Somebody can post any application or the way to get Advanced Menu (when we press power button to see there reboot option, recovery, etc) like Pays Rom?
I belive he didnt answer to the private messages.
PS: i dont want apps like Hot Reboot, Fast Reboot, etc.
Yep, I'm interested in that solution too.
Setsel have reboot option.
You have to modify framework.

I had my universal put in my car holder, and apparently it was too snug and it held the backlight button clicked, when i had just soft reset.
The normal boot image came on, but this time a new menu appeared, instead of loading the OS!
It gave me 3 Options:
Enable KILT: NO
Clean Registry Hive: NO
Format Storage: NO
Controlling the menu is really strange:
the UP key scrolls the menu,
the DOWN key enables/disables the selected option,
and the ACTION key appears to start the selected options.
Not knowing how to control the menu, i accedently turned on the KILT option and clicked the action key, which gave me a new submenu, letting me choose the KILT transport method (USB, etc..), and KILT mode (Active or Passive)
i searched for "KILT" on the other forums, and its already a known option apparently, on the hermes forums especially.
They appear to use it to flash corrupted radio versions ("NO GSM" messages), and for other purposes also, mainly rescuing a bricked phone!
I can see how the "Clean registry hive" can be a useful option though, like when you screw up registry entries, making your os unable to load - you can clean the registry before doing a hard reset, so maybe you'd have a chance to save and backup your data.
Can anyone tell us more about this menu, or the KILT mode?
This menu was already known
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=865099&postcount=26
That post is from 10-01-2006
I think it's even mentioned in the Wiki page:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Technical
Although it says camera+reset, think it should be backlight+reset
hmm, i see.
i don't know why i haven't found it earlier when i searched the forum.
but is there anything useful that can be done with the KILT options, as they do with hermes?
KITL is usefull if the OS wont boot, that about it.
it allows you to see the wince kernel log while it boots so if you have a phone that wont boot this can help you find out why ;D
No GSM!!! can KITL help?
this seems to be a good news for me....
i'm having this problem of NO GSM on my UNIVERSAL on startup. so it is bricked now. Can this KITL help in getting my Radio ROM to life again???

well there's this thread i found, but its for hermes:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=300096&highlight=kitl+pb
be careful, hermes and universal are very different.
read this to get information only, i really dont recommend trying this on your universal without someone who know what he's doing helping you.
good luck
anyone can tell me how to disable this menu in the booting?
just dont press the buttons
Might be a dumm question, but how can you turn off the Touch Cruise (I'm using bepe's rom 0.63 at the moment)? With the oem rom, you'd press the 'end' key and it would display a list of what to do, and there was an option to shut down the phone. Now there's no option to do that. Any hints or other ways to do that? Thanks!
press the standby key ?
or (if its included in his rom) go to settings > system > end key and select what you need
PS: not to be offensive or anything, but before asking questions it is always wise to read your manual
Longpress standby... it'll offer to shut down... not to be rude or anything but RTFM!!! (that's what it's printed for...)
I hope this is in the right spot.
I was hoping to ask the awesome developers here if there was any way to add a quick "reboot into recovery" option (a la openeclair) from the power button menu.
I mean, when you long press the power button on the Nexus, you get a dialogue box asking whether you want to reboot regularly or into recovery.
Ideally, this would be able to work on any rom, CM5 especially. For right now, I'm just going to write an apk that strictly does "reboot recovery" because that's the extent of my ability. More on that later.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

i understand your request for the option to be added to the window when long-pressing power button - i'd like that too.
but in terms of "writing an apk that does reboot recover" there is aleady such app (with widget) in the market: Quick Boot

