I've been trying my best to avoid returning the phone, but mine is freezing 10-12 times a day. All require hard reboot. I rooted and put CWM on. Here's my question:
Is flashing a custom ROM (CM7, EB, or Bio2) going to fix the freezing issues?
Has anyone who had freezing issues fixed their problems with a ROM?
The leak seemed to work fine for me. No reboots & no lockups
Just a few minor bugs

Same problem here...I really like the style of the phone.

I had problems with the stock Froyo ROM, reboots etc, they pretty much disappeared after switching to the any of the other rom's here. It's easy to return the phone back to factory stock. IMHO, I'd recommend trying a few of the rooted rom's here first before returning it.

I am having reboot problems and freezing problems with my G2x. I was wondering does rooting your G2x fix these problems? If so can anyone give their opinion on the best ROM and kernel with or without over clocking? I came from a MT3G and I rooted and flashed many, many ROMs on that so I have knowledge of rooting and flashing ROMs and kernels.
It has been known to fix some if these issues

While rooting, in itself, will not fix these problems. Rooting and then flashing custom roms may help with these issues. However, most roms out are bascially in beta testing phases at this point and you will probably run into one problem or another when using a custom rom.

Thanks! I really want to root. I just remember sometimes after rooting my MT3G and flashing different ROMs I would sometimes have calling, messaging, email, market, and gps problems. Just was trying to find something that worked with little or no issues.
I'm getting frustrated with the daily random reboots of my G2x running stock gingerbread. Does CM 7.2 resolve this? I've been holding off waiting for the official ICS to release so I can install CM10 but I'm getting impatient... Also, do I have to reinstall all my apps, and is my data erased?
Thanks!
I don't think random reboots will ever be solved 100% for this phone. However comparing stock 7.2CM vs other Roms I've used for the G2X, it has been the most reliable and stable for me. The phone still crashes or reboots once every 2-3 days for me usually, when I'm running cpu/gpu intensive apps but almost never when its idle.

No, I haven't yet. I think that i will sometime this weekend. Are there any good guides that I can follow? The one that is stickied says that it is outdated. I am running the latest baseband and software.
Just installed cm 7.2 with faux kernel 52... we'll see how this goes
I am posting it for first time but have tried many ROMs since GB ROMs on my skyrocket. I am not yet allowed to post this question on dev's ROM page. Recently I flashed Sky-Jelly-Bean ROM from Sean T11 beta. While the WiFi worked fine before flashing the 11.2 update, it became flaky after I flashed the update. Every 10 minutes or so it would switch to cell network and back to WiFi. This seriously impacts any downloads or streaming. Same happened with T10 base as well. I didn't notice it on T7.1 though.
I noticed this issue at home and at work. I had full WiFi signal when I had it. But still it switches to cell network about every 10 mins.
I did wipe cache and dalvik 5X before flashing the update. Fixed permissions too. Using TWRP open recovery for flashing the ROMs. Is anyone else noticing the same issue? Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks Sean for another wonderful ROM. I have been flashing all your ROMs and updates since GB ROMs on my skyrocket. None of them failed to impress me.
wait continues...
I have to wait for 9 more posts to start posting the questions directly in dev's ROM pages.
It's a beta. He stated if you want a flawless Rom go back to 7.1

Yeah, I took the risk with the beta. But I had the same issues with T10 as well. I wanted to know if anyone is facing similar issues or is it only me. Are you on T11? Do you see any similar issues?

I went and fixed permissions for few times and now the frequency of the problem has reduced, but not completely. I guess I have to live with that for now. Hoping future updates or ROMs from sean might fix it.
Thanks all for responding.

Dose anyone know where I can get a different boot animation for the sky jelly bean? To like the nexus one or the original jelly bean animation?
Try a different radio or reflash the current one.

I had that issue on UCLF6 and tried UCLI3. But both had the same issue.
As I mentioned before, it got much better after fixing permissions for few times. I can live with it until 4.2 updates come.

You might want to post this directly under Sean's SkyJelly bean thread if you are using his ROMs.
Btw, someone in that thread mentioned that the ROM stopped working after flashing a new boot animation. You might want to search around a bit before playing with flashing boot animations.

