So, I have Dexters Froyo rom and the Mioze7 bugfix. I'm not doing anything with the kernal. I changed the build.prop fingerprint to indicate that I had a Nexus S, and I had a lot more apps in the market. I found an alternative swap program, Swapper for Root, not Swapper 2, or Swapper Root. I installed it, and it created a swap file on my SD Card. I swear it must be working. My phone acts like it's doubled in Ram, with switching to Launcherpro from another program quick as a wink. Swapper 2 wouldn't work. It'd be cool if someone else would check this out. With this, and the modified Netflix apk, I really couldn't ask for a better phone.
thx fr d info....will try it out.

my phone has a PROBLEM with the market, can you upload the Swapper for Root apk file? thx
Busybox free shows 0 swap All across. It also only shows like 5600 free ram. It may be a placebo but My Phone has never run smoother. It creates a swap file on the fat32 partition rather than a swap partition.

Hi cancrippler, good suggestion to reason on. Did you locate the swap file in the fat32 or ext3 partition of the sd card? And moreover, how much space did you allocate for this file (200 MB is the default value)?
What other tricks did you use to speed up and smooth your phone?
256 on fat32 partition.

This program tells me that I have -18227712Mb (yeah this is minus) free on my SD card, so I'm unable to run it. :/

can you upload your build.prop file? I'd like the Nexus S market id!
I don't mean to be a spoil-sport but I am very skeptical that this is possible. Swap support has to be compiled into the kernel (it can't be built as a module), and Motorola didn't do that. Are you able to "cat /proc/swaps"? You should be able to fastboot fjfalcon's kernel to compare.

I can't seem to setup the swap file, it keeps on giving me errors. Anyone can help? No FAQ or instructions on the application either
Use a partiton for swap, not file, File corrupts sd card eventually.
Quest. Why do u need swap?
You'll just make your system more unstable by using a swap
Swap is not required on the Nexus One.
All the kernel I come across here do not have swap compiled. If you want swap (which by now you should know it is not necessary), you need to compile your own kernel with "CONFIG_SWAP=y".
Swap is not enable for a good reason, read this:
http{colon}{slash}{slash} j.mp {slash} 9DrSEs
You need to replace the {??} with appropriate character on the URL above as I do not have enough karma here to post outside URL.
I saw this app in Market and I thought it would be interesting to try out. It's not needed for Nexus One?

Burn, boot, use password renew to reset the password for any account.
I'm trying this, except when I get to "adb shell a2sd install" it says a2sd: not found.
:\
I had to go to /system/bin before i could run a2sd via ./a2sd, after which it worked.

it allows you to use the ext partition from previous versions of CM. Froyo's version now uses a fat32 partition on the sd card, therefore will not read the ext partition and the fact that your apps are on there.

It's not as good, but coming from <= CM5 you may want to port along your apps.
Also Froyo's SD implementation is supported on an per app basis, but can be forced via CM. Note that dalvik cache is only moved to SD when using legacy a2sd.

froyo implementation isn't as good as apps2ext. The froyo method uses the fat32 partition but only if the dev of the app allows it to be moved to the sdcard. plus the apps don't all load on boot because the phone has to mount (prepare)the fat32 partition of the sdcard. This is the reason that many apps are not launching at boot like SetCpu and other root access apps, because the system boots before the sdcard is prepared. This is also the reason why many widgets and apps are missing from the app drawer for a lot of people as well. Cyanogenmod really needs to look at this and think about changing back to the old cm5 way of doing things.
I am trying to find a good backup app as doing a Nandroid did not work for me with doing aps2sd this way.

well in regular linux world, you format filesystems with mkfs, just typing 'mount' into the command like should yield what file systems are mounted, what fs they are and where they are mounted. So to format your sda1, you would 'mkfs.ext4 /dev/sda1'. whether this works the same way in android its hard to say. good luck!
its actually ext 3, you can check this by running the a2sd check in terminal... pretty sure their is no way for ext 4 as of right now.
i did the a2sd using hero_overs rom and method but im not sure if it worked properly.. can anyone plz tell me how i can confirm that i have apps2sd on my phone? i followed all the steps and on the last step after i tped in 'su' in terminal then typed a2sd it showed that lod.. it said things like a2sd installed or w.e. but in the end it said swap partition not found.. so idk if it worked for me..

Swap isn't the same as a2sd, it's basically a drive-space extention of ram, not sure if android can use swap like linux can?
As far as telling if it worked, "ls -l /data" (no " ") and you should see something like "app -> /system/sd" on one of the lines.

When you started the pertitioning process, you chose a 512mb partition size, then you were supposed to choose "OM" for swap size which in turn means that you arent choosing a swap size. So at the end of Terminal Elu's script run, you see'ing " swap partition not found " is normal.... I know that when I installed A2sd, my terminal said the same as yours did. But I do know that it IS working cuz I got Root Explorer and found where my apps are going cuz once you download them from the Market, they dont show up in your apps drawer until you re-boot your phone.....

So when you run the script it moves everything and does what it should? But then you get new apps and they continue to install on internal?

Did you happen to read anywhere that it needs to be run again when adding new apps? Like it only moves them the one time and it's not like a setting that future apps go to sd.

If i understood corectly, I didn't read anything like that but i made the script (via script manager) executable and to run at boot. It should just install in the external without boot or anything else needed.
I read on other forums about other devices that the easiest way to swap internal with external is by modifying your vold.fstab, but the mine is really wierd (I can post it if needed) , it's not like the other peoples devices. Maybe its that way on all SG note 10.1 because no one else has done it on the note 10.1.
Maybe I should flash a new rom? Like omega? I really don't know
So, I understood what I was doing wrong. I had updated the version of my device and the script wasnt compatible with JB. Though I have a quick question for anyone. Now that I used the one for JB and swapped the internal with external when i download a game for example Iron man (which is 800MB) a small part (around 10MB) goes in the internal, that happends with all games (some even take more 15MB or so). Is that normal?
EDIT: Nah, it still fully installs in the internal, swap is still sucessful though, at least it shows so.... Maybe if I can go back to ICS?

How have you rooted?, as on the xa root is only available via unlocked bootloader. If you can't delete system apps you don't have full root with r/w access. Either Sony RIC is still active or your doing something seriously wrong. Is the system mounted r/w if so deleting them shouldn't be a problem.

Zram is already in the stock kernel it was on all lollipop(mid-range Xperias)and I've seen the files while exploring the system with a file manager this device has plenty of ram if that's what you mean.
Adoptable storage has already been done aswell see the thread but it doesn't read the gb of the device correctly it's just a random selection of numbers with a - in front of it.

Kernel seem to have full support but I don't know why you want to increase RAM, XA use zram as swap, you can change the size up to 1Go with a good kernel manager app. I don't know if you can move swap path Look at my screens if it can help you

I hope increase RAM can help a little, but maybe I am wrong :/ Maybe it's depend on CPU..

Yes and no, by default zram is set to 922 MO/1000 on XA...
Hi-end games need a strong GPU like on PC, our Mali-T860 is not very good as mentioned in Antutu. You can tweak CPU governor or I/O scheduler for one or two more FPS and make your phone hotter a little more
Safer way is to tweak the game itself with GLTools app, results are not always good but it can help.
Edit: If you want to answer or have other questions please PM me to avoid off topic or open a new one for device/games tweaks
