I have an Inspire 4G/Desire HD and while this isn't my first android phone (Backflip and Aria) This is the first time I seriously considered rooting. I don't find battery life to be that much of an issue, but I want to root for the customization options i.e font changes and the such, however I don't know where to begin. Im confused about doing NANDroid backups and flashing roms and radios. sorry if a similiar topic has been posted already. And if I do root I'm looking for something with gingerbread for my phone.

For the HTC Inspire, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1018 and for the HTC Desire HD, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=765. Choose any rom you like. Have fun.
P.S. - You should have posted this in your device specific forum.
I wasn't sure if it belonged there because I was asking for general advice on rooting, but thank you for your help. Is there anyway for me to get this moved to the Inspire 4G forum

A moderator can move it. Maybe you could ask one but remember they are very busy. Udk is a moderator for this forum so he could move it.
Okay, thank you

Hello, I am a new HTC Sensation owner and it's my first Android phone too!
I am very excited with the device but, before I screw up something, I would like to know a bit more.
I know there is the possibility, for Android phones, to flash the ROM and install a new one with improved features.
It is something that I will do, I'm sure, but, as mentioned, I would like to be sure of what I do!
So, how can I back-up the current ROM, in order to restore everything as it was when I purchased the phone?
I know about an app called Titanium backup, but it seems that it requires root permission...
Can you help me?
Thank you in advance!

Htc sensation has a locked builder (S-On), you can't install custom roms yet till it is unlocked by HTC or hacked by developers. keep an eye out in the development section. When it is unlocked. Word will spread there,
Also there will be guides of how to root, s off back up etc. once it is unlocked
In the mean time. Have you tried rom manager from the market to backup. download it. Enjoy your sensation

Hi, before opening a thread do some research. If you did do some, you would have found an answer to your question in the Sensation Android development forum. There is a thread about someone who gotva Sensation with unlocked bootloader. Read in this thread as much as you can and please, on the top right of every single page of this forum is the SEARCH box. Use it extensively, you'll save yourself a lot of time.

Hi Guys,
I just bought an Inspire off of Craigslist. The guys said he had updated or OTAed the phone. I wanted to know which root method or guide should I use for root, s-off, and even sim-unlock, if possible?
Here's the info on it:
Android Version: 2.3.3
HTC Sense Version: 2.1
Build Number: 2.47.502.7 CL93396 release-keys
Software Number: 2.47.502.7
What is the best, easiest method to get this bad boy rooted ? Thanks for your help!
I used the Ace Hack Kit and was rooted in under 15 minutes. Just make sure to read and follow the directions.

There's only one, and this thread was totally unnecessary the root method is on the first page

Hack Kit Thread - this is the only option available to root the GB OTA update
Make sure you read the effen manual, a few times. attn1 has made the process almost idiot proof, but if you run into issues you can hop in their IRC from the link in the OP of that thread
Folks, thanks for your responses, I appreciate your help.
I am not new to Android, been a proud owner of the DInc, EVO 4G, HD2 w/ Android on NAND, EVO 3D, and now the Inspire 4G. In all of those other communities and rooting methods, apparently builds and versions of Android mattered, and appropriate tools remedied the appropriate versions, thus I asked.
So please, there is no need to be upset. I didn't ask HOW TO Root, I asked what solution to use, cause apparently in the stickies, I saw two.
Thanks for the warm welcome, please look forward to more questions and thanks for supporting the community!

Welcome and I hope you enjoy your stay. The Inspire is a great device, I'm sure you'll love it as much as we do.
FWIW, I too get sick of the snarky, self righteous responses ppl make to a question.

Hello I am new to android I have had my HTC Incredible S for about 2 months and I have been reading on here for a while off and on about rooting and flashing custom roms onto my phone the only thing is is that from what I have read multiple things like that my phone can get bricked and be useless and it is also difficult to root the incredible s as well, I am just asking for people to tell me how likely I am to brick my phone and hopefully maybe some people could talk to me about flashing custom roms onto my phone and possibly link me some websites or possibly a video to show how to do this to my phone.
I would start here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=980497
Also try searching here - http://www.google.com/cse?q=android...=ISO-8859-1#gsc.tab=0&gsc.q=incredible s root
But next time I would suggest going to the specific forum for that device and, after reading through the sticky/roll up threads, ask the question there.

Thanks for the reply I wasn't totally sure where to post this thread so I posted just tried the general forum I will look there and maybe post there if I don't find what I'm looking for

Hi everyone,
I'm fairly new to customizing my android phone. Have only had a Galaxy SII before, which I flashed to CyanogenMod.
Now I might be interested in flashing my new One S, particularly due to better battery life but also for enhanced possibilities.
I can of course read the guides on how to root & flash (although it seems a lot more complicated than on my Galaxy SII).
What I'm more worried about is, how do I flash back to stock, if that should be necessary later on? Is it very complicated?
Now, I actually like Sense 4.0, HTC keyboard and some other HTC things, so I would like to flash a ROM with Sense. I've looked through the forum and concluded, that either Noble or Trickdroid might be suitable for me. I know that it's not polite to shoot down the one or other ROM, but could some of you tell me the differences between the two? I can't really point them out myself.
Thank you very much!
Best regards
Casper

If you can read, you would know the differences between the 2 roms, and you would also know that THIS IS DEVELOPMENT SECTION, NOT Q&A !!
Wrong Section.
Sorry, how to move?

Harsh.
But yes, it is the wrong section. A mod will probably move this post soon enough.
That said, I just read them over. They look to be mostly the same. Stock with a few tweaks here and there. Noble looked the better of the two to me.
Both have some very vague language though
Fully optimized and tweaked
RAM optimizations
Speed optimizations
Excellent battery life!
Better CPU Performance

You can always just take a backup and flash each one and give them a day or two test run.
Moved To Q&A
Please post questions in the Q&A section

Do you know how to flash stock rom and un-root, if it'll be necessary?

You'll need to checkout the Atrix 4G Android Development section for finding all ROMs available for the device. Read through user reviews and select the best one of your choice. Also, when asking about which is the Best ROM, you'll get 10 different opinions from different people. So its all upto your needs to use the one of your choice.

I would move it for you, but there's a good chance it would get closed in that forum too. Best ROM threads/questions are generally frowned upon around here due to the type of responses (mostly negative) and bickering they tend to generate. Try them out for yourself and see what works for you.
