[Q] Does rooting fix these probems? - T-Mobile LG G2x

I am having reboot problems and freezing problems with my G2x. I was wondering does rooting your G2x fix these problems? If so can anyone give their opinion on the best ROM and kernel with or without over clocking? I came from a MT3G and I rooted and flashed many, many ROMs on that so I have knowledge of rooting and flashing ROMs and kernels.

It has been known to fix some if these issues

While rooting, in itself, will not fix these problems. Rooting and then flashing custom roms may help with these issues. However, most roms out are bascially in beta testing phases at this point and you will probably run into one problem or another when using a custom rom.

Thanks! I really want to root. I just remember sometimes after rooting my MT3G and flashing different ROMs I would sometimes have calling, messaging, email, market, and gps problems. Just was trying to find something that worked with little or no issues.

[Q] Return or Flash Custom ROM?

I've been trying my best to avoid returning the phone, but mine is freezing 10-12 times a day. All require hard reboot. I rooted and put CWM on. Here's my question:
Is flashing a custom ROM (CM7, EB, or Bio2) going to fix the freezing issues?
Has anyone who had freezing issues fixed their problems with a ROM?
The leak seemed to work fine for me. No reboots & no lockups
Just a few minor bugs

I had problems with the stock Froyo ROM, reboots etc, they pretty much disappeared after switching to the any of the other rom's here. It's easy to return the phone back to factory stock. IMHO, I'd recommend trying a few of the rooted rom's here first before returning it.

Rooted today, before I flash,

I ugraded to the Sensation from the original MyTouch 3g. When I rooted and flashed froyo, especially Cyanogenmod, I was no longer able to send MMS. Will this happen with my Sensation? The guy in the T-Mobile store said it was because the Mytouch was never meant to handle Froyo, so is that just it? Or should I not flash a custom rom?

Every custom rom has its quirks, most of the sensation roms are really stable, just make sure you have the appropriate kernal (which is most the time included in the rom itself) as well as the right firmware. If something doesn't work its likely that someone has had your same problem and it has already been fixed just search around. I am running vipers 1.1.0 sense 4.0 and it is great, the only thing that doesn't work is MHL (HDMI out) but not many people use that anyway. Here is the link for that rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671547
Hit thanks if I helped.
I've ran just about every custom Rom for ICS there is and I've never had issues like that. Read the change logs of the developers and they will tell you EXACTLY what is working and what is not working. Most of the time mms is always working. Custom roms for the sensation have proven to be much more stable than stock roms and that's a fact! Sometimes the representatives of the providers love to tell you that there are incompatibility issues with roms when in fact they are wrong! Once I had a representative tell me custom roms are not updated or supported like stock roms what a joke that is. My roms have more support and updates than I've EVER seen with stock! When I was running stock I had force closes and random reboots all the time, I have NEVER had that on my custom Rom ! Also if an issue does arise the developers are right there and the community is eager to help resolve the problem! Oh yes I do recommend rooting! With stock your forgotten, with rooting you have a wonderful support system ! Also with rooting you can truly make your device your own with tons of customization ! I don't regret it for a second! I say go for it! Hope this helps!
Sometimes issues will arise with a Rom but usually can be worked out with a solution from the community. Remember to read the change logs this way you know exactly what your getting when flashing a Rom. The developers are very open when it comes to issues . I think you will be very happy with custom roms. Try several until you find one that fits your style and personal needs. Best of luck.

[Q] (Q) what can i do to my Infuse?

its rooted thats about it.
what i mean is like a software update or something?
It all depends on "what" you want to do with it. There's kernels and roms for your flashing pleasure. I suggest you first download Odin and the stock image from gtg's ultimate unbrick thread.

see I don't know what flashing the roms or kernels do? as well as a brick or unbricked phone?
im a complete noob sorry.
I came from messin with iPhones to adroids

If you "brick" your phone it means it won't work, you can't do anything with it. Sometimes it happens when you mess up your phone by flashing a ROM or kernal wrong.

Flashing is the process of changing out your stock ROM to an aftermarket ROM created by one of the developers here on xda.
Depending on how bad you "brick" your phone, you can usually undo it.
In most cases, you can get it back to working...just like you took it out of the box by using a developers method. You can read about it in the dev thread. Gtg's ultimate unbrick will work, that's what I use when I screw up.

I recommend starting with a froyo ROM. There are 3 to choose from for our phone. You can read about them on the dev thread. The developers here have got it down and they are very stable.
After you flash your first ROM, (and mess it up a few times) you can use Gtg's Ultimate Unbrick to fix it.
Then you can start on kernels when your ready.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997R using XDA App
The only way to hardbrick a device is to flash a bad bootloader, and this is next to impossible to do on our phones. Only one person has ever hardbricked, and they were volunteering for a dangerous experiment. Our phones have a lot in place to try and prevent hardbricking.
thanks a lot guys.
@reconrob so I should do a rom firts?
and why do I have to unbrick after I flash a rom?
and what's the diff between a rom and a kernel?