well look at that. thanks, that's cool.
but don't go away devs that doesn't void the OP
Hey, I've found myself a comfortable workaround for the notorious 'helicoptering' home button issue.
(I hope I am the first one to post this kind of a solution)
Of course, you have to be rooted to use this way. If you are not, this is nothing for you.
One of the already known solutions is to completely disable the home button by a flashable zip or by editing one of the system files. This makes your home button completely useless, so you have to find yourself some kind of a replacement (e.g. mapping one of the buttons to Go home on double tap). This is what I don't like so I was looking for another workaround. And I came up with an idea of disabling only the tap action on home button instead of disabling the whole button functionality. Now my home button is set to do nothing on tap and Go home on long press, while the long press timing is set to 0,1 sec, so I don't really have to hold the button for very long.
Since the 'helicoptering' is a simple multiple button tap, I had to disable the double tap action for the home button (this can be done in settings of any kind of AOSP roms). That means my home button is only long press sensitive, it does nothing on tapping.
Of course the way to do it is via Xposed framework (God bless the guy who invented it!) and one of it's modules.
Here it is...
STEP-BY-STEP workaround:
First I have to tell you that I am not responsible for anything you do with your device!
Step 1: Get yourself an Xposed Installer apk file. It can be downloaded HERE. The official Xposed thread is here.
If you have it installed and set-up already, skip to Step 3.
Step 2: Install the apk file you just downloaded and open the app. Go to Framework → (Be careful!) → tap the Install/Update button.
After this process is done, you will be asked to reboot. Confirm and let the phone reboot.
Don't panic, after the phone boots and you see no changes. The Xposed framework itself does nothing. It needs to have modules running.
Step 3: Go to Play Store and install app called Xposed Additions. This is the module that will make the changes. After it's installed, Xposed Framework should warn you in the notification area that you have an Xposed module that is not active and it will ask you to Activate and reboot. Do it!
If you don't get this warning notification, do it manually: Open the Framework Installer → Modules → tick the Xposed Additions box and then reboot the device.
Step 4: Now you have to set-up the Xposed Additions module. Open the Xposed Additions app → Buttons → Add new Key → tap the Home button (it will only mark which button you chose) → hit OK → new item will appear under the Add new Key → tap the Home item → Add new Condition → Screen On → tick the Click box to activate the action → tap the Click button and scroll down until you find Disabled and tap this option → tick the Long Press box → tap the Long Press button and choose Home option.
Optional: You can also do the same to Double or even Triple actions if you get the Pro version of Xposed Additions.
Step 5 (Optional): In Xposed Additions → Buttons section you can shorten your Long press delay - to make your long press quicker.
Step 6: Get used to it...
And... ignore occasional home button vibrating of the dead 'helicoptering' which no longer sends your device back HOME.
That's it. I have been running this for at least 24 hours and it works. The only thing that bothers me is occasional 'helicopter' vibrating, but it's no longer sending my phone back to homescreen.
I hope this helps. If so, then hit the THANKS button, please!
Hello all,
Recently the power button on my Nexus 5 has been acting really weird. Sometimes it works flawlessly, others it requires pressing it really hard to work. In order to prevent it to stop working indefinetely, I am looking for a way to remap my volume-up button so it can work as a power button. I don't need it to turn my phone on or to work in the recovery mode (from what I read, it seems to be impossible), only when Android is running.
I've already tried some workarounds:
1) Volume Unlock Power Button Fix app: I tried it, but it just allowed me to turn on my phone with volume but not turning off. Also, it drains a LOT of power.
2) Buttonremapper app: It would theoretically do exactly what I wanted, but did not work at all.
3) Editing generic.kl: I tried switching volume-up and power buttons codes in generic.kl, but also did not work. Maybe I need to modify another file?
3) Xposed Framework + Additions: The installation of Xposed went Ok, but after installing Additions module I got stucked in bootloop. I am running Android 5.1 stock, maybe this module is not yet compatible.
So, can anyone help me? Do I need to install a custom ROM?
PS: I live outside US, so no warranty for me. Otherwise I would just use it
Thanks in advance for any help!
Cheers,
Humberto
Hi folks,
Just a heads up for anyone who might be facing the same issue. I decided to change from stock to Cataclysm ROM due to some specific features (listed below). After the installation, here's what I did to work around this problem:
1) Enabled "Volume wake" and "Sleep button on status bar" in "Cataclysm Settings / Miscellaneous".
2) Enabled "Swipe to sleep" and resized NavBar to 115% in "Cataclysm Settings / Navigation bar options". -> This way I can swipe in NavBar at any time (except lockscreen) to turn off screen. I raised it a little to facilitate the swipe gesture.
3) Changed Lockscreen Dialer shortcut to ""Turn off Screen" app shortcut (just search for it in the play store) in "Cataclysm Settings / Lockscreen options" -> This allows me to just swipe right and turn off the screen when my security settings are disabled (which accounts for most of the time). I found it way faster than pressing sleep button in status bar, especially when I'm driving and I can't look at the screen. Plus, I don't really use the dialer function of my phone so often since the invention of Whatsapp ;P
I realize this is not the perfect solution, but I don't see a better way to deal with this power button malfunction problem (except from a hardware fix).
Hope this helps!
Cheers,
Humberto
PS: I am really enjoying Cataclysm. It's a very nice ROM, completely stable and with a lot of other interesting features aside from the ones mentioned above. I strongly encourage anyone to give it a try!
I'm facing the exact same problem but I really need to eliminate the power button or I will need a power button fix soon.
The solutions you found hthiengo are good if not needing to turn off (or worst: running out of battery, something that happens me sometimes). I'm in the situation that next time I hit power button I will need to replace the button, or throw the nexus away
I did installed the xposed additions for lollipop but it is not working, and the Cataclysm trick is not enough in this case
Ok, after some research I've found a temporary solution:
For the power button you can remap modifying the file gpio-keys.kl under system/usr/keylaout (i wonder why anyone could figure out thise before, no that difficult). I would like to map power button leeaving it useless but I've found it impossible to remap the power button (probably because the key number is not 116). I would have liked to see xposed additions to help me map the keys but is not functional at least for me.
If the phone runs out of battery I've found that if I plug the power cable by pressing both volume buttons at the same time, eventually it starts up with the bootloader so I can plug the pc cable and it will reboot sucessfully.
So despite the phone know is pretty disfunctional (not the best phone for a hurry without battery), I can still use it for some weeks before I plan buying a new one or something (or I find a place for reparing). Its a shame I could not find a better solution for example, ADT when powered off so I could just reboot it by using ADT reboot command while powered off.
And It would be really amazing if the volume up button could also power it on from the powered off state.
In my case the power button is broken, but sometimes it gets stuck and puts the phone in a reboot loop: To avoid pressing the power button accidentally I've made a hole in the protective case so its pretty difficult to access it.
That's all for now. If anyone can make it better I will be glad to hear him/her
