[Q] New to Android + Infuse! Advice? - Samsung Infuse 4G

Hey guys!
So after much contemplation, I decided I was going with the Infuse. I will be purchasing it tomorrow, but I'm also just switching over from iOS.
If you have any advice on what apps I should be getting, please let me know! I already plan to use Launcher Pro, but other than that... I'm not sure what I should use for my media-player (etc). Any advice will be appreciated! Thanks!

the samsung music player and video player are good and the music player has lock screen integration. if we get an aosp lockscreen mod then there are others that have really nice features and aosp lock screen integration. the samsung players have support for many formats but some people like the miui music app or some market apps. i tried a few, songbird seemed cool and there was also power amp but i just wind up using the stock one.
pandora radio is a must for any smart phone. goes without saying. you may want to get k9 mail if email on your phone is important. it has true push notifications and a global inbox for all your accounts.
other than that if you plan to root you want root explorer, maybe terminal emulator, titanium backup. rom manager free(give you cwm recovery), and in the future-voodoo control(doesnt support the infuse yet).

[APP] TV Shows Stream LITE

Hi,
We have been working on this app, is my fourth android app.
The aplication searchs over internet for tv-shows links capables to be played directly on your device, with full screen support using megavideo, frogmovz, karambavidz and other hosting services. The search resoult are shown in a intuitive and easy to use interface.
EDIT: This application is not available anymore.
Samsung galaxy vibrant user here:
Using Nerov3+voodoo
on wifi
While the interface of the app was very easy to navigate. Non of the the videos I tried to play from the few websites I selected would play. I picked monk and the x-files. I also tried multiples of the sources.
It basically opens a webpage and ask you to verify that you are human. Nothing happens for "me" beyond that.
Vibrant user..nerov3..no voodoo Dexter works fine !!
Will this ever support HDMI out for the EVO?
Try megavideo servers first
The best integration is when megavideo is used as stream server, it goes directly to full screen.
I have been watching X Files and Dexter without any problem on my HTC Desire.
Sounds Great I'm in
I purchased the full version. So far so good
I have not had any problems loading videos on the Droid Incredible. However, there seems to be a delay on the sound by about a second or two.
I downloaded the lite version and experienced it both on Prison Break and Lost.
Excellent so far when I use megavideo streams. Awesome that its got its always sunny - thats not even on netflix streaming!.
watching dexter on my nexus one running MircoMod777 Gingerbread V.19
havent tried any others yet but im sure most if not all work, theres alot of sources to choose from so dont start crying if the first one doesnt load up right away, its the lite version, deal with it
Can you add Fringe?
I m a fan.
Beauty! I bought the full version right away. Great app.
same here, great app but would like to suggest maybe an integration with tv show favs app, maybe. I see the bookmarks app which is good, also how often will these be update, are we looking at 30 mins after show aired?

same with me full version on EVO cm7rc0. I will try fresh ROM later.
Hi,
This app has not been tested with custom ROMs. If you experience problems try uninstalling the rom flash player and install flash player from the market before changing your ROM.
so far so good.....most likely will upgrade soon...........great work..........
AWESOME
Bought it right away. And I never buy apps haha

that worked,
thanks for the great app
works flawlessly with cynagen only problem is that still no 4g only in alpha stage when done, it will be amazing, try to see if it will work on my nook.
Running Rod's latest MIUIMOD rom on my N1(running on base 12.31). I didn't even screw with the lite app, I went to the jugular and bought the app.
Watch a few mins of a show and works great! Thanks for the app!
Works fine on my Droid X. It's running Rubix 1.9.5.

[Q] Rooted Droid X questions. 5 issues. Please Help!

Okay, so my Droid X has been rooted for about a month now and I've been going happy-go-lucky with deleting bloatware off of my device. Thusfar I believe I've uninstalled the following: Amazon MP3 player, City ID, Kindle, News, News and Weather, Weather, Terminal Emulator, My Verizon Mobile, Skype, VZ Navigator, and Visual Voicemail. My first two issues relate to this.
#1- I went to Titanium Backup the other day I noticed as I was scrolling up and down the list that contactsunconnected.apk was frozen. I only have the free version of Titanium Backup so I don't even have the capability to freeze apps, so this baffled me. Anyway, when I noticed it I unfroze it and went along my merry way. When I restarted my phone afterward I noticed it was frozen again. I found out that it re-freezes it every time that I restart the phone. So...what the heck does that file even do? And is it okay to leave it frozen? Or should I unfreeze it ever time?
#2- AFTER I'd uninstalled all these apps I happened to be browsing some forums and I was reading that it wasn't a good idea to uninstall these apps, but rather..."freeze" or "rename" the apps so they wouldn't run, but they would still be accessible later on. I read the reason for them needing to be accessible is that if you wanna receive an update (like Gingerbread) in the future you still have to have ALL the bloatware that came stock with the phone. How difficult is it to get this bloatware back? Does anyone have a link to these files?
#3- This is slightly unrelated to the other two issues, but how do you guys feel about the stock Droid X file manager vs Astro File manager? I refuse to be redundant and have two apps that are so similar, but I've noticed that each one has some different strengths that the other doesn't. I really wanna get rid of one, but I'm not sure which one yet. Any suggestions?
#4- The only custom ROM I've tried on my phone was Fission and I was very unhappy. I mean, the ROM looked cool and ran smoothly, but not all my apps carried over. I want a ROM that carries over 100% of my apps. Any suggestions?
#5- How do I go about overclocking my device? And what is the max that I can SAFELY overclock my device at?
Anyway, if you guys can help me with any of these 5 issues that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

