Video for Rooting - Verizon Droid Charge

If there is someone who can post a video for rooting the Charge, I would greatly appreciate it.
There is nothing worse then getting a new phone and bricking it. Well, having my wife yell at me and tell me, "I told you not to mess it!" is worse! So to avoid that conversation and having to bring it back, it would be great to see a video on it.
I am a noob with rooting and any help would be great.

LOL!!! I'm in the same boat. I bought my Samsung DC because I totally killed my HTC TB, and my wife says the exact same thing.
But with that said, just follow the root instructions. It's extremely easy, and it's step-by-step so you really cannot go wrong. I'm relatively new to rooting too, so I can say it's very simple.

Did you do the adb method which was posted in the forum or did you have to downgrade from ED2?

Read over these threads first.
1. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1085190
2. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074145
There is a link posted on the 2nd thread's OP for root instructions.
But in case you need another one, check out this site: http://androidadvices.com/how-to-root-samsung-droid-charge-tutorial/
Also this site might be useful for someone who doesn't know how to push ADB: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/what-is-adb-and-how-to-install-it-android/

What you'll need to do is download the Ace Hack Kit, but unfortunately it has been suspended due to mistreatment on the forums. So you'll have to find another method of downloading it, or I'll ask him if I can post it.
After having your phone rooted, you can THEN go into CWM and flash your custom ROM
U can download it from the Desire HD forum, its the same

No you can't. attn1 took it off of there too

attn1's post is #7
I think that's what triggered it in the first place.
It was nice while it lasted. OP - You'll need to find someone who has the latest hack kit uploaded somewhere else to share with you. Note: attn1 has taken down his IRC and will no longer be supporting his hack kit - so you're on your own except for the minor assistance the community might be able to provide

You mistakingly got thanked for that - lucky dog.
Read the "Effen Manual". From what I recall seeing in the hack kit thread the password should be in there. This was to ensure users were READING
Also, make sure you read the FAQ section in the "effin manual" since that will provide vital information regarding where the password is in the hack kit folder.
If you still need the most up to date hack kit PM me and I can provide it to you.
I just dont understand why the download was taken off. All he has to do is no longer support it and not respond to questions/answers that he may deem as unfit for the development section.
From what i read in the thread it appears there was just a simple misunderstanding as far as the use of the development forum rather than using the Q/A section along with a user questioning the possibility that the hack kit is not perfect.

This x1298540928756 (however it's his software and he can do with it as he pleases)
However it looks like JSL's procedure essentially does the same thing, but it's not in a "1 step" GUI like attn1's was. It's more closely resembles versions of the hack kit before attn1 started the GUI
Edit: I bet this (http://www.xda-developers.com/android/how-to-root-the-htc-desire-hd/) irked him too. A) no credit to attn1 in this article B) Let's be honest, how many times have we seen attn1 tell people to stop watching videos and read the effen manual?

This.
I hate that XDA has become a spoonfeed me or I'll throw a fit type community.
People need to appreciate what's been done for them and STFU.
i need LOTS of help!
First i hate that people are so mean and inconsiderate of those trying to help...I am a total noob. I attempted a week ago to root my HTC Aria, and i did it BUT as soon as i did i guess i downloaded the latest HTC software that i am finding is IMPOSSIBLE to root, no matter how many different methods i try! in the cmd prompt and the adb devices part it never works...SO i am thinking of attempting rooting my HTC Inspire 4G with the 2.3.3 software and i am scared because i cant seem to find a good root for dummies...i get sent to outdated or no longer in used links and i am so frustrated...It shouldnt be that hard..can someone please help!

XDA = development site, not hold my hand I'm a noob help me site. It's because of complaining like this that got the development for the hack kit and attn1 to stop in the first place. If you think rooting this phone is impossible, then stop now before you destroy your phone. The link to do it the old fashion way was posted above, please read it, learn it and apply it if rooting still seems like something you wanna do. Educating yourself before you destroy your phone shouldn't be that hard or that much to ask. I can't wait to see the butt hurt response from this...more and more the Inspire forums are being overrun with these type of threads...I understand why attn1 got fed up.

Yes, attn1's hack kit was the 'easiest' method available. Hopefully, if he can get some assistance with supporting it, he'll re-release it (follow thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377119&page=3) In the mean time, you can go here (http://driphter.com/index.php?topic=3867.0) and follow the process described (which has been suggested multiple times in this thread). This is essentially the way attn1's hack kit started, before he started making it idiot proof (not calling anyone names, that's just how it is). Many, many users were able to successfully root/s-off using attn1's 'long' method before he started developing his GUI, but if this seems too over-the-top for you then maybe you should rethink the idea of rooting. Hopefully attn1 will re-release his easy to use hack kit, but with the frustration he's dealing with having to put up with users who want to be spoon fed this information is understandable, and I don't blame him in the least bit for pulling it - whether temporary or permanent
IMHO - there should be no 'root method for dummies'. You're messing with integral parts of the system when you're doing this and there is potential to permanently damage your phone. If you don't want to learn what the process is actually accomplishing, you shouldn't be doing it in the first place. Is there a specific reason you want root/s-off?

