In an effort to try to bring this to the attention of as many WM users as possible. I've already posted this thread to mobilitysite,ppcgeeks.com,WMexperts. So anyway I've noticed this from a few companies so I thought I would bring it up now, especially since the beejive im review for iPhone article doesnt have the comment board for it enabled so ill post my comment about it and more in a thread anyway, why the h*** would a software developer stop developing an IM program that could have such potential and leaving it buggy to the point that its nearly unusable (i cant even login without it crashing)? This is what they did to the windows mobile version and i think its really unfair; all the while the iPhone version is nice and complete and stable, how dare they do this?desgraciados!! and yeah ive already sent them an email with my piece of mind. I've also noticed this with vonage there is an iPhone and BB app for it but, no winmo version. I'm sick of these software developers leaving winmo out in the dust it is so unprofessional.Luckily for wm phones skype is better, and cheaper than vonage so this isn't an issue. any thoughts?

Well my first thought would be that this should be in another forum, not the Development and Hacking forum. Off Topic or General Discussion maybe..
To answer your question, they may have decided to stop development in favor of the iPhone version for some financial reason. Maybe they're getting more money from the iPhone App Store then they were for Windows Mobile. Also judging from the amount of applications for the iPhone, I'm assuming it's easier to develop an application for that platform. Windows Mobile on the other hand is considerably more difficult(again.. an assumption).
They could have ceased development for any number of reasons but in the end it is entirely up to the developer regardless of what the user base may think or want.
Sorry to say it but they really were perfectly within their right, as much as it sucks..
My suggestion: Stop the web-wide rant and try another Mobile Messaging client. I recommend Slick.
Moved as not software release.
& i second Slick
although i really like slick, i dont use it because it doesnt have facebook capabilities. I use palringo, but dont like it. Are there any others out there that do facebook, msn and icq?
I would use that if it had facebook and myspace integration nimbuzz im has this but I don't use that either because it kicks my internet down to 1x and keeps it there regardless of where I am. ironically microsoft makes apps for all other platforms too for example bing
More importantly than anything else, please learn how to type properly on an Internet forum instead of going into one long, un-ending sentence, without proper capitalisations. Your post nearly gave me a headache.
Secondly, you cant call it unprofessionalism. It's upto the developer. If they want to develop it, they will. If they don't then it's not something you can beat them on the head with. You could try requesting them to develop it; possibly even show them some gratuity but not demand it from them.
Honestly, I think you going around the internet across all those forums you mentioned, posting that paragraph of a sentence, is more unprofessional than anything else here.
Stop creating threads for absolutely no reason and mucking up this place.

Oh My Gosh. Please sort your sentences into paragraphs, because it's a nightmare!!!!!!!
Maybe because the demand of iPhone is higher.
And just like the earlier poster said (I just read it now), you are more un-professional then they (software developers) are. Do you have any idea what being professional is?
In many nag lists on negatives on the hd2 (or WM (65)) one mentions the Lack of Applications compared to Android or Iphone.
The challengers argue that the mass of iphone apps are doubles tripples quads.....etc.
in an attempt to make things concrete; Let's list what apps are really missing?
Games with quality
Fun and small games, ex: Angry Birds
Tunewiki
Layar
Wikitude
And a few mores

1. Dropbox

3. Quality fun quick games to play when you're bored.
4. Lots of other things I can't think of right now..
Sports score something that can give u in real time NFL, Baseball, Basketball, NCAA, scores in real time with score boxes etc Sportacular comes to mind
Something to track UPS, USPS, Fedex packages (Deliveries on iPhone for example)
Tip calculator
Something similar to qTweeter where it allows you to update facebook/tweeter
Before anybody calls me an Apple fanboy I love my HD2. I came from an iphone 2g/3G 16 gig and will never go back but it is lacking a few apps!
It really is. I hate how everyone refuses to acknowledge and do anything about this (both Microsoft and HTC). Fact is, I just think either the programming part of it or business part of it just fails to impress any of the programmers. They decided to either do iPhone apps or Android apps. NOW Windows is coming out with WM7, a new way or programs and it's just throwing a wrench into the system of all the past windows mobile phones. Seriously, who monitors this **** and just says "it's ok, do it".
i love my hd2 more than my iphone just because of the big screen... but its lacking of apps is a major letdown...

OP... you are looking at it entirely wrong.. its not about what specific apps it is missing....its about being able to get a specific app at any given time whenever it is that i please.... The Apple Store and Android Open Source Market provides this... Whereas Windows fails sooo hard in that category... There really is no argument... and anyone that defends windows position in this... is either EXTREMELY easily satisfied (like 5 yr old satisfied) or just so blind and ignorrant that they fail to see the obvious truth...
i happen to be one of the users that go onto the windows market and other markets thats surfaced on my hd2 and simply "browse" for cool/ interesting apps that might be fun to check out or play with... I rarely go in with a direct set on initiative to download a specific app... nor do i know of any that does so... its usually browsing the selection.. and that is what we are all talking about... the selection... being able to download something whenever it is we feel like it..
yea??
please don't bring something like this up again in these forums... its bad enough that as a windows mobile user and FAN, you make me go and praise the opposing OS's... but i'm not arrogant to facts... i simply tell it like it is...

