[Q] Should i use XTC Clip ??? - HTC Desire S

I'm tired of waiting for a software S-OFF. There isn't even any news of progress on Sensation or IS forums. I reaalllyyyy wanna try out the LBC sense 3.0 ROM. Should i wait till a software S-OFF comes or should i go to the nearest shop that has XTC Clip and get it S-OFFed from there ? Can anyone tell me EXACTLY what XTC Clip does, and how to use it?

xtc clip make it s-off, can also root, search google
you go to the store, give him 10$ or something, and let him do his job.
what to do? its your choice, i don't understand what you expect to hear, you know the facts, your disition

XTC clip is a communication device that connect to a HTC phone on a very low level (that's why it communicates through SIM card adaptor) It is a way HTC originally used to lock/unlock their phones - but it has been reversed engineered specifically to unlock...
But back on your original question: YES, get unlock

Yeah, i'll probably be better off going to a local shop. Mumbai is quite far off........... I just wanna know if it's safe and any disadvantages it has.

Irreversible. That's all. ._.

i have a question too
does it void the warranty? some people say it does & some say it doesn't im a bit worried about the warranty part

Alpharev x beta

Hey guys i've just seen that the public beta has been released on the beta page. Has anyone tested this on the desire s?
Its not supported is it? I couldn't see the Desire S. Gutted again
I will be testing it in a bit and report back.
God speed, good sir.
not yet
[23:31] <lookpo> hi all, have a question, can I test alpxarevx with HTC Desire S ?
[23:31] <gu1dry> con247: if you have S-OFF, you can already do that, if you don't know what fastboot will do for you, you really don't need it
[23:31] == Eryxon [[email protected]/web/freenode/ip.217.197.250.174] has joined #alpharevx
[23:31] <gu1dry> lookpo: it's not available for the DS at this time
Well, They never tested it for DS... but the thing is that it installs another HBOOT... and its not a DS one? but maybe it will soff and then we can update it for one that is? i dont know how exactly it works
use another hboot on your device and you can already go and buy a new phone
only thing would be maybe replacing their hboot img with our eng s-off hboot

Does anyone know if there's any mileage in this.
Anyone tried ?
Thinking about it there would be no way of getting a working beta key, which the program asks for.
well nexus i don't know if it would work, it was just what i thought and what MAYBE could work even if i think myself it won't work
too bad it's not working. Now time to look for XTC clip here.
the shroud of denial has lifted, time to realise us desire s owners have got the short end of the stick. XTC clip ordered.
sigh.............
Yeah It's time to look for an xtc clip. that's the only way to s-off our DS.
relax! it's only a beta. I was just curious when i asked. Don't you think you should wait for the proper release before you go ahead and spend a lot of money on an xtc clip?
pay and go amigo, it's the future and much cheaper
how does pay and go work? Yeah you're right I think xtc clip is the only last hope for us to s-off our device
expecting mine in the post tomorrow so will let you know

It works exactly like an XTC Clip however the only difference is that the PCB is red and that it works with top-ups.
The top-ups enable unlock/s'off and you get unlimited gold card creation
A cheaper alternative.
The DS and Inc S is almost identical in specs. So I've always thought anything that has been developing for IncS can also be done to our DS.

Orange Branded Senseation

Guy at work got the Orange branded Sensation today - I noticed it was S-On - I guess new models aren't coming out S-Off'd? are HTC rolling out updates to remove it in the near future, or will they release a dev tool to s-off perhaps?

My mate has sensation on t-mobile as well. I'm gonna check the forums to see if both networks have signal problems like vodafone uk.

From what i saw they'd changed the boot anim, the shut down anim, the mail app, the internet app (or at least buggered around with it) installed a few random apps like 'my orange' and that's about as much as i've seen so far...
let me know if there's anything specific you want me to find out..

That's enough Orange crap on the ROM to convince me to upgrade via Carphone Whorehouse, unless by some miracle someone comes up with a way to debrand it within the next 5 days...
Lots of crapware added...
some orange apps, the orange account one is useful, the rest rubbish. There are paid ones, like Maps, traffic etc, and also 4-5 rubbish games, a MSN messenger which only works on 3G and not WIFI, etc...
In short the usual Orange ****up!
Cant wait for the unlock, to slash and burn through this mess!

Definitely CPW for the upgrade, they only stock unbranded handsets so its where I got mine from
Was gonna do the same, esp since my local CPW guys are really great, BUT they can only do standard upgrades, whereas you always get a better deal by calling orange retentions direct. And they only send you direct from Orange stock, I asked if I could pick it up from CPW or even the local Orange shop, and they said no, it has to be posted.
In the same postion myself, due my orange upgrade, but dont want the crap. However i cant use carphone whare as they wont do a standard orange upgrade for me - as i still get free home broadband from my old orange contract i dont want to loose that!
But does anyone really believe that orange/tmobile will allow the htc updates in aug/sept to allow s-off - i for one suspect they will not allow this.
I will prob take the upgrade from orange, ebay it new and buy network free from elsewhere.