This has been covered, there is no need to provide anymore links or reiterate what has been said in this thread numerous times or in any of these "OMGZ WHERE DID THE HACK KIT GOOO HELPP MEEE" threads. If users want to educate themselves its out there waiting for them to read it. If they don't that's on them. I'm personally happy that ATTN1 took it down, I have no idea how he put up with it for this long.

This has always worked for me, the bad thing is that you fall back to factory defaults,
Go to this thread from I nuts
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1111486
Now download the PIT file and choose what version you want ep4 obviously being the latest, now flash using Odin, i usually take out the SIM and the SD card.
You now have a completely stock non rooted phone
Now to root it it depends what version you got;
if ep4 then simply flash the latest CWM(clockwork mod) found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112804
and then install a repacked kernel like imoseyon 4.0 and also a superuser.zip found here on post#2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20723064
and then you will be rooted again

He's not posting just to get his post count up. If you read through these forums, you will see kvswim provides a lot of help with his posts. Asking why you would want to unroot, then reroot is a logical question since it doesn't make sense to unroot then reroot. And I wouldn't call asking that question flaming. If he called you a moron for wanting to unroot then reroot, that would be flaming. I could list the step by step process of unrooting and rerooting for you, but the attitude you displayed in your response makes you undeserving of the help IMO. When you start a thread asking for help with as little information as you provided in your first post, you are going to get follow up questions. Are you stock or are you running a custom ROM? What process did you use to root in the first place? What is your end goal for this process? The more info you provide without attitude, the better people can help you and answer your question and the more likely you are to get help and get your question answered.

It doesn't matter, I got help from someone who didn't ask stupid questions. Why I want to do it is irrelevant! I asked so I could get information not so I could explain why I want the information. If you won't help me unless I explain why I want to do it, then frankly I don't want your help! So you don't have to help me. I want to do what I want to do whether it makes sense or not! So yes I consider it flaming because the question is irrelevant to the original question. I didn't explain why I wanted to because I don't feel the need to explain myself to everyone who wants to know! Yes I did post very vaguely and I apologize for that, and if those had been his questions "Are you stock or are you running a custom ROM? What process did you use to root in the first place? What is your end goal for this process?" then I wouldn't have had the attitude, but my reasons behind wanting to do this is none of your business, and again if you need to know my business before wanting to help, then don't bother posting! So there is your reason behind my "attitude". Yes my response was out of line, so I apologize, but I did feel the need to explain why I answered why I did! So again I apologize to KVSwim for answering the way I did!

Out of curiosity, can you explain your setup and method of rooting and un-rooting? It is kindof funny that I haven't put with thought to un-rooting other than flashing to to bone stock. I figure you could delete Superuser but I think you'd also have to flash the stock kernel (I haven't noticed a seperate file for that though.)

[Q] Easiest way to get JB on HOX

Sorry that I am a noob, but I have been reading threads for a couple hours and haven't found a source that will answer my question.
What is the easiest way to get JB on my HOX?
I have ran into some that seem easy but only to find that I need a CID of HTC_xxx where mine is CWS_001. After a post directing me to this forum I have continued to try to find something to help me get JB and no luck. If there is a post that describes this please reply with it, or if anyone would be kind enough to post directions on how to do this that would be greatly appreciated.
Again, sorry that I am a noob at this, first Android phone, switched from iOS after Apple's disappointing "new phone", aka iPhone 4s with an extra row of icons.
Thanks!

You have to change your CID from the AT&T default before you can unlock anyway. Once you do that, it doesn't matter anymore.

The CID will be changed to 1111111 before you can unlock your phone and then root, so don't worry about that. Happy flashing!

Ok...all these noobs getting the phone for free are now pissing me off completely. If you want to overcome being a noob, you have to put in time to read and search. DO NOT DO ANYTHING BEFORE FEELING COMFORTABLE WITH THE INFORMATION AT HAND
Being a noob means you should have at least watched the noob video when signing up. If you did not you broke the first rule of XDA and you need to watch it. If you did watch it(which I suspect you did not) you would know to search and read before posting. The community is here to answer questions we all have, but not questions that have been answered over and over again. Nor to spoon feed you.
oh ****...i know whats going to happen after he gets it rooted.......Don't you?? i see a brick coming up from attempting to flash the EVO OTA.
zac507, there is no official jb sense for our phone. someone should of stated that in the first reply shame on ALL of you. if you read his OP you would see he already tried flashing the endeavoru jb rom which is why he got the CID error.

Here are GREAT guides for noobs basically from start to finish here. When I was first starting I made a Q&A thread ONLY after reading enough to where I was confused and not confident in going forward without consulting others.....The key here is that you need to read and understand what you are doing first before you ask for help otherwise what good is the help?
Anyways, good luck reading and hopefully everything goes well

Thank you to everyone (except Chef). I will continue to read and do research before rooting or flashing my phone.
Chef, I have read through the forums quite a lot, asked others who have flashed other Android devices and watched many video tutorials on the subject. But before doing anything I wanted to ask a specific question that I did not see in the forums to get a clear and concise answer. Since I PAID for my phone, I do not want to brick it, hence my thread. I suggest you pull your over-inflated tech ego out of your swollen rear and learn to read. I said I was a noob at this. Noobs have questions. People on forums answer questions to help them. You, on the other hand, just act like a prick and contribute nothing to the thread. Thanks for absolutely no helpful information, please stop posting on any forum if this is how you do it.
Again, thank you to everyone else who replied. You were very helpful!

