Keyboard with Arrows/Cursors? - General Questions and Answers

Does anybody know of a sense like keyboard that has arrows on same page as letters?

As I answered on your other thread - the SwiftKey Beta X has arrows on the bottom. You have to enable it in settings.
There's also an installable version of the HTC IME somewhere on the forums. Use the search function.
(from... Evo/MIUI/Tapatalk)

SmartKeyboard Pro has this, just enable it in General Settings>Show arrows.

Swiftkey X beta has them. It's on the market. You need to enable them in the settings.

Hackers keyboard.

[Q] HTC IME + Swype

Is there such a keyboard? A keyboard that when you swype it's swype but when you peck it's HTC IME? There's times I want HTC ime, but then I want Swype for a second or two... argg I'm getting sick of virtual keyboards!
Edit: Since a few people haven't understood me I'm going to add a disclaimer. I know that you can peck with the Swype keyboard. Pecking on Swype is horrible. It's obviously not what the application was written for. The HTC IME keyboard is very good at taking user imput while pecking. However the HTC IME keyboard can't Swype. My question was is there a keyboard with Swype and good pecking like from the HTC IME keyboard?
Yes... it's called Swype. Tap when you want to, swype when you want to.
Look for a HTC themed skin for swipe, problem solved.

It's not the look of Swype that I'm seeking. It's the functionality of the two keyboards combined that I want. The functionality of the HTC IME keyboard for pecking is very good. The pecking on the Swype keyboard is horrible. You guys don't understand what I meant.
I think that Ultra Keyboard is what you're looking for. It has the best of both worlds.

there is an app posting somewhere in the apps and games thread that you can pick a keyboard based on the orientation of the phone, for example landscape can be htc and portrait can be swype, this is the closest you're gonna get at this time if you wish to have those 2 keyboards

This. UltraKeyboard does both. I use a gesture to turn the tracing on/off.

Question about Nexus S keyboard

Hi,
When you press the SEARCH key, and typing in the text field ...
Does the keyboard give you text prediction?
And also when you search in the Market app ...
If not, is possible to enable text prediction on all input fields?
Thanks.
Negative on the text prediction for search. I get text prediction in the form of app suggestions on the market, but I don't know if that's quite what you're looking for.
As far as enabling it, I have no idea. I don't recall if any of my past Android devices did text prediction on search. :/
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Take a look at SwiftKey. Text prediction is one of the reasons that my wife and I moved to it. We like this keyboard much better than stock, for us it was well worth the money.
This is common for several fields in several different apps. I work for Swype, so I've seen this myself, but since our keyboard doesn't typically work this way it's only been a curiosity for me. I believe it is considered a "feature" since you might want to explicitly type something else other than what prediction guesses. If you want to give Swype a try, the beta is currently open at: http://beta.swype.com/
Hi there,
Thanks for your info. I still find it odd, to not have this common behavior on all input fields.
Heck, the old HTC_IME hack on HTC Desire works pretty well with all the options to have prediction in all kind of input fields (thanks to the modder, jonasl). I still have this on my signature below.
But recently, I like the new Nexus S keyboard. It look slick, easy to type. But yeah, I missed some of the HTC_IME improvements, like SMILEY button!
As for SWYPE, granted, it is a very nice keyboard. But, I don't use ENGLISH that much I am using south-east asian language which is not supported
So, I am afraid that it does not offer much advantage.

The built in Gingerbread keyboard does have a smiley button. It's a "smart" keyboard, it knows what you're doing and shows you the appropriate keys/features/functions.
Go write a txt message, and you'll see a smiley key on the bottom right.
They should've taken out the period and extended the space bar. Its very frustrating when I'm trying to type fast. IPhone still had the best touch keyboard available

Thanks, I did not know that.
Obviously because I am using Nexus S keyboard on my HTC Desire! Probably it does not work fully as designed (I did not see that smiley button).
But, does that smiley button also appear when you type in EMAIL or TEXT AREA like replying to forum like this using the web browser?
Or when typing comments on Facebook app! That would be very nice.

