Has anyone had any luck with 3.1 and USB. I have a USB female to female, 3.0 did not give me any success with any of my USB memory devices/ camera. I have now tried with 3.1,and see no change. Should we now be seeing some success?
There is no power in the cable so female to female will work only with devices that have their own power. You need to wait for an adapter (or buy the dock).

Yeah i tried with a powered hub. Some people had reported success with 3.0 with USB devices such as memory sticks, so how is that working?

Does anyone know if I purchased one of these can the Transformer then read memory cards or use other USB peripherals?
no one has tried yet, try it for us and find out!
I would if I had the tablet. If it does it would be a major plus.
Well we know for a fact that the 40 pin connector that is used to hook up the tablet to PC and charger through USB allows for USB host, we just don't know if it would be so simple that all we have to do is use a female to female converter.
I would think that it would work, because that's how you transfer files to the tablet. Not sure about peripherals though. If this does work it would easily make this better then any tablet.
if I can get myself to put down the money and if someone posts a link I'll try it.

I meant usb female to USB female since I don't have anything with microUSB just wanna test host.
Just bought http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BSN4UY female to female adapter, I'll test USB host I guess
The tablet only has a micro, so I guess I don't understand why you would buy that item.

The tablet doesn't have a micro port, it has a proprietary 40 pin to USB male cable with a proprietary 40 pin socket. So you need atleast reg female to reg female to get host at the minimum.
Never mind just figured it out. You are going to use the micro usb cable that can with the tablet and hook up the female to female. Sorry.
I thought the tablet did have a micro usb host?
only ports are the proprietary connector used for hooking it up to the PC/charger/dock and mini HDMI out. But the proprietary connector supports USB host.
Hello,
So I tried to hook up a Motorola Atrix 2 to a PNY USB Hub and it won't work, but the light showed up on it .
Here are all the stuff I used to make a full setup:
Female to Female USB
Y-Cable
Micro-USB Cable
USB Hub
Wall charger
I tried both ends of the Males and both not working
Any help would be highly appriciated
Thanks in advanced,

Pics would be helpful. I assume you want to utilise USB OTG which requires a USB OTG cable, and an external VDD of +5V as the phone does not supply power via USB.
Hello, we all know that there are USB OTG Cables with extra power plug (Y cable) but those are supposed to power external device like HDD, DVD, or anything what consumes more power than our android device can handle.
But my question is: is there any USB OTG cable with additional power plug but for simultaneous tablet / phone charging while USB stick is used?
I want to watch something long (i.e. TV Show series) from USB stick via OTG cable but I cannot simultaneously charge my tablet, so if it take too long my tablet will be out of power before I stop watching.

That means I have to add a resistor only to usb connector or just need a different kernel, or both?
On the native firmware say that this support function is disabled. Personally, I use this CivZ-FLEX-ЛУЧ-REV3.6.2 + SphereXtreme, where works flawlessly with OTG + charging resistor 64.9 K.
I call BS!!!!
I have a stock firmware, and have been using all kinds of USB cables. Found the best are made from Sony/Ericson and Blackberry. Once you have a quality cable your charging issues will go away.
Right now I am using a 7 foot cable that is from a Sony. No charging issues and works perfectly.
Lately I found another MHL cable 2hich is called HDMI to Micro HDMI, and that micro HDMI plug looks exactly like micro USB. Will such cable work with Note 8 properly without additional power?
The version of MHL our device supports requires a power source external to the tablet. That means the adapter itself needs to provide the power (battery or power adapter) or can pull enough off the HDMI cable, which is usually not enough juice to run the connection.
MicroHDMI and MicroUSB are also not physically compatible (won't fit the same port and different pin outs) even if they look so much a like. MHL typically uses MicroUSB at one end and full sized HDMI at the other.

This is correct u need to put a 63-65 k resistor between ground and Id pin(pin 4 &5) on USB connector. Doesn't work on civatos 4.4.2 as of now. USB host works fine with regular USB host cable but no charging when u use a y cable. I use civatos 4.2.2 kernel also. Works on yyks note 2 4.3 port also..
I have test multiple times. I use a USB dac in car and need charging and USB host.
what resistor should i use on my sghi257m samsung galaxy s4 mini otg usb cable?
on my dads galaxy s5 Active it shows message that says: Do you wanna enable power sharing
is that OTG? on my S4mini nothing pops up
I know this thread is really old but i want to use a USB DAC so need at cable with a resistor as mentioned above but What ROM should I use now?? also is there anywhere I can buy a cable with resistor in it or do i have to do it myself?
Hi,
I want to connect my NotePro to an external hard drive while charging it.
Do anyone knows how to do that?

Unfortunately, this product actually does not allow the OP's device to simultaneously charge and act as the USB host device. The DECEC product has a switch for toggling between its two functions:
1. OTG Host Mode:Allows the OP's device to connect to USB peripheral (slave) devices and power them. This mode will also charge peripheral devices.2. Data Cable (Charge) Mode:Allows the OP's device to charge via an external power supply or via another USB host device (i.e., laptop).
Read the Q&A for this device on Amazon (go to Amazon and search for "Micro USB Male To USB Female Host OTG Cable + USB Power Cable Y Splitter"). The Q&A indicates that users have been able to use it for simultaneously charging a Nexus 7 and having the Nexus 7 act as a USB host device. One user mentioned that a custom kernel is needed to unlock this capability of the Nexus 7. They also recommended that a powered USB hub be used to ensure that the USB peripheral devices don't draw more power than the Nexus 7 can supply.

This adapter LIMITS THE CURRENT TO 1000mA as opposed to 1800mA using the 2.1A Samsung charger for TAB S 10.5. Presumably this would be the same for the Note 5 which comes with the higher capacity charger as well..
Hi
I have a problem with my new S5.
For my S3 i created a USB OTG+Charge cable. For this cable type a 68k resistor is soldered between the sense and GND pins of the USB port.
this cable is not recognized by the S5. When I keep the resistor open the charger is recognized.
When I short the resistor the USB harddisk is recognized.
I tried a resistor E6 decade to test variuos values. When I use 100k the cable is recognized as "power sharing cable".
Is anybody here using a USB OTG + Charge cable?
Where is the cable detection definied? Can I change it?
Best regards,
any progress ?
For my new S5 I have ordered one CY U2-166 cable.
Sellers listings talking about compatibility up to S4, and read even one user feedback that this worked for him.
When my cable arrives (eBay) I will test it, and if it works with S5, then I will post actual measurements regarding cable construction.

You are welcome, but be aware that this cable comes with dual micro USB, plus one Female USB A for regular connectivity and powering external HDD.
Female USB A this is output.
Input power comes from your charger cable ( Mini USB connector).
Here are my experiences with OTG CY U2-166 cable.
1) My Galaxy S5 this is fully capable to deliver enough electrical power for USB stick, or even my external USB 2.0 HDD (WD 160GB)
2) External USB HDD this causing a minimum of 220mA of consumption up to 430mA at extreme activity.
3) When female micro USB this is also powered by external source (charging block), this become right away the main DC power source for the external HDD.
4) If incoming DC power from female micro USB this no more active? Then Galaxy S5 takes over right away by delivering power by it self.
In summary this additional female micro USB, this works in parallel with DC output of the phone.
Personally I am very happy from those results from a cable worth less than 2$.
But what caused me mixed feelings this is Android it self, this does not recognize several partitions over a single hard disk, even if them are formatted at 32GB/Fat 32.
