Hey guys,
I am in the process of trying to build a custom kernel for the incredible S, but as it happens HTC have only released sources for the Froyo version, not the Gingerbread version
In my quests to find the changes need to upgrade this kernel to run on 2.3, I am building a kernel for the Saga,as the Desire S was released with 2.3 the sources should be as well.
Anyway, long story short. I have a custom kernel for the saga, with an overclock available and it is quite easy to port all the other features I have added to my kernel without the video / camera problem (assuming this is the 2.3 source, which it looks like it should be), and I see you don't have any custom kernels, is anyone interested in testing?
hi mate, im developin a custom kernel as we speak but yh wudnt mind testing urs... u use the saga 2.6.35 kernel source code?
Sorry didnt realise someone was already on it. Yeah I am using it cause I think it has the changes I need in the board files, and I accidently overclocked it by editing the wrong files. If.you want I can speak to you about what changes you wanna make so you can start devving it on your own
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using Tapatalk
lmao wat u sayin sorry for this forumn needs all the attention it can get. wel am already workin on one but why dont u sort that one and ill test it for u am sure itl help u when the incredible s has released.
Iv played with the desire the dhd and ds.....hows the dhd compared to incredile?

Well done dude !!! I've been following your quest for root and S-OFF on the IS forum, no one here is trying for S-OFF. Our best bet is someone like you porting an IS or Sensation exploit. I'm S-On so i can't test. But since the saga (DS) and IS have the same processor, i'm assuming this goes up to 1.8 Ghz too. Correct me if i'm wrong.
When will be a download link i will test the kernel.
i was wondering if it will work with a Desire kernel? can i try a desire kernel or is a bad ideea?
i miss cifs
trying a desire kernel is a very bad idea mihaibuda u must wait for a desire s kernel
send you a PM dude
OK Doesn anyone know how to flash a zImage? If not, if someone sends me a boot.img from the stock Desire S ROM I can pack it up into an update zip

It is a GPL violation then ... ?
Anyway, good to see that custom kernels are coming
GPL actually says that the source code has to bereleased within reasonable time...what that time is noone knows...

Cool beans.
magic dream n hero kernel source !!
fun time
woot
about time....this is great news
Does this mean that we can finally get bluetooth working in the Hero ROMs?
+1
Me want blutuuut
Well Certaily this is something only a developer could answer.
Hello anyone...
Me Likey Bluetooth...
To my knowledge, we were waiting on the sense ui from magic, not hero. If we get the sense ui from magic then it can be ported to dream with working bluetooth.
Yes... it's a link to the HTC Developer website... not that most developers don't know when things like Kernals going up happen...
Se can anyone actually explain what does this mean for us simple and humble peasants ... pardon users...
@axlastro
I'm also curious to know what this means for the future of HERO ROM's, if anything...
This is exciting news indeed.
Backport BFS time.

Bug Fixing, customizations, and security mainly. Also brings forth the possibility to get around security locks on apps and such(htc widgets) not this in particular but a source code in general.
When SenseUI Sapphire comes out it will most likely have a new kernel.
We need to request it!
This has been out for about a month and won't really help us much. The HTC kernel source tree was always available via git so HTC providing a link on their website doesn't change much.

That's not true. This code was not publicly available, eg. we did not have board-hero.c.
Does that mean we can port Hero's flash onto Dream?

No. Hero flash is a plunging for the browser which, correct me if I'm wrong, relies on the HTC framework. I believe there are other libraries and quagmire that only hero have making it necessary to have a hero Rom. Just be patient. By early to mid 2010 we will have our Android flash beta. That's completely off topic but the answer nonetheless.

I think your direct link might be the wrong one if that's so... the URL you included was the one for the Tattoo/Click, and I think you meant the Legend one?
(I'm a new user, so I apparently can't include the actual link )
Thanks for the pointer.

Heres the direct link to the Aria Kernel
Just read the article on HTC releasing source codes for aria kernel...
http://phandroid.com/2010/08/11/droid-incredibles-and-evo-4gs-2-2-source-code-released-by-htc/
For us Android noobz...what does suggest/mean?? Smoother bugless ROM cooking? Better and cleaner 2.2 build?
maybe a possible OC? i read several places they needed the kernel to customize it? i'm not sure.