Hello, yesterday I was on my phone when it suddenly just seemed to shut off. I have cm10, and want to get rid of it and go back to stock. can i go back to the stock ics rom instead of gingerbread, and be able to do it on cm10 at the time? i can restore to the time i had my phone just rooted and stock ics. i just dont want to go through the trouble of going back to gingerbread stock rom and then updating to ics stock rom through kies. thanks in advance.
side question: is it normal for my phone to randomly shut off on cm10? from what i hear, its the screen of death. it happened to me 2 days after i flashed cm10 and then happened yesterday. (i flashed cm10 last month). if it occurs this often im going back to stock. im fine with the t mobile apps as long as no random reboots occur.
Just restore a backup it will work fine

so stock ics rom rooted will have no problems right? no random shut-offs? i want to stay out of this risky business.

i'd prefer not to, i feel nightlies pose more of a risk than the stable. I think i'll just go back to my backup.

Sorry to hear but the nightlies are very stable and with use of one of the custom kernels (lz or blue lightning) the phone is stable. If you decide to go back to stock ROM good luck with everything

I too have been experiencing what appears to be the SOD. The bottom "soft buttons" light up and the phone is dead. I have to perform a forced reboot to get it working. I am running CM 10-20130804 but it was happening on nightly builds before this version as well. It happens every few days for me. I keep hoping the next build will make it go away but it always comes back. I even posted the issue in the CM 10 thread but no one had any ideas other than a complete wipe and reinstall and i would rather not do that for CM10. I am waiting for the 10.2.....
mine shut off less frequently than yours. my question is: can i download stock ics rom from sammobile and use that through odin? i dont want to use stock gingerbread rom and then update through kies.

Nightlies are very stable. The listed "stable" has many issues and would pose more of a threat than the nightlies. Try them out sometime . If something happens (which I highly doubt something will) we will be here to help and guide you

I agree too. The stable is from 11/13/12, almost a year old, lulz. The nightlies are super stable and very customizable.

Truly amazing its almost a year. The cm10.2 ROM and variations are pretty stable for alpha builds. Once the camera is fixed we should be good to go.
I remember being the guinea pig testing a fully functioning rooted ROM stock and cm7. Come a long way lol

in the end i just went back to stock ics rom. no need to worry about random shut-offs (used to happen on stock rom rooted, with "shell has been granted superuser permissions"). can i delete the clockworkmod folder and root stuff? i take it i cant go into cwm recovery without root.
bump. final question is what do i need to delete to leave no traces of being rooted before? is it safe to delete the clockworkmod folder in my phone files?

The quote-unquote "Stable" build was not stable at all. It was captured before it was supposed to. Something like 2 or 3 nightly builds after that they incorporated the SOD fix into the kernel.
The latest nightly for CM10 is 100% stable as far as SOD, reboots, crashes, etc. I didn't ever have any problems with it up until I flashed beanstalk. I encourage you to give the latest nightly a chance before you go back to 4.0.4, but it's ultimately your choice
Agreed with above

Even after re flashing ROMs, wiping dalvik cache, using ART, and using different ROMs/kernels, I always get a very noticeable lag (as if I use the powersave CPU governor) for around two minutes, until it suddenly becomes smooth...
I have heard this is a common problem, but I have not as of yet found a solution. Does anyone know what could be the cause?
Are you running stock, or a custom ROM? I haven't heard the problem on stock, but it's listed in the OP of many ROM threads as a known problem

Same problem here! I'm pleased there is someone else with the same issue as me! I've also tried many different ROM's, but the problem still persists. It's really annoying because it didn't used to happen, the problem only started when i swapped ROM's a couple of times. I am now using Carbon ROM, which didn't used to have this problem, but for some reason the issue is now present upon reinstallation over the standard US 4.4 Kitkat ROM.

Well, everybody who uses a CM based ROM has this issue. If it gets fixed in CM's source, all the other ROMs will have it fixed, too
@TheBananaz: you said it was a known issue, so do the developers know the cause of the regression?
All of the roms I have tried on our device does this. Not really sure why :/

I'm not sure if they know why, but I can guarantee they're working hard to figure out why
I have lag on all roms apart from stock and slimkat.
this has been discussed in most of the threads relating to CM based roms, it's a well known issue
Is it posted in the official cyanogenmod ROM thread?
