i know u guys are probably thinking not another gps thread, well today i discovered on the stock, or ultimate rom that telenav gps locks on rather quickly its actually not a bad app i did like 6 tests and had almost instantaneous lock ons on all of them, the other navigation app the blue navigation that comes with the phone takes forever to lock it worked when i first got my phone but its hosed for some reason and i know alot of u guys are having the same problem, it sux cuz i really like the stock nav, but i dont wanna wait a half hour to get a lock. so for now i think im gona use telenav it locks on every time for me, i just wonder y that one does n not the blue navigation (the other app). so im just sharing my experience if u havent tried telenav give it a shot
Isn't Telenav $10 a month? $120 a year? No thanks. I've been using CoPilot for about a year. First on Windows Mobile, now on Android. $29 one time payment. Maps downloaded directly to SD. Needs no network connection. My GPS locks on within 10 seconds. This is on the stock rom - just rooted.
[Update: By the way, I've used Telenav for a couple of months. Great program. Just didn't see the need to pay for Navigation program month after month. I usually know where I'm going. I use CoPolit mostly for the Active Traffic feature - thats $10... a year.]

no its not for the premium version it might be listen ive used it for 2 months and my bill has not changed at all when u go into the app it will say download premium version?? say no, and voila! u have basic nav, but its awesome it lets u pick from 3 routes which one u choose is ur liking the other one doesnt. the premium version is garbage anyways
im telling u dkb go into the app, did u even go into it??? lol u dont have to pay!!! only if u download the premium version, ur still paying with copilot! this one is FREE
Telenav does indeed cost $. Also my Google navigation locks on in seconds. I use it all the time.
No issues. Also you make a lot of great post. But the wall of text. Hurts my eyes.

Yeah seriously...punctuation, spacing and grammar. Helps a lot.
sorry guys i just get into it when im typing lol kinda just keep going.
and yeah its definitly free ive used it for 2 months now and bill has not changed. i know for the premium version it costs
I find the telenav voice is more clear than the google one. I like the maps on the google app better. I've used the free basic telenav and not cost. if could get the google nav to have a more clear voice i would stick with that.

This is the Sprint Telenav.
Opinions on this vs Google Nav? I've been using Google Nav since day 1 and have never tried Sprint lol. :/ Am I missing out, or should I just stick with the big G? lol.
I used google too but then I heard that sprint is better... and it is.
I think google navigation is way better....I used to use sprint navigation and when I got my Evo I haven't used sprint navigation since....google is much more real time vs Sprint navigation....alot of the times it would tell u to make a turn after u have already passed it...google maps it just on point....the only thing I miss is the fact that Sprint let's u know in advance if there will be a delay in traffic....other than that....Sprint nav. Could kiss my a$$.....lol....so I say stay with the big G...

fact is telenav is the best nav. now, what program thats using telenav is a different story.
for me its faster to find and get directions via google maps than it is sprint nav.
anyone have the 6.2 version ?
Google nav in my opinion is better. Wish i could use different voices tho like darth vader maybe
Personally I think the Sprint App is much better than the Google App as far as directions. The Google App may look better but that is a personal preference.
I've found that with Google, directions can get really screwy and send you a way you would never go if you were/are familiar with the area. The biggest problem I have with the Google version is that once you get outside of larger metro areas the actual maps are not as accurate. I don't know the source of the maps but I have found that Google has many more "paper" streets. Paper streets are street that do not physically exist. At some point design plans were approved but the road was never constructed. Unless you like offroading, it gets really annoying when it tells you to turn but there isn't a road!
It's easy to choose what app you like better as they can both be run at the same time. You can't make both of them show up on the screen at the same time but you can switch between the 2 by swiping down the task bar. Give that a try and see which one is better for where you live.
I prefer Google nav. It is accurate in my area, and it seems to integrate into the system better. When I get a calendar invite, p.o., or any kind of addy in Outlook, I copy, open up my iGoogle home page, paste it into the map widget, and the highlight the star. When I get in the car its on my phone. With Telenav you have to log onto thier website and add the address manually. You can still copy/paste but you have to go back and forth first copying the street address, then the city/state/zip, and then give it a label. If I have a meeting at XYZ mall - 7777 anyroad anytown, usa 77777 I can copy/paste the whole thing into maps and it will show up on my phone labeled with the phone number, mall hours, the ability to search for a restaurant/hotel nearby, etc.

