I was looking to root my tab, but have seen here on the forums that Z4root has been removed from the Market. I located it and downloaded it to my Tab, but I need to know if I can use it on my tab. I have US Sprint Version on 2.2. I read that this new firmware prevents you from using Z4root. Is that true? This seemed like the simplest method. If Z4root cannot be used, is there another method that is simple like this one, that will work for 2.2?
I have a TMO Tab and Z4root worked just fine in Permanent mode.
So the method works?

So the method in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953 works? How will I know if it's permanent or temporary?

I have rooted mine from TM, rooted thinking I could unlock it and use it on other carrier but it doesn't work. May I know what is really the purpose in rooting GT? can anybody from here tell me how to unlock it? Sorry for the stupid question.
Used it yesterday, had to do it in airplane mode for some reason but it worked. Euro tab JJ7

Rooting a device gives you complete access to the system files and normally unwriteable areas so that you can make modifications that you wouldn't otherwise be able to do. This has very little to do with carrier unlocking, which is what you're looking to obtain.
To carrier unlock, check out this thread.
After I did an update, z4root no longer worked for me. I used Super one click to root my Tab. Is the latest z4root updated? Can someone post a link?
There are two ways to root your galaxy 3 on 2.2/2.1
Z4ROOT(2.1)
1.Download the attached z4root.apk and install it.
2.Enable USB Debugging
3.Go into z4root and click on Permanent Root.
Super One Click Root(2.2)
Make sure your phone drivers are installed on the computer (Samsung Kies). Then follow the steps:
1. Enable USB Debugging.
2.In Superoneclick 1.7, check regeagainstthecage then click on the 'Root' button. After a few seconds, it'll say 'Waiting for device'.
3. Connect the phone to the computer using the USB Cable.
4. Superoneclick will detect the phone.
5. Now the phone will be rooted.(don't touch while it is going on.)
6. After rooting, download and install busybox on your phone.(get it from market)
If you run into any problems then, follow the instruction s given below..(by hodostamas)
If the program stucks here:
Running rageagainstthecage...
or
getting mount path...
Do this:
1. If touchwiz is the default launcher, set it.
2. Reboot your phone
3.Try to root again following the above instructions
(It should be pass Running rageagainstthecage...)
Restart phone, and try again.
It should work now.

Already rooted using superoneclick long ago.
Just wanted to know-
if manual rageagainstthecage method using terminal emulator works with g3?
And update.zip method works for froyo? (they say it's for eclairs, I personally never tested on froyo or eclairs, but it seems to be the easiest method if it works, after z4root which doesn't work)

I find that flashing a custom rom is a lot easier since it is pre-rooted and it's got a lot of performance tweaks etc but i'm using stock rom atm and i rooted it using superoneclick. If you have android 2.1 then use z4root (an app on your phone) which i have used for my first time rooting on this phone when i had android 2.1 and if you have android 2.2 then use superoneclick root (a program on your computer). Hope this helps.

Flash via cwm recovery and get root access if u have not yet
u dont need a laptop (super one click root) u only need a custom recovery,
btw every custom rom comes prerooted, it is only usefull for those who have stock rom (Odexed or deodexed) with a custom recovery(g3mod kernel)

Any fix for this?
Hi,
Im trying to root my G2X using superoneclick but everytime it reaches step#6 the program says not responding and it just locks up. Has anyone had this issue and knows how to resolve it? Im running the G2X with the gingerbread update and the latest superoneclick which I beleive is 2.1. I unmounted the SD card and I have the USB debugging checked.
Anyone?
Thanks
Superoneclick does not work on gb update, nvflash custom recovery, then just flash any rom you want.
Look in dev section on how to nvflash custom recovery.

Dude u people need to do a little research wtf man u probably been at this for days all u have to do is flash recovery with nvflash use tga gunman's guide its a one click tool like the tool we use for root its one button done, then u just flash xboarders rom or cm or even restore a backup if u have one anything with root will give u root privileges, I myself updated with LG updater tool (I just wanted baseband) I then flashed recovery, then restored my cm nightly backup, still had new baseband and was rooted again

As ancient as this thread may be, I thought I would comment in case it comes up in a Google search (as it did for me).
As it was going through step #6, the common freeze point, I simply disconnected and toggled USB debugging to work it through each phase. It went to step #7, repeated, then left it to install busybox, superuser, and so forth.

As far as I know the exploits are blocked for security reasons so they never get root access. Without temporary root super one click cannot install the programs needed to make root permanent. If this is a work around that would be a new development.

doesnt matter what device people use. ultimately, stock GB freezes at step 6. can anyone can validate the steps above, "to unplug the cable and toggle usb debugging" works or not?
if the only way is to flash the device, then there is no Rooting tool available yet for GB stock devices.

If the device has an alternate recovery (doesn't matter which one) you can use by G2X root zip to root it. It will work on any GB device that has an alternate recovery.