3. I used to use astro, but once I got my droid 2 and titanium backup, there didn't seem much of a point to having astro any more.
4. What are 'your apps'? What do you mean by 'carries over'? If they came with the x, then they might rely on blur. If you downloaded them from the market, then they should work fine in fission. Either way, no custom rom will have everything you want, and moto roms will have more than you want.
5. There's a thread all about this in the droid x forums.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
#1 and #2- Do you have any info about these issues?
#3- I see your point. With the built in file manager and Titanium I suppose Astro is useless.
#4- I understand that some of the motorola stuff won't carry over, but some things that I installed from the market didn't carry over. Clockwork Mod was one of those and I had to redownload it just to be able to flash back to stock. Also, some of the other stock apps like Gmail, Email, and Messaging that I DO like didn't carry over. It was frustrating.
#5- Can you give me a link to this?

Not sure about number one at all, I never use that function in titanium.
Likewise, for number two, I'm always running a custom rom, so I never have to worry about that.

[Q] DANGER: Freezing bloatware?

There is a system APP that I'm freezing that is putting my phone into a bootloop and requiring me to do a restore; I did it 3 times already. I thought it was wificalling, and I still think you can't freeze that, but it's something else. Please tell me which of the following (it has to be one or many of these) it could be? Or better yet, tell me which ones I shouldn't freeze:
Android Live Wallpapers
Backup
Bluetooth services
Bluetooth share
Gallery
Live Wallpaper Picker
Magic Smoke Wallpapers
Market
Market updater
Music
Music Visualization wallpapers
My Account
Settings
Settings Storage
Smartshare
SSH Tunnel
SpareParts
Titanium backup
Super Manager
Talk
Video Player
Voice Dialer
VPN Services
EB 1.05 Froyo, Faux's Kernel
Thanks!
All the live wp are gone on mine
G2X
Holy crap! You have all that frozen? I have to fiigure that anything that looks at the settings or is used during normal operation will cause some issues...

Why have a smart phone if your going to freeze everything I understand freezing the bloat ware but freezing all the system services don't make sense I doubt it will make your phone any faster
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
Dood there are at least ten threads on this subject.
Putting that aside, you are freezing system stuff. Why would you freeze the settings? Why Bluetooth? Why gallery?
Buy a dumb phone. Seriously you are freezing half the the phone. Just get a dumb phone.
ITS ALL WONKY!!!

Don't freeze those, for a start! As others have said, built in services isn't bloatware!
Why market? That just defeats the entire reason for a smartphone lol.

You should have put the whole phone into the freezer, it would probably work better.
ok...
Wow, calm the F down u all, it's not like I don't use them. I unfreeze them if I need them. \
Android Live Wallpapers (get off my damn phone)
Backup (I don't need this, i use titanium backup, and it's always running in the bg)
Bluetooth stuff (almost never use, but will when I get the headset)
Gallery (always running in the background and you can view your pics right on the camera while this is frozen, so ... ).
Live Wallpaper Picker (get the f off my phone)
Magic Smoke Wallpapers (get off my phone)
Market (alright, you have a point...)
Market updater (doesn't this just update the apps?, the general consensus is that problems come with updates on APPs, although clearly, one can argue au contraire...)
Music (alright, touché)
Music Visualization wallpapers (No... I don´t need this..)
My Account, Settings, Settings Storage, spare parts (i don't go in there anymore after I got the phone all geared up)
Smartshare- what even is this?
SSH Tunnel- half of you probable don't know what this is...
SpareParts- ummmm... don't really ever go in this i forget what it is?
Titanium backup- it's backed up! why give it the chance to run in the background..?
Super Manager (I only use for when I look up root **** which is almost never anymore since I got everything where I want it. )
Talk (I don't want this, I use Skype...)
Video Player (fine, touché)
Voice Dialer (it doesn't ever match the numbers correctly, so clearly I can freeze)
VPN Services (What is this??)
I don´t base my life around this crap, I just want to make my phone as good as it can be with the longest battery life and the stock kernel and rom obviously can´t do it...
peace:: V

I'm far from a pro at Android, but the above, and the fact that you're trying to rationalize to a forum why freezing certain processes are putting you in a bootloop is hilarious. As if the people here can appeal to the G2X for you.
Talk sweetly to try and convince the device itself. Or just look at the list of apps that are safe to freeze.