There are a couple of these on Marketplace, best one for me being ezytip; more than does the job... Otherwise I agree with everyone else, apps are missing no question about that.
I think ditg asks a very reasonable (good) question. The answers some people come up with are -don't take this personally- pathetic. All I read is there's a lack of games, apps that actually ARE on the market (tip calculator for instance, how many do you want?) and 'and lots of other stuff'. You have to look further than just Marketplace. There are many sites on the internet that offer apps, free or not.
The only real difference as I see it, is that IPhone apps are aggregated to one place namely ITunes whereas WM apps are all over the place though XDA probably comes close to a "marketplace" for WM apps.

you obviously took it a little too seriously... nor did you understand... yes.. i know that i can find app all over the internet.... but what the anroid market and apple store does is offer everything in a convienant location... sure.. call it what you want.. but something so simple like that is a pretty big thing... it's in one simple, easy to access location, organized, and REASONABLY priced... whether it be free or a couple bucks...
its just overall better...

lol if you want to be smart about it.... you did ask for my opinion........
but yea.. try not to take my sarcasm too far... although my initial thoughts and points stay true and valid... i respect your views... but come on... who are we kidding.... although not everything is "black" or "white" if you compare our selection/market to the other OS's, the answer is kinda apparent...
but hey.. to each his own...
The iPhone is a phone and it has it's own operating system, it's own apps and it's own store. Windows Mobile isn't a phone, it's an operating system that a lot of phone manufacturers use. That's why you can find apps all over the internet and not in just one store. I do understand, but I doubt it's a benefit putting apps in one store. Sounds to me a bit like phone-communism .

If you don't like WM you will not buy an HD2.
if you want your lowend user lollypop buy an Iphone.
if you are a though one that like to put your hands in deep s**t to see how thing really works then HD2 is the truth.

Hi all,
Im facing a weird decision... well not weird as almost 50-50 split and it makes me feel queasy .
Should i opt for the Galaxy S (Android) or the HTC HD 2?
The Galaxy S has 1 GHz processor 512 Ram Full HD video recording and a SEXY screen... damn it looked nice in the demo . However (and this does drive me crazy) there is no LED flash. I dont know WHY there isnt but there isnt. God, I hate it when manufacturers do that. They leave out one fiddly feature for no reason whatsoever.
Anyhoo the HTC HD 2 HAS a flash it has WinMo upgradeable to WinMo 7. Snapdragon (I love that name) processor but the Galaxy S out performs it easily in terms of graphics. Should I take the leap into Android (I really really want to see how well it works especially since its got such an amazing developer community) or stick with WinMo and the HTC HD2? I know i havent mentioned many pros of the HD2 but thats because it shares most of them with the Galaxy. To be honest the only pro is that its an interface im familiar with. However, would all of you people who have taken the step from winMo to android tell me whether it was worth it or not?
Thanks

Because WM is a more mature and solid OS with thousand of customizations and free apps, android is immature and young and is not business oriented, also google will be in control of all your data...
All above of course is just my personal opinion
What do you mean google has access to all your data? :S really? they can see my messages and such information? I find that very surprising.
Read Is google stealing things off my phone? thread and make your own conclusions...

In terms of modern UI, stability and handling Android is way more mature then anything WM can offer. Unless you have some mission critical software which only runs on WM there is no sane reason to keep using it. Besides HD2 wont have any official ports for WP7. Android offers a stable, consistent user interface with plenty of customization options out of the box and tons of free available software. Hardly anybody bothers to produce new software for WM, meanwhile the Android eco system is brimming with life. I switched from a X1 which I tried with various custom roms to a Desire and it's just no comparison. If you're not hardcore attached to WM, I'm certain Android is the way better choice.
Google will only have your data, if you're using their mail/messenger/etc. services. You're free to use different ones.

Google has removed once test-apps and I'm certain that isn't what happend in the linked case. If it happens you can be sure to read in the tech news about it and not by somebody with a new account and no posts. That thread doesn't either talk about google accessing and somehow retrieving data from user phones.
Perhaps that link as you mention does not give nothing solid to the question, however, as I clearly mentioned it´s my personal opinion only...

Maybe you'll attract it hard to believe but we are talking about Google. Google for a long time to know a user's search application, Google Maps, where they can see photographs and videos that she has performed. Street View by specially equipped vehicles that feature the world's major cities is not registered as permanent move.
Grounds that they violate the privacy of private life, many times before Street View cars into trouble in some cities people were exposed to even the stony response rod.