You shouldn't HAVE to unbrick, but sometimes things get hosed up. Honestly the "unbrick" solutions here are closer to a "complete reformat and reinstall".
ROM vs. kernel - hard to describe. The ROM is the complete user-facing software stack - libraries, apps, etc. Changing ROMs from one to another usually requires wiping your user data and restoring from backup. (Updating a ROM from one minor revision to another usually doesn't, although sometimes a ROM dev will force a wipe, such as with Infused v2.0.3 and 2.0.4)
The kernel is the absolute base operating system that handles hardware interfaces. Kernels tend to enable features related to hardware such as an improved sound driver (Voodoo Sound), tweaked battery charging algorithms, improved I/O management (really low level stuff that just improves how "responsive" the device feels), and overclocking/undervolting. (OC is self-explanatory - makes your device faster at the potential expense of stability. UV can save battery, again at the potential risk of making your device crash occasionally.)
Some rarer software features require kernel support - for example many VPN software packages require a feature called tunneling in the kernel. Stock Froyo kernels were missing this, stock Gingerbread kernels for our device seem to all have it so far. Almost all "custom" kernels have it. Same for CIFS (Windows LAN file sharing) support - needs a custom kernel with the drivers added.
Yes, you should install a ROM first.
Remember, its called "bricking" your phone when you mess up or if something goes wrong. It's a slang word, as in your phone is as worthless as a brick. If everything goes right when you install your ROM then there is no "unbricking".
The aftermarket ROM is a customized interface with your phone. Again, there are 3 Froyo ROMs (currently) to choose from for our phone. All ROMs come with a kernel. Kernels are like the brain of your phone. We also have some great kernel developers here for our phone so, you can change out the kernel or the ROM...or both.
Read the instructions on that particular ROM or kernel thread very carefully and you won't have any problems. You got through rooting easy enough so you will do just fine.

@Entropy512 wow this is so hard lol. but thanks anyways! i kinda get it now. i just see how i can do apple so easily even put ndroid on a 3g but i cant do this stuff lol..
@ReconRob ok. and which one do yall suggest the best?
There isn't one ROM that's really any better than the other. All of our Infuse Devs collaborate, so the different ROMs are flavors. It's a personal choice.
Good luck and have fun!

[Q] Rooting G2x question?

Hey guys,
One of my friends has the G2x for T-Mobile. I recommended she root her phone to possibly fix some issues she has been experiencing. Since most likely I will be rooting the phone for her, I have a few questions:
1. Touch screen unresponsive (will rooting help better the touch sensitivity)?
2. Low memory, as a result her phone freezes alot (bloatware), rooting should free memory?
3. Best method of rooting (link would be appreciated)?
4. Best/Top G2x Roms for daily driver (gingerbread)?
Any other G2x specific niche I should be looking into?
I want to root, setup and let the phone loose. I don't want to keep flashing and fix etc... I'm looking for (a) stability, (b) battery life, thanks in advance
For battery life, flash a morfic kernel and for stability and flash pheonixblood, or cm7 based eaglesblood rom
On mobile so can't provide link, use nvflash to put cwm recovery and when u flash the roms they are already rooted.
Never had screen unresponsive issues so I can't help there.
Also after you flash any rom u decide, download getril (free) from market to match ur ril so u don't have any baseband issues.
Also another rom alternative is is weapon g2x 3.0 then flash the new clip by kwes right after. Really stable, just not as stable.
Hope this helps

thats the thread i used and it was super easy... as for roms ive only used hellfire pheonix1.8-1.9-and 2.0. i liked 2.0 the best.. there is other kernels as mentioned to help with speed. hellfire pheonix2.0 has fauxs kernel built in and can OC to 1.4.. im running hellfire sandwich 1.3 right now and for a beta ICS its pretty damn smooth. still has alot of work to go but its good enough for daily use for me.. hope this helped.
Thanks guys
Yeah whatever you do, don't flash ics for here, unless you want her to keep bugging u.

[Q] Lag for ~2 minutes after boot

Even after re flashing ROMs, wiping dalvik cache, using ART, and using different ROMs/kernels, I always get a very noticeable lag (as if I use the powersave CPU governor) for around two minutes, until it suddenly becomes smooth...
I have heard this is a common problem, but I have not as of yet found a solution. Does anyone know what could be the cause?
Are you running stock, or a custom ROM? I haven't heard the problem on stock, but it's listed in the OP of many ROM threads as a known problem

That's a known issue.
Any current fix?
You can try restricting some startup apps which starts automatically after boot

Same problem here! I'm pleased there is someone else with the same issue as me! I've also tried many different ROM's, but the problem still persists. It's really annoying because it didn't used to happen, the problem only started when i swapped ROM's a couple of times. I am now using Carbon ROM, which didn't used to have this problem, but for some reason the issue is now present upon reinstallation over the standard US 4.4 Kitkat ROM.

Well, everybody who uses a CM based ROM has this issue. If it gets fixed in CM's source, all the other ROMs will have it fixed, too
@TheBananaz: you said it was a known issue, so do the developers know the cause of the regression?
All of the roms I have tried on our device does this. Not really sure why :/
Sent from my XT1031 using XDA Free mobile app
I'm not sure if they know why, but I can guarantee they're working hard to figure out why
I have lag on all roms apart from stock and slimkat.
this has been discussed in most of the threads relating to CM based roms, it's a well known issue
Is it posted in the official cyanogenmod ROM thread?
flash liquidsmooth it's a great rom and don't have that issue