Where do I begin to correct this post?
First, let's start with the fact that you asked "what is the easiest way to get JB on HOX?" Well assuming you read, and searched and etc. you wouldn't need to ask that question considering you would have had the answer already because you in fact read and you would know that you can flash countless JB roms if bootloader unlocked and rooted.
My over inflated tech ego must have got in the way though. Even though you asked a question which is so similar to all the other JB related questions asked on this forum.
Obviously you need to continue to read(skimming and reading are different) considering the fact that you try to run an international RUU on your phone...
I was looking out for your best interest, if you want to take it to a personal level and call me a prick so be it, but I sure hope I help ingrained the fact that you need to read more before tinkering.
I think my rear is swollen I should go lay down
Zac, if you have any trouble or need help I for one would be willing to help, sent you a pm so we don't offend anyone else in here.

guys, its probably very off topic question, but I will have my HOX this friday,
we have JB over 4.2.1 over there, but we are currently in war with SOD because of google lol
awesome devs and kernel over there too
my question is
isnt the current stock from HOX cool enough?

Where the heck is "over there"? I assume some other device.
If somebody with 400+ posts on here doesn't get the purpose of custom ROMs, what the heck have you been doing here all this time?

Rooting is not that hard, it requires you to unlock the bootloader though. This will void your warranty however, if you flash a Google factory image your root is gone and warranty is restored as it is in factory state.
The easiest way to unlock the bootloader and get root is using CF Auto Root imo, this does not require a custom recovery. You do have to install adb however, link for how to do this http://www.google.nl/url?sa=t&rct=j...OWoMssTikMpokJ6TtwEND5A&bvm=bv.56643336,d.Yms
Link CF Auro Root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507211, read the thread well. Here is also a video http://www.google.nl/url?sa=t&rct=j...fDQf2hc_zP8V6HSGhseDfmA&bvm=bv.56643336,d.Yms.
Good luck bro and enjoy.

I don`t recommend toolkits to inexperienced users as it ends in disaster many times because users don`t have the knowledge to resolve an error if it occcurs and fix that what went wrong. Rooting can be fun but can also lead to a bricked phone if done wrong.
Learning to use adb takes a bit of time but will serve you well as long as you will be rooting, even long after the Nexus 5.
But its your call bro.

Toolkits automate the steps you have to do manually to gain root or do other stuff. Plus side: it's easy. Down side: if something goes wrong, you will not be able to fix it yourself unless you read some basics and learn about Android and fastboot basics.
I recommend taking some time and learning basics, but if you must: use the toolkit of mskip. I only say this because I used it in the early days of my GNEX, and it worked fine then.

Looking for a detailed root guide for the s8 plus

I see tons of youtube videos but there is a high chance of those beeing outdated. I have a g955f model so im mainly looking for a detailed guide on installing twrp and magisk with all the latest links to everything i need for the rooting process.A guide will probably help me from bricking if i dont know what im doing halfway through.
Try searching here. There's already a guide and a thread about this.

No. Search for it. Theres a search box on the forums. Not trying to be a jerk, but forum rules state you are to search before asking a question. And, honestly, if searching for a thread is too much for you, the rooting process may also be too much for you.

It took me literally 30 seconds to find the thread here by searching. You can do it. I have faith in you.
Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, snd he can find threads on his own on XDA.

Uh...okay. so you're just going to wait for someone to spoon feed you, rather than taking time to find the information on your own?

Asking for someone to write you a detailed guide when a whole thread exists regarding your question is asking to be spoon fed. Follow XDA rules, use the search bar, and do your own research.
Its selfish to ask someone else to do all the work for you, if you're not willing to put in the time to search and read the pre-existing thread.

Sorry to jump in here but the guys right, there is a search button and two rooting guides for both versions of the device on here all you have to do is search. . .
The Devs of these methods provide concise instructions for you to follow and apply to your device, its all done at YOUR own risk, Im sure he'd be very happy to help you if you get stuck and you PM'ed him but considering you've not even bothered to read the thread for rooting your specific device is enough to know not to get involved as other users wont appreciate being hounded because you've buggered something up.
people who have been rooting devices for several years will tell you all about the time spent getting the files and installing the correct drivers and software to achieve this and still be met by boot loops and or bricked devices that require RMA's back to specific OEMs or days spent in limbo trying to resurrect their devices.
As he already stated if you can't search and read through a thread that is rammed with tips and instructions rooting is possibly not worth the risk for you and your device
its always worth typing this into google "root samsung s8+ exynos xda"

I just looked at the OPs other posts. In his very short time here, he has already established a habit of asking questions rather than searching for the answer and then getting pissy when someone tells him to search or research.

If you can't find a root guide then i don't think you'll be able to follow it either...
In time it took to write all the messages in this thread, you could have rooted the device 3 times over
