Its probably not working cause you are still on the downgraded rom/radio....You need to either flash a custom rom, or flash the stock rom that has the newest radio and OTA updates.
ok umm would u recommend I good rom?

Well my favorite so far is ClearDroid....stable and amazing battery life...
but no matter what you need to upgrade your radio....A good place to start would be this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058042
Its a purely stock rooted rom with all the updates, I would suggest downloading the one that allows side loading...if you want to be able to use the amazon store.
Then at that point you would have the newest radio...so you could flash a custom rom later on.
EDIT: Just a reminder...if you flash the rom in the link above...it has to be done using hboot...not using rom manager or recovery.
Download the zip, rename it PD98IMG.zip (has to be named exactly that), place it on the root of your SD card, unplug from your computer, turn off fast boot, turn off phone, boot into hboot (by holding down power and volume minus until the hboot screen loads) dont press anything, it will find the zip on the 3rd attempt and ask if you want to update....
after i do that how would i go about other ROMs can i just download and load on my phone or will i have to delete the cleardroid. Also what other ROMS would you recommend. i was reading about gingerbeast
Mine worked fine with rooted stock. Just go to market and download flash player from there. May not work on opera but it did for me on the sense built in browser.

There are lots of other great roms out there....each have something different to offer then the next, you just have to keep trying out new ones....and read the stickies in both the general section and the dev section....they explain how to flash roms using rom manger and recovery. You can always, clear data and cache and flash another rom....The link I posted above isn't cleardroid...its just the updated stock rom.

Sorry if this should be in a different thread. Not trying to get flamed. So I am coming from a captivate and am just wondering how is flashing stuff on the inspire different from the captivate? Typically most of my flashing was just done thru CWM on the captivate itself or thru ODIN. I know ODIN doesnt exist for the inspire, but what differences can I expect coming into? how do I get to recovery or download? Any answers on how the flashing experience is different would be much appreciated
Once you've rooted it's pretty much the same as captivate install rom manager and install Rom with cwm recovery. There isn't a need to flash back to stock. Just clear data and cache.

yup, clockwork mod makes life a hell of a lot easier.
And this restore a heck of a lot better than the captivate did. I don't even use titanium backup anymore. All my txt messages and apps automatically restores including wallpaper

Thanks guys, my only question is how to get CWM on this phone after root. Im assuming its thru a kernel?
same way you do it on the captivate get rom manager from the market. Install CWM Recovery.
There's no need for special recoveries like on the captivate as there's no lagfix craziness to deal with. HTC uses Android/Linux standard file systems

Totally agree, ill never get samsung again. I would probably flash a different rom on my captivate every other day to find out which one had what bugs and what didnt work correctly, lol. The Inspire is a lot harder to root then the captivate, but is well worth it when you do, for one roms are higher quality and all 100% working, even cm7 rc1. There is no download mode for inspire, you can manually boot into bootloader mode and from there you can enter CWM Recovery.
So i looked at the HTC hack kit, are there any better instructions for rooting? just didnt see anything laid out in that thread.
Another question for yall: On the captivate when wifi was active the 3g symbol would disappear. This doesnt happen on my inspire. Does that mean hspa is still running while im connected to wifi? Battery drain is my issue with this
there's a readme in the hack kit. Very easy to follow
There is youtube two part video walkthrough, thats what i used. I learn easier if i can see it happening.

On the vibrant (captivate) a bad kernel or Rom could mean boot loop and no hope of getting into clockwork and we would have to use odin. This doesn't happen on the inspire?
Sent from my Inspire '4g'.
ive had boot loop happen twice so far and both times i manually went into boot loader and went to CWM recovery and wiped data and reflashed then everything was fine. The one time i reflashed and still got boot loop i just restored back up and then flashed and was good to go. I made a backup right after i rooted so i wouldnt have to do it again, i suggest you do the same just to be safe.

