Is it possible to use a third party app like the one that my friend used on his sprint ego 4g called tether in other to tether with with his tablet?
Is there an option like this that I can use in order to bypass my T-Mobile hold on my nuts.
Cause I'm paying $120 already I don't wanna pay $10 more bucks for 5gigsin order to tether. I think I'm already paying enough.
Can anyone help me?
Is there a way to circumvent this?
Or I'm a doomed to keep paying this bastards for more internet?

I know Bruces CM10 ROM has tethering built in and it works fine.
The answer is yes. Try Wi-Fi tether from the market. There is a way to set the settings. If you get the app and it's not working, or your having trouble with the settings, P.M. me for the settings. I did have it working well with certain settings. I've found this app works in about 3out of 4 roms. Give it a try. It's simply called Wi-Fi tether. Best wishes

Ok i was wondering if rooting the phone would get around my gf paying the 15$ like i do with my myTouch, with using a native program? I know theres an alternative, WiFi tether, but is that blocked too? She already has a granfathered unlimited data plan. Let me know I'm not too sure about Samsung & At&t

I am like 99.9% sure that the infuse and refuse roms have wifi hotspot enabled by default so you don't have to change your plan. You might want to search in that forum to be 100% as Im sure someone has asked already

did the search for ya, it was answered and yes its enable without adding the tethering plan, enjoy!!!

otherwise you SHOULD be able to use titanium backup to freeze the tethering manager apk. not entirely sure what the exact name of it is, but you need to disable that to let the built in tethering work (and to stop at&t from detecting some third party program tethering)
or yeah, you can install a custom rom (which already removed this little bit of at&t bloatware)
edit: tethermanger0326.apk is the apk (or something close to that)
Of course, after you do this, be careful with your usage patterns otherwise the Tether Police will still catch you.
Ok is there like a stock rom that's rooted & has those features? She's new to Android & loves the touchwiz. I'm an HTC guy so I'm not sure. I'm trying to keep it simple for her with the stock feel?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk
Do you/she want a new rom? Because the easiest and quickest way is to do the above mentioned of downloading titanium back up (paid version) snd freezing the tethermanager apk. Super simple and quick. Less work than doing the rom route... good luck.

No she doesn't, she doesn't wanna change anything but to get around shelling out 15$ for hotspot like I do on my myTouch. But don't you need to be rooted to freeze apps in titanium? Or could I root it, download Superuser & then do it?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk
yeah. you will need to root first (which is relatively easy for this phone, think it's just a oneclick thing).

well not quite. Just remember that if there ever is a system update she'll have to unfreeze that app for the update to work (then freeze it again to get tethering to work once more)
glad that it worked

Any link to download and flash?

Look around and it probably wont work that's why he doesn't include it. It is a weird known issue about 98% of the users can not get wifi calling to work on an miui rom, if it does work a reboot kills it or you have to have an old sim card.

Yep its true! Works beautifully! Tip: make sure and follow his settings to the tee! It's so wonderful to be tethering again! I'm also using ordroid 9.0.0. This app is so simple no driver to mess with , just on and off! First time I tried it I thought it didn't work, it was my bad on the settings! I got the settings right and BAM I'm tethering again and so happy! I missed tethering so much! So if you want to tether read this link and follow settings for the WiFi tether application. It really works!!! This app is a God send and so is the dude who figured out the settings! I'm happy happy happy and tethering daily again!

Wi fi tether works if you get settings correct settings also you have to do. Battery pull at the beginning of every tethering session. Settings Are as follows., check tethering and routing fix , disable wake lock, check set up wext ad hoc make sure that's checked, use device profile generic ics , DNS 8.8.8.8
Lan.192.168.2024, transit power disabled. If it started with a error just turn off power, pull battery, put battery back in, turn on power and you will be tethering ! This is for WiFi tether app. Hope I've helped you! Let me know

no wifi tether does not work i have tried those settings before somebody already told me that but did not worked , thx anyways i got it working with vpn finally that really works .........
Just make a new APN in Settings and point it to epc.tmobile.com. Then use the APN, five minutes or so later you should be able to tether without issues. Yes, you already have a epc.tmobile.com APN but we need to make a new one that doesn't have that admin property.

search in google about free tethering with ics
well it is said that ICS update will disable the free tethering for t-mobile.
I would post a link to the article, but the forum wouldn't let me yet since I'm a new user D:
T mobile said they will start charging extra $14.99 per month if you choose to use the hotspot option on your sensation that runs on ICS.
I was hoping to find out if custom rom will help in such situation.
However, I've heard that there are lots of issues rooting a phone. starting with security something.....
I've never rooted my phone before. So I'm kinda scared to root it then voiding the warranty.
I would like to keep my warranty if you know what i mean ;]

Works like a charm!
I was researching how to root my Sensation 4G due to the tethering issue when I came across this post. Worked smoothly though there was a glitch that the SSID defaulted to "AndroidAP" and went unsecured. Nothing I did could fix it till I reset to the previous image and then recreated the the new APN. Its now working perfectly fine...
I was so happy, I registered here on XDA just to thank sshede!
Love ANDROID.. Take that Tmo! And thanks sshede!
WiFi Calling doesn't exist on any of the custom ROMs unless it's based off of a T-Mobile ROM. Did they change the way WiFi Calling works?
What does it take port it over?
All I'm looking for is a Vanilla ICS ROM (AOSP, CM9, something like that) with WiFi Calling.

You need to enable it in the settings:
Settings > More > WiFi Calling
It allows you to substitute your actual cell signal for WiFi. For instance, if you're in a dead zone, and you can't get any service, turn on WiFi Calling and you'll be able to make calls and receive texts!
It's an absolute necessity for me.
I used the sim card that came with the phone, and whenever I try using wifi calling, it says that my sim is not compatible and to contact tmobile to get a proper compatible sim.
Have you tried calling T-Mobile about it?

Leedroid doesn't support it. It's only for T-Mobile customers.
Does anyone know what from the framework is needed to port it?
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda app-developers app
Nah, I'm too lazy. On my Sensation, the feature wasn't so great. People couldn't understand what I was saying, so I figured it must still suck on this phone.
Every report of wifi calling, even in stock, said it sucked. It's built into the framework of TMOUS ROMs and there's little incentive to try and port it into others. Try Skype.

The feature is great on this device (according to my experience with it). I'm able to learn to understand whatever you have to teach me / I can help you with if you're willing to help port it.

It's not a "port". You can't just take the sense framework and tweak some configuration file or platform variable and have it work. Wifi calling is part of Sense now... No Sense, no Wifi calling, just like the Sense clock or any other widget.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
Someone on the Trickdroid thread had the idea of taking the Sense framework and incorporating it into an .apk. Is that possible?
Why not just run a de-sensed Trickdroid with Nova or Apex launcher? Mostly the same experience as AOSP if you don't notice the performance hit.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
I could do the same thing with Axiom S-Less (which has WiFi calling built in and is updated) but I want the full AOSP experience.
It might be mental, but I've always had a smoother experience with full AOSP versus de-Sensed ROMs. I'm speaking from experience with my T-Mo G2 days.
So if I use WiFi calling will it still use my mins?
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Yes it will. It's good for situations where you have no cell reception.
