[Q] Barnacle Wifi on Droid 1 with Vegan Ginger Gtablet - G Tablet General

I have been trying all weekend to get a wireless tether set up on my Droid 1. I have searched and searched and the only instructions I find for setting up the gtablet refer to TnT ROM. Do those same instructions work for VEGAn Ginger? I tried actually tried following the instructions to install the wpa-adhoc zip file and lost all wireless connections on gtab.
I then reinstalled VEGAn Ginger to start over, and set a WEP key in Barnacle on my phone and then the gtab would show the Droid but just for a few seconds.
Any advice on how to get this set up?
TIA
Ok...there have been no replies. I know there are lots of people who are doing this. I just don't know what I'm doing wrong. Should I use a different ROM, different tether, or what? I would be willing to pay the $20 per month to get this through my carrier. However, according to them, the Droid 1 doesn't do wireless and according to all my research, I can't use the USB tether on the Gtablet. So that data plan wouldn't work for me.

Nothing special needs to be done to the Gtab for barnacle use. Your setup (including the OG Droid) is the same I use every day.
The tablet must be set up for DHCP.
In barnacle, go to settings, then restore the defaults. It may be easier to just unistall then reinstall barnacle.
Next, in barnacle, go to settings and choose 'skip wpa_supplicant'.
Close the settings in barnacle then choose 'start' from the barnacle homescreen.
After barnacle has finished starting up and it reports 'connected to NAT' and 'running' press the 'Associate' button.
On your tablet go to wireless and the default 'barnacle' hot-spot should be showing.
Tips:
Try an unsecured connection with no pass or wep to establish a connection and figure out the barnacle basics.
With 'skip wpa_supplicant' connected you can use wep or open for your network. While wep is less secure, simple WPA (not WPA2) is just as insecure, and I find that wep is suitable for most people.
The 'Associate' button is your friend, and is usually to blame for people not seeing the hot-spot on the tab.
Not sure if you have gotten this far yet as your post was not very informative - is the WPA a must?
Anyhow... hope this helps.

Thank you! Yes, I had gotten that far and had pressed Associate many times, and it would show temporarily but wouldn't stick. So I uninstalled Barnacle and reinstalled as you suggested and it worked after pressing Associate the 2nd time.
I appreciate your help!

Sprint touch pro 2 tethering problem

hello, I recently purchased the tp2 and love it so far. I have done a number of tweaks to the phone with no issues except for the tethering one. I followed the instructions that are given to tether which included deleting and editing some registry entries but i am having an odd problem. When i go the the internet sharing program and i hit the connect button, nothing happens. the "connect" button goes gray for a couple of second the returns to white for me to press it again. the status says disconnected and never changes.
I tried a number of things such as:
1.soft reset
2.reinstalled the internet sharing and edited the reg again
3.opened a connection with my web browser first
from what i understand is that the next step after "connect" would be a prompt that says "connect your usb cable" or something like that.
Has anybody run into this problem? Can anybody give me any advise?
Thanks
Im using mine right now but Ive also had a few issues
Make sure your Data connection is active( in connections under settings) before you try to tether
Quote: "I followed the instructions that are given to tether which included deleting and editing some registry entries"
Question....where can I find these instructions....iv'e looked and can't find....THANKS!
HOW can I get Internet Sharing to work on my TP2
tp2 tethering
you dont need to make any registry changes for tethering to work. sprint doesn't see the data any differently(i have been streaming netflix through my phone to my laptop for a while). try a hard reset. with phone off hold power send call and end call buttons simultaneously until reset screen appears. follow instructions on the screen. also are you selecting phone as modem or sprint for the connection? be sure it is set to sprint. i ran into a similar issue and needed to call sprint to have them reset my data connection password and i updated profile afterwards and it worked fine. hope this helps.
I posted my tethering experience with Mogul and TP2 here.

