[Q] Rooting G2x question? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Hey guys,
One of my friends has the G2x for T-Mobile. I recommended she root her phone to possibly fix some issues she has been experiencing. Since most likely I will be rooting the phone for her, I have a few questions:
1. Touch screen unresponsive (will rooting help better the touch sensitivity)?
2. Low memory, as a result her phone freezes alot (bloatware), rooting should free memory?
3. Best method of rooting (link would be appreciated)?
4. Best/Top G2x Roms for daily driver (gingerbread)?
Any other G2x specific niche I should be looking into?
I want to root, setup and let the phone loose. I don't want to keep flashing and fix etc... I'm looking for (a) stability, (b) battery life, thanks in advance

For battery life, flash a morfic kernel and for stability and flash pheonixblood, or cm7 based eaglesblood rom
On mobile so can't provide link, use nvflash to put cwm recovery and when u flash the roms they are already rooted.
Never had screen unresponsive issues so I can't help there.
Also after you flash any rom u decide, download getril (free) from market to match ur ril so u don't have any baseband issues.
Also another rom alternative is is weapon g2x 3.0 then flash the new clip by kwes right after. Really stable, just not as stable.
Hope this helps

thats the thread i used and it was super easy... as for roms ive only used hellfire pheonix1.8-1.9-and 2.0. i liked 2.0 the best.. there is other kernels as mentioned to help with speed. hellfire pheonix2.0 has fauxs kernel built in and can OC to 1.4.. im running hellfire sandwich 1.3 right now and for a beta ICS its pretty damn smooth. still has alot of work to go but its good enough for daily use for me.. hope this helped.

Thanks guys

Yeah whatever you do, don't flash ics for here, unless you want her to keep bugging u.

[Q] upgraded to a G2x expecting awesomness? =]

I am just posting this because i recently came from a Mytouch 4g. I got sick of HTC sense so now im going pure stock android. Just posting this because i know nothing about roms and such for this phone. Just wondering if someone could help me out which rom i should use, kernels, tricks, etc.... any help is appreciated and thanks in advance!
Hello and welcome. Like I tell all newcomers to the G2x, this phone has its bugs, but with the right combination of rom and kernel, this thing can be a beauty. I personally am using a pre-rooted stock OTA GB along with faux123 0.1.3 kernel. However, all phones are different and so are users, so you will have to experiment to find out what works best for you and your phone. Have fun.

Thanks for info. as soon as my G2x comes in the mail i will be trying various roms and kernels to find out whats right for me.
Nice =)
I'm running the stock ROM and I love this phone! There are bugs but for raw performance and features this phone is awesome. It also helps that I paid nothing for it!

Also how do you get that google banner under your name?
Well CM7 is always a good bet. Ive had great experiences with Weapon rom which is a more stock LG rom with tweaks.
MIUI is also working awesome. Im using 0.8.19 MIUI from the rom forum.
You'll need to NVFlash first which only takes a second. This installs a good clockworkmod recovery.
Then just download roms to SD and flash away.
No root required to start flashing. All custom roms have root access.

I had a friend make the banner for me, and he doesn't like other people using his work without his permission. But if you're trying to get your own banner, you just need to edit your signature, and insert the image.
My personal reviews:
CM Nexus 2.3.5: great rom, close to stock
Eaglesblood: lots of features
CM7: not for me, felt laggy
OMGB: fast and speedy, really close to stock with some nice features, but couldn't get data to work
Weapon: couldn't get data to work on my phone, I view it as Eaglesblood
MIUI: great, fast. ran into problems with battery life. Must of been the kernel.
Xboarder's Stock 2.3.3 rom: The current rom i'm using, quick, fast, and the closest to stock you're gonna get.
Hope this helps
Weapon G2X with faux's kernel is the best in my opinion. I'm getting 10+ hrs of battery even at 1.4 GHZ

New like you
I got my G2x in November and like you never messed with any ROM's or Kernels, basically never had a phone worth rooting so I never bothered to learn anything about it. Once I read the beginners guide on installing NVflash and CWM, I began flashing like crazy. I really liked CM7 and I am anxiously awaiting CM9. I got the fastest benchmark test with Eaglesblood and an OC kernal, but I just flashed this-
RG2x-MIUI v1.12.23 and so far I love it. I've never used MIUI before and so far it has been extremely smooth and looks awesome. This has the faux kernel built in and the benchmark test was almost as good as Eaglesblood. I did flash the CM7 camera and the Bravia hack and now the camera works as good as the stock GB one. However I don't think Wifi calling works. Hope that helps, I know you'll have fun like I did flashing all the different flavors out there!
Im using Eaglesblood with Faux123 0.4.7. Its really smooth no lag. Ive tried others but i always seem to come back to this one
I'm running weapon 3 with faux123 0.1.3 kernel at 1.4ghz and it runs great its fast and smooth and I get great battery life. I have also used miui and its a great rom as well.

