After using about 20 different roms I discovered that that I like it the way it came. Although, I did root it to use any rooted only apps, lol.

Have you tried a Sense cleaned up (bloatware) ROM? In any case, you might want to use Titanium to at least freeze some of the bloatware apps. You should still be able to get the OTA 2.3 update if/when HTC/TMo finally gets around to it.
I am not sure if being rooted will prevent that.

root on stock ROM shouldnt prevent it. although you will probably lose root. good idea to wait to update and see what the devs say about any new update. losing root to a new update isnt cool because you never know how long it will take for some one to figure out how to root again.

I am with you. I have not tried nor want to try any roms. I really like the default rom as is. I came from the HD2 where I flashed so many different roms, I ended up staying with a version of the mytouch 4g. Then I went and bought a real mytouch 4g and love it. I also rooted to get rid of the crappy apps. No problem with keeping it as is. People will always try and talk you into flashing a custom, but to be honest this is the first time I never have had any bugs or issues that I had to live with until the "next update".

same here...no matter how many different ROMS I flash, I always end up going back to the stock MySense. I did have a great experience with Orange Sense tho, pure sense and blazing fast thanks to Faux

Totally with you guys, after flashing several roms, trying to get them to work properly, then ending up too frustrated to continue, went right back to stock rom. rooted and removed bloatware. now happy as can be.

Same deal here. I came from the HD2 running android as well with the MT4G build, then I just bought the real deal. Mainly for the wifi calling and the front camera for the video calling. I gave the HD2 to my daughter and for some reason just last week the touch screen stopped working,, for windows and android. So there sending me a replacement, it should be here sometime this week. Does any of you know if I can use HP3 to flash roms and android builds? cuz I did use HD2 and Now I can't find it but I did find HD3. I waS Just wondering if they did the same thing. but I'm glad to hear i'm not the only one who digs the stock sense. I thought I was the only one.. LOL.. although now that CM7 is officially out I may give it a look... but I'm sure as always i'll end up back with stock.. and hopefully we'll get the honeycomb upgrade or the 2.3 sooner or later..

My last phone was a mytouch 3g, which I rooted a few months into owning it, because with that phone there were so many glitches and so much lag that you had to root it to get it to work decently. And I wound up flashing a bunch of sense roms lol. But with this phone, it pretty much works and does everything I need it to out of the box.
With that said, do you guys really think it's still worth it to root for the non-rom-flashing benefits? i.e. setcpu and removal of bloatware? For my needs, I don't really feel like I need to overclock the phone, but I like the idea of underclocking to save battery...also, while the bloatware apps are annoying, it's not like they have taken away any functionality of the phone...I know everyone here's MO is "ROOT ASAP" but it seems like it's a little more complicated than it was for the MT3G, and while I'm not an idiot, I'm not really a tech-whiz either lol. Just not sure if it's worth the trouble and risk if I don't want/need to flash different roms.

I ran stock for a month and used ADW Launcher EX (normal version does this also) in order to hide the bloatware from the app drawer. This phone has so much power that for me it was out of sight out of mind with bloatware. I would assume LPP and other home replacement apps would have similar functions.
I flashed around a bit after rooting but always came back to stock, but then I switched to Orange Glacier by Faux123. It's stock, just quicker and debloated with some system apps moved in case you want to remove them also. IMO it's a bit better, but I still haven't decided how life changing it is His kernels def are.

I waited around 10 days before I rooted my phone just to get a nice feel of how things ran. yes I would definitely root if I were you. if you dont want to uninstall the bloatware, you can just freeze them with titanium. setcpu with a custom kernel underclocking with screen off will improve battery life as well(only OC to play games or view videos)

[Q] Why was is necessary to root your Nexus S?

I've been contemplating on rooting my Nexus S, since I've done so on my G2 and G1 since it was necessary since their stock roms were slow but I don't see anything wrong with the Nexus S at all. Also, I definitely think the unlock picture on a rooted Nexus S is ugly.
Anyways, post why it was necessary to root your Nexus S besides the fact that you're an android-fanatic
What do you use which needed root?

- Titanium Backup
- Flashing ROMs (Doesn't require root, but its a gateway toward flashing)
- Custom Kernels
Basically, I mess with my phone because stock is boring and not flashing/rooting your phone is well... BORING!
Exciten things up.

