[Q] Should i sell my nexus s for the sensation - HTC Sensation

I'm seriously thinking of pre-ordering the sensation. but is there that much of performance difference between the nexus s & the sensation that i can notice in real life?
I'm talking performance only (not build quality- not screen res... only performance)
Is it worth selling the nexus s for the hrc sensation?

Um waiting to see if it has wifi calling.

What is WiFi calling? Is it a T-Mobile specific thing?
It certainly has the ability to use SIP, I have it set up and have made/received a few calls with it.

yes t-mobile app that you can use to call over wifi when you have no cell phone service at your location

WiFi calling is when you don't have a strong signal or live in the boons or in your basement that has no signal. You can connect to your wifi to make and recieve calls.

Sounds like a cool feature...I wouldn't mind it, but I use a Vodafone Suresignal at home...never needed one before I got a HTC. Reception isn't stellar at home on Vodafone, but it's only been a problem on my HTC Nexus, Desire, Desire Z, Desire HD, and now the Sensation...all HTC's have a common trait, the cell antenna is in the lower end of the phone. Holding the phone like a phone covers the antenna and lowers reception.
I couldn't get a Galaxy S to drop the network at all in my home...but then it's made of plastic, perhaps the same reason the Xperia X10 and Arc also work fine in my house
I can't win!

I would wait and see some reviews and comparisons. I have the HTC Sensation and to put it simply it's very fast with its dual core 1.2 processor.

I know HTC Sensation has potential but I dont know if its worth the upgrade

What I want to know is if it will have the choice to be able to tether? Does anyone know if the senation is capable of doing so?

IMHO, the beautiful qHD screen would be worth the upgrade alone.

In "Settings > Wireless & Networks" there is a "USB tethering" option.

ok very good thats all i wanted to know, just wanted to make sure that it was given the option to tether off of the phone!

If you are asking about the US version then I am not sure if it will have tethering option. I just hope Tmous will not take the advantage of locked bootloaders to disable tethering and fill up the device with bloatware.

Make sure to turn wifi performace

Hi i just notice that on my. Mytouch 4g when u go to settings then wireless network then turn wifi on and u go to the other setting to select which network u want. When u get there click on ur menu button then hit advance then make sure wifi performance is checked on. The phone stock does not havr it checked on. Thought this would help if u use wifi. I just noticed it right now lol

Does anyone know exactly what this does after enabling?
It probably enables "mimo" or "afterburner". Serious, look them up.
If you don't need it, then you may be able to conserve power.
yeah i just noticed this yesterday when i was on wifi at my house. but it will give u the best performance using wifi. but i saw some videos going against the iphone 4 and evo 4g and they always use wifi so i left a comment letting them know to make sure that is turned on so it would be a fair match up even though the mytouch 4g beat the iphone 4 and evo at pretty much everything lol.
True mimo? No way? Do we have true aggressive AP bonding aswell?

I don't know if that's what it is. Mimo is all I can think of that it might enable.
Like in a school or corporate setting with multiple ap for the same network... laptops will seamlessly transition to the strongest ap... I know my g1 did not, never tried with n1 or this mt4g

Totally did not know that. Probably will fix my wifi dropping in and out. Nice find, I never would have thought!

Is t-mobile data atleast halfway possible?

Ok I have simple mobile and using my inspire as I speak now I gotta ask...is there any way possible AT ALL I can get 3g speeds or even close. Weather I got to edit the build.prop file or not. I want somewhat decent speeds. Thanks in advance.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
In short, the answer is no. Tmobile and Simplemobile require different hardware for 3g than at&t does. Edge is the best you will achieve with the Inspire on Tmobile or Simple.

Why is it so difficult to port WiFi Calling?

WiFi Calling doesn't exist on any of the custom ROMs unless it's based off of a T-Mobile ROM. Did they change the way WiFi Calling works?
What does it take port it over?
All I'm looking for is a Vanilla ICS ROM (AOSP, CM9, something like that) with WiFi Calling.

Does it run off of drivers or something? Can't we port it over from another device (that has WiFi calling) running AOSP?

You need to enable it in the settings:
Settings > More > WiFi Calling
It allows you to substitute your actual cell signal for WiFi. For instance, if you're in a dead zone, and you can't get any service, turn on WiFi Calling and you'll be able to make calls and receive texts!
It's an absolute necessity for me.
I used the sim card that came with the phone, and whenever I try using wifi calling, it says that my sim is not compatible and to contact tmobile to get a proper compatible sim.
Have you tried calling T-Mobile about it?