I fail to see the point of a bunch of random links, which claim that google has done something wrong and none is related to Android? Do you really think MS isn't collecting massive mounts of data with their internet services as well? In contrast to many other companies google actually has the balls to go out and say that something went wrong, not trying to deny it until there is no other way.
I must say i dont really find those so convincing. So long as they arent collecting PERSONAL information (my contacts, messages etc) and its anonymous and im not getting charged for it why should it bother me? Its just usage information.
Tbh I dont find many things convincing, especially the article about the Traffic hijacking. That has to be the most ridiculous claim ive ever seen. The google bot is very advanced and it can pick out useful information like phone numbers etc. How he can make a claim that showing this information is traffic hijacking done intentionally is ridiculous. I mean doesnt it occur to the author that Google is a SEARCH engine.. part of SEARCHING means getting to the information you want. THe best search engine wouldthen presumably be the one that brings you that information as easily and as quickly as possible :S.
However, you said its just your opinion so thanks for the information but as it stands I dont find it a real threat to my decision on HTC HD2 and the Samsung Galaxy S.
I've only read the first few posts so I don't know if this has already been covered. I've been with Windows Mobile since day one and I loved it until I tried Android on the HTC Evo a month ago. BTW' I had (still do) the HD2 which I bought on a T-Mobile 2-year new contract. I flashed the HD2 with Kumars ROMs (the best ROMs for WM right here on xda). I did a lot of tweaking and installed over 130 apps on my HD2 (both paid and free apps). After an hour with the Evo, I was sold on Android and now I just have to get around to putting my HD2 on ebay. BTW' the HD2 will not be updated to Windows Phone 7 if nobody else has mentioned that here.
The HD2 is nice and slim and feels very solid just like the iPhone 4G (I'm currently testing the iPhone 4G as of yesterday, while waiting on the ATT and Verizon Galaxy versions to come out). The HD2 is a good phone and if you flash it with a ROM like Kumar's, things are pretty good on it but don't looking for the best of gaming on it because the newest and best games aren't there. Also a lot of apps won't be as nice as what you can find on the other OS's. Furthermore, a lot of older WM apps are not easy to use on the HD2 because of the lack of stylus support.
The Evo is as close as you can get to having an HD2 running Android so in other words the Evo would almost be like having your HD2 and Galaxy together. My Evo has been good but it had the raised screen issue (as well as a dead pixel and yellow streaks on white backgrounds). I wanted to just get it exchanged but Radio Shack has been all sold out. So I decided to try the iPhone which I had to jump through hoops to get it mailed to me.......
The Galaxy has a nicer screen technology and looks better so I keep reading. But from what I can see of Samsung, I think I like HTC Sense much better than TouchWhiz. Plus the design looks much better than any of the Galaxy designs as far as I'm concerned. Evo or Galaxy = good choices. HD2 = a dead OS that you'll be happy with for a minute and then you'll regret not having a newer OS.
That was my two and half cents plus tax
Hey guys,
My friend will sell me his playbook for ~$50.
Is there any sense in me buying it? I already have the touchpad (CM7).
Also, for those of you who have it: how do you like it?
Get it and sell it for a profit, you could probably sell it on Craigslist or Ebay for at least $100-ish.
Since you already have a TP, that'd be my course of action.
Yes. As far as I know you can plug it to your TV and watch movies. The interface is similar to webOS which I love.

I got a PlayBook for free through the Android developer 'port' promotion, and I really like the device. It feels great to hold, is a nice size, and has a good screen! I'd buy one for that price. The only thing that lets it down is the apps, there aren't anywhere near as many as on iOS and Android (though there are some), but as a web browser alone it's worth it in my opinion.
For $50 definitely!
I've got one, I'm not really one for playing games etc on it but for work related things its really handy and great for email if you own a blackberry to sync with it.

Same here. Well worth it for fifty though, if you get it and you like gaming you get black pegasus and also asphalt 6 for free, both great fun (in asphalt the tablet becomes your steering wheel).
You can put android apps on if they are repackaged, I forget the sites exact name (think it was mybarapps.com) but there is a site where thousands of popular android apps have been packaged to run on playbook.
Also playbook will be getting the new os bb10 which should make it even better but spec wise its got a dual core cpu and the same ram as the new ipad so its quick and very responsive.
Downside is not lots of apps (good games though inc. Deadspace) but can sideload any android app if you have the apk to repackage which helps, and its been poorly advertised so its not selling well.
But if you don't like it the guys at crackberry should have android ported to it soon so you could install that on it when its available (though to be fair playbook os2 is really good already anyway).
Edit: the site is www.playbookbars.com

My work gave me one to use and it honestly sits on my computer desk at home and is never charged or used. My wife tried to use it one time to read kindle books but it doesn't have a kindle app and it failed to open the books in the kindle cloud reader.
I honestly can't say much that's good about this device other than the size and the multitasking. But the apps in the market are limited and the device itself doesn't do much.
I spend most my time on my Xoom instead. I guess for 50 bucks it would be worth it. I paid nothing for mine and would have rather gotten 50 bucks from work lol.
For 50 bucks...
For 50$ I would buy any tablet, especially when I love the concept of a tablet but haven't bought one yet
Same here... for 50 bucks I'd definitely take it! Decide what to do with it later.
