this is so frustrating! I used to have no trouble sending mms with an unlocked Nokia phone & no data plan! I didn't even have internet! can anyone enlighten me as to why this is so difficult for a rooted android phone, please.

this is the development section. did you develop something? no. mods please move to general or q+a.
you need the q&a section: go away!
Moved to proper forum.
With a data phone not having internet means not sending mms either. Even though it bills as sms/mms, it uses data to send and receive. So bottom line, if you're having mms issues, you're probably having an APN issue.
Oh, and Q&A is where this would belong. (See because this post would be the Q and this reply would be the A, its not a topic on anything you are developing, and therefore wouldn't be in development).
ok, I probably deserve to get kicked out, but no one could help me in the other forums, thanks for your insight

I have been seeing Questions starting as Topics in the dev section. I think it would help if we had are own Q&A section added to the forum for the A2. It would definitely make the dev section look a lot better and I think it will help people out in general. How do we go about getting one added or who do we contact? I well help get one added in any way that i can if someone could point me in the right direction.

If I'm not mistaken it takes so many posts or topics to get a Q&A sections added
Questions should never be in the dev section.... people are posting them in there incorrectly. We really need to report them as we see them, to our Mod and have them moved in this section.

Exactly my point. That's why i was trying to get a q&a started. For me its annoying to log into xda and i go to the dev section and see a question posted there. I go to that section for mods, roms, etc like everyone else, not for random questions. I think it would help the new people out if we had a q&a.

Just my 2 cents, even we don't have whole separate Q&A section, may be we should have separate Q&A thread on each ROM in general which could takes away the question posts from Development section. (May be OP with details and open for questions, so other user also help not necessarily developers)

Yeah I know what you mean, and I was not saying that a QA section was not a good idea, just the WE (those of us that pay attention to the rules, and contribute alot) need to inform the mods, when we see that happening. This will be until we get enough questions and posts in here... remember this phone is just a few months old, and we have only had our own section for a short time, in XDA life... so it will take us a few more months to hit the 2 milestones that we need.
I was just trying to do my part in getting the A2 forums on the right track. Some of the posts are just thrown here and there. I'm not a dev but do have knowledge about Android and would like to help out the new people in whatever way i can. Figured q&a was something i could do since i don't do any major development.

i have been a member of xda forums for 1 1/2 years, as well as other android forums around the net. i'm usually the type of person that reads the threads more than i post in them, unless i truly have a helpful answer for someone or i genuinely need help with something. bc of this i have only two posts here at xda, as it's not my go-to forum. nonetheless, i still look through threads here for info and help and occasionally i know the answer to someone's question. upon trying to help someone out earlier in the vzw gnex development forum i was presented with a v-bulletin message telling me i'm not allowed to post there because it's for 'advanced users' who have 'more than ten posts.' i find this to be a ridiculous policy, based solely on my prior activity, or lack thereof. i consider myself to be pretty proficient with android, and basically i would have to make seven other posts in addition to this one (which would have no merit as i don't need to make seven other posts at this time) and clog up other sections of the forums just so i can reply to someone in a development thread. is there no way around this? or do i truly have to come up with some bs posts elsewhere just to help someone?
The reason is they don't want time wasters taking up the time of the developers or people asking questions which have already been asked and answered. Where all it would take is a little effort to search. It fairly easy to get your ten posts look for other forums where you could help. With the amount of members xda all ready has and the amount that sign up everyday, there no way of knowing or determining what expertise the new member may or not have.

i understand what you mean, but I'm far off from being a new member. As stated in the op I've been a member for a year and a half (since Feb 2011.) Oh well. Thanks for the reply
All I can suggest is u look about some of the other forum's where u can post and see if there are people in their u can help.

As chris170569 said, it really isn't difficult to write 10 posts around these forums. If indeed you've done a lot of reading here and are a proficient android user, as you say, then even though you may not feel the need to make other posts, but there are always users here who need help.
The best place to start of is in the forums for your device and look through the General and Q&A sections of said forum to see if you can help anyone.
There's always the option of helping out in the General and Q&A subforums of the General forum.
The posts really won't take long to build up.

Just like KidCarter93 and chris170569 have said it is pretty easy to get 10 thanked posted. As you can see I'm a pretty new member and already have gotten 10+ thanked post. However, when I first came to XDA I didn't even get a thanked post in a forum until almost a month later. After that I post at least once a day, to see if I can help someone out. Just saying you get in what you put out.
Since you're proficient in android, make a thread on answering people's question (if there isn't one already). But to answer your question the only way to answer people's question that you come across is to private message them.
running into the same issue ... need help big time on my EVO
Go to the discussion forum for your device. Should find someone there. Or start a new thread in the Q & A section for your device. Make sure u have really really searched first, if your problem can be sorted by a quick search n u not done that you will get flamed mercessilly

Would there be any way to have a special membership level in the forum privileges that allows posting in the dev forums, this would force people I.E. general users with questions to read and discover the Q&A forums. To get said privileges someone should simply have to request and agree not to break those rules. Good idea?

No. Bad idea.
The Dev forums should be locked to anyone who doesn't have special status on XDA (e.g. Devs, RCs, RTs etc). For a 'normal' user to be able to post in the Dev forum they should have to be invited and approved by the Devs - and that right could be rescinded at any time.
That would have the secondary benefit of stopping the people who continually post useless cr4p just to get their post count up to 10

I agree... To a point, the problem is to get RD ir RC you have to post guides or dev work... Which normally should go in the development section.
It really is a hard one and nothing will ever please all

I'm not so sure that an invite system would be neccesary... just have a simple I agree site that gives access to the dev forums and the halfwits who go through that just to post where they shouldn't could then be banned and do everyone in these forums a favor!

Umm, if you would propose that everyone who doesnt post in the correct section should be banned, then OP, you are kinda
stepping on your own feet...
As this thread belongs in About XDA...
As stated before, there doesn't seem to be a "one rule pleases all" compromise...

Well, for RC, you don't *necessarily* need to create threads, and that too, in the dev section...
Afaik, guides belong to the general section, but there are also accepted in the dev section if it is directly related to development, or is there to prevent non-dev posts in dev area...

Yeah I can appreciate your sentiment but it's not a workable solution. Honestly I don't even think there's a problem, the mods are on their game and the 10 post rule helped weed out some people.

Actually, there must be something to keep them out of OT too, as n00bs come there frequently to increase their post count. I told two of them off today and I got ripped off for being a "party pooper". Sometimes, I wonder why I even bother.

I just think if its important enough to keep the dev posts clean that they will lock them and then we get all the posts *****ing about misposts (worse then the mispost itself) then why not try something a little more locked down... why would a user like myself need access to post in a dev forum for?

If you had frequent SODs you could up a logcat, it's very basic stuff and could potentially help the dev out.
Good ideas are always good, and i frequent the HD2 and Galaxy Nexus forums quite a bit, 2 of the busier dev forums, and don't really see problems with this.

Hi
It directly goes in USB mass storage, How can i change that to USB Tether?
Really??
You already posted the same query in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33595237 and it was answered too, so kindly do explain the point of making a new thread.
Is it that you think posting in a noob thread isn't getting you as much private attention??just so you know no one here is paid to help you.everyone does that out of their free will so kindly show them the courtesy of waiting a few hours hell a day even before posting again thinking now someone will notice.
For your own good consider this as a fact you're much better received in the noob thread than elsewhere as it's a general thread and many members scroll through it regularly.
This thread should not exist in the first place and for argument sake if it would, this would be the wrong forum for that.queries belong in Q&A forum not in General.