I doubt very much that Orange will allow s-off on their handsets. They are branded for a reason, and that reason is to **** people off. I only got the Desire once I was certain that it could be de-branded, and getting that Orange crapware off of it was the best thing I ever did to the phone.
I would have to be offered a very good deal to accept an Orange branded handset again, especially if it couldn't be de-branded, and at the moment it looks like the Sensation can't.

Sim Unlock Desire S

Any way to sim unlock the desire s for free?
Its possible on both desire and desire hd, and I don't think alpharevx does it alone.
Have you been here?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943726
S-off has nothing to do with sim lock.
Ah right, thought s-off meant sim unlock as well.
Does that desire tool work for the desire s? Has anyone tested that? Don't want to brick my phone or anything!
Im in the same boat! The thread seems to specify it is only for the htc desire, however I have not read the whole thing...
Any information would be helpful, thanks!

costs £12.99
http://www.unlock-htc.com/unlocking-HTC-Desire-S.php
although you may find cheaper just google it
Yes I understood too that 'S-off' would also remove the network simlock.
Has anyone had any experiences with the above unlocking service ?

I enter my IMEI and it says £19.99, cheaper places around
The problem with these unlocking sites is that they need an awful lot of information about your phone in order to give you the correct code. Unfortunately all of this information is a gift to the less scrupulous who will do anything to get hold of this information in order to clone your nice shiny new smart phone.
Beware!

Best way for Sim Unlock?

Hi as title says what is the best way to get sim unlock on a Desire S?
1-xtc clip
2-get code from provider if possible
3-is there a one click solution like for the Desire HD or an app like for the Desire?
4-is there another way other than the ones listed above,as taking to a shop obviously cost money and I don`t want to spend anything
Thanks

On further reading does s-off using revolutionanary sim unlock the phone or am I reading this wrong?
A simple explanation please for my pea-brain to take in
Thanks
Anyone..............?
Revolutionary will not sim unlock the phone. The only way for sim unlock is xtc clip.

Why? HTC has 2 years warranty and will do it for free till the next MAY at least. If you request it NOW, it's unlikely they'll ask for a proof of purchase (they didn't ask me)
So your warranty isn't void then?
I wish there was a good equivalent in my area of the US.

I know that but if you're s-off (most people on here are) your warranty is void and u can't send it to HTC. I know its possible to s-on and get back to stock but that's tricky and many don't want to go through all that

oh really! i might try that but not sure if its worth the risk.. cos they still have every right to just say that the devices warranty is void, then refuse to fix it and charge you the £30.00, or whatever it is, to send it back to you.

And for the record, many Sensations did ship from the factory with S-off. So they have no possible way to prove you did it yourself.
Plus it's probably more expensive for them to argue about your software changes when you send in a hardware problem than it is to just fix the hardware problem. Especially since it's a known hardware problem that HTC fully admits to.
That said, there are numerous stories of people who've sent fully rooted phones to HTC with custom ROMs installed to have hardware problems fixed and the phone came back repaired just fine.
Does anyone know how long it takes to get your phone back from the time you send it to them?
In the Netherlands HTC has repair partners all over the country. I went in one of the shops and 1 hour later they called that my new screen was installed. Did not ask anything or check my phone.
I would assume that sending in a phone for this problem wouldn't matter if you're rooted since software can't get dust under your screen.

Rooting means you can mess with your clock speeds, messing with your clock speeds means you could have overheated it, overheating means distortion, distortion means gaps, gaps mean dust... Shall I continue?
Why give them ANY chance to be idiots and to refuse repair?

Esecailly since it's so incredibly easy to flash a stock ROM before sending it in which would mean they'd never notice something wasn't stock.
Yeahthe aftermarket recovery might still be there and it might be S-Off but I doubt the guy sitting at his desk fixing 25 phones a day is goign to notice those things when he's replacing a screen gasket to seal out dust. Now if he booted it and it said CYANOGENMOD and lacked Sense, it might stand out to him...
Also, did anyone know the answer to my last question? About how long it takes to get a phone back from HTC with the screen dust issue repaired? I'm in the USA as I assume where you start from makes a difference. Like the post above that says in the Netherlands there are shops that will fix it in an hour...I don't think I can do that here.

minus the shipping to get there (which you can change) for me its been about 3 days from them receiving it to them having it in repair to them getting ready to ship, dont know though if the screen is repaired but i did mention it as one of many things faulty with the device
This problem also started to develop on my phone. I wish we have repairs stores around the area I live (I also live in the US).
One question, do I have to pay for the shipping fee to ship the phone to them?

yes you do
also and this very important, ship it in a box specifically made to ship small electronic items (was going to shiping it in something else) as they can void your warranty for breakage when shipping, thankfully i was told that before shipping the actual device so there was not much a problem...