I like them both.
telenav is cool is because it saves the no toll/hov/traffic option, the three route options come up before you start, it reroutes around traffic, and the voice is better (except for the few random streets in that weird voice.
Google navigation has the advantage of being integrated with other apps better, and it looks better. It also doesn't repeat the same upcoming direction an annoying amount of times like telenav.
Question - has telenav ever told you tour destination was in the middle of a freeway? Google navigation has done that to me more than a few times.
Now that we have a new TELENAV version for SPRINT I saw someone say you need the premium version @ $4.99 a moth for it to do traffic routing? I dont see that listed as a premium feature... is anyone paying for the premium features and is it worth it? what exactly do you get (anything different that what you see when you click GET PREMIUM??)
Thanks ...

Looks fantastic. So, anyone putting down the $15 for this?
Also good to see they added app drawer and changed some things.
EDIT:
SPB will be putting the shell for purchase on their website in the next 1-2 weeks. Therefore, if like me you have not decided to purchase this yet, I would recommend you wait until it's up on their site to purchase from there and not the market.
Why?
If you go to their site, you will see their symbian and Windows Mobile versions pages (i.e. http://www.spb.com/pocketpc-software/mobileshell/ ) . Both of them have a trial period. This is reason number one. Reason number two is that both also have a 30-day money back guarantee - no questions asked. It stands to reason that it would be like this also for the android version. And indeed I was told in an email that you would be able to request refunds outside of the 15 minutes if purchased from their site instead of their market.
So, I'll be waiting for this and if you haven't gotten yet but are considering - I'd suggest you do so as well.
From what I've read across the web, it doesn't work with a LOT of phones/roms. It seems that depending on the ROM you are using, it will work or not.
Fantastic for a launcher that has been in development since a year or so...
And this price is from the WinMo days. C'mon Spb team, come back to reality.
OK I paid these 10€ for this and played with it for a couple of hours. ATM I'm uninstalling it and wait for some major updates. It looks awesome, it is VERY smooth on my DZ currently on stock unrooted. For me it is still too much an "initial release" - there's definitely needed a lot of work on it still.

I thought that was just an issue with the beta/ unoffically installed beta (my device got the unsupported message with that). Can anyone confirm this?
I had the beta on my sgs and it was super smooth but took forever to load initially (probably because it was a beta release). I had posted screenshots here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12026403#post12026403
It had some really pretty and useful widgets.
But I would never buy it for this price...the advantages it offer in no way justify the price. I am satisfied with Launcher Pro for now
I bought this and testet on my Original Desire Z, and on my SGT [email protected]
It worked very nicely on both devices. (even though tablets are not supported)
Anyway, it used up almost 70mb ram. And slowed things down abit, coming from LauncherPro.
It was not possible to change icons on either screen or dock..
Uninstalled for now, and awaits updates.
$15? Seriously? No way!!!

+1 for sure, 15 bucks is obscene
Maybe it's my Windows Mobile 6 background talking, but $15 while higher then most apps in Android isn't a huge deal breaker to me. If this was an app that I used occasionally or a game, I might not go for it, but isn't your home launcher one of the most important apps on your phone (if not the most important one) ?
I think they would be better off if they had a demo of some sort though. Obviously many people won't risk it at this price.
Anyway, I bought it and am playing now. Awesome Eye Candy, and faster the LP, ADW, and Zeam by a mile. Also, I have not hit the re-drawing of widgets on the home screen thing that drives me nuts.
Biggest minus so far - no support for Scrolling Widgets (or I haven't found the option for it)
For those who bought it. I am curious about the Weather Widget. In the beta that I was using, the Weather couldn't find my town. How is the weather found now? Does it use GPS, 3g/4g or just type the name of your town, and hope it is in there database. Can you put in your zip code? I remember in the old days with SPB Mobile shell, that the weather for towns and cities were limited, and you had to by the Weather app separately to get you town.

The weather panel works very well.
It can find your location via GPS or cell tower and has multiple settings for update frequencies, WIFI or data, celsius or farenheit and metric or imperial measurements.
I have this launcher and believe it is worth the $15.
I can spend $15 in about 15 minutes at a bar w/friends.

