Today, Microsoft announced a new fall release of Windows Phone 7. I think it looks really cool but I just can't bring myself to give up Windows Phone 6.5 because nobody has topped it as far as capabilities and functionality yet. So go ahead and leave your opinion below.

Do you think it would be logical to release Windows 7 with Windows Mobile 7 together. Windows 7 probably will be release in summer 2010. I think Windows Mobile 7 will be also out in 2010. Also I remember Mobile 5 was released in 2005.
I'm typing this on Windows 7 right now, and it's already more stable than Vista was after more than a year of being released. Seeing as Release Candidate 1 was released recently, the final product doesn't seem to far away to me.
My copy of Windows 7 build 7000 self destructs on August 1st, making me think that they're nuking my copy so I won't be using it after the final product is released. And seeing as the back to school computer sales are always good for PC manufacturers and Microsoft, I'm sure they'll want to get it out by then, so they can catch the Back-to-School crowd and the Holiday shopping crowd later on.
Plus, I believe Microsoft was proposing some offer to give customers a free Windows 7 upgrade if you bought a Windows Vista computer during the summer of 2009. That makes me think that Win7 is just on the horizon. As for WM7, I don't think that it will be ready until at least 2010.
So I personally don't think they'll be released together because I think it would be stupid on Microsoft's part to delay an already stable desktop OS that they so desperately need to release, just so they can release its mobile counterpart at the same time.

I don't know. The Microsoft is loosing market share in mobile world now as never before. They must to make something that will bit iphone and android with palm. Plus I don't think that Microsoft able to ship Windows 7 soon because Vista had the same story. If they offer the free upgrade to 7 this summer, so probably Windows won't be ready until than. From using Windows 7 i can say it better than Vista, but it is still not perfect. I think Microsoft will take their time and make a good OS, because the rush with Vista didn't lead to anything good.
P.S. Also as in Windows 7, Windows Mobile 7 will have multitouch (hopefully).
Well the Windows7 is nothing else then completed Vista! Vista was planned and started to programmed to have most of the Windows7 futures but as usual MS has screw up big time on timeline.. Computer sales Slash down tremendously as many consumers were waiting for Vista and MS were losing huge money. However MS kill few of the responsible VP's get new one in and the conclusion was just release first whatever is there!!!! As a old saying: IN ORDER TO MAKE CHANGES YOU NEED SURVIVE FIRST
Regards to WinMo.. In fact WinMo phones has increasing market share compare last year’s numbers. Not that much as Blackberry followed by Apple but they all taking share from the symbian away.
Indeed the biggest enemy of Microsoft is Microsoft itself!!! The Internal divisional Political wares prevent them to move fast as suppose to.
Until this year The WinMo division has been treated like a step child and not really put full attention on it. The appearance and success of Iphone, Google’s releas android have shaken few things up in Microsoft.
Now Microsoft has smell blood and wants to make the WinMo more than a simple phone. Changes in marketing (advertisements) ; Widows live and additional services indicating it very much. However said that again back to where I started and that is: the biggest enemy of Microsoft is Microsoft itself. Remember Vista suppose to be released in same time as the Microsoft office...
On the contrary I believe many existing Software companies are happy that Microsoft is as it is! In fact if Microsoft would really do perfect job and release complete software as it suppose to be then I guess 50-70% third-party software companies would be closing down
totally indipendant and will not be released together...would be a marketing nightmare as well as total confusion.
Microsoft stated that 2009 will be 'the year of windows 7' and 2010 'the year of windows mobile 7'. Might be they said 2010 and 2011, but I'm a 100% sure Mobile will be released a year after normal.
I don't have a link, but i read this in an article about 2 weeks ago.
It's been a while since we've heard a peep about Adobe's Flash 10 for smartphone initiative, but according to a slide from its Q2 Fiscal Year 2009 earnings presentation, the platform's on track for a beta release this October at the company's MAX conference. Prime mobile OS candidates for the beta include those from Adobe's Open Screen Project, which at last count included Nokia, Palm, Google, and Microsoft -- and unless there's been some behind closed doors meetings, the two glaring omissions on that list are still gonna be bugging you come this Halloween.

"On October 5, Adobe did what Microsoft’s own Silverlight team still has yet to do: Pin a date on when it will bring its ad/video-display plug-in to Windows Mobile....."

My mates a Silverlight developer (for mobiles too!) and he told me the other day that Silverlight for WinMob had been pushed back to be bundled as part of WinMob 7. He did say that there is no reason it won't be released as an installer before then but it will be a good few months.
He said it was orginaly planned to be in 6.5 but obviously, didn't make it in time.
Of course, what he's been told could turn out to be Chinese whispers..... pinch of salt anyone?
According to it seems, certain to char them with some sponsors of Microsoft like HTC or NVIDIA are developing that is not expected any greater update of the Windows Mobile system until the Movable World-wide Congress of next year...

Well it's been delayed so many times...who knows
I've read today that it would be available for hd2 in November 2010
Yeah, I read that and as you say who knows
Anyway, here´s the info I got today, let´s see what really happens...
Cheers galaxys
My thoughts to this are that Microsoft knows that this is there last chance so if everything isn't up to speed, they will keep delaying. However this strategy will eventually back fire as avid WM fans are becoming impatience.
Absolutely disgraceful if true. There's no reason why a massive company like Microsoft should not be able to put out a high quality mobile OS platform by 2010 considering all the time they have had and the reported size of the development team.
Yeah this is getting crazy. Hurry up MWC...

Yeah, I feel you. I've been running Android on my Rhodium for a few weeks, and although it's a pretty early port and many features don't work properly yet, I still prefer it to Windows Mobile's slow release schedule and sub-par performance. I used to be a die-hard WM fan, but M$ has really let their users down, and let their phone empire collapse around them. I'll highly consider buying an Android handset when my contract expires ~2 years
interesting article about WM 7....

Does any one know when the windows mobile app that cotulla was making will be released?
He's got WP8 on the HD2 so possibly got distracted? Lol the man's a genius
Sent from my HD7 using Board Express
there sure isn't enough of that guy and his mates to go around, if its ready for public use im sure they will release it, although to put it in perspective we never did get the WM 5 ROM on the Alpine that we saw the videos of, again, im confidant that if it was ready for public use then it would have been released.
time will tell im sure!
Yea, I was waiting for this too. And created a thread about it with some images a while back. Watch his twitter page, he does a lot of updates there and if you ask on there about it, he might ping you back (like he did with me). Try not to ask about release dates, if I am correct, isn't it against XDA policy to ask when a dev is releasing something ?
I just grabbed a old Touch Pro 2 for like $20, and it uses the same batteries as my Trophy, so I just boot it up when I need it..
Didn't see it mentioned so thought I would throw a link down here,

Apparently the VLC guys are doing a Kickstarter, even if you don't donate (I gave them a few quid) - still worth keep an eye on it.
They said they're going to go Windows 8 -> Windows RT -> Win Phone 8 and the initial timeframe was 3 months so not that long.
It has definitely been mentioned (in 5 threads on this forum alone; do a search before posting, please) but I agree that backing it is likely a good idea for Surface.
I backed this project, They have reached there goal now so I hope to see an app for windows RT some time in the future.
Looking forward to this. They've got my support.
