Turn off? - Touch Cruise General

Might be a dumm question, but how can you turn off the Touch Cruise (I'm using bepe's rom 0.63 at the moment)? With the oem rom, you'd press the 'end' key and it would display a list of what to do, and there was an option to shut down the phone. Now there's no option to do that. Any hints or other ways to do that? Thanks!

press the standby key ?
or (if its included in his rom) go to settings > system > end key and select what you need
PS: not to be offensive or anything, but before asking questions it is always wise to read your manual

Longpress standby... it'll offer to shut down... not to be rude or anything but RTFM!!! (that's what it's printed for...)

A newly found hidden menu

I had my universal put in my car holder, and apparently it was too snug and it held the backlight button clicked, when i had just soft reset.
The normal boot image came on, but this time a new menu appeared, instead of loading the OS!
It gave me 3 Options:
Enable KILT: NO
Clean Registry Hive: NO
Format Storage: NO
Controlling the menu is really strange:
the UP key scrolls the menu,
the DOWN key enables/disables the selected option,
and the ACTION key appears to start the selected options.
Not knowing how to control the menu, i accedently turned on the KILT option and clicked the action key, which gave me a new submenu, letting me choose the KILT transport method (USB, etc..), and KILT mode (Active or Passive)
i searched for "KILT" on the other forums, and its already a known option apparently, on the hermes forums especially.
They appear to use it to flash corrupted radio versions ("NO GSM" messages), and for other purposes also, mainly rescuing a bricked phone!
I can see how the "Clean registry hive" can be a useful option though, like when you screw up registry entries, making your os unable to load - you can clean the registry before doing a hard reset, so maybe you'd have a chance to save and backup your data.
Can anyone tell us more about this menu, or the KILT mode?
This menu was already known
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=865099&postcount=26
That post is from 10-01-2006
I think it's even mentioned in the Wiki page:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Technical
Although it says camera+reset, think it should be backlight+reset
hmm, i see.
i don't know why i haven't found it earlier when i searched the forum.
but is there anything useful that can be done with the KILT options, as they do with hermes?
KITL is usefull if the OS wont boot, that about it.
it allows you to see the wince kernel log while it boots so if you have a phone that wont boot this can help you find out why ;D
No GSM!!! can KITL help?
this seems to be a good news for me....
i'm having this problem of NO GSM on my UNIVERSAL on startup. so it is bricked now. Can this KITL help in getting my Radio ROM to life again???

well there's this thread i found, but its for hermes:

be careful, hermes and universal are very different.
read this to get information only, i really dont recommend trying this on your universal without someone who know what he's doing helping you.
good luck
anyone can tell me how to disable this menu in the booting?
just dont press the buttons

with does power off equal hide all apps

I'd really like to be able to put my device to sleep, without having to background whatever app I'm using.
It's very strange. I don't think I've seen another phone that doesn't have a separate power button, from the exit this app button.
Any ideas?
Hmm.
No one has any idea?
I know that riddled throughout this board there are probably a half a dozen apps to turn off your phone, and activate the keylock. Does anyone have any suggestions for some good ones, that I could then assign to the "hold and run" button on the left of the Treo?
Ones that work with WM6?
I'm really surprised that other people don't even seem to want or care about this. The only real advantage of WM6 over PalmOS .. to me... are things like multitasking.
What good is a phone that won't let you keep an app on the screen? Why would I want to constantly have to bring apps to the front again and again and again? I want to be able to turn off my phone, turn it on.. make an entry in an app, and turn it off again, all without opening and closing the app.
Gee.. how strange!
WM devices are 'Today' screen based, hence it automatically switch back to Today screen after a set period of time. You can't change this 'habbit', but you can prolong the period of time.
Start -> Settings -> Personal -> Today -> Items -> Today timeout

This has nothing to do with what I'm asking about, but it is helpful info. However, my today option has the ability to turn off the today timeout altogether. Perhaps it is WM6 based?
Regardless, I'm talking.. again.. about the screen off button of the treo.. that is also the exit button, that is also the end call button.

