[Q] Original Sidekick Notifications and Ringtones - T-Mobile Sidekick 4G

The old sidekicks are out of commission so I do not see where this would be a problem. Does anyone have the original Sidekick ringtones available? Specifically Dangerous Girl or the "Danger" ones.

dude seriously..... u shouldve just stayed with the old one -.-

Can't stay with the old one and still have internet. I think my wife would have. I had to pull it from her hands. I finally got an Iphone in her hands but that was hard for both of us. I couldn't get her to settle on an android device. I have the Inspire, one of the best phones i've ever had. She wants the ringtones though from it and I didn't have a developer key from Danger where i could get them. If it were even possible.

I've been searching around on google for a good half an hour and haven't found anythng except a few youtube clips. All we need are the audio files to convert to an mp3 and the rest is easy. We could also download the videos from youtube and rip the audio that way.

I actually thought about that. And then I thought about running them through Audacity for quality improvement. I just was hoping beyond hope that someone would have one. I tried to re-open a thread on another forum but no one has responded. The person had some of the effects, just none of the tones.

I found a post with these files. (not allowed to post links yet!)

Hey good to see you here! I too wondered about the ringtones from the original Sidekick but I never had a developer key but that's okay.

here is the link: http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f8/sidekick-new-message-sound-file-9870/#post106592 files are included (also several from the AIM app later in the same thread)

A developer's key wouldn't help much with getting ringtones off the Danger powered Hiptops.
We would need an inside source that had access to "hands on" development at Danger to get the actual files that the Hiptop used. The original sound files were stored as Beatnik .RMF files--although the device did support up to 17 seconds of audio with a compessed 16-bit, 11kHz, IMA (4:1) WAV files.
Even if you could dump perfect originals, you wouldn't be able to use them on Android. Google did not license Beatnik's compression technology and the development community has moved toward XMF--an open format for MIDI triggered audio.
The best way to get the sounds now is to plug the device directly into a computer and record the sounds directly. That would require taking a few extra minutes to crop and clean up the recordings, but it should work.

Doing this as we speak.

Does anybody have an original Sidekick or Color Sidekick? I traded mine in as I upgraded and the oldest device I own is a Sidekick 2.
It would be nice to have the sounds from the original device.

Sidekick Slide is what I got.

The files I shared from the Android community seem to be from the original Sidekicks.
I have also posted the files here on my SugarSync account (similar to DropBox):
https://www.sugarsync.com/share/bt8m248oxzcbv

Also, I have a CSK, a Sidekick 2, & a Sidekick LX (2007)

@Orange, LOL I see you accessed the folder already!! let me know what you think!

Nice work. Thanks.
I'll go ahead and rip the SKII audio, icons, and make a Danger checkerboard wallpaper.
I'll throw them on sugarsync when I'm done.

My thanks to those who have posted the sounds from the old Sidekicks. I rooted my Sidekick and put one of the tones on the internal memory at /system/audio/notifications/. I can set it as my chosen tone in the messaging app, but it doesn't play after I copy it. Also, I noticed the pre-loaded sounds are in .ogg format. Should ÷ convert the mp3 to ogg and retry? Or, should it work either way?

Thank you!
Thank you for everyone's hard work!! The original sidekicks will be greatly missed, in my opinion. I haven't had a chance to play with the 4g yet, but my wife is still having withdrawls!

Sidekick II backgrounds
Here's the Sidekick II classic "checkboard" wallpaper background.
Pull the wallpaper size to fit the entire image before you apply it.
The icon images will probably need to be resized. They also don't look quite right without the blue dot behind them. But, they seem to fit the rest of the Android theme better like this...

is that the hi-def version? looks a bit low-res or was that on purpose?

Rom 5.11.502.2 Decreases Ringtone limit to 300k

After updatng to the new rom, half of my ringtones stop working.
After a 1 hour conversation on the phone with HTC... I figured out that the ringtones that were working were under 300K. I then took the ringtones that were not working, and decreased their file size to under 300K and they started working again... ( I think the agent is taking credit for my discovery... - but who cares)
Anyway, looks like ATT decreased the 600 K limit to 300 K for custom ringtones...
Now to find a fix for it...
If you know how to edit the registry, here is the thing to edit.
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds]
FileSizeLimit"="300000"
As you can see, it's set to 300k. Just change the "300000" to your desired limit.
http://mikefordmustang.com/downloads/NoRingtoneLimit.cab
enjoy.
Awesome! Thanks
300K, What are they thinking? Locking people into buying their ringtones, I guess.
Started the thread in case some others run into this, Issues can get lost in the longer threads.
The guys over at HTC were like, Wow, 300K.

How do i tilt screen?