The aria kernel in the stock 2.1 Rom is very old so it may not be that much use to CM-6 Liberty
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
Sources are up at HTC
developer.htc.com/
does this mean an overclock kernel is possible?
i will make one tomorrow
Sweet! I hope 710Mhz will work as good as it did in CursorSense running Android 1.5
gonna try and lets see gonna need it tested for sure
Can this kernel be used with a 2.2 ROM? It sure would be nice to have 2.2, the new radio and a fully working camera all at once
no forget it on 2.2 to fix cam, wont happen, android 2.2 needs atleast .32

If it's not too much to ask, could you make one that works with the stock ROM? I never got around to switching to RCMagic and the rooted stock one is stable enough for me to postpone the switch.

If I'm not mistaken I think it will work on all custom ROMs that has the official 2.1 as base.
yes once it will compile proper for me
Any luck with compiling capy?
You will find 710OC kernel in other thread but the wifi is not working.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=778083
sorry i posted it in the other thread wifi is missing but gonna try fix that got some help on how to cause htc didn't include the driver but it runs smooth at 710mhz i made flash no wipe update
Sweet! Good work Lets just hope the wifi is fixable then.
it is and i will do it
nice someone add openvpn and compcache

HTC has nothing to do with the ti lan driver, the source is available always has been, compile with the kernel or compile pointing to your fresh compiled kernel and it just works (unless the board file is messed up(fu htc) ).
I just got it compiled and everything works first try on your rom, i'll send you the files.
thx man appriciate it
nice rom btw, even though i hate sense lol
sorry if there is an exact thread just like this, imagine there is but i wasnt able to find it. i just got my inspire today im familiar with android phones but i know the phone just came out so im wondering if someone can walk me through this, from what i understand ill need to root, flash the cyanogen7 rom then flash a kernel that will allow me to have sound. i was wondering which kernel i would need and what is the easiest root method currently available. thanks for the help guys!!
edit: there is no modified version of this with a different kernel that will allow us to flash the inspire kernel and make sound work??
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=917271
There is not a CM7 for the Inspire yet. I can't wait until there is tho, I'm not a fan of Sense... but making due for right now.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
i thought you could install any desire hd rom, there is a cyanogen7 rom for the hd right here. and just flash a kernel over it to get the audio working. or am i wrong?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=917271
cyanogenmod has its own kernel that's made specifically for AOSP. A normal sense kernel will definitely not work for it. It is cool though, I flashed it for a few minutes and it's wayyyy quick with the 1.51ghz kernel they have on there, too bad we don't have source to get sound yet
Yeah just played around with it. Superfast. Love all the gingerbread stuff too. Tried fladhing those kernels the phone wont boot
bump, i see people posting modified versions of cm7 for dhd do they have different kernels that would allow the sound to work on our inspires?

Yes, yes they do.
Check out the android development section. There is a working kernel for sound on CM7 and I'm using it right now.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Now that we have an unlocked bootloader, we can get some real work done.
We already have a "custom" kernel for AOSP ROMs (ie. SuperOSR) that has an added CPU governor and tweaks to get it to boot. However, I personally prefer Sense ROMs and some of the apps that HTC include.
I've tried getting a kernel to compile myself, but the source from htcdev.com doesn't compile for me, and when I use SuperOSR source, I either get loads of glitches on Sense ROMs, or it just doesn't boot after I try modding the CPU values.
So I'd like to politely request if someone could possibly compile a kernel that works with stock Sense ROMs with some added features (a few examples of possible features here, and maybe some basic additions like a slight CPU overclock [this is where my compiles refused to boot], swap, BFS CPU scheduler, additional I/O schedulers, and any other performance-enhancing tweaks).
Developments like this would guarantee to get us out of the Legacy & Low Activity Devices section and back onto the main board
ooh i wish to have developments on chacha, im a flasholic ..every couples of hours i check the threads if there is somthing new, the development is so slow due to limited numbers of developers that have chacha that are working on it and realy big thanks and respect of those developers for their efforts,i wish if i was a developer to help .hmm can we seek for other phones developers(as sensation or cyanogenmod) to have their help and support in developing kernals and custom roms or tweaks for the little chacha ? is it difficult to ask help ? i can join the team as beta testers