I have tried the reg edit and it works for a while and then the phone will just power off like a soft reset.Has anyone have this issue and anyone have solutions
Thank you
I found it easiest to use the XDA-Tom Codon wifi cab for tethering. It enables you to use your phone as a wireless router for your computer and Sprint cannot see it. It works very well for me and its very fast, the only downfall is it runs your battery down considerably.....

i installed that cab and couldn't find anywhere to turn it on or set anything. where did u find it after installing?
EDIT: oops, found it by pressing the "all settings" softkey to get to the real WM control panel rather than the prettified touchflo interface.
Tethering vs WIFI use
Hi All,
First time poster here.
I have a new HTC TP2 on Sprint and love the phone. But when it comes to tethering, I have a few questions.
I finally got "Internet Sharing FIX" to work. It took a few connects of the cable to start it working.
When I installed "XDA-Tom_Codon CM Wifi Internet Sharing VGA" it seems to work but the data connection keeps dropping. Soft resets do nothing. A hard reset worked. But again after install the Internet Shareing FIX then Tom's WIFI sharing, the issue reappeared again.
It seems like these 2 cannot exist together on the phone. Is this true?
try this
install these: in order as posted make sure to soft reset after each cab

Which rom are you using? With a custom rom, does one experience these problems? I'd like to tether directly rather than wifi sharing. Does one do this with a custom rom and the above applications installed?
I am current using WiFi sharing on my TP2 with no problems from my home computer or iPod Touch but it doesn't work with my work computer due to it being locked down. :-(
If In install these three programs witll it allow me to direct connect via a USB cable?
Thnx.
I'm able to use ICS on windows vista via USB connection, but not for windows 7. Does the above fix solve the problem? (i'm using mightymike's rom)

Could we get a new user sticky guide?

IF this device is sold in the thousands on Black Friday, there will probably be a "couple" or more people interacting with this forum. Perhaps the following would be handy:
1. Start from scratch guide (CW and non-CW methods)
2. Pros and cons of CW vs non-CW (assuming non-CW will be an option with the OEM update based roms)
3. Survival kit if in boot loop
4. Links to roms & add on apps (with dates of when updated)
If Roeb, Roth and others could consider a guide and approach it from a general audience level (not clueless, but not a root vet either), this could save a LOT of posts due to questions related to how to do it or fix it when doing it wrong.
I thought i was already doing that.
If a user can't do a firmware update, then they might as well stick to TnT stock. I think the biggest issue they'd face is the infinite reboots, since the fix sometimes requires cwm or even nvflash.
EDIT: I have a general FAQ in tegratab - - I'll port it over.
Good point
BTW, anybody able to get the Gtablet to work with either USB or wifi tethering? I have struck out with both using my Incredible, which works fine with my laptop.

WiFi tethering worked for me using my Nexus One. I had to do nothing special to get it to work. At the time I was running Zpad 0.2. I'm on Cyanogen Beta 2 right now, but I've been running on my home WiFi. I'll try the wifi tether and report.

Does the Incredible (like the Droid1) only provide Adhoc (vs. Infrastructure/AP) Wireless tether???
If so, then you will need to make the 2 wpa_supplicant.conf file edits SIMILAR to what I described for the ZT-180...
http://www.slatedroid.com/zt-180/69...o-static-ipaddr-required-edit-files-once.html
I say Similar, as the ctrl_interface=wlan0 on Gtab vs. =ra0 on ZT-180... but otherwise it's just edit the same 2 files the same way...

Not sure, but I do know this works with my M11X, but I mainly do USB tether, which I am guessing does not work either (since I could not get it to work on the Gtablet). Not had to mess with settings before...
Dang, if I can not fix this, my love affair with the G will be but a short fling- need to be able to tether.
I can not even get the blue tooth to pair.
I was so focused on the PSX gaming and web & Flash at home, but never figured in a million years that I could not connect to my Inc.
There is a bunch of options in the app I use, simply called "Wireless Tether".
The Gtablet will sometimes say "network available", but does not show it (probably work's, but even my Inc will show the network here). Then again, I turn my Inc off and the G still says "network avialable", so go figure.

All you need to know is the SSID... for your phones tether... I believe I used what was the default for the Droid1 which is likely the same... you can enable Wifi Analyzer on the GTab to determine the SSID when you enable tether on the phone and that should be the only thing you need to know for Adhoc with Not change of settings to the phone... then the 2 file edits... my example locks my 2 home networks and my Adhoc tether configured and overwrite/updte disabled so when I temp find roaming nets I can cannect but Not sane them for later but that works just fine for me... so I'd say copy the networks you have saved Now in your /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf and use them to replace my jtb* networks... and try just using my adhoc network as is, with same globals I show in the examples...
Are there not sub-mod's that can do this stuff on this sub-forums? If not, this will be really annoying trying to get a sticky.