lol dont mind the hijacking. the more questions asked the better.
the market auto restores your apps when you sign in with your google account, i cant really explain how it does this, but it sure is nice.
when you check back up my settings when you sign into google for teh first time, it starts keeping a list of market apps you've installed and restores them if you do a factory reset. doesn't seem to catch all of mine all the time though.
still have some questions regarding Flash
I read the rooting thread as well as saw the video, what I could understand is that in captivate we were rooting and then upgrading the ROM.
But here we are rooting and the downgrading.. Are we loosing any functionality? Its little difficult to understand..
can someone pls help?
You are actually downgrading the ROM then rooting THAT. After you have root, and have clockwork mod recovery installed you can install any rooted rom you like. There are a few to choose from in the Dev section.
The current Android release on the Inspire hasn't been "cracked" yet so you need to downgrade to get root.
Hi Guys,
Apologies if the following seems easy but I'm new to the rooting scene. Had an iPhone for a while and jailbroke on several occasions but never rooted an android before.
I have a desire S which I would like to root. Here's my plan of action.
1)S-off using alpharevx
2)Download and run ginger break to get root
3)download and install the free application rom manager from android market to flash CWM
5) Use rom manager to perform first full (Nandroid) backup
6) Wipe as per instructions for LBC Mod
7) Flash with LBC Mod
I attained that information on another thread. Here's my questions/concerns:
1. What is CWM? What does it do? Is it the same as ext4?
2. What is the Nandroid backup for? Where does it backup to?
3. Is the LBC Mod any good? Any other recommendations?
4. Will my SD card be wiped during this?
5. Is any of this flashing my radio? What does it mean to flash the radio? Do I need to do it?
6. Any way to backup apps during this? all my contacts and calendars are synced with google so not concerned about those.
I appreciate any and all help If I'm feeling confident enough I'm going to give this a go when I get home from work.

3.LBC Mod is very good

6.titanium backup to backup all your apps
I am newbie too...
In all honesty you could have used google for a great deal of this, especially CWM and Nandroid backup!
1) CWM (clock work mod) is a recovery program that permits you to perform advance functions (ie backups, restores, formats and flash roms etc) on your device that you wouldnt be able to do with Android alone. Ext4 is an improved version of CWM built from the same code base, which is easier to use and offers more functionality.
2) A nandroid backup is simply a full backup of your device. that you can restore at a later time, including everything except the SD card.
3) I like LBC MOD that’s why I use it.
4) No sd will not be wiped, but everything elseon the device will.
5) None of these steps flashes your radio. The radio is the software on your device that controls your phones interaction with the mobile network and wi-fi. You should only upgrade your radio if its advised in the ROM installation instructions or your experiencing problems. Flashing a radio is in theory more dangerous than flashing a rom.
6) You can backup apps, by using an application like Titanium Backup but its not advised when moving from one ROM to another completely differing one, like you are from stock to LBC.
Good luck

so much for feeling confident
I have attained S-OFF no problems but cant get gingerbreak to work.
Have tried a couple of times. Once it just hung at "rooting" for a long long time so i cancelled it.
Then I thought it was successful as the phone rebooted but ROM Manager is telling me there is no superuser available. What could I be doing wrong?
EDIT: formatted the SD card and tried gingerbreak again.. Success!! Now for some ROM fun......

Did you actually use an app to test if you have root?
Because it's normal that gingerbreak gives you an error and tells you to reboot.
Do you have superuser after trying?

Also when I tried to use RomManager it wouldn't work with EXT4, I had to flash CWM instead.
Im rooted now and running LBC custom ROM but I cant download anything from the marketplace - I get a download was unsuccessful errors.
Anyone know how to fix this? Ive tried fixing permissions, signing into goggle talk, stopping the market process but nothing is working.

Follow the steps in: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
It'll give you S-OFF and ClockworkMod (CWM).
You can access CWM by switching off and pulling the battery, then hold volume down and power on.
Then through CWM you the just install the CM7 (or any other ROM) zip file from the SDcard (assuming you've already copied it over).
I have not copied it over but i will do so. Thank you very much. Any other tips would be great but it sounds easy enough.

pullin the battery isnt necesairy, if you go to menu, energy, and thik off the quik boot. you dont have to pull the battery (the less you open the device the better) just shut down the device, then hold volume down and power on.
install the htc drivers (on the revolution site) before installing, connect your device so it can fully install the drivers for fastboot usb an such.
then begin the install proces.