Lets quote what you have said above. "What good is a phone that won't let you keep an app on the screen? Why would I want to constantly have to bring apps to the front again and again and again? I want to be able to turn off my phone, turn it on.. make an entry in an app, and turn it off again, all without opening and closing the app."
If you turn off the timeout, the last app will stay when you switch off your phone (e.g. the Today will not appear and sending your app background).
If this REALLY doesnt have NOTHING to do with what you are asking for, I surrender and good luck on your quest.

I had two separate posts above, and of course they are related in this thread. Context, my man. My first post clearly talks about how my issue is with the power button, and how my issue has to do with the power button forcing you back to the today screen before it will let you power off the unit.
Fair enough, you missed my first post, and only read my second post in this same thread. No harm done.
I am also mystified why the power button constantly forces screen back to Home....I would think this is a real pain for most people??
Any fixes/hacks?
TIA
To do what you want, there's an usefull application: AE Button Plus (http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php) This small applicacion allows you to remap buttons. To switch off the screen what I've done is assign the action "switch off device"

I tried AEBP but this only seems to "Switch Display On/Off" during a phone call, NOT when in an application.
I don't see a "Switch Off Device" option. Did I miss something?

I found "Power off" (I think it was called that) in the list of options to assign to a button. I assigned it to "hold side button", one click. My device now shuts off when I hold that button in.
Thanks to the dude that suggested this! Now to see how it affects my device...

where is the Start - Settings - System Key Lock?

hi, i can't seem to find keylock application that locks all hardware buttons but power when device is on sleep mode. have you got it on yours? i had it on my old tytn II
do you have a
settings->buttons->lock ?
no. have you? i've got only Program buttons, Up/Down Control and backlight tabs there
hmm...you mean setting up a lock to turn off all keys until you hit Unlock then confirm by tapping the key on the screen?
Press and hold the "End" button and that locks the device.
It is configured under start>setting>Long key press.
MIGHT NOT be the thing you are meaning though.
no, you know when you pres power button phone goes sleep mode? there should be a setting where you can decide if you want to allow other hardware buttons wake phone from sleep or other wise.
currently which ever hw button i press phone wakes up i.e send (green) button, terminate call (red button) or action (round) button.
this is no good when phone in your pocket. a small touch to any of them wakes phone up. i thought it is standart wm option as i had it since wizard
Hmm, when i power off the only thing which will power back on is pressing the power button, opening the keyboard or removing the stylus?
I've just got a touch pro and when I power off, no other buttons will wake up the phone.
That being said, I still have my Tytn II and the Key Lock application is found under Start...Settings...System...Key Lock. The Long Key Press app is not what you're after.
It seems strange that your Touch Pro wakes up on any button push. Maybe you need to change a registry setting instead?
wierd ; on mine apart from those, any button powers it up. only config tool i used is advanced confing and there isint any setting regarding this on that tool

do you know which key i should change?
On touch Pro there is no Keylock option in the settings.
Only way how to activate the device is to:
1. press power button
2. open the keyboard
3. take out the stylus
There is no config like on the HTC Touch/Diamond.
I've contacted Julien Schapman, vendor of advanced config and asked him to add this settings to his application.
this is his answer:
Ok I will look at it when I could get a Touch Pro.
Best regards,
Julien Schapman.
So I hope his new version will have this settings. This is really missing.
But maybe someone is able to export this registry path on the HTC Diamond:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\OEM\KEYBD
there should me something like
"KeyLock"=dword:1
Or maybe another. I don't know.

very cool app to unlock and lock the phone.
Tested and works on touch pro.
I'll be replacing S2U2 with this!

Unpack it and put enywhere (in example: "Windows" or "Program Files" and run).

Keep fuze from turning off the screen during call?

Ok new annoying problem. Has anyone noticed that when you call your voice mail by the time you are ready to delete the message the damn screen is off and you have to wake it back up with the power button?
Is there a way to keep the screen from turning off? or for it to wake up when you take it away from your ear?
Im guessing the light sensor is turning it off when its next to your ear so your face dosent "push buttons". Thats merely just a guess I really have no clue. I guess it could just be a timer thing.

This is the same problem with Tilt
This was the same problem with the tilt and I'm amazed it is still in the fuze as HTC released a hotfix for the tilt. They must have known it was an issue all along.
Maybe the tilt hotfix would work on the fuze?