[Q] Galaxy Skyrocket Custom Rom

Hello All,
I am a total newbie to all of this, I just bought a Galaxy s2 Skyrocket. I managed to find good info on how to root it and did that with something called superoneclick. So it is showing rooted with out the yellow triangle. Now for my question.
There are so many custom roms out there i have no clue what to do. All i am really looking for is a custom rom that will let me do the following if it is possible, wifi tethering, custom bootanimation and if it will let me overclock. And I guess something that is stable as i see mentioned on here a lot.
Anyway anyone that has time to help a newbie I would really appreciate it. There is a lot of great info on here but most of it is written for people that at least have a clue about this stuff.
Most of all i want to say thank you to anyone who is willing to help me in advance. And if you don't feel like helping a newbie I do understand that also.
Thank You
I like skyROCKeteer. It's a good, stable, custom rom. It'll suit all your needs. Check it out. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19279400

First of all thank you for your reply. Am I reading this correct that I install version 2.0 and then install the addons and fixes? Or will everything be fine with the 2.0 and the fixes are already in there. Sorry to be so much trouble some of it is just confusing to me and I dont want to brick "i believe that is the correct term" my phone.
Thank You

SkyRocketeer and Sky Ice Cream Sandwich are pretty good. Next one I will be testing out will be the Red Sonja!
Red sonja is the best. Completly stable and fast. Vibrate does not work. But other then that its its perfect.
I'm using Super Stock 2.3.6. It's a rather bare bones ROM that is close to stock but with a few tweaks and removals of stuff like bloatware and other things. Overall I'm satisfied. I'm using this until the AOSP is released and some of the other ROMs become a bit more stable.
I'm using Sky Ice Cream Sandwich, it's my daily driver. Whichever rom you install, make sure you follow the dev's instructions. Only install roms for skyrocket, very important.
Most Roms in the Dev section are Stable-ish.
Red Sonja is probably the MOST stable in my OP.....less vibration, you dont have to do any work arounds, no extra flashing less the 4 intitial flashes( really 2 flashes if you dont want the comic pages)
but after that, everything is working as it would be on stock.
Thank You
First of all again thanks to everyone that gave me advise. I know have my first custom rom on my phone with the addons that looked interesting. Also a custom kernel.
I only have one question if i decide to try another rom, is there a way to go back to the way i have my phone now with out doing each step again. Like if i use the backup feature in CWM, If i do a restore will that put it back the way it is now.
Thank you ALL !!!!!

That's the point of doing the Nandroid backup. It'll restore your phone to how it was. At least that's what it's supposed to do. I honestly can't attest to it because I've never had to do it *knock on wood*

G2x Noob inquiry...

Hi all, so im new here and to the andriod scene. I've heard some talk about the cm7 mod/rom via maximumpc magazine. Is this a viable upgrade for our phones? Is there a better mod? Would someone care to explain and possibly walk me through an installation.. Thanks!

I'm using phoenix blood (with Faux's kernel) and it's awesome. It's based on CM7.
First root your phone
install custom recovery like ClockworkMod recovery. You can even download this from the market
Put the ROM zip on your sdcard.
boot into recovery (hold down power down and power until the blue screen comes up)
install zip from sdcard
choose rom zip
Cm7 or cyanogenmod 7 is a rom........ to install this from u need to root ur device and install clockwork recovery mod.....all what u need is available in the android development section......If u need any more help.....there are alot of people here who can help u.....