[ROGERS] bloatware list?

Was wondering if anyone has made a comprehensive list of bloatware that is safe to uninstall for the I727R yet? I've used a couple of roms, and they're great, just not as stable as the stock.
Would love to remove *all* the bloat from my device, just don't know which ones are 100% safe to trash yet....
Also, from what I've read, I can just change the kernel if I want to oc, right? What's a good kernel for that? Da_og?
Sent from my rooted SGS2 I727R using stock, until something really stable comes along using xda-app
Two that come to mind off the top of my head
Da_G oc kernal
or
faux123 oc kernal
I've had no problems with either one, but only have limited experience with them.
And those are pretty stable on the Rogers offering? Sorry for the 20 questions, but I'm a novice at best with Android... and this device in particular doesn't seem to have a lot of material that lends itself to inspire absolute confidence in someone of my level of understanding, lol

I have not tried these kernals with stock rogers gingerbread, but from what I have read around these forums it sounds fairly stable.
if it were me I would just try it; and see if you can get it nice and stable thats the fun of flashing around.

If you think it might be bload but you aren't sure just go into titanium backup and freeze it. It is the exact same but if you run into problems later just unfreeze it and its right back on your phone. If it turns out you really dont need it then just unistall it
I'm running the ATT bln mod kernel on ATT hardware but a rogers rom and I have no issues.

Hope no one minds, but I'm gonna keep this bumped till a list is made, our I compile a good list to share... Might be hard though... The urge to flash is getting pretty severe

After flashing the TPC v3 rom, here are my list of frozen apps. I've also got a lot of third party apps to replace stock launcher/dialer/keyboard/etc.... so I've frozen the stock ver of those.
I'll repeat the advise stated earlier in the thread, use Titanium Backup to freeze the apps instead of removing them completely until you're sure you don't need those.

Nice list
One suggestion: TwLauncher, I'm pretty sure if you were to do a factory reset phone would crash after the inital setup(language blah blah).
Second thing, I've frozen secphone.apk for some time with no ill effects(not sure what it does). Could be screenshot service?
big thanks tom! Now if I can only figure out why this bleeding device keeps frying SD cards... 3rd one onside of a month! WTF?!?

Thanks! I've just frozen secphone as well.
Groovy, thanks xda, tom. I was holding off flahing any new roms... but with the card issues, as well as reading the rave reviews of TPC's rom, I'm going to give it a run tonight.
Also, I'll name my first partition after you~
Great
Great list - just rooted, purchased TB, and froze almost all of the above mentioned (except TwLauncher and related).
Seemed to free up a lot of available ram on my SGS2 LTE.
Next step would be trying out 'roms', which I have next to none knowledge of.
Or just wait for the official OTA update coming up in a month or two...
honestly rogers doesnt put as much bloatware on the phone as att does to their version. I removed more Samsung bloatware then rogers bloatware when I was running stock. I'm now running CocaColaClassic and it works flawlessly on my Rogers GS2LTE i727r plus when he updates his rom he includes a update zip. I've tried every single rom and thats the best, cyanogenmod 7 is the second best rom available. Though this is my opinion. Also I use LauncherPro instead of twlauncher (find it much more efficient and faster)
Whats better on Coke than TPCs? Just curious

Freezing apps with TB doesn't free up any memory:
here is a relevant excerpt from TB Technical Guidline
17. Does “freezing” apps free space from phone memory ?
No, it doesn’t. The “frozen” app remains on the phone with its data, it’s just that the app gets completely disabled until you “defrost” it.

[Q] Mod ROM Newbie

The last time I rooted a phone and installed a custom ROM was on a HTC with Windows 6.5, so to say I'm rusty is an understatement.
And honestly, I liked HTC Sense so I never had the urge. But now, I have been waiting for the ICS Android for so long that I think it's time to Mod Again! And it will be nice to get rid of that pink T-Mobile crapware! So I have a few newbie questions, I'll hope you'll forgive me.
1. Will I be able to keep all my app store bought apps? How?
2. Can I go back to the "official" ROM if I have to send in my device for repair?
3. What are considered the best HTC Sense/ICS Roms for the sensation?
4. Will I be able to migrate my contacts? How? (and will I be able to get rid of the awful duplication of records that seems to have occurred somehow)
5. Is there a reason to actually not go for HTC Sense? I personally really like the smart linking features of contact related information and the way contacts work with all the social networks info in one contact record. I think the contacts are where the phone shines. I hate the bugs in the music app and I don't really like the photo app either.
6. Where can I find a good step by step guide? (I can find it myself, but while I'm asking the pro's anyways)
7. Are there any limitations such as things that won't work as well because of driver support etc?
Cheers,
Marc
