i just downloaded kingoroot and plugged my phone in (the pc version) my phone is ZTE Zmax 2 Z955L from straight talk i think i just got it rooted BECAUSE
Kingo root says "root succeeded", and on my phone, a thing popped up asking to give root access to "super user"
however, the root check apps return it as not rooted. i dont know what this means and i am up for sharing screen shots.
Also most, if not all apps tat require root, will not work (at least for my case) because eventhough it asks for root permission, it will say that its been denied.
Please give me your thoughts about this

okay so i trie getting SuperSU from chainfire, asked for the binarys, so i hit install. but it wouldnt do anything but sit there at the installing window so i rebooted my phone and root was gone. in the kingo super user app, all the root access items that i allowed were still listed but it said there was no binary.
i tried rooting again with kingoroot and it said it failed.. not sure what to make of this
but do please give me your input
Kingo PC is working now. But your need to uninstall kingo superuser app in order to get root. or you need to go into kingo superuser app to Deny and Allow a few time for it to work. it's only a temp root. we need TWRP now!

You could try factory resetting the device... I haven't tried that but just a thought.
I'm hoping this might be the first step to getting root on Zmax 2!!! (I also hope I helped a bit)
King root via PC worked fine for me. I have debloated so far with success. I'm check for a super user dependant test, like hot-spot for super users and we'll get back at ya!

Wow, can you double check to make sure you actually rooted the phone, Hemanolio? If the Zmax 2 is truly rooted (and not just temporary) then a lot of people out there are going to be really happy! :laugh::laugh:
I just bought one myself from best buy. just waiting for it to get delivered in the next few days.
The Kingo App (kingoapp.com) worked as a temporary root. Kingroot didn't work for me but I didn't have the drivers installed when I attempted to use it first. This worked for me on two Zmax2 phones and allowed me to remove all bloatware. Both my devices are firmware B12 (ATT GO Phone requires ATT sim to update). Works like a charm but seems to be temporary.
AFAIK ZTE sells an unlocked version of this phone that isn't carrier branded so eventually it might be possible to get more reliable updates that way or perhaps a clean stock rom with just ZTE bloat. I don't have much hope on all that though.
What are you using to remove bloatware? KingoRoot successfully rooted my phone and the Root Checker is reported that it's all good, but every app that I use to remove the apps is failing. I can't manually do it either, I get errors.

You can use the Kingroot app itself to remove things you don't want namely the ATT software all of it plus all the Google apps minus the play store.
Not really
Kingo does not really work. All I succeeded in doing was changing my search engine in firefox. I'm sure it's great for all the other phones, but this one does not work.
EDIT: Should mention mine is Z958
Using Kingo root and all it tells me is unknown network error.

So, apparently it was temp rooted by kingo, but was able to install king root (which failed to root), but every so often king root pops up with a root error warning...I press the back button and it takes me to the full king root app with all the options, including debloating, and now Wifi Access Point app works. Tethering was my main desire, so I'm satisfied. Again, I temp rooted with kingo and then installed kingroot
zmax 2 does have perma root

Yep. Makes sense because the Z955A is the unlocked version.
For folks who have the Z958, the story isn't as easy. But the info should help the Z955A users.

I'd bet the Z955L is locked in the same manner as the Z958.
I may attempt to root my Z958 but not until I get my new phone (the Z958 is a backup since my Nexus was destroyed).

I have a ZTE ZTEX2 model Z955A, by mistake, I installed a customized recovery of another model and now I can not access the recovery mode, the black screen remains and I have to restart so that the cell phone can restart, can you help me to restore the original recovery?

I have the asus TF700T, It isn't unlocked. I rooted when I was in ics, then used root keeper when I went to 4.1.1. I updated to the new 4.2.1. before doing the ota update to 4.2.1, I temp unrooted using voodoo ota root keeper.
I lost blue tooth, which thanks to the members here I fixed the permissions, and now have blue tooth again. I think i only have partial root ? I have the superuser app in app drawer ( proper terminology?) Titanuim back up is working and my previous apps are still frozen. titanium says I have root. I also am able to use previous apps that require root, that were installed before updating to 4.2.1 Root explorer, and quick boot.
In Voodoo rootkeeper all the boxes are ticked, Superuser app installed, device rooted, root permissions granted, /system supports root protection, protected su copy available. However when I use root checker, or got root, it says I don't have root? A app I tried "have root, says found su binary, this binary program is used to gain root access, although it is not always usable by 3rd party applications, your device does not appear to have root. I noticed That I didn't see busy box, although titanium backup says it there? I believe that titanuim back up has it on version of busy box? I tried installing busy box with Jrummy busybox installer, it says I have root, however didn't install busy Box. I also tried to install busy box from the market, it said i was not properly rooted? Is this a permissions situation?
If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it. I need fairly layman terms. I can understand what I read but am not advanced as some others.

I did, i noticed that it doesn't show me the recent app access, i have accessed root explorer today as well as titanium back up and quick boot, they all show earlier dates, but not the recent activity. See the screen shot. again I really appreciate the effort Thank You!!

