honey comb? why would you want that? anyway no one as far as i know has been charged for tethering after freezing or removing that app. the roms dont offer much but a couple are deodexed which makes them smaller, maybe faster and makes them better for themeing, other than that you can probably do everything else on your own.

I am far from a newb..just gotta quick question
I am def not rooting my Xoom cause I dont feel it needs it at all.
I have the wifi only and this is what i've got..
Android Version: 3.0.1
Kernel version: 2.6.36.3-g2a4197e-
[email protected] #1
Build number:
HWI69
Is this the correct build number for my Wi-Fi only Xoom? or did I miss an update?
That is all. Thanks in advance.
you should root anyway
but in reguards to your post yes that is the current build for the wifi xoom
Why root the XOOM? Coming from the gTablet where I could throw a new ROM on daily I could see why that should be rooted but until a new ROM comes out and more importantly until Motorola (or Google according to some) can give me an update that will allow me to use my sd card I see now reason to root this device.
If I am missing something please enlighten me.

I agree. No need to root really. I am happy with the xoom as is. I have no desire to load a custom rom. I think only the 3G version has been updated since release. Our Wifi only version has not......yet.

Wifi version had the latest version out of the box, so there is nothing to update yet.
I was kind of wondering the same thing right after rooting.... Why did I?
On a 3g/4g model it would have made sense, but with the wifi only version I'm not gaining much other than titanium backup.
Kind of kicked ma'self in da but there.
But coming from the Archos 70 (gfs, tablet now), and the Galaxy Tab on Sprints network, I'm happily impressed and satisfied for now.
Just need to wait to see if Sprints data packages stay the same if/when they get the newer Galaxy tabs.
We are on the latest version of Android so i see no since in rooting it at all. None. Like phones, yes. But not a tablet that is up to date. Makes zero sense. There is no bloat ware, nothing it needs. Its fast as sh!t and no lag. People expect too much from everything and then when the device dies or bricks they blame the OEM. LOL
I believe in no phone left behind.. that's why i rooted my Mytouch 4G. But not a tablet that has THE ONLY VERSION OF HONEYCOMB in the world.. think about it. It doesn't need a custom ROM because the UI rocks. No bloat and its fast. What else could you want? Nothing.
I think most of it comes from two things.. boredom and curiosity.
But more power to ya.

I have all the same but a diffent kernel cause i am rooted, ( wifi-only from launch day )
There are strong reasons to root, but they don't apply to everyone. I have been a crazy from addict with my phones (especially back in the glory days of WinMo and energyROM I was flashing daily) but here I am with a Xoom and I haven't rooted it yet. Why? Because it's great how it is. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Now, when the honeycomb source comes out I'm gonna be unlocking the boot loader like Houdini but for now I'm quite pleased with the xoom and honeycomb and just enjoying her in her virgin form... for now... mwa ha ha.

I would definitely love to add CIFs support. Overclock? Maybe, I'll wait to see how the browser get cleaned up in updates first.
I haven't rooted yet because I don't want to flash a different kernel on the device just to root (yet).
I agree with Ianas that there isn't much of a reason until the source code is released and people start developing on it.
overclocking is bitter/sweet helpful/hurtful. You can enjoy the extra fast speed at a cost to your battery, that's your bitter/sweet. You can load and play games faster, surf faster do everything faster at a cost to the longevity of your processor, there gos your helpful/hurtful. Enjoy
Xoom-HINES_57
UPDATE: 5/2/2011
I downloaded HWI69 at the Verizon MOTO site and it is all back to normal now.
Thanks,
DW

Ok, I am probably the dumbest person on here. I did not know the difference between the MZ600 and the MZ604, until a few miutes ago. Because I have done some stupid things, I have soft-bricked my WiFi-Only Xoom several times.
I am presently running the following:
Android 3.0 (not 3.0.1) with Kernel 2.6.36.4Tiamat_Xoom-v1.4.0-gb0d8751 [email protected]#1
Build number: HRI39 (not HWI69).
Can anyone please tell me HOW to get this Wifi-Only MZ604 back to original?
I don't care if it's rooted or not. I am able to use my SD Card and run rooted software and overclock to 1504Mhz, but I really don't care about all that. I would just like to be back to normal because I presently have a "Xoom-Hines57" and I think the tablet is really CONFUSED.
NOTE: I tried the directions at Motorola to get back to HWI69 but I only get < "Waiting for device" > and nothing ever happens. It just sits there forever.
I really didn't mean to write a book, but I wanted to list all that I am aware of.
Now I am told that Update HMJ07B will be out today but I don't know if it is for the Wifi-Only or not.
I started out with a Viewsonic G-Tab and screwed it up about a dozen times, but I got REALLY EDUCATED with it and when I got it running really good I gave it to my wife.
Thanks! DW
After using about 20 different roms I discovered that that I like it the way it came. Although, I did root it to use any rooted only apps, lol.

