The ice cream sandwich will be launched first on nexus prime, we all know that. I want to know how long will it take before nexus s sees an ota update for ice cream sandwich too?
I remember it took quite a while for Nexus One owners to officially get Gingerbread. It was months, wasn't it? I may be mistaken.
I hope Ice Cream comes sooner for NS owners.

The reason for the massive delay was the immense number of bugs in GB upon its initial release (since it was pushed out before it was really ready).

We've already supposedly seem ICS leaks for the Nexus S already so I assume it isn't that far off. That's only if those leaks were legit though.
And seeing as the Nexus Prime will be truly different than the Nexus S, I'd assume the NS was used to test ICS against traditional form devices (phones with front buttons). When GB went to the Nexus One, I'd assume it had very little progress to begin with as the NS was practically the same phone meaning that they didn't need to test it on the Nexus One.

we did see gingerbread on the Nexus One well ahead of the actual launch [remember the lock screen animation leak? :http://phandroid.com/2010/10/21/gingerbreads-screen-off-animation-exclusive-video/]
so, even though we've seen a (supposedly) leaked version of ICS running on NS, it might still be a while before we get it on our pretty NexS-es
i'm in no hurry though ...
I remember reading somewhere that Nexus S will be the first phone to get ICS and Nexus Prime will be the first to be shipped with ICS.
I hope ICS will be released on the Nexus S when it's ready. I don't wanna see a disaster of an update like Gingerbread 2.3.6
I'm not impressed with Google at all when it comes to updates. They cause more harm than good!

i think it can be true
No way ICS will be released when they launch the Prime. It will be an exclusive on the Prime model for weeks, if not a month or so. This will force geeks who just can't wait to buy the Prime rather than settling and updating their NS.
It's all speculation at this point, but if I were to guess I'd say the NS will get it 1-2 months after release. That's all it is, though; a guess.
Prime will have it exclusively for a good few months if the past is any indicator of things to come
From what i understand, ICS is supposed to address to current fragmentation issues with Android, and hopfully unify all phones/tablets with one version.
Under this logic, it makes sense that they would push it out ASAP

On release, I think one way or another it will be out sooner than later. Either it will be released rapidly or someone will rip it off the prime, realize it works already on the S and then put it up here rooted and with superuser..... YAY XDA!
A better q is how long after prime release does ics go to the aosp
So cm can port it to us
How long usually for new android versions to be open sourced

just wondering when its gonna be out, I've been hearing tones of different things that there are betas and leaked versions then i hear that its not out yet and won't be for a while and a bunch of stuff
just trying to get my mind set straight
It'll come out when it comes out. They're pushing for a Q1 release, but, nearing the end, there hasn't been much chatter about it. There are leaked builds already for it, but they don't have key functionality that's needed on a phone, such as the, uh, phone feature not working (I believe). In addition, there have been leaked screenshots as well that show that the ICS build for Skyrocket uses a modified version of Touchwiz.
Until then, if you're looking for something more...blue...the SkyIceCreamSandwich mod is a pretty good bet.
If not, well, we're all playing the waiting game.
Well it looks like maybe march or April, but then not confirmed. it's almost February and still no phones in the US have official ICS besides the Galaxy Nexus. The carrier is mainly in charge for releasing updates. I'd rather they release a non buggy, smooth as butter ICS update instead of rushing and releasing a buggy crappy dog puke software. Be patient.

So apparently HTC has updated their list of devices receiving ICS... 2 of which being the Thunderbolt and Incredible 2. Clearly HTC and Samsung are seperate companies, but seeing how both these devices were released well before the DC maybe Samsung will give us some official ICS love.
Thoughts?
Droid Charge SCH-I510
Eclipse
Imnuts pbj oc'd
v6supercharged
!vroom!
It's a thought, maybe I can come back to bed and dream some more on ICS for the Charge! hehe.
They haven't released RIL wouldn't hold my breath.
Would be nice of them but I don't see that happening for months. If at all. Sammy isn't that great for pushing updates IMO from past phones..
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
Points in favor of the Charge getting ICS:
It was a flagship phone, dropping support would tarnish Samsung's reputation
Contemporary phones seem to be getting ICS
The Charge has just been released for US Cellular as the Galaxy S Aviator, and 18 months of updates means it pretty much has to get ICS...
Points against the Charge getting ICS:
The Galaxy S isn't getting ICS, because Samsung says it doesn't have enough memory... and has the same amount of memory as the Charge.
Honestly, I have no idea what to expect at this point...
For now I would treat ICS on Droid Charge as....a miracle! rare to happen...but possible.
We'll have a better shot of a dev porting it before Samsung.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
Samsung, updating Droid Charge would be like putting it on the Fascinate...same phone Charge just has LTE
Dee Ex Two - See Em Seven
Samsung has said that the original galaxy s phones aren't getting ics because they don't have enough ram after samsung puts tw on it. I will assume the galaxy s 1.5 phones aren't getting it either because they have just as much ram.
Sent from my pocket-sized, Linux-based computer using electromagnetic radiation... and Tapatalk.
It's been.pretty much said by Samsung that the Galaxy S line(including variations) won't get ICS since they want to include TW with it. That would, I assume, require more memory. Our only hope would be 100% stock ICS ported over.
But damn, if the Nexus S had LTE, that probably would have helped a bit.

