Rooting is not that hard, it requires you to unlock the bootloader though. This will void your warranty however, if you flash a Google factory image your root is gone and warranty is restored as it is in factory state.
The easiest way to unlock the bootloader and get root is using CF Auto Root imo, this does not require a custom recovery. You do have to install adb however, link for how to do this http://www.google.nl/url?sa=t&rct=j...OWoMssTikMpokJ6TtwEND5A&bvm=bv.56643336,d.Yms

I don`t recommend toolkits to inexperienced users as it ends in disaster many times because users don`t have the knowledge to resolve an error if it occcurs and fix that what went wrong. Rooting can be fun but can also lead to a bricked phone if done wrong.
Learning to use adb takes a bit of time but will serve you well as long as you will be rooting, even long after the Nexus 5.
But its your call bro.

Toolkits automate the steps you have to do manually to gain root or do other stuff. Plus side: it's easy. Down side: if something goes wrong, you will not be able to fix it yourself unless you read some basics and learn about Android and fastboot basics.
I recommend taking some time and learning basics, but if you must: use the toolkit of mskip. I only say this because I used it in the early days of my GNEX, and it worked fine then.

If there is someone who can post a video for rooting the Charge, I would greatly appreciate it.
There is nothing worse then getting a new phone and bricking it. Well, having my wife yell at me and tell me, "I told you not to mess it!" is worse! So to avoid that conversation and having to bring it back, it would be great to see a video on it.
I am a noob with rooting and any help would be great.

LOL!!! I'm in the same boat. I bought my Samsung DC because I totally killed my HTC TB, and my wife says the exact same thing.
But with that said, just follow the root instructions. It's extremely easy, and it's step-by-step so you really cannot go wrong. I'm relatively new to rooting too, so I can say it's very simple.

Did you do the adb method which was posted in the forum or did you have to downgrade from ED2?

Hey.
Just bought a HTC Evo 3D for £220.00 and I have no idea what roms are ect, infact this is my first android phone, and like the idea of being able to have a better camera on my phone and using beats audio.
I read your how to guide on how to instal this, but it went way over my head. I dont even know what a ROM is or kernal ect..
Is there a step by step dummy guide for someone who has never used a android phone before eg:
First install this program on your PC then do this, then you need to get this file and install it here ect and then do this.
I am seriously android dumb, my last phone was a sony Elm which would not even get the internet. and now hooked on the android phones.
Thanks so much.

We're all on the wrong track here: the OP said the guide was too simple already -- we therefore should set ourselves to the task of making more complicated. Knowing both myself and the rest of you, this should come rather naturally, so what's taking you so long? MAKE IT HARD ALREADY!
J/K -- read the stickies. In my opinion, if you can't do it with all the info provided --which is more than enough --then read and learn a LOT more on the basics of Android before you even attempt this (suggested topic would include at least recoveries, bootloaders, nandroid backups, and, obviously, rooting). You run a significant chance to end up with an expensive paperweight if you don't. If you do not feel comfortable yet, play around with your 700 for a bit, try rooting next (little harm done, little risk involved) and then move on to the heavier stuff.
I thought I was somewhat tech savvy ... not troo however!
In order to flash a ROM which comes as second nature to most Androidians I was at a total loss initially.
Yet with concentration, YouTube, XDA, Google Play and a slowdown of tipping the wineglass I was able to crawl from the sandpit.
This has all lead to a new mountain to climb.
There's a few things I find tough like fastboot for instance and that pesky Titanium Fup , yet I'll absorb those eventually.
Dealing with Android and it's many options has definitely been a reading experience.
Good luck to all who dive in!

go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1795156 to download the unlock apk tool (use second link). Launch the app and just follow the on screen direction, that's it. NOTE: currently Asus is having issue with their server, so the tool will failed. You just keep trying until it works. Once your device is unlock just follow the link and continue with section 2. Remember, after you install custom recovery (TWRP), you just boot into recovery and flash the Cleanrom. Cleanrom already rooted so you don't have to root your device.
Heck if did the ROM flash I'm pretty sure most anyone could figure out how to do it.
Linux\Android is a whole different animal to me so I've been studying...even bought a book about it

Yes, but it's a much better idea to learn how to do it manually. That way, you have a much better knowledge base.
When things inevitably go wrong, you will understand the process and know how to fix it.
Toolkits serve a purpose, but they breed laziness and you don't learn anything. You'll be back here posting "OMG, I brocked my phone, what do I do".
Read the stickies, learn what you're doing, then do it properly.
Please use the QUESTION and ANSWER section to ask QUESTIONS you want ANSWERED
Thread moved
Like others, I must advise against using toolkits. If something were to happen and your phone gets screwed up, you will have no idea how to fix it and surely XDA will see yet another "ZOMG such and such toolkit bricked my phone please helpppp!!!" thread. Doing stuff manually isn't nearly as difficult as it seems, and the knowledge you gain is indispensable. Try it, OP. You might surprise yourself with how easy it truly is.

Check the existing thread. Everything you need has already been explained.
@jonas.anderssen
Why exactly do you want to root? Because you have a specific need, a particular application that you can't live without? Or because it's super-cool to have a rooted phone? Rooting can be simple, but it brings difficulties, such as no longer being able to install OTA updates, so you're looking at doing manual updates every month every time Google releases a new version with security updates.

There are countless threads here and also dedicated stickied threads describing step by step how to do this. If you want someone to hold your hand and don't want to do any of the reading or work, then you shouldn't root your phone. Because you'll just be on here in a month crying about how your phone is bricked and wanting someone to hold your hand again.

Hello, i am sorry i thought i replied to you but somehow i missed it. I would like to root my secondary phone because i do have some apps i cant use them without a unrooted phone. I am aware that i wont be able to install weekly updates but thats not necessary because this is a secondary phone.
I have found out a website that shows me how to root it it asked me to download fastboot, recovery clockworl. beta supersu, android studio and hamemrhead mmb2. It seems to be a complex issue but i remember in the past i used ODIn and it rooted the phone within 10 seconds without any issue. Is that still possible?
Thank you again for your time
Ten seconds, no.
But the website says to download "hamemrhead mmb2", which I suppose is Hammerhead MMB29S. If all you want is root, and not a new ROM, you can do it easily by booting into recovery (CWM or TWRP) and installing SuperSU v2.66. It's that easy. 30 seconds, maybe.
And if you're going to work on your phone you need to work on your typing skills first...
You have an excellent resource in this Q&A section, had you read prior to posting your own thread, you probably would be rooted by now.