My first move is always rooting and flashing a stock deodex rom so I can theme it.
Also I use apps for security as well like droid wall, orbot, lbe privacy guard, my backup pro, lookout, which mostly require root.

I have not found a compelling reason to root yet, either.
I rooted both my previous Galaxy S and Vibrant, but that was because they were performing poorly and Samsung is the worst at upgrading their [email protected] software.
But the Nexus S has been pretty stable and I've seen nothing to make me root and play with ROMs (and I am weary of getting back into the WM6 cycle of constantly flashing, hoping that the next build will be the one stable one....)
I have settled on MIUI.ADW.Launcher as my default (using Suave HD icons http://macthemes.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=16804800, which I actually like better than the MIUI ROM), so I really can't see a reason (yet) for going through the hassle of rooting and flashing with this one.

really thats what this whole community is based on, if you are not gonna root it, then you CANT do anything thats discussed here at XDA. I mean I dont even hesitate to root a phone as soon as I get it. Actually make sure I can root a device before I buy it

Yeah, I always think like that too, espcially with htc devices I love pure android and if i were to get any htc or custom skinned phones I would root to change rom but the nexus s non rooted is pretty stable and looking at the rom development in nexus s, majority of it is AOSP-based. but thanks for the replies guys! I think I'll stick to non-rooted until something cool pop ups that needs root or if i wanna further customize

PS PS: one reason for me wanting to root the phone before g etting is was to get HD video but it's unfortunately a hardware problem. blah oh well

I originally did it for BLN.
Just relock it when you are done - no unlock picture

I have a question for u why isnt it necessary lol.
But all in all it unleashes more fun for u and the phone. More roms more apps more battery more power. More jealousy from people that dont have one

I mean, I've rooted my phones before but the Nexus S has no problems with speed, its filled with only google apps no bloatware, it's pretty fast already, and I'm always on XDA to find more android development but I couldn't find a reason to root the phone so I just wanted to see what you guys specifically root it for

Same here i used to root my phones like g1 and vibrant. But i dont find a reason to do so now as everything i need already works.
Keeping it stock i can get the latest update directly from google asap

the primary reason was the addiction to flash. The will to try all the roms that comes out

What has been your experience with rooting your Sensation?

I've reviewed some of the ROM comments and browsed around on the net but can't seem to come to a conclusion on if I should root my device or not. I had a T-mobile G2 before and it was rooted. I loved testing out other roms and finding ones that works best as well as obviously the boosts in speeds.
The Sensation to me feels more complete and aside from some useless apps and the occasional glitchy things that happen with it I'm pretty satisfied overall.
Can anyone provide some positive user experiences with rooting their devices or if some of the roms correct some of the known issues with the Sensation reliable without causing other issues lol?
I'm really up in the air about this and can't decide, what do you guys think?

I rooted my sensation just Cos I did the same to my old x10 mini, I found rooting it was easy following the guide on here and flashing new roms is easy too, all I can suggest is that you read the instructions, try different roms to see which one works for you and don't forget that rooting voids your warranty

When flashing custom roms are you losing all installed apps each time and finding you need to restore via titanium? I ask because I've seen threads say you do and don't lose your installed apps and data.

I'm pretty new here and my experience with android devices was 0 up to three weeks ago when i decided to buy the sensation. I then stumbled upon XDA dev forum and now i'm hooked .
I decided to root and flash a custom rom three days after getting the phone... as far as eye candy goes Sense is brilliant but the functionality is 0.
The whole process of installing clockwork, perm rooting and flashing a custom rom took exactly twenty minutes and was no hassle at all.
At the moment i run P3d Neon-No Sense and the phone is a whole lot better. Battery life is double, RAM consumption is 1/2 and overall the performance is great.
So... my advice... root and flash away!