I installed it the same advance config it shows the option on the list on the website. but its def not on the list on the phone. :-(
watching...
any new ideas?
search for diamond tweak or advance config.....the option is there. just disable sleep and fast sleep.
Can anyone verify that the latest Diamond Tweak will work on the AT&T Fuze default ROM. I know I can always hard reset, but I have my phone setup and working just about the way I want.

i used the Diamond Tweak and disabled both Fast Sleep, and Sleep.
Doesn't turn off during calls now.
I can confirm that Advanced Config on my stock Fuze does NOT have those options
Used Diamond Tweaks to do it
I emailed HTC support about this issue. Here is there response.
"We do apologize for your frustration, however there is no possible way to keep the screen lit up while on a call as it is like that for a purpose. the purpose is to avoid the pressing of the on screen buttons while on a call. If you would like to reactivate the screen while on a call you can simply press the power button and it will wake the screen backup."
It would be nice to have the phone behave exactly like an iphone during a call. Using the accelerometer to turn on and off the screen.
I already searched and found what I believe to be the diamond tweak you are all talking about...
But just to be sure, would someone mind linking to it, so I know I'm using the same thing that worked for you guys?
Thanks
I tried Diamond Tweak with my phone and it does not work for me.
Diamond Tweak works on my fuze.
This tip doesn't help the Fuze screen "stay on" but it can be used to at least turn the screen on easier while in call. Just hit the volume key (up or down) and the screen will pop back on. For a moment it shows the volume setting but then goes back to the home screen. I'm not using the TouchFlo shell so in my case it pops back to my home screen.
try a search in this forum for a file called No_Sleep_Raph
There is a catch you will loose mute phone on flip.
I would like to see this regedit as a program so you can turn it on or off rather then default on. Cause I keep hitting the screen buttons during a call

Getting rid of WM6 backlight dimming?

Hi,
Is it posible to disable backlight dimming in WM6?
I don't want to send the device go to standby, just turn off it's backlight, let me give you an example:
In WM5, where backlight dimming was not implemented yet, i was using this:
Sleep mode settings: both disabled,
Backlight: both enabled (battery and external),
Device lock enabled on today screen.
This way i could 'wake' the device just by tapping on the screen or on any button, and the next step being unlocking it. The battery consumption in this mode is almost the same as with using standby mode. And another big benefit was much more stability in the OS and other applications because the system was never going into real standby. And of corse wifi and other things could remain on while in this 'standby' mode. Also, imagine using S2U2 in this mode...
But.. this scenario is no more posbile in WM6, because backlight does not go off anymore, but instead it dimms, leading to a fast battery consumption.
Moreover, device lock function become useless.
Someone sugested ScreenOff (or blackme) /and ScreenOn. Leaving alone that this would be a 'manual' solution, you can't tap on screen after using screenoff because screen is completely off, not only the backlight, and tapping does nothing.
This topic was first opened in Developement section and is now closed, but if you want to read it, here it is:

thnx alot for your help
Bump to keep this thread alive because I would really rather my phone working like that and have locking being actually useful. Because what's the point of locking your phone when it's gonna power off by itself anyway?
Hope people can come up with a solution soon. Maybe a registry edit to make the dim go to 0%.

thnx for support
I agree we need to get rid of dimming. Because that way S2U2 or any other lock program make no sense. I must first turn on the device then unlock. So locking is not needed because device is turned off.
I believe we should wake up microsoft to make a patch or an update or something about it.
If a general poll be posted i believe all the wm users would like - want this feature.
and maybe the admins as the xda community could declare our statement to microsoft.
What do you think?

thnx for the pool, the results seem favorable to us,
i was thinking, wm 6.5 will be out next year, maybe we are lucky and this will be fixed in it..?
I use S2U2 and I have it set to 'blank screen only' after 10 seconds. This means that by running s2u2.exe (which is mapped to a long press on a hardware button) it leaves the device locked with the screen off, but not suspended.

In the s2u2 settings, in the battery power section, 'Power Off in' is set to 10seconds, and 'but Blank Screen only' is set to ON.
I've assigned s2u2.exe to a hardware button using 'spb pocket plus', although if you want a free package which does that, you'll have to search around.
