radio bands - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

how do i flash a radio band

Buy a new phone?
The Nexus S only supports the bands you purchased it with (IE "T" supports 900/AWS/2100, "A" supports 850/1900/2100)

U can flash a newer baseband by installing from zip in clockwork mod

Android Revolution 4 g compatible?

Hey, im running 3.1 of Android Revolution HD on my new 4g Sensation and I don't seem to have 4g access ever since I've rooted my phone. Beforehand on stock there was a little plus next to my mobile data symbol but now its gone.
The speed test app also showed lackluster results, my download speed was like 534kb while upload was around 700 kb.
I am assuming there is an easy solution to this, maybe turn it on in settings or something. (I just checked the 4g coverage for my area and apparently I have 21 mbps download speeds.)
Thanks in advance for any help you can give!!!
(I am with Bell Aliant in Canada by the way)
May depend on the radio you have installed. Just something every user has to play with. H is also the same thing as 4G with t-mobile. You also cant go according to what they say you can get either. It's all in the hspa+/4G dispute.
Ohhhhh, yes it must be the radio then. Why does the Developer of Revolution HD recomend using the radio listed with his rom? Apparently I lost 4 g access by installing it.
So, by uninstalling it and reinstalling my old radio I should regain 4g access right?
Also, what downfalls are there to using a stock radio?
Thanks!

Not necessarily, the radio that Mike recommends with his ROM is the same radio that is coming with the OTA update from T-Mobile.
I would check to see what your RIL is, I bet it is 162 and you may want to change it to 169 and see if that helps first.
Wouldn't using non-matching ril file cause problems? Can you post the command to check what ril you have for reference please?

Mike's ROM by default has RIL 169 but when it runs the script to see if your phone is t-Mobile 4G or not it changes the RIL to 162 if it is a t-mobile 4G and leaves it at 169 if it is not a t-mobile 4G.
To check to see what RIL you have run getprop "gsm.version.ril-impl" in Terminal Emulator or adb shell and it will print out the RIL version!
Nice. I have 162 but have a tmous 4G sensation. I have the radio in his op so is it ok to run that radio with the 169 ril?

Yes it is, the default RIL in his ROM is 169 and when it senses you have a T-Mobile 4G is switches it to RIL 162. I ran 162 for a while then switched to 169 and am trying it out today.
Cool. Thanks. Will try as well

Flashing radios and backups.

If you create a backup of your phone via clockwork, then flash a new radio and Rom. Then want to restore to the previous setup, do you have to flash the old radio.
How do I know which radio is current. I flashed one radio in my life on the incredible and want gingerbread sense 3.0 Rom but I'm paranoid.

Yes. You have to flash the old radio in hboot to get it back.
How do I know which one I currently have and there's no problem flashing back to a previous radio?

I have been reading good things about the .802 radio. I plan to install my 1st custom ROM along with this radio over the weekend.
Flashing radios on the Tbolt isn't as risky as it was on the dInc. I've flashed back and forth between newer and older radios 3 times in a day. It's a different process, but it's not that scary once you've done it. The link in my sig has instructions and links to all the radios.
Under About Phone/Software/More I have the following information:
Baseband version
1.48.00.0726w_2, 0.01.78.802w_3
I installed the new 802 radio to go with my NonS3ns3 (GB 2.11) ROM via by renaming
(802)PG05IMG.ZIP to PG05IMG.ZIP and installing it.
Did I update the CDMA and LTE radio or just CDMA? Is there a second file I need to install for the latest LTE radio?
EDIT: I little more reading on my part at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048128 and I see that I have the latest CDMA and LTE radios from the 2.10.605.1 RUU
Curious if I should upgrade the CDMA radio to 1.48.00.0817 since its from the 2.11.605.0 RUU.
and I am still curious about the PRI info:
PRI Version is listed as:
1.41_002, 1.64.002
How is this information tied to the radio version?
Thanks for any guidance.

A little help?

Probably the Viper One S ROM isn't based on the TMOUS ROM. TMOUS ROMs show rel.99 3G, HSPA and DC-HSPA as 4G, this is by design/marketing. If it shows 3G when idle and H when active then all is working as intended. Confirm this by getting the speedtest.net app and checking download speeds, anything above 384 Kbps is HSPA.
Look at this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26312897#post26312897
You can extract those 3 images from the RUU or OTA.
In the RUU they are in the rom.zip. In the OTA they are in firmware.zip.
So its the same speeds as always just differenet icon?

Yes, speeds are same just incorrect icons
flashable zip:

[Q] Convert Verizon M8 to International...Is it possible?

Is it possible at all to convert Verizon carrier unlocked M8 to Internation version..to receive updates from HTC outside US?
Currently phone is in global network mode on GSM network in asia. But updates from Verizon are only available on CDMA network.
HTCDev has
One M8 HTC WWE zip 3.4.0 v4.4.2 91.3 MB 1.12.422.19
this file available for download.
My Theory:
1. Install weaksauce and get temporary root
2. Use firewater method to achieve S-OFF
3. Install twrp recovery
4. Flash above zip file.
Will this work?
Another Q:
1. Lets say above method works....will it restore recovery to stock? Because htc updates will only work on stock recovery right?

If you go to the main HTC One M8 threads.. they have a conversion thread for M8 to International.. and if you read it, it says there is no support for CDMA only GSM..
Verizon = CDMA
Sorry.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708589
Imo Scott's roms ie clean rom is closest to stock than stock. You can Soff and still keep its ability in tact and change what u want to as long as you don't change recoveries

I wish it was so I could get some GPE going that has everything working. Really the only big killer for me is not being able to browse the web and be on the phone at the same time.
I just don't understand why the 2 versions of phone are so different. I mean the VZW version can work on an international system right? Doesn't the VZW version version have the same hardware as the other models just not being used? Or just maybe VZW is just a bunch of spoil sports? I'm not sure if which but either way I wish I could convert mine to work with the stock GPE.

Exactly my point. If the hardware is same it should be possible to change the software and convert from Verizon to International.
At least can someone explain why it's not possible? May be any chances in future?
Just curious -> Noob!.... ??

i can only speculate because of verizon's CDMA for Voice and SMS that the international HTC updates won't have the correct radios or bands that work specifically on verizon's band.

What you should do is the following.
Root and S-OFF. Install custom recovery, flash one of the latest rooted Verizon roms from the development section. If you want, flash the radios too.
So, about converting it to international, I'm not 100% sure, but I think the hardware in the Verizon phone is incompatible with the International firmware.

[Q] Can I install a AT&T radio in a Verizon M8 Phone?

Hi, i im a GSM international user, i don't need CDMA, but when i have 4G LTE my phone not switch automaticaly to 3G when i need call or calling me, i m using latest InsertCoin ROM with VZW support. I use the phone in GLOBAL mode. The only way my phone calls works is change the mode to 2G/3G and off the 4 G. The HSPA service off my operrator sucks.
I ask this for i was a M7 Sprint use and if i will flash another no sprint radio the phone will be brick. (the radio partition is in different place in m7 sprint Phone).
Thanks
I'm pretty sure you can only flash Verizon radios on Verizon phones. Any other radios you try flashing will most likely brick it.
As said above, radios are unique for each carrier. Flashing. Any other radio will brick the phone.
