[Q] MicroSD Slot malfunction? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a 16Gb Transformer (without Keyboard dock) from Hong Kong since two weeks.
The first week I never tried a MicroSD card, but I found my MicroSD slot to be working very badly...let me explain:
When I insert the MicroSD (Kingston 8Gb Class4), i sometimes (not always) see the notification pop-up that a external storage is being connected. In the case that the pop-up appears I can click on it and that will open the File Manager for me. However, I am unable to create/delete/edit or open any files.
In those cases I have found that I need to push the MicroSD just a little deeper (actually as far as the spring mechanism goes) before I can really work with the MicroSD.
Looks to me as a faulty MicroSD slot...any thoughts?

The 16 GB Micro SD on the X7510...does it work ???
If yes, any comment as to speed especially on watching videos and playing music. I have my X7510 setup that all my necessary files and programs were installed in my Flash Disk, so the only thing that is going in the Micro SD card is music and videos.
It is also cheap now... at Amazon it only cost 63 USD.

I have had some troubles with Sandisk 16 micro SDHC (via a converter to mini, of course), purchased about a month ago. After two weeks of joy it just decided to disappear all files on it. Yesterday I have got a replacement, will see what happens.
The user manual say SD card, not going into details, so SDHC may be a problem, although SDHC for X7510 is mentioned most everywhere else.
If you got some hard facts, pls. let me know too, and vice versa.
Cheers.

Thanks for the update. I will be purchasing one soon.
Do you use WM5torage? Because on my X7510, that software does not work properly. Does not matter what version I use. It might be the culprit on yours.

Nope, I use either the regular ActiveSynch or connect using that second option
(settings/connections/USB to PC/ Disk Drive). I am quite unhappy with both, in fact - the first is too slow and fails unpredictably when large volume are copied, the second shows only the Flash Disk and tends to mess up the HTC when you disconnect.
So I have decided today to try out the nueMassStorage:

Anything to be aware of re the SDHC card?

Let us know how the nueMassStorage application works on your X7510.
From my experience with my SDHC card, NEVER format it using your computer. Use a compatible card reader or if ever you get WM5torage to work properly, use that with the micro SDHC card in the X7510.
There is another option, SOFTICK CARD EXPORT: http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2/
It's not free though.
Hi all,
I use my X7510 since a few weeks with a 16GB MicroSD with MiniSD adaptor.
I use it everyday with iGO 8 navigator installed from the SD card and I have no problems.
I'm waiting feedbacks about nueMassStorage also to see if we can have direct access to SD card from the PC.

Thanks for the tips. Re SOFTICK CARD EXPORT: I have used it with my now defunct TREO 650, and it is not very speedy. So I shall skip it for now.
About the formatting of the card: in any case when I have tried to format it (straight from the shop) on X7510, formatting was prevented for some mysterious reason, so I can't do it in any case.
nueMassStorage is a cool one. It created a second "USB to PC" icon, identical to the original one, in the Settings/Connections (well, I wish it were a bit different, but it's not a big deal).
It connects only to the storage card, which was a surprise, otherwise it works perfectly well and when disconnected doesn't cause any hiccups on HTC side.
Another small issue - there was supposed to be a popup that is triggered when you connect the synch cable, but it doesn't work so far.
So for small files I can use the regular synch, and for big ones - nueMassStorage. It means that if I need to load a big file to the flash disk, I'll have to copy it first to the storage card and then move it to the final destination. Not very convenient, but better than nothing.

It connects only to the Flash Disk for me, although the first time I ran it, it connected to my 16 GB Storage Card; after that, it always shows the flash disk.
You can find the Pop Up if you look in the Windows folder and look for nueStoragePopUp.exe file. You can create a shortcut under Windows/Start Menu/Programs/"to whatever folder you want".
After that you can ran the shortcut and a Pop Up Notification will appear with 3 options.
UPDATE: The Sandisk 16 GB Micro SDHC on a Mini Sandisk Adaptor works great. I love it.
Thanks for the tip - created a pop-up in the Resco Today Plugin, it works as prescribed. Still shows only the storage card, though.
I guess it is decided on the dice throw ;-)
Happy New Year!