I have the HTC Touch2 as you can see, the screen's quite small, and i'd wana know if it's possible to turn the screen sideways . I saw a few apps but it wasnt under Touch2 Sub-forum. So i didn't want to trust it as my touch2 is just two weeks new and i really care deeply for the phone as its my first ever phone and its touchscreen, so i don't want to mess it up with too many applications that does not work and slow down my phone. Thanks in advance
Good to hear you love you baby...... but sometimes you have to try and see if it works for you.....the apps for screen rotation are not with much risk....
Read the posts and pick out the best option......
See my thread (Usefulll appss for Touch2) , download the Screen Rotate.cab ... make the instructions and i GUARRANTEE that it'll go smoothly ! i'm using this for months and it's working perfectly !
LtBlue,
I have found your thread and i have checked it.
The only apps you uploaded were,

Audio_FINAL1.0_minus_20_Touch2.cab (8.5 KB, 58 views)
Disable_Auto_Device_Lock.cab (1.0 KB, 44 views)

I dont see Rotate Screen.cab, did you remove it? Could u please upload one over here if you do not mind , thanks.
And did u scrolled at least 15cm down ? it's in the next post !
Thanks, it worked. Sorry my bad for not reading through the whole thread.
But hey, do u have any applications to lock the SMS/Text folder so others cant read them when they are using my phone?

[PROJ]APK resource hacking -> enhancing games

Since I've found a quite big difference in size between Need For Speed: Shift versions I thought I could enhance music/textures in the snapdragon version.
So first of all I want to ask, is there and chance that we could hack/recompile any apks without touching some protection? AFAIK they are using md5 checks, but they are hackable.
Next, do you think it would make any sense except making games run with better graphics(we can make higher quality sounds, use higher resolution textures and maybe add bumpmaps/specmaps if they're supported by the game AND it searches for them) and may-be "mod"(replace all textures with You're winner ) the games. But is there any possibility to use them in any other useful way?
And at last, are you interested? I personally think that if I could do that I'd enhance NFS:Shift and downgrade Asphalt 5 and that's it. Really I have no idea why else would I "hack" apks.
APKs are based on the JAR format which is basically a ZIP file - you can extract files from an APK, modify them, rezip to an APK and self-sign the APK.
I had a look at the NFS:Shift demo (CRC32 - 74CFDB53 / 104,113,671 bytes) and it contains a bunch of assets which you could potentially change if you so wished. Does anyone else have any different APKs?

MP3s could be replaced to music of your liking, not sure why they decided to include that many songs for what appears to be 1 free track in the demo, I didn't play it too long to find out. I'll have a look at res.dz.jpg tommorow which looks like it contains all the other game assets.
Yeah I've done 100% the same thing you did
The rez.dz.jpg thing doesn't open up though, it's some kind of internal compression algorithm. Though someone from russian nfs community may hack it.
In my Version there are all mp3 sound files on the sdcard!
I got you a little file list to begin with.
The file separation doesn't seem to be very intricate, but the compression needs work.
If tomorrow I'm just as bored as today I might give it a shot
LOL thx dude you're awesome ;o
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
so I think the .dz.jpg has been already hacked, cause it may have been used in some other PC/Console NFS.
I'm more interested in curtailing some of the suspicious permissions that the hacked version of NFS:Shift requests. Read/Write Contacts, really?
I just found this thingie:
http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/
Will try it out tommorow

[Q] MMS Size limit

Does anybody know how to increase the mms size limit on the captivate? I'd like to increase it to at least 1MB
I don't know if that can be done.
When I attach a video/pic (Clearly over 1mb) it automaticly compresses it to send

I kno mikeymike moved the limit up to 600kb for the serendipity rom but I am not sure how he did it or how high is possible. Just letting you kno it can be done...
After some googling I came up with 600 kb being the highest AT&T can handle.
I set it higher than that (like 1mb) and things never got past "Sending...".

I'm was trying to send a video that's maybe 400kb, and it wouldn't go. I know I can download handcent or chomp and change the setting in there but I like the stock sms app and would like to keep that. 600kb is all they can handle if they recently changed their settings. Back in August I had a windows mobile device which I tweaked to allow over 1mb to be sent and it allowed me. My daughter is starting to walk and I took a small video to send my mom that is about 400kb and it won't go. MikeyMike, can you instruct me on how to increase mine or is it something highly involved. I tried doing it yesterday but after moving the new mms.apk in, it fc'd, so I had to go back to the original from the rom.
Thanks for your help.
Mms.apk\res\xml\mms_config.xml
Code:
<int name="maxMessageSize">614400</int>
That's 600kb.

SMS size limit
I tried what MickeyMike suggested and it fc's after i put it back into system/app. I open the file from 7zip and edit it from within, then just save the file, that way i don't have to repackage.

You've got to decompile it with APK Manager.

Help Please...profile picture emergency...

Not worth the effort but really want a profile picture for xda account. Have resized several images but none will upload. Just keeps saying upload failed. :crying: This is a big problem and will be thanked massively.
Hmm that is a bit strange. I had no trouble uploading an avatar on here. You should make sure that the maximum size of your custom image is 80 by 80 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller). If your image fits those parameters then it might be your browser that's causing some trouble. Try uploading it using another one.