How can I do both at the same time? Using same device (using Inc for wifi analyzer and wifi tether at same time should not work)
Gtablet does not see my phone, but connects to my home system and see area networks fine at home Traveling on the road is the killer for me
I am not understanding the file edits you mention. Is there a highlight of what parameters to edit, or is this all new script?
Update.
Even using PDAnet is a bust with Bluetooth. The devices pair, but no connection.

Yes, my example does both... I can turn on tether sitting in my home lab and sometimes the gtab even switches from my weaker AP to the phone adhoc... usually I just toggle wifi off/on to get it to switch... if I stop tether it jumps to my AP...
Really the only params that are required are the ones I set in the example...
These global params would be same for you...;
# Globals
ctrl_interface=wlan0
update_config=0
ap_scan=2
This Adhoc specific network would be same for you I believe just verify your ssid all else is definitely same as default in tether from market...;
network={
ssid="AndroidTether"
scan_ssid=1
mode=1
key_mgmt=NONE
priority=30
}
Then paste what you currently have saved for networks you frequent below these like my 2 home AP nets, so your currently saved networks would differ here...;
# Lab default
network={
ssid="jtbnet-lab-wireless-3"
key_mgmt=NONE
auth_alg=OPEN SHARED
wep_key0=16593b8024
priority=20
}
# Home default
network={
ssid="jtbnet1"
key_mgmt=NONE
priority=10
}
Once you have the /data/ short version of your file like above... just also paste that piece to top of the /etc/wifi sample file that the tablet uses as a starting template and comment out the 2 differing settings further down in that original template file...
# update_config=1
# ap_scan=1
And you should be good to go to work on your current saved local nets as you can now, plus your Wifi Adhoc Tether.... the update_config=0 says don't overwrite these files with any found nets, or change any of my default settings... , but you can still roam and connect... just won't save any of the temp nets you find roaming as they will change some of the critical settings like ap_scan=2 if you let them update... you can always manually edit and change or add locked down nets later...

Most likely an android issue.
If you are using barnicle or wifi tethering your laptop will see it fine, the laptop can normally see what is called Ad Hoc networks.
Android cannot (unless tweaked?) normally see an Ad Hoc Network, they need what is called infrastructure mode, which is what a normal wireless router transmits at (unless modified to something else), so the GTab will not see your incredible's signal like your laptop will.
I am using the droid X and the 3g hotspot app, the 3g hotspot transmits in infrastructure mode by default and the gtab sees it fine.
There are hacks to get 3g hotspot for free, but I would not guarantee Verizon can't still see a connection and charge you, use at your own risk.

i'm connected to my incredible right now, it works fine using wifi tether from the market.
I am still having no luck with Incredible and getting the Gtab to see it. No problem with my router at home.
I am using TnT 1.02, wifi tether app and even tried the binary file add on from the EVO.
1) This thread seems to have turned from sticky to tethering -- different but extremely useful info. May I suggest the moderators to move the relevant posts to a new **sticky** thread?
2) Speaking of tether: Have anyone managed to do USB tether with the g-tablet? This could very well be the key factor in my decision to keep or return the g-tablet, and I'd be most appreciative for any help and advice from the advanced users here.
Thanks!
I have tried everything software likely, but still no wifi tether being seen by the device. I can activate hotspot and the Gtablet sees it and ask for a password, so at least the G can see my Inc- just not in straight wifi mode. Does not see it at all and I do think it is the ad-hoc issue. Gtablet not seeing it for some reason.
Could it be due to having TnT lite 1.02? Perhaps the people having luck are using Z-Pad .03 or CM?
Wonder if it is possible to create drivers for USB tether?
Here is what I had to do after the newest dec 2010 update
#
#
# Connecting your viewsonic gtablet to your Ad-HOC wifi
#
#
adb pull /system/etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.com
cp wpa_supplicant.conf wpa_supplicant.conf.orig
[Edit WPA_supplicant.conf]
ap_scan=2
network={
ssid="YOUR-SSID"
scan_ssid=1
key_mgmt=NONE
mode=1
priority=99
}
{YOUR OTHER NETWORKS HERE}
adb push wpa_supplicant.com /sdcard/wpa_supplicant.conf
use androot or root explorer to delete the current wpa_supplicant.conf file and copy the modified version to /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
chown the wpa_aupplicant.conf file to owner wifi group wifi (ie #chown wifi.wifi wpa_supplicant.conf)
[notes]
Your ad-hoc network should be the first in the list as outlined above. make sure that the priority is set to a high number.
when enabling your teather on your phone you may need to disable the wifi on your tablet then reenable. wpa_supplicant will always attempt to
connect to the first network with the highest priority first so it should connect right up. If you have problems you can use logcat to debug.
you will see wpa_supplicant getting enabled and if there are any errors you will see it there. You should not need to set the update_config option
but if you have problems with your conf getting overwritten you can set update_config=0 and this will not allow wpa_supplicant to update the config.
The only downside to that is that you will not longer beable to save new network blocks to the file, You can still connect it just will not save them.
I just loaded TNT 3.0 and the supplements yesterday. I jus tried the Wireless Tether app from the market on my Droid 1 and my G Tab sees and is able to connect.