microsd remount problem due to sd adapter

hi sd experts.
i am trying to use an sd to microsd adapter mainly to connect my digital camera (sd card) on the road to my samsung galaxy i9000 (microsd slot). the adapter is built into a slightly bigger case of a 3000mAh battery.
problem here: the phone doesnt notice a card change in the sd slot. remounting is somehow "hardwired" to physically inserting/removing something from microsd, which does obviously not happen in my case.
manually unmounting/remounting the card from settings menu also doesnt work when changing sd cards in the adapter. android probably keeps thinking that you re-inserted the same card when nothing is physically pulled from microsd-slot. so if you remove an sd and insert another and try to mount from settings menu, it will either fail or mess up the file system.
what can i do to make this work? any unix commands to call to properly trigger a remount, just as when something is physically removed and inserted from microsd slot?
thanks,
joe.
somebody suggested to switch the microsd driver from handling card changes via interrupt to polling mode. anybody tried that? on my galaxy i believe it's in /sys/bus/platform/drivers/s3c-sdhci/
then there's a s3c-sdhci.0, a .1 and a .2 directory. which one would be the external microsd slot? and would adding a file "polling" with the contents "1" work for switching? does the android sd driver support polling at all?
so many questions but no answers... i guess nobody ever tried something like this on their phones

[Q] SD Card Reader bug

Hello all,
I have a strange behavior :
32 gigs SD card unlocked
I can read write on PC but when I insert it into the SD slot of the Transformer's dock the property is switched to Read only.
If I take the same SD card and put in into a dongle and plug it into the USB slot : the property is now Read & Write...
Any hint please ?
Fand'
Anybody at least has faced this trouble ?
What program are you using to access the SD card in android? Where does it tell you that it is read-only/read-write.
I know in root explorer there is a toggle for read-write/read-only.
Can't say I have the same problem as you, but I have my own SD card problem with the dock.

I haven't faced this trouble with an SD card, but I have tried to plug in a 8GB USB Thumb Drive to the USB port on the dock and the TF won't even recognize it. So there may be some bug there that might be fixed with HC 3.2 update
Also, I have used a 2GB SD Card in the SD Card slot on the TF dock and it worked fine for me. I have the dock with serial # B50KAS, running stock HC 3.1.
Hello,
I use ES File Explorer.
The same SD card inserted in the dock in the SD reader has a property : Read
If I use a USB dongle, insert the sd card and plug it into the dock, the property is then Read Write...
Tried with another SD card and it worked normally (but it was a 16Gb).
Soooooo weird.
I will wait for the next update to see if there is any issue solve on the SD reader... sounds like a little problem for managing high capacity SD card.

[Q] Mounting SD card

Hi,
I can use my 16GB micro SD in the pad itself, but if I try to use a regular SD card it doesn't mount. Not even if I remove the micro SD. Is this a known issue, or is it just something with mine?
Cheers!
of what capacity is the regular sd card? I think (might be wrong) that the dock doesn't support certain capacities of cards. I have only ever used a microsd card in an adapter in the dock and that worked fine. Have you tried a reboot with the card in? can you see it in the file manager at all? I found that, when I can't mount a card, that switching file managers will work about 95% of the time.
I hope that helped a little bit

memory card is not working.

Guys, what to do? two days ago the phone started to blunt: the files on a flash drive (for 32GB) does not write, read only, and now stopped and read. another USB flash drive (2GB, was included) have tried but does not work either. USB flash drive (for 32GB) tried to stick in a computer, but does not see. no external card reader, or built-in, any netbook.
The most interesting thing that when a USB flash drive (2GB) disables writes "No Card SD" in the status bar.
That is the stick sees, but all the same on the external memory card (in settings) 0 bytes. vaypat and sew on a new try.
P.S. assume that stick to 32GB burned, but why not work on 2GB? (opens fine on a computer)
Thanks in advance.

Assuming your 32GB card is broken, you should try swap sd. . if you specify what ROM you are using it would be helpful to figure out the problem.
