That's not a stock RUU, that's a modified build by ATTN1. It is not signed so it will only work on a S-OFF device.
To be honest, searching here sucks. I sure couldn't find it. The latest full RUU for the Inspire signed from HTC should be (it will need the OTA update to be complete and up-to-date):
RUU_Ace_Cingular_US_1.80.502.3_Radio_12.39.60.19_26.06.04.06_M_release_166557_signed.exe
but good luck finding it.

Thanks for finding that; I've added a bookmark. I searched for that exact name and got 13 pages of hits and after dredging through all 13 pages, I did not find that search term at all. I really don't understand the logic of search engines sometimes.
Edit: weird: when I paste that text, it inserts a space between the 2 and 6 and it appears that this happened in the link you posted too. Maybe that's why I couldn't find an exact match.
Test text-paste: RUU_Ace_Cingular_US_1.80.502.3_Radio_12.39.60.19_26.06.04.06_M_release_166557_signed.exe
Edit 2: it did it again.

TBH I don't use the search here either. But I use google and finish my search term with xda. It tends to do a lot better than the search here

Just flash the shipped stock one and manually check for the update. Thats what i did returning my phone to stock to take to ATT for a replacement.

There's no phobia, it's more of a angry frustration when you type one very specific word into the search box and get 10 pages of "hits" that have absolutely zero relevance. The Bing commercials you see pretty much hit the nail on the head; however, they're no better at solving the problem.
I'm still wondering why XDA splits long words automatically; this surely contributes to the problem when searching for a specific ROM or other long-named file.

Rooting 2.3.3// 4.24.651.1

Latest Rom evo 4g is 2.3.3/4.24.561.1. So I wanted to try a downgrade back to 2.2/4.22.561.2 earlier software, then root it. Then proceed to upgrade back to 2.3.3 and I know for a fact that the software will not show the same, fact! the link below was intresting when a viewer was asking for help, and I had tried but limit the info he/she share until I had told him/her "that you forgot to metiong your phone is ROOTED?" Thats why the app taking you back to the main menu, your not on 4.24.651.1 that was a fix for smoother playback issues?
But to get back to original software I would just upload it to SD zipped and flash it from the recovery menu, I hope I am making sense but the goal is to get 2.3.3 rooted with all of its contents working, wifi teth, 4G, GPS etc; Keep in mind that my device right now is up to date but unrooted. Anyone think possible??
Tried to attach image but not hosted, but original link for the "comment."

I'm using the XDA app, so all I can tell you is that you're in inspire 4G general.
If you're visiting by way of a normal browser the "breadcrumb" forum heading should be up near the top.
I'm not sure I understand what the big mystery is.

[Q] 2.3.3 to 2.2?

I'm a bit confused. I've been reading online for a while, and don't fully understand the ROMs available and what not. (I am a computer programmer, so I'm fairly tech savvy).
Basically, my evo shift has 2.3.3. I did a factory reset hoping it would back down to 2.2, but it did not. Now, I'd like to install 2.2 so I can root my phone. Is there a way I can do this? I've also seen a few roms (ie: evervolv) that are rooted. How can I install these (i'm using a mac).
Also, what do you guys recommend? Should I install a ROM, downgrade to 2.2 (how?) and root, etc?
Thanks!
You cannot downgrade to Froyo.. Sorry. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1218580

You can only temp root right now with 2.3 on the Shift. A factory reset just wipes everything and basically gives you a clean OS...it's like getting a new phone. The good folks at HTC should be releasing the the source code and kernel between now and EOL of the phone.

When ppl aren't sure what they are reading they have to ask. It may seem stupid to ppl who aren't new but to someone new, I can see it happening, especially if they don't want to brick their phone!
just my 1.5 cents worth
Yeah, I've read lots. I posted because it's good to have clarification.
I've read that you cannot "downgrade" to 2.2 from 2.3, but that doesn't necessarily answer my question if I can flash a 2.2 ROM..
I know 2.3.3 isn't rooted yet, but that doesn't necessarily mean I can't flash a ROM with an older, rooted version (very common in modchips for gaming systems.. If the company releases an update, you can usually re-flash the chip to the old update and be good to go).
So, it seems that if my phone is 2.3, my *ONLY* option is to temp root, is that correct (impossible to reflash, reprogram, etc)?

You need root and recovery (or the old hboot) in order to flash anything. So yes, until a new root method is found your only option is to temp root.

Typically any Official update will break #SU access and sometimes cause a serious headache in the process.
If you are rooted, do not apply the update. Just wait for a kitchen baked variant to be released.

maybe fixes visual voicemail bug?
For about 6 weeks I've been having issues with the stock visual voicemail app force-closing every time I tried to use it. I tried going into the app's settings area and clearing its data, then re-enabling it in the caller app, all to no avail.
I just installed this update and it looks like my VVM is working again, so I'm hoping this was indeed a known issue and was fixed.
(FTR, I'm not sure that a factory reset before the update wouldn't have fixed the problem, but I didn't feel like re-installing all my apps so I let it go and just used the old-school voicemail number for a while.)
Is there anyway possible for me to get the update because i had s-off and then i wanted to unroot but i used gfree so i had to use gfree and ran into a crap load of problems leaving me right now with s-off and no root permissions . i need to get a new mytouch because this one randomly restarts and i cant send in one with s-off... can anyone help me out?

Is there anything in this radio other than a new radio and new hboot?
I'm s-off via engineering bootloader, NOT gfree. Is it worth the trouble to use gfree so I can ruu and stay s-off, accept the update, then flash clockworkmod recovery via bootloader, then go back to cm7?

Yeah, thanks saw that, so its basically a search on Moto servers for updates? Thanks for the info btw!
project cheesecake allows us to change what server we check for updates on, allowing us to pull them from not only the standard production server, but also development ones not usually available to the public.
nothing douchey about reading and searching instead of waiting for someone to give you the answer. the reply given could have been found by you doing some legwork.
So where do you go about checking the servers, can you give me links or something? (i did search for this and couldn't find what i needed)