[Q] Ready to Return My Transformer - Apps, Wifi Issues

OK so I have had my Transformer for 2 days now and so far it has been little more than a paper weight. I have not been able to download a single app from the market. I've tried everything suggested here (cancel/restart, reboot, etc) with no luck. I have not been able to even update Google Maps or install Flash Player, literally I have not been able to install anything. I've tried stock and rooted plus I cannot get any version of Prime to install (finally got the root and CWM installed). Lastly, since this is a Wifi only device it is important to wireless tether with my cellphone. Two days and I still cannot get it to work, will not even find the device. Only 2 days of ownership and I am completely frustrated with this thing. I really like and want the micro SD capabilities but if I can't resolve this ASAP it will need to go back to the store.
Anyone have any suggestions on what all I can try? Please help!
Sorry, I'm a little busy to look for the direct links.
Just look-for the vanilla NVFlash then add the Prime 1.5 (nvflash version). Dump them together into a folder then run the batch file. Simple !
I just helped two co-workers with their brand-new TFs getting rooted this way.
Maybe 5-10 minutes top.
Make sure you unzip the downloaded Prime file (it becomes 4 files). Read the NVFLASH post and have the USB driver ready.
Thanks man I'll give it a shot here shortly
Good luck.
And if you ever have a need to get back to stock (refund maybe ?), there is a stock-ROM (nvflash version), just as easy to get back.

You don’t have to root or flash with a custom rom to get the basic stuff like Wi-Fi. Everything works out of the box as advertised. If something doesn't then either you are doing something wrong or there is a fault with your device. Did you try connecting to a normal Wireless Router? Honeycomb can not see some types of adhoc networks without installing a patch (i.e created by Windows, this may be applicable to some phones too, however it worked fine with My Galaxy S).

I guess you enjoy using command lines to unroot ?!
There is a nvflash package w/stock-rom available. Just double-click download.bat then wait a few minutes.

Hi, sometime the problem is in the market. not the device itself. I got similar experience with my HTC device. I've installed many ROMs but the market always screwed. So what I did was, just reset your device, when it asks the Google account, type in your email like this: [email protected] instead of just blablabla or [email protected]

I guess your phone is offering up an adhoc connection, which Android doesn't support out of the box. It should work fine with phones that offer up a true infrastructure hotspot. Personally, I think adhoc networks should die a horrible death, but I appreciate their necessity if that's all your phone can do.
Search for adhoc and you should find a solution to this issue. You can also try PDAnet (tablet) too.
Regards,
Dave

Ad hoc issue appears to be most relevant.
Market download issues =software issues not hardware. If you do not have any other wifi option then go to McDonald's or Starbucks and try it on their wifi.

Don't know if this helps, But I just discovered that the Transformer doesn't seem to like hidden SSID.
Mine connects fine if the SSID is shown, but once I hide the SSID it said out of range.
My EVO 3D, iPod, TV all work with it hidden.
Does someone know if you can setup the TF to connect with hidden SSID?
Thanks
Thanks for the advice all. I don't have a custom ROM on it yet, just rooted. I can't get the zips to work. Says cannot open (bad). Will try re-downloading for a 5th time and see how goes it. I did figure out the wifi issue on my phone - it was ad hoc as stated and it recognizes my phone now but still won't download apps (says it's downloading but never does). Tried cancelling and restarting several times as well as factory resetting the device. Does the same thing when I connect to my home network as well.