. that should cure it.

definitely puzzling. Did you download a new installer. Then the beta. If you downloaded english spanish beta. Try fill or vice versa
Swyped from my HTC Sensation Pyramid using my thumb and eyes
I tried both. i even uninstalled, cleared all swype data & tried that, no dice. charging phone now to do a hard reset & see if that works
Just did a hard reset & still getting this stupid bug.
For me to add a new word that doesn't exists, I first have to manually type it and select it on the word suggestion bard (because auto correct will try to suggest a "correct" word). After I select the word, the option to "add <word> to dictionary" will appear for me on the word suggestion bar and pressing it will add it to the dictionary (Somewhat like stock gingerbread keyboard).
yeah I do that & it says that it added the word, yet when I reswipe it it's not added. I can do this 10 times in a row & it still won't stick
So I'm apparently an idiot & my Swype does work. I was under the impression that when it said 'Add "xnifex" to the dictionary' it was notifying me that that's what it was doing. I wasn't aware that you had to tap that notification for it to work. On the HD2 if you manually type in a word it's automatically added to the dictionary so I thought it was the same behavior. Yay for the swype team helping me out.

Did you actually clicked on "add <word> to dictionary"? Unlike on Froyo, where Swype saves a word after hitting space, now the users have to confirm the action by clicking on the right above the keyboard.
I was so used to the old swype, it took me 2 days to realize that...

Yep, now I know this too. Had the admin brian over on the swype forums tell me about it. I'm used to the old swype as well.

Lol well done mate
Swyped from my HTC Sensation Pyramid using my thumb and eyes
I'd just like to add that I had this problem, I was tapping to add to dictionary and there were literally no words in the dictionary, it was basically a tap keyboard. I uninstalled with Titanium Backup, then installed the Full version instead of the English/Other language one. This one has a dictionary and will save new words to it.
Thanks guys, I learned something new today;-)
Swyped from HTC Pyramid, using XDA Premium App.
I just want to say that I had the exact same issue as the OP. I thought that it was automatically adding the words to the dictionary, but some bug prevented them from appearing or something. I just wasn't clicking the "Add "word" to dictionary".
To be fair, it's not very clear on the UI that it's something that you can or should press. It doesn't have a question mark at the end, which would make you realise that it's ASKING you something, not telling you something.
That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
Swype is the best. My only problem is the word bar above the keyboard. I find it distracting, and hard to get used to. I've looked everywhere trying to find a way to turn it off. Besides that, swype is 1,000x better than what comes with the sensation.

LISTEN EVERYONE..to solve the problem download a app called ''SMS to swype'' and it picks up every word you type from all the keyboards you used and saves them to the dictionary SOLVED

How to capture the HTC three finger swipe

It's great to see some ROM development picking up for the One S although I suspect this question would apply equally to the One X.
HTC have a 3-finger swipe gesture trap to launch the HD display accessory from any of the Sense Home screens. I'm not a dev but I would have thought that there must be a way to hook into that facility and change the swipe to an app/action of the users choice. And in that case, what about capturing other home screen based gestures (two fingers, left, right, up, down etc.)
I dropped Sense 2 and 3 on my Desire for Go Launcher. Sense 4 has brought me back but I do miss the very useful swipe up and swipe down gesture settings that Go Launcher offered.
Is anybody looking into this? Anything I can do to help?
Wrong section. Maybe the mods could move this instead of locking it this time?
If you see a thread in the wrong section, just report it!
Sorry, I was looking to help get such a feature incorporated into a ROM. Hence I thought "development". No laziness intended.
Mods, please move the thread appropriately and hopefully someone will answer.
I have one problem: What of answering his question? It can also be moved with an answered question. report it and say a answer or only report it.
Please answer here. If the mods choose to move the thread to another location, they will move the whole thread - replies included.

Good question. I was thinking something along the lines like that too. Maybe even if we could some kind of gesture to open voice control etc
Sent from my HTC One S using XDA
The three finger swipe is registered as a keypress, namely key 250 (by default allocated to the action HTC_SHARE). See system/usr/keylayout/cy8c-touchkey.kl for references.
