Hello everyone,
Just bought the 4g and I have a question:
most(if not all) the roms that I came upon was designed for the i9000 and there was no mention for the 4g.
Can I assume that every rom for the i9000 is suitable for the 4g as well? the question is also for every software...
Thank you very much
Alon
To my noob knowledge no I used i9000 rom to brick my vibrant haven't tried any on my 4g I'll just wait for rom buddy before I flash

Do not flash i9000 or a vibrant rom on Galaxy S 4G. doing this will brick your phone and you will end up with a shiny paper weight on your desk!.
thanks for the reply.
what is rom buddy?

Lol rom buddy to my knowledge is not what he said it was. Rom Buddy helps find you game"roms" for your emulator n64,gameboid, and psx.
My setup is
WhiteHawks KD1 Deodexed
Krylons and Drhonks CWM3
Bali 1.4UV Kernal
Gingerbread Theme v7.4
Best of Luck

He was saying rom buddy will only get u games to play. If u want A Rom you will have to download and flash deodexed KC1 OR KD1 then install Bali kernel of your choice there UV AND NON UV(under volt). All links will be found under devolopment. Hope this helps and happy modding.

Uv is undervolted which saves you more battery.
Kd1 is deodexed
its stock but more open to modding
Kc1 is more stable and thats all I know about it

Sorry people but Im still a Noob.... Dumb question time.
I'm Running the stock FROYO 2.2 and was wondering if I could flash any KB1 kernel on it?
For ex:
[KERNEL] stock+Voodoo stable 5.x for Captivate
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870760
[KB1]eXistZ Captivate Kernel #8[28MAR][Voodoo Sound 7, Lagfix & Color][OC/UV]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988805
[KERNEL][KB1]OverStock v1.2 341MB, Voodoo Sound, Color, Lagfix, BLN 3/23/2011
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=989298
And if so, What would be a stable, reliable Kernel? Thanks
Some more info on my phone: Baseband version= I897UCKB1
Build number= FROYO.UCKB1
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Are you stock stock? lagfix? rooted?
Those will all work. being stock the first kernal you flash will have to be a .tar version with the full version of Odin (ensure you have 3 button combo)
My current favorite is Onix. Works great and is very stable. Plus it add UV and OC features. AND gets updates all the time.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=930679 flash the .tar from here, for Onix
Then flash an i9000 modem.
Yup, I'm runnin stock, rooted and have the supercurio voodoo lagfix kernel. But I'm lookin for somthin different that might speed up my phone... I've never done any OC/UV so I'm not to worried about that that much haha
Thanks man

That kernel has clockwork.........so you don't need to use a .tar version.
Use the CWM versions put to the root of your SD and flash with clockwork Recovery
Even if your not into OC/UV the kernal is still great at stock settings.
So its as easy as flashing from CWM?

edit: Sorry, I re-read your last question.
If you choose to run an I9000 kernel then you need to match an I9000 modem to it.
They are a simple CWM flash as well. there is a thread on here somewhere with all the current 2.1,2.2 and I9000 modems in it. Just do a search
Here is the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835272

I have read that others have done it with little success. Any reason why you are holding back from just flashing a full ROM. You are almost there and quite frankly, I think you are safer going with a prepacked ROM over putting pieces together on your own. If you are comfortable with rooting and CWM then you have nothing more to learn to do a full ROM flash. I have never looked back since I first flashed. I've tried several and would say my favorites so far are Serendipity and FireFly. If you want to stay more Stock like, Cognition is also really great stuff.
Ok thanks guys.... Ill look into that

Even with the prepacked roms most people do not leave them alone, and mod and change the guts of them to their taste.
I don't see how learning to change things one part at a time is a bad thing, as you learn how everything works together, and will have a better understanding of it as a whole.
That's true.... but ill look into a rom haha.... hopefully I don't become an addict haha jk

Get something designed to work together first. That gives you an easy start and stability out of the box.
After that, and after making a backup (get a backup right after you root and install cwm, then again after you successfully flash your first rom), you should feel fairly confident in trying out different kernel/modem combos.
Just remember that if you're using an i9000 kernel, you must use an i9000 modem. Likewise if you are using a captivate kernel, you should pair it with a captivate modem (kb1).
Here's an excellent list of kernels and modems and the safe combinations.
And, of course, there's always the modem thread.
Nice! Thanks man

What rom in yalls opinions is the best?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
I just went back to the ICBINB rom with my own custom UOT theme after trying the new gingerbread leak. GB was ok, but ICBINB has ALL the tweeks, and the UV bali kernal for awesome battery life and performance.
When more GB roms come out with tweeks, I'll flash back, but right now, Froyo is doing great for me with icbinb.
As with anything, it's all about preference...
I personally like ICBINB, as I don't use my phone as a music player much... If music via your phone is more you I'd suggest one the audiophile roms, for the sound tweaks that were incorporated in the rom.
Both off these TeamAcid roms have all the latest tweaks available and they're easy to flash, so you can test drive them all then pick the one that best suits you.
Hope this helps!
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
ICBINB is the easiest ROM to flash here and also one of the best, because it already has all the tweaks built in there already.
Then again, if you want to play around with tweaks and stuff more, you can always flash the other ROMs, which are still wonderful.
Really any of them. Theyre all fantastic. Although i would have to say it would be ICBINB, Audiophile, Black Ice, Frost