My Wifi network is hidden and I had no issue connecting my TF.
What type of router and what settings does it have?
I am using a NetGear WNDR3700 (802.11-g,n). The TF connects to the 2.4 GHz section over 802.11n.
Is it wise to be playing with recovery images and custom ROMS, if you can't get basic market functionality working?
Clearly before changing your TF from stock, get the market working, this is almost certainly a probem with your Wifi router...
The only problem I am aware of with the Transformers Wifi, is sometimes it does not getting a DHCP address when coming back from sleep (use Static IP), the TW release has this fixed, but the WW does not for some reason, i'm guessing they know 3.2 is incoming soon.
Follow these steps to get the market working:
I don't exactly know what the problem is, but I've had it on a couple of phones before. I do NOT have a googlemail account, so that wasn't the problem.
I deleted all cache/data from the following programs: Market, MarketUpdater, Downloads, Download manager, googleapps (anything that seems relevant)
now first go on a computer, open your gmail via gmail.com, send a mail, edit some contacts, just make sure you do something! Now reboot your eee pad, accept the market policies and see if it works....
If this doesn't fix it, then I have no options left
Update: I ultimately returned my TF (I had already suspected that I didn't receive a new device due to other issues and packaging). I received the new TF yesterday (A+ to Amazon.com). The new TF was 1000x better. Loaded right up, connected, market apps loaded easily, quickly and on the first try. All in all I am pleased. And the root and ROM installs worked flawlessly. Actually enjoying my TF now. Thanks all for the advice and help!

Can't WiFi Tether with Rooted Thrill

Wifi tethering is disabled in the att stock rom. You'll need to install a custom ROM. The 1.03 version of the thriller ROM enables it and it works great for me devices that are connected get around 3mb/sec

Careful while tethering supposedly AT&T is cracking down on it and it isn't hard for them to find out if you are doing it. With these smart phones it makes it even easier to notice they could have something deep in the system that flags you when you do. Also they are going to be keeping a close eye on all their smartphones now because a lot of people are tethering unauthorized since it is so easy to get around, you don't even need to be rooted to do it.
They've seen saying that for years. I tether all the time. I pull 100-800mb per session when I tether with my old phone. However I never go over 4GB a month and I have the grandfathered unlimited data plan.
I think the problem is it will not connect to any ad hoc network. I ran WiFi Router on my old phone and tried to connect the Thrill to my old phone. My old phone's SSID doesn't show up in the Thrill. I think if there's a way to enable adhoc on the Thrill, WiFi Tether will work.

Go download a program called "any cut" open it and press new shortcut, press activity, scroll down to hidden menu, the shortcut will be created and be on first homepage or where ever there is room. Open the shortcut scroll down to connectivity test and uncheck entitlement. You will be able to tether and if you reboot you will have to do the process again it doesn't stick. It is the only way without flashing and it can be done with or without root. Couldnt find the thread to link to on tapatalk.

[Q] Wireless Tethering Settings

Greetings.
I have searched the forums, and have not found what I was looking for so I am going to ask nicely here.
1. I have just rooted a friends Inspire. Shipped with GB
2. In searching, I can not find any (or minimal) reference to the android wifi tethering app, and I am wondering
A)if anyone uses it, and
B) if so, what settings are used to make it work.
I appreciate your time in reading this post, and thank you in advance for your relevant answers.
thats because the wifi settings will be unique to each person ie channel, encryption, passkey etc.
The tethering needs to be activated and the PC with you want to tether has to be accepted in the cel. The app gives you a password you need to use in the PC...when you try to connect the phone will prompt that device is requering permission to connect. That simple. If you cannot make to work with the hot spot app, you can use Koush's Tether app in the market.
Thanks for the replies,
I was just curious as some devices require tweaking in the settings of google's wifi tether, and didn't know if the inspire worked on the default settings....

I actually had never tethered before yesterday....and it was just for curiosity, but worked great, and didn´t tweaked anything at all. By the way, I am using Coredroid V9.2 that has a default app.
I had to enable "routing fix" in the settings of the google tethering app.