Thanks jeryko that's the kinda thing I was looking to hear. The sensations touch screen is the only reason I'm Leary about voiding the warrenty with rooting. If you unroot the device can they still tell?
I love sense I think it integrates things nicely and visually (with the exception of a few minor things) and gives a way more polished premium feel to devices. However as stated above it does bog down the phone a bit...even with the dual core. HTC really should have added 1gb of ram I think. Overall though my phones not slow just sometimes a little stutter here and there.

ive rooted my sensation, well i at least i did / was rooted before the update came out. to be honest i haven't seen any reason to reroot. i still have a unlocked boot loader but the urge to root and flash roms isnt really there for me yet. this is probably because i am happy with sense 3.0 and the phone doesnt lag for me at all after the latest update. the only real thing that will probably get me to root again is when a good aosp rom releases or CM7. i really miss having then bluetooth capabilities of a stock aosp rom

No problem. Well... the sensation has it's drawbacks but price/quality it's definitely worth the money.
About the warranty issue... can't really tell you... I've read on the forum that you can Switch back to stock rom and kernel and S-ON again but the procedure (for S-ON) is a bit risky and frankly i have no clue if after you go through all that there's any way of telling that the phone has been tampered with... you'll have to ask the older and wiser folks around here for a knowledgeable answer.

Root it, stop delaying the inevitable.

And that's why I don't regret going s-off and flashing custom ROMs. Root just comes with the territory.
Funny thing, I went custom on my Sensation within the first week while I left my wife's stock. Fast forward three weeks later, I was pretty satisfied with the speed and stability on my phone. I pick up my wife's phone and unlock it to surf the net. First thing that happens? Random restart and back to the HTC splash screen. Really?? I'd totally forgotten about the random restarts and choppy home screen scrolling. Ended up s-offing that thing and flashing a custom ROM that same night. She hasn't complained about her phone since.

I'm so tempted....you guys are evil lol Seriously though the only thing holding me back is the warrenty being voided. I didn't care so much with my G2(that thing was the most reliable phone ever) but the sensation is still new and I'm skeptical about how long the hardware will keep up and all. My biggest complaint would be the volume on some things ...everything else works great though except an occasional lack of response until I lock and unlock the phone...which is rare.

The ONLY reason I rooted was to remove the apps I don't want to use. I'm running my own ROM which is a basic version of 1.45.401.2 with all the crap I don't want removed. If it didn't have the **** on the ROM in the first place I probably wouldn't have bothered to root it

Agreed....

I unlocked the bootloader as soon as I could and started loading custom ROMs. I've been running the P3D ROM (Sense version) for a few weeks now, and it's doubled my battery life plus it's faster. My brother has his Sensation still S-ON stock (latest OTA update) and we compared it side by side and we both agreed mine is noticeably faster. I also like the blue neon theme with that ROM.
Even that particular ROM aside, I've had generally better battery life with anything other than the stock ROM. That alone is enough reason to do it IMO.

Ok I know that I am a noob to rooting and installing roms. Currently I am on my second one Android Revolution HD™ 3.0.3. Rooting it was the best thing I've done. i wish I would have gotten the balls to root years ago!

Hi, I know I asked earlier but when you flash a new Rom do you lose all your apps and data? I see many people flashing new roms weekly and daily and am just wondering how you deal with all your apps and data. I can't imagine everyone starting from scratch each time. I know titanium can do a batch restore, is that what everyone does? (Sorry for my noobish behavior in this thread.)

I am very happy with my rooted Sensation. My previous phone was a rooted Nexus One. I can say that rooting is a great way of customizing your phone to your liking.

Titanium batch, best app purchase for the crack flasher. I timed myself, 30 mins tops to go from one rom to another

We should have root access out of the box. Too much fun stuff, but impossible to find a ROM perfect for you. Your going to tweak something eventually

I recently bought an G2x and am very familure with the htc rooting as i was with Sprint. But service sucked so I went to T-Mobile figuring they would be bought out. BUMMER! Anyways I had a couple questions and cant seem to find my answers.
First off is if the phone gets rooted what features do I lose? Like I heard something about the graphics or what not.
Secondly if rooted could it handle the new cm?
Third is it even worth the effort?

Just using a rooted stock rom you will not loose anything.
Yes it can handle CM.

You've got nothing to lose, and everything to gain. Graphics aren't affected by rooting any device? I'm not sure where you heard that from. haha
CM7 runs great on this device, and ICS runs even better. (Alpha build)
It takes less than 5 minutes to ClockworkMod Recovery installed on here, so why not?

you lose nothing at all; graphics, functionality, speed, etc.
rooting just gives you extra permissions and abilities in addition to what you already had before. if you dont want to mess with the technical stuff, you can just leave ur stock rom rooted and enjoy the increased battery life and other simple stuff you can do with root.
rooting is essentially gaining superuser access to what companies dont want you to have because they're afraid of you breaking your phone or copyright or whatever. if you need to send it in to warranty, just unroot and youre all good.
tldr: rooting is good, no harm can come if youre not stupid and if you can read. have fun!