You can't superoneclick root 2.3.3 only 2.2. You have to flash CWM recovery then install a root zip or pre rooted ROM. All can be found in the Dev forum.

Hello,
today I wanted to root my g3, because i flashed a stock firmware. Now with super one click it doesn't work anymore but many times before it always worked without any problems. Super one click says:"Waiting for device.." and after that nothing happens. So is there any other possibility to gain root acess??? My firmware is JPU and i flashed G3 Mod kernel 2.3.
Thanks in advance
Isn't g3mod prerooted already?
No, Superuser isn't installed. Set Cpu and Titanium Backup can't obtain root acess
There are also many other ways, I've read about it. But I ended at SuperOneClick also. Check this method out (rooting is on 3rd page, but try to take a look at previous, too). I see (from my FF internet history) that I've read it once...
And, please, tell if it worked

You probably did this since you already used Super one click but I will still ask...
Have you enabled USB debugging mode?
you can use unlock root if superoneclick don't work.for me it's the best for root
I'll write a little guide and you'll see if you forgot any steps...
1.) Activate USB debugging (settings > applications > development > USB debugging
2.) Unmount SD card (settings > sd and phone storage > unmount sd)
3.) Shut down phone
4.) Open superoneclick and connect phone to computer via usb
5.) Click ROOT
6.) When it says waiting for device turn on phone and wait
7.) Superoneclick should show msg "Your phone is rooted"
8.) As soon as it starts up, phone will be rooted and ready

I would assume none of these steps worked because the same happened to me once and I couldn't do anything
How to fix: make sure debugging is enabled on phone and put it away for now. Uninstall Kies and Samsung drivers and then re-install them. Now simply reinstall Kies and connect phone. Voila, you can now use super one click to root. (Make sure you use 'rage against the cage for old version and auto for new )
I think g3mod is indeed pre-rooted and it isn't recognized bij superoneclick (I think). You just have to install superuser from the market. This works for me. It only takes some time the first time superuser access was asked.
The G3 Mod Kernel is really not rooted
-> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1252698
The G3 Mod ROM however is
-> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1252719
Easy to mix in mind.
T1ll is using stock ROM with G3 Kernel.
-> no root by default

I had to take battery out, and than I started my phone.
It worked, the rooting was succesufull, but I don't now why my phone started to flash???

i just downloaded kingoroot and plugged my phone in (the pc version) my phone is ZTE Zmax 2 Z955L from straight talk i think i just got it rooted BECAUSE
Kingo root says "root succeeded", and on my phone, a thing popped up asking to give root access to "super user"
however, the root check apps return it as not rooted. i dont know what this means and i am up for sharing screen shots.
Also most, if not all apps tat require root, will not work (at least for my case) because eventhough it asks for root permission, it will say that its been denied.
Please give me your thoughts about this

okay so i trie getting SuperSU from chainfire, asked for the binarys, so i hit install. but it wouldnt do anything but sit there at the installing window so i rebooted my phone and root was gone. in the kingo super user app, all the root access items that i allowed were still listed but it said there was no binary.
i tried rooting again with kingoroot and it said it failed.. not sure what to make of this

Wow, can you double check to make sure you actually rooted the phone, Hemanolio? If the Zmax 2 is truly rooted (and not just temporary) then a lot of people out there are going to be really happy!:laugh:
I just bought one myself from best buy. just waiting for it to get delivered in the next few days.
The Kingo App (kingoapp.com) worked as a temporary root. Kingroot didn't work for me but I didn't have the drivers installed when I attempted to use it first. This worked for me on two Zmax2 phones and allowed me to remove all bloatware. Both my devices are firmware B12 (ATT GO Phone requires ATT sim to update). Works like a charm but seems to be temporary.
AFAIK ZTE sells an unlocked version of this phone that isn't carrier branded so eventually it might be possible to get more reliable updates that way or perhaps a clean stock rom with just ZTE bloat. I don't have much hope on all that though.
What are you using to remove bloatware? KingoRoot successfully rooted my phone and the Root Checker is reported that it's all good, but every app that I use to remove the apps is failing. I can't manually do it either, I get errors.

You can use the Kingroot app itself to remove things you don't want namely the ATT software all of it plus all the Google apps minus the play store.
Not really
Kingo does not really work. All I succeeded in doing was changing my search engine in firefox. I'm sure it's great for all the other phones, but this one does not work.
EDIT: Should mention mine is Z958
Using Kingo root and all it tells me is unknown network error.

So, apparently it was temp rooted by kingo, but was able to install king root (which failed to root), but every so often king root pops up with a root error warning...I press the back button and it takes me to the full king root app with all the options, including debloating, and now Wifi Access Point app works. Tethering was my main desire, so I'm satisfied. Again, I temp rooted with kingo and then installed kingroot

For folks who have the Z958, the story isn't as easy. But the info should help the Z955A users.

I'd bet the Z955L is locked in the same manner as the Z958.
I may attempt to root my Z958 but not until I get my new phone (the Z958 is a backup since my Nexus was destroyed).