Cool thanks bro. Im s-off about to install recovery
Well i got to tho point where i installed cm7 from sd card and when it boots i get the blue android guy and the loading circle but then it just turns off. Gonna try some things
make sure you do a data/factory reset on recovery then flash desired rom, for CM specifically you need google apps to flash too
so flash CM7, after its done flash GAPPS
then reboot
I didnt have to flash gapps. But i did another wipe and reinstall and it worked. Seems to be good so far. What does gapps do?
it basically gives you google talk and the android market, but if it already came with that then no need to worry bout it, someone probably included Gapps in the CM7 build

Afternoon iLiberate,
What carrier are you with?
~PsyCl0ne
EDIT: Actually you know what come over to [RoM] ~[4.0.3.]~TEAM PERFECTION~REVAMPING
Now a couple of things before you start.
I am using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472954 for my recovery. I have had issues with a newer version but this one has helped me through a ton of issues I have had.
(Flash this with ODIN first)
I also recommend getting a wiping script DARKSIDE Super wipe. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487706
(Give props to the guy that put this script together. Keep the zip file some where easy to access, you will be moving it to your phones external SD card along with the rom zip and kernel files.)
When you go into the TeamPerfection thread it is gonna be kind of confusing looking at all the links. Basically you will see 3 Themes (AOSP ICE, KOBALT, Phone Candy) then a link to a rom that is already themed, and finally the stock rom which you will need if you want to flash any of the three themes I listed earlier. For now I would just go for the Sense release we can always change what it looks like later.
Also you will need a kernel.
If you're with AT&T I would suggest getting Mohan's kernel. If you're with a Canadian carrier I would suggest Romracer's kernel.
From here you can basically follow the guide in post number 3. It is really simple just need a little patience and it will go through. Also if you have any titanium backups from Gingerbread, please don't restore those apps when your phone comes back up. Just scribble down a list of apps you currently are running, make backups of SMS/MMS if you wish and then manually download them one by one from the market. Then you can make a Tibu of the apps so if you want to change what your phone looks like you can just restore all the apps in one go.
If you need any more help please feel free to PM me, I honestly don't mind or even post back here. Gonna be doing some work around the house but I'll check back periodically.

Hello guys,
I have posted about this issue before maybe six or more months ago, but it was not sorted out. So basically my problem is that I am running LeeDroid 3.3.3 on my phone. I have been using this ROM since the first time I rooted my phone. The problem is that I want to change this ROM, but my phone will not run any other ROM at. Any ROM that I install my phone hangs on the white HTC logo screen and does not go anywhere from there. I have had a few instances where my phone would load up a new ROM that I try to use, but it would eventually freeze and when I would restart the phone, it would never get past the white HTC screen. My phone does seem to load up Cyanogen Mod successfully most of the time, but I do not like that ROM. I have tried to re-root my phone, use a different SD card, format my SD card and used both CWR and 4ext recovery to try to install different ROMs. Nothing but the original stock ROM, LeeDroid 3.3.3 and Cyanogen Mod load up and I hope that someone might have dealt with a similar issue over this time that has passed. Thanks for reading and hope you can help!

Make sure that your phone does not have a hardware issue. There's no reason for a custom rom to work and other not if you are S-OFF. Make sure that the roms are for your phone and not for a different device, that might explain that.

Yes, my phone is S-OFF as it says in bootloader and every ROM I try comes from the Inspire 4G Developer section in this forum. I am left to believe that this really is a hardware issue, but how can my phone be the only one? I have never heard anyone else have a similar issue. And it is also weird that LeeDroid 3.3.3 works no problem.

Some roms seem to take control of phone. I had and issue with a custom rom don't recall which one is was but it would not let flash any other rom I had to use the rooted att pd98 zip to back to rooted stock then installed a custom rom with no issues after that. Never used that rom again. Might be the issue your having.

Well I unrooted my phone using the ACE hack kit a few times and then rooted it again and tried to put on a different ROM each time but my phone still does not load the ROM. My phone loads up the backup LeeDroid no problem though. So I was wondering if something from LeeDroid changed my phone that it does not accept any other custom ROMs. I wonder also if I unrooted the phone with a new pd98 zip from a phone that didnt have LeeDroid on would possibly help?

No you need the rooted att pd98 zip. You are already rooted no need to mess with the ace hack kit. Power up with volume down and power button into hboot you should see s-off meaning its rooted just reboot and download zip then just place in root of SD card power off then power up to hboot with volume down and power button it will recognize zip volume up for yes to install let it do its thing then your back to rooted stock att gingerbread rom and radio. Then install whichever custom rom you want just follow their installation instructions on their page.

Do not rename it just place it in root of sd card
Do not use this if you are still s-on

You can't download from fileserve anymore unless you are the one who uploaded the file.

Sadly, the link you gave me will not allow me to download the pd98 zip. By any chance do you know where else I could get it?
Get the rooted 2.3.3 PD98IMG here in the 4th post.