Have you tried a Sense cleaned up (bloatware) ROM? In any case, you might want to use Titanium to at least freeze some of the bloatware apps. You should still be able to get the OTA 2.3 update if/when HTC/TMo finally gets around to it.
I am not sure if being rooted will prevent that.
root on stock ROM shouldnt prevent it. although you will probably lose root. good idea to wait to update and see what the devs say about any new update. losing root to a new update isnt cool because you never know how long it will take for some one to figure out how to root again.
I am with you. I have not tried nor want to try any roms. I really like the default rom as is. I came from the HD2 where I flashed so many different roms, I ended up staying with a version of the mytouch 4g. Then I went and bought a real mytouch 4g and love it. I also rooted to get rid of the crappy apps. No problem with keeping it as is. People will always try and talk you into flashing a custom, but to be honest this is the first time I never have had any bugs or issues that I had to live with until the "next update".
same here...no matter how many different ROMS I flash, I always end up going back to the stock MySense. I did have a great experience with Orange Sense tho, pure sense and blazing fast thanks to Faux
Totally with you guys, after flashing several roms, trying to get them to work properly, then ending up too frustrated to continue, went right back to stock rom. rooted and removed bloatware. now happy as can be.
Same deal here. I came from the HD2 running android as well with the MT4G build, then I just bought the real deal. Mainly for the wifi calling and the front camera for the video calling. I gave the HD2 to my daughter and for some reason just last week the touch screen stopped working,, for windows and android. So there sending me a replacement, it should be here sometime this week. Does any of you know if I can use HP3 to flash roms and android builds? cuz I did use HD2 and Now I can't find it but I did find HD3. I waS Just wondering if they did the same thing. but I'm glad to hear i'm not the only one who digs the stock sense. I thought I was the only one.. LOL.. although now that CM7 is officially out I may give it a look... but I'm sure as always i'll end up back with stock.. and hopefully we'll get the honeycomb upgrade or the 2.3 sooner or later..
I'm also happy with the Stock Sense Rom, so happy in fact that I haven't rooted yet lol. My last phone was a mytouch 3g, which I rooted a few months into owning it, because with that phone there were so many glitches and so much lag that you had to root it to get it to work decently. And I wound up flashing a bunch of sense roms lol. But with this phone, it pretty much works and does everything I need it to out of the box.
With that said, do you guys really think it's still worth it to root for the non-rom-flashing benefits? i.e. setcpu and removal of bloatware? For my needs, I don't really feel like I need to overclock the phone, but I like the idea of underclocking to save battery...also, while the bloatware apps are annoying, it's not like they have taken away any functionality of the phone...I know everyone here's MO is "ROOT ASAP" but it seems like it's a little more complicated than it was for the MT3G, and while I'm not an idiot, I'm not really a tech-whiz either lol. Just not sure if it's worth the trouble and risk if I don't want/need to flash different roms.
I ran stock for a month and used ADW Launcher EX (normal version does this also) in order to hide the bloatware from the app drawer. This phone has so much power that for me it was out of sight out of mind with bloatware. I would assume LPP and other home replacement apps would have similar functions.
I flashed around a bit after rooting but always came back to stock, but then I switched to Orange Glacier by Faux123. It's stock, just quicker and debloated with some system apps moved in case you want to remove them also. IMO it's a bit better, but I still haven't decided how life changing it is His kernels def are.