I would say if you're new to flashing, stay away from Black Ice for a bit, lol. It is still the most difficult ROM to flash out of all anyways. I would say Bionix Frost is really the easiest though. It was the first one I flashed.
I dont know why everyone is getting these problems with Black Ice, i never had one and i loved frost but the white is a battery burner

Yup, I gotta agree with you on that. Black Ice gave me problems the first night, but after careful reading the next day, I flashed it perfectly. Unfortunately, I didn't like the dull look of it, so I went back to Bionix Frost right afterwards, LOL! Bionix Frost would be my second favorite ROM after ICBINB though.
I gotta say ICBINB has done the best for me. It is noob friendly(I'm a noob) and has all the latest tweaks and mods that you need. Also providing insane battery life and smoothness with little to no bugs. ICBINB, thanks to Team Acid, is the best choice at the moment in my opinion! My two cents yo!
My top roms I love;
Black Ice
Trigger 0.4 or 0.5
ICBINB
Audiophile
Of course Whitehawk's deodex kd1

if she is going to be far, then stock rom is best. If she ever has a problem with her phone, she can take it to the cell phone vendor to troubleshoot. if it has a custom ROM, they might not help her.
I'd say stick to stock KD1 rom with root and get titanium backup app, so she can uninstall bloatware and back up her apps.

I agree with you,its best to have stock rom for troubleshooting.
I will install stock rom .
In my experimentation,i found that undervolted bali kernel is giving me nice battery back up.
can i have stock kd1 with this kernel bali 3.3 undervolted.?
When I got this phone a few weeks ago I immediately flashed Black Ice, then went with AudioPhile, for FroYo roms those are the best IMO. Once the 2.3.4 leak came out I flashed that ran it until today with no issues. Flashed the Deodexed kg6 from Whitehawk today and it's been fine as well. Only reason I changed from the leak to this was I felt the urge to flash something new.

Welcome to a new and sick, twisted world
Ever wish you could take one of those nice shiny GalaxyS (i9000) ROMs and flash it to your lovely Infuse? Well now you CAN! Yes, I say GO AHEAD and flash away. With LinuxBozo's magic Hellraiser, you can raise a little hell with any JVQ based i9000 ROM on your Infuse.
How's it work?
Select any JVQ based ROM for the i9000. If you don't know what this is, then this is not for you.
Push your selected ROM to your /sdcard
Download Hellraiser below
Push Hellraiser to your /sdcard
Reboot into Recovery (RED RECOVERY PREFERRED)
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Flash your chosen JVQ ROM
Flash Hellraiser immediately after
Reboot and enjoy your JVQ ROM goodness
PLEASE NOTE: I am not responsible if something goes wrong. Seriously. If you don't flash Hellraiser correctly, you can be left with a phone that needs to be returned to stock with Odin or Heimdall. If you don't know how to do this, this is not for you.
FAQ:
Do I need to disable Voodoo Lagfix?
Nope.
Can I flash JVO/JVP/JVR/JVS ROMs as well?
You should be able to possibly, but I only tested with JVQ. So you are on your own there.
Can I flash i9000 Kernels with this?
NO
Can I flash other Infuse Kernels, like Infusion to get OC/UV?
YES. Neat, huh?
Can I flash i9000 CM7 or MIUI with this?
NO. This will only work with Samsung based ROMs
Can I flash Samsung based Captivate/Vibrant ROMs as well?
This has been reported to work by at least one user. Make sure it's Samsung Gingerbread based.
Which ROM do you recommend?
Which one you choose really is a matter of preference. However, I tested with:
Sensation from Crysis21: [ http://is.gd/D5LJm6 ]
Blockbuster [ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069456 ] (REQUIRES you remove line from updater which auto-reboots)
How does this work behind the scenes? How is this even possible?
What Hellraiser does is flash in appropriate hardware libraries and userspace applications, and the Infuse specific modem (UCKE3) and kernel. This allows the existing i9000 ROM to work on the Infuse all while still thinking it's an i9000, but addressing the Infuse hardware.
Known Issues:
First phone call after a boot will not have sound. Any calls after that are fine. Toggling speakerphone mode seems to fix this immediately.
Using the Market may make data drop if you are not on Wifi. Simply toggling Airplane Mode, and back again will bring data back.

yes darkys 10.2 is 2.3.4. flash either cwm-community voodoo kernel if on froyo or the infused gb kernel for gingerbread. This is to get the preferred RED CWM. Then just flash darky and then unleash the gates of hell with hellraiser.
BTW Darkys Rom does run very well. Everything seems to work perfect and it is blazing fast.

I like ICBINB KD1 the most though. It has all the Froyo tweaks, so it makes everything simple. Get the Sweet ACID Theme by Bl4ckpheniX to make it look more awesome. It's practically the best theme, imo.

Care to share the links? I would guess you have them bookmarked and providing them here would make life easier.
EDIT: Ok I found the Zeus one... I think the question is (or at least this is my question), what is the difference between them? Is it necessary to go through hundreds of pages in two threads to get the answer?
I just loaded Zeus with ICS theme and so far so good. But I also saw the other ROM available (Caty) but I do not understand what the differences are. All of this would be good info posted on the OP of each ROM to avoid having to ask in another thread.
They are posted.... they are significantly built different, although running the same firmware, as in mods and tweaks built in... open both with 7zip and you'll see the massive difference.
