USB plug.
Take the battery out, wait a bit, put it in, and plug in the plug.
You have just accomplished the 3 button boot!
I was looking at a thread earlier today on the I9000 I believe:
"Fun with Resistors"

(Waiting for my Captivate to arrive)
I know, this is the background for the "resurrection" Jig-s sold on ebay.
Does anyone knows, what "factory mode 1" means for booting? Is it possible, to prepare a microSD to load the bootloader from there, in case the bootloader(s) on the phone are corrupt?

can you solve my problem with my ME600? it seems to be hard brick with no respond after press the power button.but i can feel vibrake when touch that three light sensor buttons.
great find !
seems to me, the datasheet does not talk much about the fact, that the jig also powers up the whole device. The Galaxy schematics are more lucid in that respect.

Hello,
I know there are a lot of threads on this topic but I tried to use what I learned on this forum to get out of my own jam with local parts.
Disclaimer - I am not responsible for you doing further damage to your phone.
History -
Tried to restore captivate to stock, got phone in download mode - started Odin... looked like things were not starting correctly... pulled usb and battery out... and BOOM.
I got the dreaded phone=computer type display and could not get out of no matter what buttons/battery hold down combo I tried. Note this phone did not support the 3 button trick- it was a 10.07 version.
So -
Go to your local Radio Shack and get part numbers 271-1347 (100k ohm) and 271-1321 (1K ohm) resistors.
Also you need a solder iron and some solder...buy that if you dont have any.
(a meter is nice to have too... but not entirely necessary)
Take your USB cable apart. I had 2 styles of ebay cables... I used the one with bigger shield/jacket. Just look at it, it pops apart at the seams.
Then you see the where the cable is soldered to the micro usb jack.
Before this step... I cut the cable in half and was planning to use the wires for connection points .. not the jack itself but that did not work.
In this cable there are 4 wires...but on the jack there is 5 pins.... and of COURSE pin #4 is the one I need but it has no wire attached to it. ( I found this all out after using my meter on this assembly for a few head scratching minutes...also...if you twist a stripped bread tie to your meter lead it helps in ohming out the pins...)
So - back to the solution
Pin #5 has/had the black wire on it and #4 has NO wire attached on the micro jack.
To clarify - if you are looking at the jack with the pins showing - pins and connections to #4 and #5 are on the right end of the jack - one on the top and one on the bottom of the jack...hope that is clear... if not the pics should make more sense.
Now that you know where the #4 and #5 pins are on the jack, go get the Radio Shack resistors and turn on your solder iron.
Take 3 - 100K resistors and 1 - 1k resistor... Twist the resistors together in series...and solder the joints... then trim the ends up....see the picks.
Take the now cobbled together 301K ohm resistor and solder one end to pin #5 and the other to pin #4. (note you will have to unsolder the black wire from #5 BEFORE you can solder the resistor to it...assuming your jack/cable is like mine..)
Now -
With no sim, memory card, or battery plug installed, plug in this cobbled up mess into your phone.....then put in the battery....
If you did it right it... the phone will go into download mode in seconds.
Pull out the mess and put in your good cable (or put yours back together) and use ODIN as usual.
This saved my butt.
Hope this post might work for someone else some day.
Thanks for all who posted here showing me what is needed to make this work.

Thanks for the great write-up. What is the reasoning behind what makes this device work? What is it about the device that makes the phone go into download mode? Just curious.

the phone was designed that way...
Wow, looks like an elaborate setup..glad it worked for you! I think I'll pick up a premade jig though hehe..I have no experience with that sort of tinkering.

Because the phone was designed that way... Certain resistances on usb port will trigger the phone to do different things. 301 is download mode there is one for car dock and others i would imagine

I've been enjoying mobiletechvideos video reviews of the roms and instructions on how to do stuff, so I ordered a $10 jig as a combination donation/insurance policy. If you enjoy the video reports, throw Josh a bone and grab a USB 301 ohm jig.
I suspect it's easier to store than the resistor model.
Although I'm sure if I was in the OP's shoes, I wouldn't have waited for delivery either. Interesting about the only pin that doesn't have a connection is the one that you need to put the resistor across. I suspect that was completely by design.
I was able to use three 100k-ohm (300ohm) 1/2 watt resistors (radio shack #271-1131). And because I didn't have a extra cord to hack up I just taped up the resistors and was able to touch the two points and get it to work
This forum is a great resource for good information.

