I ask, mostly because of texts. I am one who never deletes my old texts, so I have quite a many thousands that I want to migrate from WM6.5 to WP7. Please don't flame me. I know MS hasn't released the API stuff and Mango, but I have to ask here just in case someone has figured out a way? I tried google'ing exactly how I have it worded in the title, with no hits.

There are zillions of apps and ROMs and stuff here on XDA-dev. Some are buried in forum threads going back years.
I quite like to browse through software and fixes just to see what's there, and in the forum format it's really difficult. Anyone think it would be good to drag all the software into a common, browsable location? We don't need all the threads of people saying that they are downloading now, or the development process of new versions, just the latest version and a description with a screen shot.

I'm sure I posted something similar a couple of years ago, maybe I just thought it, not sure. Either way, this would be awesome. There was a ROM a while ago that had a built in program for getting updates for programs and new programs, can't remember what it was called; what happened to that? I think it was a Hermes ROM.
Is the Microsoft Marketplace an option, or are there costs/hassle involved with listing free stuff on there?

that's just to keep some apps updated, not to install new ones.
and the reason for not using microsoft marketplace is because 1: it needs to go through microsoft first and 2: it costs money to get your app there.

I think you're thinking of Pocket Download Manager. You can download it seperately from the ROM, but you have to register it (for free though).
Also, an XDA-Developers App store has been done many times. There was Pocket Download Manager, Jak Portal (which became OpnMarket), Gecko (now defunct it seems), FireSale (Gecko successor, also Defunct). It seems only the first 2 are actually still active, but IMO OpnMarket is the most promising.

The client update link is visible, but if you pres it you get the same "update?" BS.
So... Microsoft, if this is your attempt to funnel people toward WP7 BEFORE it's as usable, or *customizable* the current versions of WM devices, then by all means go f**k yourselves.
I'll be a Droid user if this is the game they want to play.
With that being said, if anybody has a useful work-around that DOES NOT involve the incredibly ****ty m.bing.com site then by all means, I would appreciate it.

Well I never liked bing and use the google maps preloaded with my device. What features are you looking for that google maps doesnt have, then people could help you out better. Most people dont use bing except for movie listing part.

It seems by your theme that you're still using WM6.1. You may want to update to a 6.5 ROM.
I'm just preparing to swith into Android. I'm pised off with that WM crap... ;/
Moved as not Software release.
I had been using it mainly for local searching, movie times, and gas prices.
And yes I am still rocking an old WM6 ROM on a Kaiser.
But still, why just stop supporting it all together? That's pretty disloyal to the same people who have been loyal to them.

BING app stopped from working

I have encountered the same problem with the Bing app running on my at&t TILT. Have you gotten any more feedback, how to correct this problem? Like I mentioned, I'm running a TILT w/WM v6.1 and I'm really not in any mood to go thru the 'possible' upgrade to v6.5. I'm not a graet fan of bing, but the mobile app was perfect for getting info when quickly needed. I will not run the browser version.

It will come in time. Windows mobile can backup their sms's into the cloud. I imagine this will come to wp7 as well.

Well, u would think after almost a year, you would think that someone would have come up with one. I don't even know why previously software companies didn't do yet, its a cash cow. So I get it, but someone didn't get it done yet.
Folks, the myphone cloud storage that WM had will be coming to Windows Phone. Its just not there right now.

The funny thing is that HTC recommends people to search marketplace and I have caught them on this and they keep throwing out crap suggestions because they don't want to unlock the boot loader as promised by Peter Chou back in may... This whole thing is a scam and the FTC and FCC should look into..

Please don't recommend me IM+ or Miyowa as they are both pretty bad for my taste or they don't work as intended (either laggy or a bad layout, or not easy to use)

There is no official app because it is built directly into the OS with the Mango update.

Is that an official update that can be downloaded through Zune? I have the latest updates on my HTC 7 Pro through Zune when it asked to update my phone about 5 times.

Obviously not, But I thought rather bump old posts I make a new one that's more up to date with whether MSN exists for WM7 yet as of this day. To be quite frank I think this is a better idea, in my opinion.

Did you really think that Microsoft will not spam and force its live messenger on is? I won't be surprised if they reserve one whole live tile in front for its hotmail and messenger on front screen which you can't remove .. Just like its useless bing search button which is nothing more than a shortcut to bing search webpage after the upcoming mango update. A whole one big ass dedicated key just a short cut to a webpage.

You do realize that live messenger is the largest chat service in the world right? Also its paired with facebook chat which is the third. So no, Microsoft isnt forcing anything on you, they're just using whats already the most popular.

No, they are not. Open IE, go to www.google.com, search for what you want with google. There's even registry hacks to change the default IE search to Google. BTW, WP7 is a MS product so it will have MS products integrated just like Android has Googles stuff & iPhone has Apple's stuff. I have found so many guides on how to move SMS messages from the iPhone to an Android Phone so I was wondering if there is any way to do the opposite. I have searched a lot and haven't much, the latest answer being from early 2010. Being that its the end of 2011, I wanted to know if someone developed anything for it. I currently have a Samsung Captivate and plan to switch over to an iPhone 4 and it would be a HUGE help if I could take my text messages and everything with me. I know AT&T will move contacts over but I'm not sure if they are capable of moving texts.

It is too late to reply but currently Backuptrans Android SMS to iPhone Transfer do this. Hope this can help other users.