On mine, I presume it's using 3g (my gps is on, but I haven't seen any activity) so I presume going off the tower. It correctly had my work city & now has my home city.
You can also manually pick a city name.
Thanks for the information on the Weather Widget. Does it have a Twitter or Facebook widget. If no, is there any twitter or facebook widget that will work with SPB?
I'm new to the forum. My Tilt2's screen died, and AT&T let me do an early upgrade to the Inspire. I have been using Garmin Mobile XT on my Tilt2 as my navigator in my car. I won't receive my new Inspire until Thursday. Does it come with navigation out of the box? I was hoping to utilize the on-board GPS, not rely on an internet connection. Can you suggest something similar to Garmin or Tom Tom. I like cheap. Thanks for your help.
I really miss Garmin Mobile XT from Tilt2 and HD2, too. It comes with Google Maps and Navigation but the best I've found so far is CoPilot Live in the market. I would think that Garmin would eventually release their software for Android since one of the Garmin phones ran Android but I don't have any idea when that might be.

I love the google nav
Google Nav or Mapquest
Both are decent and free, and Mapquest upgraded their voice directions piece. I think you will be VERY happy with your Inspire, and you will find either of these to get you (literally) where you want to go.
TeleNav

I use the google nav too its stock on the phone out of the box and I love it. But it does require data usage.
CoPilot is great because of the offline use, fantastic for traveling in areas with poor network connection.
Try navigon now on the market. It's way better than copilot but it's about $30 while you can get copilot for $5.
I have copilot because it was the only thing available on the market at the time but if I could choose today I would go with navigon as it have better maps and routing.
Copilot have a drm/licensing hell and if you're into flashing new roms be ready to mail their tech support often requesting a reset on the activation.

I was poking around my phone and decided to check out TeleNav app to see how it differs from Google Navigation.
anyway, when you first start it up it gives you a setup screen with 2 bars to choose from.
1) TeleNav free
2) TeleNav no charge
now since it says "free" one would think it's, well, FREE!
anyway, being confused to the difference between free and no charge, I pressed on free.
well, guess what...
they meant "free to download" their premium service! argh!
tried to cancel through the app and it gave me a 888 number to call so I did.
TeleNav CS rep basically told me to call Tmo CS to cancel, even though it's their service.
got it taken care of through Tmo but anyway, I think this is very dishonest of TeleNav to program the setup page like that.
it should atleast say "free to DL premium" or something, not just "free".
seems like they decided to do this to trick people into sign up for their premium service.
it's just wrong. period.
anyway, sorry for the rant but felt I had to get it out there.
****in Telenav! Good looking out. That is one of the apps I first disabled when we got fre3vo.
"Unlimited" and "free" are virtually never what they seem to be, but "free to download" is a new low.

Was the same way on the Vibrant...my wife clicked on the app to see what it was...no premium or none of that. Then one day I asked what this 2.99 charge was & she had no idea. I didn't catch it until 3 months later and was being charged for something we never used.

Hi guys, just a heads up. Copilot gps navigation is free. You can download any country map for free BUT, there's always a BUT, full voice guided navigation costs you £19.99 in the UK. But hey, its for free. Might be of use to somebody.

I don't think so mate. Its from the Play Store so it should be completely legitimate. I think you must've just encountered a bug or something that got you features that were supposed to be blocked.
Oh well, having read the reviews it sounds quite buggy in general. Waiting for the new Sygic...
Corrupt text inputs
Is it just my copy of it? On the Prime the text input does not work correctly and keeps adding or removing random letters. Cannot enter an email address easily and now have no idea what password was set.
Works well on the Xoom but not the prime.

Yes, I would recommend finding a different navigator... I have the full version and it has a lot of bugs and their support basically sucks... Their solution to every bug report is that there is something wrong on my side and they want me to delete everything on my phone to fix their bugs....

I bought this app for my Wm6.5 and had utterly terrible support, bad enough that I relish the opportunity to let everyone else know. They had this botched system where when you upgraded ROM you had to uninstall and deregister to be able to re-install. Needless to say the system failed and I had to jump through a million hoops to get them to give me a new activation code as if I was some kind of a criminal. Best avoided for sure.

Unless there is an application or setting on the device causing it to crash? Ideally I don't want to hard reset my device.