Yea my thing is .... Samsung would look hella bad if they didn't and HTC did update phones released prior to DC .Aside from that Sense is a lot more of a memory hog than tw... the thunderbolt ONLY has 25% more ram.. then again it has 25 % more ram so who knows
RE- ril; the fact that Samsung doesn't seem to want to release the code doesn't mean they wont release ICS... ril doesn't need to be public for them to release an official build... or am I mistaken?
Droid Charge SCH-I510
Eclipse

You are not. The RIL is just a necessity for a community build of it, which would likely come out much sooner than an official one if we could get ahold of it
The problem isn't the amount of RAM, it is the amount of space allocated for /system on the device. If they would include TouchWiz, it likely would not have enough space left for everything. However, the fact that I have heard there are internal builds of ICS for the Charge is promising. Also, the fact that the Thunderbolt is getting ICS helps our case as well.
Being that the charge and epic are so similar besides the keyboard, you guys should get with our devs and see if you can port over our cm9.

I have two friends with a charge. I rooted a flashed eclipse on one of them. Just haven't seen anything cm, or miui related in your forums. Just curious why no support in those areas. Unless its on other sites and I missed it. Would love to give them some ics cm9 if its functional enough to use as a daily.

You knew this question was going to come. Now that 4.1 has been announced, when are we getting ours?
This will take a longer time for sure, as HTC is still busy to release ICS
Jellybean dev kits are supposed to be released mid july. At least that's what this source says: http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2012/06/27/google-announces-android-41-jelly-bean/
But it may be a while before we get a working ROM.
Given the time it took the CM team to release CM9 RC1, I'd say 6 months!
what about this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736699
Brace yourself for a long wait
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
While ICS is quite nice, it is hard not to want the latest, greatest thing on our devices Still, at least the Nexus 7 is available to fulfil the JB goodness until it's available. That may end up replacing my Nook Color which hasn't been used in a month since it's ac adapter gave up the ghost.
HTC says they "don't yet have an announcement" for Jelly Bean on existing devices.
... I can't post a link because <10 posts, but there is an article on pocket-lint.com
That will only lead to an anemic SDK ROM. sure it will show us the cool new features, but I wouldn't expect much. I wonder how long it takes to hit AOSP

Actually most of the changes are internal. I think project butter is a big internal change. Although the One S is already very smooth, squeezing more performance out of the S4 is a welcomed thing

Google doesn't care
I remember reading recently that Google knows about fragmentation but isn't worried about it. Now that I'm tempted to buy a media device to have the latest and greatest software, I can see how fragmentation can actually work for Google because now more and more people will look to buy nexus devices.
the main reason i got a HTC phone is because unlike Samsung's strange choice in hardware it dosnt take 5 months to port a fast stable release from the MOD team unlike HTC
lets hope this takes off !
the one X got already a port

Developers need an ICS leak to make anything new, how many GB ROMs do you want? As far as the CM9 RIL has proved to be a huge problem. So no, developers still have Thunderbolts they just need something new to work with, instead of pointing fingers at them, point them at HTC.

While it's not the fault of the dev's, we have been forgotten. The thunderbolt is unfortunately old news and most likely won't have much more activity until we get ICS/JB.
Its more like HTC doesn't give a crap about our phones anymore. It's unacceptable that they haven't put out an update sooner.
I'm still here!
Most phones were forgotten (or stagnated) on Verizon when the Nexus came out. Anyone who didn't see that coming was just a tad short-sided.

Bionic already has 4 ICS leaks...and blame HTC. Anyway, the Incredible S (GSM Dinc 2) got ICS today. Here's the thing - the Thunderbolt was replaced by the Rezound a long time ago, and it's honestly not that great of a phone anyway. It was the first LTE phone, but the specs were far behind other phones that came out before it. It will be nice when it finally does get ICS (and it will, but remember the 2.3.4 update took a very long time as well), but most people (like me) who bought this phone will have already moved on, or be well on their way to a better phone by the time it finally is released. As far as being forgotten by developers - not forgotten, but they have moved on to better phones. The Thunderbolt is old hat - 1Ghz Snapdragon w/ 768MB RAM, the developers have moved on to better things, for the most part.

That and point really at Google for.this messed up veal they allow which is so stupid. We need to stop overlays on android and have the same user experence as any other device a unified way. On touch six.you select wick widget it brings up any available wick if one is not already selected on sense and stock that does not happen. Not a great user way here.