Okay I got a brain fart and tried this: I unrooted with Voodoo root keeper, I then retried the motochopper exploit again, and Voila it rooted. all the apps are asking for superuser permission again, I hit the thanks button, Thank you!! every once in awhile the even a rookie gets it right! like they say "even the blind squirrel gets a nut or two"

Hey glad it's working. I'm about to write up a manual su push. Have fun.
I have very close to the same problem. Bluetooth was dead, and I managed to fix that with ADB shell and twiddling the permissions. Then I noticed that nothing that uses root worked. I have had my TF700 rooted since day one, though I never unlocked the bootloader.
After the update, when I tried to su to root in Better Terminal Emulator Pro, I got a huge list of java functions showing a permission error occurring. I tried cold booting twice in a row, then I did a factory reset, then I tried the motochopper method... Nothing has worked. I even used Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper to "Temp Unroot" and ran the motochopper batch file again.
One thing I have noticed is that the su binary (/system/bin/su) is owned by "root root", while everything else is owned by "root shell". Another thing is that after the OTA update, my tablet had two users, and I deleted the one that "wasn't me". Was that user important to keep? I'm wondering if that user had permission to become root, while my old user lost that permission somehow...

Can someone help me forward the root to 4.2.1 or explain what I'm dealing with? I looked all over for a similar thread but couldn't find anything. The method I described is what i used for the last 4-5 updates and it kept the root just fine.

I tried it and now I have both superuser and supersu. I still do not get prompts to allow/deny superuser acess and the apps that require root still do not work (like Volume+, Root Explorer, Browser2Ram...). Whem applying motochopper it seemed to apply successfully too.
This doesnt seem to be a common problem. Did I go about restoring the root wrong?

The most effective way to use motochopper is to uninstall all root before you use it.

I cant access the system file since root explorer tells me I'm not currently rooted. I know that I need to remove su from system/xbin or similar. Is there another way to access/delete that file? I'm not willing to run a factory reset so thats not an option.

The smartest thing to do once you rooted is MAKE A TITANIUM BACKUP of all your apps and settings. Don't corner yourself! since you're not unlocked, there is very limited action which you can do when things go wrong.... like right now. Also why people rooted? so they can installed rooted apps AND BACKUP their setup. So I don't know how much root you still have with your device (sometime some apps may cached and you still able to use root with them), you may try to un install root using superuser app option or you can download a backup app from the market, make a backup of all your apps, then you may need to factory reset or even re flash the full Asus firmware. If you reflash, it's very simple to gain root back.

Thanks for all your help buhohitr! I performed a wipe, updated to 4.2.1 then used motochopper and it was flawless. I followed with a titanium back up of everything once I was done.
I'm brand new to android so excuse my lack of knowledge but I recently attempted to install Weaksauce2 and Supersu. I tried checking if it was installed properly with Root Checker but it says it was not. I don't understand because when I open Weaksauce2 and click "I Agree", I get a notification that says "Root Activated".
I'm sorry if this is a very simple issue but I don't want to destroy my new phone and couldn't find anything about this on the forums. Thank you in advance.

Yes. You're not going to hurt anything by reinstalling. It took me a couple tries. Just make sure that you don't attempt to update the su bin when you install supersu. The update will fail, but the installed version will work.

You should check if sunshine will work on your device by running it. If you are able to use it.. your root will be permanent.

I tried it a couple of more times and it worked, so I thank you for the information. I wasn't sure if there was some steps I needed to take before uninstalling it.
As for Sunshine, I'd like to ease into rooting and feel around a bit before I pull the trigger on purchasing it. I'm sure I'll find some ROMs I'd like to install, so I'll probably grab it soon.
You can't install ROMs without it right? I don't think you can get a recovery tool without being in S-off, although I'm not sure.
Also, as a follow up question, if I install a third party app, will anything bad happen if the device shuts off? I know Weaksauce is temporary so I'm not sure what would happen if the device shuts off while an app that requires root is installed.

Hmm, it seems the issue actually hasn't been solved. When I used Root Check, it said it was successfully rooted, but Root Checker said it was not. When I tried to run Titanium Backup, an error message appeared saying it could not acquire root privileges. Busybox also says it could not get permission from SuperSU, even though SuperSU asked me to grant permission for it and I said yes.
I'm really not sure what's going on.

You cannot install busybox because unless you are s-off your system partition is write protected.

Okay. I can still use Titanium Backup though right? Regardless, I can't achieve root access so I can't use it anyway. I was looking for a guide on how to use WeakSauce but it really does seem as simple as installing it, running it, and then installing SuperSU. Again, this is my first day on Android so if there's something obvious that I could be missing, feel free to let me know. Sorry for all the trouble.