I waited around 10 days before I rooted my phone just to get a nice feel of how things ran. yes I would definitely root if I were you. if you dont want to uninstall the bloatware, you can just freeze them with titanium. setcpu with a custom kernel underclocking with screen off will improve battery life as well(only OC to play games or view videos)
hello guys, this is my first time using a android phone. I like the stock Rom but i hate how slow the phone is running. Is there a way for me to overclock the phone and get rid of the awful bloatware tmo put in this thing?

has anyone gotten to the netflix app to work on just 4.5.588? and if not is there a simpler way of loading up .595 without having to use bootstrap and all that other crap.
I was able to get 2.3 4.5.588 with just a simple update.zip file. Is there one for .595??? I would really like to get netflix on my phone since im always out on the road.
I've never used bootstrap or been rooted before. So i want to avoid going thru all of that process.
I wish! Im running GingerSense Remix on my Inc and it's a no go. It was working on SR4.0 but I wanted sense 2.0/3.0 Hopefully soon though, these devs are geniuses, i'm sure something will come along.
I have rooted my Inspire4G to free myself of ATT bloatware and the fact that they lock down third party app locations. I did not appreciate them saying I could not install apps from sites other than the market. I just bought my Xoom and see that third party sites are available to use. What then I ask are the benefits of rooting these aprticular devices. I purchased the WiFi version and expect to use my rooted Inspire4G as wireless hotspot for on-the-go internet access for the Xoom. Am I missing something?
Thanks in advance.

If you can't get your phone to emit your hotspot via infrastructure then you need to root to flash the ad-hoc zip that is floating around. Having your xoom @ 1.4 ghz+ makes it feel much more smoother also. I can't wait until the tiamat kernel adds undervolt for even better battery life.

just follow the instructions in this post for root, kernel, and a rom all in one after you flash cwm. I just finished flashing tiamat rom 1.1 easily in minutes.
It just occurred to me that I installed the 3.1 OTA update. Can I still run that method or must I wait until the method itself is updated?
Yes,
Backup through cwm and back your apps up. Back up whatever is on your xoom too.
I'm just so effin fustrated cause this crap is getting old. ALL I WANT IS A PHONE THAT DOES WHAT IS SAYS! Stock was crap, so I rooted. Now the Roms I've tried are way above what stock was. I'm gratefull to all the Devs that make this all possible. I'm in no way upset with all their hard work. They've worked hard to improve the crappy stock ROMs. Here's a list of my probs...and this is common with ALL ROMS, stock, custom, bloated, debloated, odexed, deodexed, w/ voodoo, w/out voodoo. most of my probs are with the net.
4g freezes...I get constant hiccups when I need the net the most. I just want it to work all the time..jebus!
HotSpot freezes...this is caused by the problem above. Now I pay for hot spot and use the App, and since rooted I use WiFi tether. Still same prob. My PC loads pages fast and DL quickly, then all of a sudden...nothing. I have to cycle Airplane mode. This is just getting old already...just work like it does in the damn commercials!
SiriusXM....I love listening to it. I listen in the car, but when I have a 4G hicupp, music is gone...cycle airplane mode...or restart cause the App gets frozen as well. The app works by DL about 5 mins of airplay at a time...I get stops and freezes when it does that too.
Madden 12 not smooth...why have a game compatable with a phone that doesn't work properly? BS...
Same with Skype...never works like it should.
I just want my phone, apps, and internet to work when I need it. IS that too much to ask? I can never catch a break. Right now I'm on HumbleComb 4.0. So far this is the best ROM I've had. Still have same probs, but they happen fewer than with other ROMS...
I never tired Darkcharge cause it didn't have the toolbox. Now that it does I might try it. Should I? Or should I wait for the new 2.3.5 that P3 has been saying is the best Stock ROM beating out MotoBionic, and HTC Tbolt?
Anyone else have all these issues? Am I too picky? Just wanted to vent my frustration and see if other experience the same.
Check your PM.
sucks to hear you're having these problems but a lot of them are hardware/software related an not fixable as of yet, there is a huge issue with data connectivity on the Charge which seems to be the huge deal and the GB leaks are full of bugs (and not officially supported yet which is why there's problems with apps/games on GB)... the only thing I could suggest is Imnuts Infinity rom, I had maybe 1 little issue the whole time I ran it which I unfortunately can't say about the other roms
blazing through on my 4G Droid Charge
The best luck I've had is with the ep1w leak that I manually de-bloated, and zipalign using the ron toolbox. Also installed immuts repacked 2.3.5 voodoo kernal. Runs smooth. I can't remember my last force close or restart since I've been on this set up. Also using launcher pro plus
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
Thanks for the replys...I will try what has been suggested... still I hope when we finally get an official update(2.3.5)...and the ROMs that follow that..