Yes, CyanogenMod 7 is working on g2x. Im currently running it right now. First of all, you need to follow this tutorial: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/install-clockworkmod-4-0-0-2-recovery-on-t-mobile-g2x-how-to/
This will allow you to flash a new ROM. Next, download cm7 from here: http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices/t-mobile-g2x
Finally, here's how to flash it: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/32478-cyanogenmod-7-for-the-lg-g2x-v7101-11-oct-2011/

Yes CM7 is very nice, but you will need to spend some time reading the dev forum and the stickies. All the info is there. Are you an experienced android rom user? Tried different roms etc. in the past? Is so this will be simple for you.
I run the Weapon rom, a better stock alternative. It just works, which important on a phone you use for business.
Not perfect, but gives a good visual ref as to the process. Still read up first.
cm7 is awesome
CM7 made my G2x almost perfect. It is awesome. Unfortunately for me I could never get my GPS to truly work. But CM7 FIXED 99% of my issues: crashes, reboots, bluetooth problems, etc. Do it! It's well worth it. Not to mention the custom lockscreen and notification menu are sweet!

New G2X seeking advice

I got this phone recently and I'm experiencing some minor bugs and was wondering if it's worth it loading a custom mod to it.
It's currently running GB 2.3.3 stock
I have no experience at all doing anything regarding custom roms or kernels or whatever. Before I do anything with my phone I want to know the ups and downs to it and if it's worth it
The bugs I currently have are random reboots but this has only happened twice in about 5 days of use wifi calling sometimes gets a little *****y but it works (for this I had to get a older sim card TM 9073)
Is there a stable rom around that most g2x users are using ?

I don't mind Gb or ICS though I believe Gb would be the most stable
I only want my phone to be the most stable as possible with all it's features staying with 2.3.3+ I do a lot of gaming and run game emulators on it

Well if there was someone experienced kind enough to help me out through this process I would appreciate it a lot since I have no experience at all regarding this.
I do wish to know if there is a way to revert my G2X to its factory settings on the 2.3.3 in case I mess up etc
so.. everywhere I read says do this do that flash this and that... I can;t find anything detailed enough for someone who doesn't know what nvflash is or what it does or how to use rom manager etc
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1060715
specifies 2.2.2 I have 2.3.3 where am I suposed to start just flash and if so how?
I'm a complete noob on the android platform I need more details than just use this and that.
sorry for the noobness but I just want to get the hang of this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUT5JcnJHgk
Links are in the YouTuber's description... after that search for those 2.3.3 threads and pick one!
follow the steps in this link... to flash the latest CM Rom...
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/LG_G2x:_Full_Update_Guide
But i would recommend using a different method to root,
since you said you have never done any of this before
there are noob friendly ways to root such as the following link...
follow the directions in this link to root..
then just continue on the original CM link and start after the root section..
root here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1039985
This phone is probaly one of the easiest phones to root and install cwm on, its 99.9% unbrickable and has tons of information in dev thread. Just take the time to read b4 you do anything, simple as that.

thanks to all , the links where helpful I got the cyanogen RC 7.2 working good so far only 1 issue when I want to install the telenav gps says its not available in my country I really need this thing working . Apart from that It's a lot easier than I thought now just need to figure the gps thing out.
What country are you trying TeleNav in? And does google maps not work for you?
I agree. I'd usually use Google Maps Navigation. Has helped me quite nicely.
I already got it fixed apparently it was a corrupted rom. re downloaded and re installed and everything working nicely atm testing Hellfire phoenix this thing is awesome

Just need to know if i can speed it up because its still pretty laggy. Read the nooby guide to flashing custom Rom just dont know where im at in the list of things to do.
Wish I came here first and didn't watch all that Youtube crap because you guys know what your doing.
Question is do I have gingerbread on my phone should I attempt to flash now and is Rom Toolbox ok to have it seemed to speed up my phone a little?
You're on froyo. Read this link...

That guide will tell you everything you need to go from froyo to gb
As far as rom toolbox that is a neat app but going to GB and using a rom will speed up your phone more.

You are on froyo and you are thonking of Rom manager which dont work with this device. I would recommend vahala final by Raver or SCOM by Erikmm both are great roms very smooth and free of lag. There are others but i would stick with one of them till you learn more. They are easy to install just READ and do lots of it. As far ad quadrent scores they are just benchmarks dont really mean much, before i rooted i would get a score of 900 now i get about 2500 and im running SCOM . If you're wanting to upgrade via Kies Mini, then yes; you will have to. There are ROMs, though, in the Development section that are stock if that's what you're wanting.