I'm VZW M8 4.4.4, Sunshine fails but I am TempRooted with WS2. Pounding away since getting the phone I had ChainfireSU installed but it could not update binaries. I also installed BusyBox. I uninstalled both thinking they were screwing up SS. It appears I still have the SS SU Helper APK installed. RootChecker shows me rooted with SU in /system/xbin/su and BusyBox installed in /system/xbin/busybox. Either WS2 or SS 2.8.4 re-roots me at each boot. I think WS is included in SS and will give TempRoot too. I do have redo any changes I've made such as renaming the HTC update files as they get replaced by HTC. Things like TiBU and ES File Explorer root requiring options work. Things like Xposed don't.
Don't know how I got here as I tried all sorts of combos until it sunk in that SS 2.8.4 just was not going to work on my phone.

I literally have no idea what happened, the stump root app still says 'device is rooted', but the root checker app says i don't have root access. I tried a couple of different apps to check for root access, and all show that I do NOT have root access.
any help, ANY at all to get root would help immensely! I'm trying to get a custom recovery (prob twrp) so i can flash a cm12 nightly rom...

i did, and it even worked (it showed 'rooted' on the download mode on the g2), and when i checked on the phone, it had supersu on it. BUT, supersu failed to update its binaries.... and root checker still said i was NOT rooted.
i am considering putting a stock rom on it to 20c (the update before 20y) using LG Flash tools. any links/suggestions would help!

I guess you have done permanent unroot under super su app in the past. If so then you have to flash stock tot again.

Hey, guys. I found a way to root Alcatel Onetouch Flint by Cricket Wireless. First, you have to enable USB Debugging and Unknown Sources. Then, download the kingroot app from kingroot.net After rooting is complete, reboot your phone. When it boots back up, download SuperSU from google play. It will ask to update binary click normal. It will ask you to remove other superuser apps (kingroot and purify) click ok andit will do it for you. If it says binary update failed just click reboot and superSU works fine ater reboot.

No custom recovery yet cuz we can't unlock the bootloader yet
So I found an option to "allow OEM bootloader unlock" in developer options but still no way to actually unlock it yet
I know I'm late to the party, but wanted to say good work and I got one myself after they lowered the price at Target to $50. Purchased an unlock code for $6 and will be using the root method you lined out after I get and use my sim unlock code. Thanks again!!!

Getting SuperSu to replace Kingroot was super annoying and frustrating.
SuperSu Me just hangs cause KingUser doesn't like to be replaced and it makes sure you know that by installing itself as a system app.

That did for me effortlessly and SuperSu updated the binary after soooo many failed attempts.

You'll understand after you read the last step.
SuperSu Me should be ran after switching to remove KingRoot files from phone.
Root, Xposed and TWRP is easily achieved as long as you know how to follow directions.

lost root
I rooted my device using KingRoot , but I never could get SuperSU to install binary codes. I had read how to replace it so I download the zip file and the only thing it didwas send me error that KingRoot has stopped working. No root access. Question is do can I just start over using the instructions u gave. As u can probable tell this is my first time rooting a phone..

Yea just restart ur phone. If KingRoot is still installed, remove it, and then reinstall KingRoot again. If it's already removed just reinstall it. After rooting with KingRoot, download SuperSU from Google play and update binary using the "normal" method. Then it will ask to remove other superuser apps click OK or yes so it will remove KingRoot for u

Stuck on initial startup software update
Hi!, its me again Miss learning as I go, so I lost !y phone and I used PC to log into Android device manager and erased my phone, (Alcatel flint) oh and it was rooted. I got my phone back and when do the whole initial google startup I get to software update and its still doing that. The crazy thing is that I still get text and calls and once I received the first ones that left the messaging app and call open and hit recent app key and I can send text or I can hit the notifaction on the lock screen.home key doesn't work and back sends me to the update agn.......I was able to go thru pull down motivation bar and get to settings. Added my google acct that way but I still get google play services not supported on this device contact manufacturing..... HELP

Easier way to root Alcatel Flint (Cricket)

Hey, guys. I found a way to root Alcatel Onetouch Flint by Cricket Wireless. First, you have to enable USB Debugging and Unknown Sources. Then, download the kingroot app from kingroot.net After rooting is complete, reboot your phone. When it boots back up, download SuperSU from google play. It will ask to update binary click normal. It will ask you to remove other superuser apps (kingroot and purify) click ok andit will do it for you. If it says binary update failed just click reboot and superSU works fine ater reboot.

Seems like this thread is alive, and the phone is still available in retail stores in the US.
You can root this phone without having to go through the kingroot app. See this thread:

Is there a way to bypass cricket hotspot lock. My phone is rooted and I installed Xposed but I can't find a way to bypass wifi tethering lock.

It is for 5040N/5040W but Works on our 5054O!! You will have SuperSU!!

I did this to both of my flints. Rooted by kingo. Installed build.prop. Changed fm transmit from false to true. Net used ex file explorer. Show hidden files. Delete power roll back app. I’m on $100 for 5 lines plan. I use over 300 GB per line. Hope that helps.

I've been running a hotspot on my flint for over a year…
1. root (i used kingo)
2. install "DisableService"
3. disable system service "com.tctApp.serviceEntitlement
4. reboot and setup hotspot
5. I uninstalled kingo and rebooted and the "disable" stuck and still works.