If you are looking for a custom ROM look at Weapon G2X, Tsugi, or cyanogenmod. I am currently using Weapon G2X with faux's kernel @1. 4 GHZ and my phone is very fast and stable. Also I am getting 10+ hrs of battery when I lower the clock speed to 1.2

I'm using Bionix Reloaded rom with Dragon G2X Kernel. I'm getting about 12-16 hours of battery life. My phone is not overclocked.

[Q] Why did you install a custom ROM on your phone?

I'm curious to know why people actually spend the time on their phones and risk bricking and voiding the warranty on their phone to install the latest stable or beta ROM for their device. Is it because the stock ROM doesn't let you do your daily tasks? Or is it slow? Or is it buggy in some way?
For example, I have a HTC Desire. The reason why I installed custom roms was that I bought it second-hand with Oxygen (gingerbread 2.3.4) already pre-installed. It had some bugs as it was a beta version, but overall it was pretty good.
I then found Cyanogenmod 7.1, where I was able to get around the major issue of apps filling the tiny internal memory using scripts to put entire apps on the SD card. I was stoked, and it ran really well with no major issues. It felt like a new phone.
However, I just got my dad a HTC Desire HD, and it has the stock Sense 3.0 on there (Gingerbread 2.3.5). I was going to install Cyanogenmod, but now I'm wondering if it's truly worth the effort for a basic user.
So why do YOU install a custom ROM?

I install custom ROM's, Radios, Kernals, etc for one simple reason......
every Android phone that I have ever had the pleasure of tinkering with, works better when rooted and ROMmed. It truly gives you the customization that makes you feel like the phone belongs to and was built for YOU!!!

How do you know for sure? I'm the same, I just flash it without thinking, like I did with my new Samsung Galaxy S2 just a few days ago (ICS, woo!). I was just about the flash this HTC Desire HD and I thought hey... who knows, maybe stock ROMs are pretty good? Or are they generally rubbish?

Well, my D1 ran stock for two months before it got pimped, so I gave it a very thorough chance! My wifes Eris ran stock for four months until she was ready to throw it off a wall, so it got its fair chance too! Then she moved to a D2G, which ran exceptionally well out of the box, I was kind of upset that she didnt like her experience. It did however, run a lot smoother once root and Liberty was added! And now for our GNex's........I ran stock ICS for two weeks and I must truly say, this device doesn't need root or anything else to kick ass, it just does! However, the developer support is just too incredible, and when you add ICSourcery to a GNex, you'll know why it must be rooted and running that ROM!!!

To get rid of crap I didn't need.

well i have a GN, so bricking or wrecking it is low on the list, its so easy to root, unlock, flash. I love stock ICS, but I do like the extra features I get with CM9.

The main reason I rooted my phone and through a rom in there is to get the portable wifi for my tablet.

Reason: to learn more about Android phones, and to get rid of bloatware.

because roms are a whole world, it's not just performance or bugs, is the option to change to customize toggles, positions, color, overclock and every little part of you phone...
for example, the resurrection remix or any AOKP let you put calendar events on lockscreen, show wheather in a special panel in the statusbar, hide your battery icon and put a line to measure it, you can even put a navigation bar like nexus
... it's not just cool and waaaaaaay better than stock rom, it is although handy

To get rid of the bloat-ware on the stock firmware!

There is tons of reason to update to a custom ROM. The big deal for me was getting rid of the bloat, also having more features with CM7.

So I could have stock aosp OR sense 3.5. I like both, especially on the thunderbolt (similar to the HD) nothing seems to slow these phones down.

There are many reasons. For example, the phone looks, feels and works like i want.
And one more reason is, that the original software is not so perfect as the most users want.

Overflowing options. Change everything down to the boot image.And speed,and BATTERY TWEAKS!!!!

The reason why i'm using a custom rom is the phones OS feel more smooth and stable and all the bloatware from HTC,Samsung etc. were removed so the performance is much better