That is exactly why I went down this road -
I had to get this fixed quickly and not wait for something to come in the mail... or maybe come in the mail.
I also saw Josh's video and promptly ordered a jig from Josh on 2/24 I also sent a follow up email to Josh a few days later.
So far I have heard nothing from him and have not seen the jig in the mail.
EDIT - Received the jig from Josh today 3/2.
Sometimes you have to take matters in your own hands, so speak and I got my phone up and working in 24 hours... if I had the time to run to Radio Shack that night it bricked, could have been resolved in a couple hours.
thanks/good luck to all
Kevin

The phone doesnt charge properly and the computer doesnt recognise the cable/phone.
I want a recomendation because i once used a nokia cable but that didnt work as it took forever to charge my phone.
Out of these ones which one will work properly: http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=micro+usb

The Nokia cable shouldn't be slower as its basically the same
I haven't had any problems with the cables I've bought from monoprice.com for about a buck a piece... Every one of them charges just fine and works will on the computer as well.
I haven't found a cable which doesn't work. Any cable I throw at it works just fine .

I really like CMPLE cables. You can get them from Amazon and they're not too expensive either. http://www.amazon.com/Cmple-Micro-P...GXDK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1355161774&sr=8-1

It works great for me as a Mass USB reader and wireless mouse or keyboard ... BUT ... the way it plugs into the big slot on the bottom of the tablet is not very safe. With the USB stick plugged into it, it sticks out like 4 inches.
I am afraid it is going to break off soon ! I am looking for a cable to do the same thing, but would plug into the mini usb port on the side of the tablet, not the big connector at the bottom. Is there such a cable for this device ?
I have a mini to regular USB for my Kindle Fire but the mini port is different then the one on the Asus.
I know this is a question, but I think it is more of an accessory related item ... so I hope it's in the correct forum :fingers-crossed:
Thanks for any replies !
Ps. I do not have the docking station.
.
Ah,
Bought one of them things too.
Hardly ever used it...I searched for a dongle cable for a couple of days then gave up.
I'll probably blow more money on the $90.00 connect dock if I can find one.
Seems like if we want have a connection options your kind of cornered by Asus.
Maybe the keyboard dock is the way to go

The subject has been brought up previously. With the capability of screen rotation, all you have to do is rotate the tablet 180 degrees so it sits on top.

Good thinking that is one solution.
I'm afraid it put's too much bind on the tablets plug.
Stress and fear of damage are the main reasons I rarely use this.
What mini USB slot? That's a micro HDMI slot, and it's output-only...
"Pad:
1 x 2-in-1 Audio Jack (Headphone / Mic-in)
1 x micro HDMI
1 x Micro SD Card Reader"
The only USB connector in this tablet is in the dock.
Has anyone tried to use the charger cable and a USB gender changer?
Why is this? I installed all the drivers too. (My end goal is to root this, and if the USB port is broken, is there a way to root via an APK?)
Does your phone prompt to connect mass storage?

ROM? If your USB port was "broken" you wouldn't be able to charge. No way to root without USB. Possible data pin corruption. Seek further direction from the google.

What cables are you buying? They all charge and transmit if they're micro usb. It could be a bad cable from the data pinout side or it could be a bad connection on the data pinouts from the phone side. Here's the photos

Either way you will never be able to buy a micro USB cord that doesn't have five strands.
It isn't the cable, I tried using the same cable to connect up to my Optimus T, and the device showed up in windows and on the phone as an option to connect as mass storage.
Well. Maybe the same thing happened to yours as mine. The usb connector broke off from the motherboard. But there's 7 contacts on the other side; +5V and GND have two each so it's possible to have broken just the tx or rx lines thereby leaving it incapable of talking but still able to charge.
I have exorcised the demons! This house is clear.
But seriously try wiggling it or bending it. If it works and/or finishes breaking it off you'll know for sure.
Dang, I really don't want to open my phone and check if it's broken. Hm. Is there another way to root the phone via an APK, or flashing an update.zip or something like that?
Not really. Better if you fix it. Sorry dude.

Even if there is (and I don't think so) that wouldn't be a good idea. If anything at all goes wrong or you aren't happy with what you would have done, there would be no way to go back to stock without the data port working (since the back to stock methods we have use Heimdall or Odin and require a computer). I just don't think it would be safe.

When I took mine apart it looked fine it's only when I actually looked under a microscope that I could see the cracks. Ok the microscope may have been overkill but definitely find a magnifying glass or some reading glasses.

Hey all,
Did anyone else receive their free Level wireless speaker yet? Mine came today
And you know what? It's alright! I'll definitely use it whilst firing up the BBQ or doing the washing up.
But, how the hell do you charge another device from it? Using the supplied micro to micro USB cable and the USB micro to USB type C adaptor does nothing. Even using the micro to micro into another device still doesn't work.
Maybe I'm missing something obvious but there's nothing in the manual about it.
Cheers