Leedroid doesn't support it. It's only for T-Mobile customers.
Does anyone know what from the framework is needed to port it?
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda app-developers app
Nah, I'm too lazy. On my Sensation, the feature wasn't so great. People couldn't understand what I was saying, so I figured it must still suck on this phone.
Every report of wifi calling, even in stock, said it sucked. It's built into the framework of TMOUS ROMs and there's little incentive to try and port it into others. Try Skype.

The feature is great on this device (according to my experience with it). I'm able to learn to understand whatever you have to teach me / I can help you with if you're willing to help port it.

It's not a "port". You can't just take the sense framework and tweak some configuration file or platform variable and have it work. Wifi calling is part of Sense now... No Sense, no Wifi calling, just like the Sense clock or any other widget.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
Someone on the Trickdroid thread had the idea of taking the Sense framework and incorporating it into an .apk. Is that possible?
Why not just run a de-sensed Trickdroid with Nova or Apex launcher? Mostly the same experience as AOSP if you don't notice the performance hit.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
I could do the same thing with Axiom S-Less (which has WiFi calling built in and is updated) but I want the full AOSP experience.
It might be mental, but I've always had a smoother experience with full AOSP versus de-Sensed ROMs. I'm speaking from experience with my T-Mo G2 days.
So if I use WiFi calling will it still use my mins?
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Yes it will. It's good for situations where you have no cell reception.

[Q] Network upgraded to 4G but I only get H

hey there I/'m living in St. Kitts in the Caribbean.
LIME the network provider upgraded from EDGE to 4g on Friday, but I realise since then my phone is only showing H (3G) and not H+(4G).
i am wondering if this has anything to do with the rom i'm currently running (trickdroid) or not?
I was in the city centre friday night where they had the launch and pretty close to the cell tower so I know distance isn't the issue
Thanks for the help in advance
Most roms don't display the +. Its purely cosmetic. Only roms I know that display it are based on the inspire 3.20 version.
Again its purely cosmetic and does not effect speed. Heck the phone is only capable of 14mbs Max. I would say 3.5 g Max
Thanks for the response I was just wondering. Makes sense with what you are saying. And I just realise something I tried another Rom, it wasn't even loading so had to restor this on and realised that while booting up it went from E to 3G to H. But I don't think I'm getting even 2 mb from this will take a screen shot and post to you.thx again for the response.

Depending on what ROM you're using, I've found Speedtest to be somewhat unreliable for whatever reason. For example, I'm running Sabsa Prime 7.0. When I do a test on wifi, I get 15+mbps down and around 4mbps up with 30 ping. When I run it on 4g, I get 7kbps down and 2mbps up with 150 ping. Obviously my actual 4g speeds are not 7kbps. On ARHD with the same radio the test showed 6-8mbps down and 3.5mbps up with 70 ping.
In summary, unless you feel that your real use speed is really that slow, forget what Speedtest says.
Ok cool got you.
But I can tell it's really slow as well. I will try one of those other rims cause this one iy takes a while to switch to programs etc. And I don't have a lot running in the background. The only thing I've realise though is that I've not yet learned how to bring over my settings ( WiFi and apn etc even my contacts ) when going from one Rom.to the the next.

Actually...
If you edit your build.prop, faster speeds can be obtained.
Also H+ is 4G, but its not like LTE speeds or anywhere close. It is more like a couple mbs above 3G.
Speedtest is fine. Your data icon will sometimes lie to you. No joke. It'll say H+, but in reality it is 3G. All depends on your signal strength.
- hit my thanks button if i helped you -
Thanks, how do I edit my build?
I am not sure what's going on it is.very slow and I am wondering if the Rom is the problem wondering if I should go back to the original 4g Rom that came with the phone

You'll need an app like "Root Explorer". Through the app you navigate to "/system" and long press the "build.prop" and edit. You may encounter an error message with something like "file is in read-only" which then you will have to change the settings to "write only" or something like that to edit which can be done in the explorer app. Once you get that far you can edit the build.prop to your liking. For settings that people have found useful search the forums.

T-Mobile tethering question on the sensation 4G

Is it possible to use a third party app like the one that my friend used on his sprint ego 4g called tether in other to tether with with his tablet?
Is there an option like this that I can use in order to bypass my T-Mobile hold on my nuts.
Cause I'm paying $120 already I don't wanna pay $10 more bucks for 5gigsin order to tether. I think I'm already paying enough.
Can anyone help me?
Is there a way to circumvent this?
Or I'm a doomed to keep paying this bastards for more internet?

The answer is yes. Try Wi-Fi tether from the market. There is a way to set the settings. If you get the app and it's not working, or your having trouble with the settings, P.M. me for the settings. I did have it working well with certain settings. I've found this app works in about 3out of 4 roms. Give it a try. It's simply called Wi-Fi tether. Best wishes
