Its teh effin data! - T-Mobile LG G2x

Ok so without a doubt it is most definitely the data that is so massively draining the battery.
I have always been using juice defender to turn off data when my screen is off but I would still be at around 70% battery after about 4 1/2 hours of it just sitting in my pocket while I'm working.
I uninstalled juice defender and just placed a beautiful widgets data toggle on my main home screen, turning off data manually when not in use.
The results? I unplugged my phone at 6:47am this morning and I'm sitting here at a tattoo shop at 2:20am tonight with still 50% battery..and thats with plenty of texting, phone calls, some internet browsing and about an hour of music playback.
Hell yes.

No clue why juice defender doesn't show the same results. :|

That's standard behavior for any phone. If you don't have data enabled then you basically have a pretty paperweight sitting there.

Yeah and I even noticed that when I power my phone off the battery lasts for weeks!!! Turns out that having the phone turned on actually will drain the battery! Who knew?! ........ <sarcasm off>

You know, it's weird, i originally tried toggling data off, and I still got terrible drain. Ever since I installed a toggle switch for edge to 4g, battery life has been amazing.

Yeah, the modem in this phone hammers the battery similar to how wimax affects sprint phones. I don't know why though, seeing as howl my g2s modem was rated the same 14.4 mbps throughput as the g2x... I hope they update the baseband and make the phone idle better, because after hammering the battery for a bit I noticed that it stays warm after going into my pocket...

I'm loving the sarcasm in this thread..lol
But my main point is the massive difference between juice defender "automatically turning off data" and just doing it manually.
Sent from my G2x running Bionix 2 with the power of Trinity.

The OP is right, the data connection must be directly related to battery drain issues many of us are experiencing.
I turned on my Wifi, but left the Wifi calling feature off since I do not need it (I have unlimited everything anyways), and used the phone as normal today. I woke up just before 7am for the Formula One race and unplugged the phone at that time. With Wifi on, thus no 4g, regular texting, two calls under 5 minutes each, about ten minutes of web browsing and maybe twenty minutes in and out of Twitter for various updates, the phone was sitting at 70% at 3pm.
Usually, by 3pm I have plugged my phone in at least once, or the battery would be well below 40%...if not dead. I have not tried using only 2g because that is not what I bought the phone for.

Phone in pocket is a battery killer as well.

It's called switch pro. I don't understand why my phone still trained with data off, but with the 4g edge switch, I can go forever with a charge.

My battery life!

I'm having a great overall experience with the Inspire 4G w/ CM7. Just wanted to show you guys some screenshots of the battery life I'm getting so far. These shots I took after a day of heavy usage, including a few hours of net browsing, texting, and e-mails.

Hey try using juice defender or current widget to exceed your current battery life. Both control which apps that are eating up your battery. Kills the non needed ones.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
i've seen all the complaints about battery life but i must say mine is more than adequate. maybe because for the first 4 days i had the phone, after charging it for 10+hrs, i ran the battery all the way to 0 (til it shutdown), recharged to full, then drained it again.
it was my old habit from my nokia days.
Yeah, to be honest, this is equal to or better than the battery life I was getting with my Captivate. I can tell you with an absolute certainty that the battery did have to "break in" for a short period, after installing CM7.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Its deff better than captivate, 99% due to the screen. I got over 5 hours screen on time in a 16 hour period the other day with my rom/kernel combo with screen brightness at about 40-50%. That's pretty damn good, way better than the captivate could ever get
On my LG Ally i was lucky to get 6-8 hours with just light use. With the Inspire on cm7 i have gotten around 20ish hours with moderate to high use.
I'm still shocked that i am able to get that much battery life. lol
I'm still breaking my Captivate records. I took my phone off the charger @ 7:00am on Wednesday the 20th. I'm now at 15%.
What roms are you guys running. Im on coredroid 5.4. I get about 20 h with moderate use. I consider it to be pretty good. But no way can I get over like 30 h. I don't like to use juice defender or setcpu. Don't feel like I should use apps that override android os. Especially GB is so will optimized and efficient.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
I'm on CM7 and only wish I could get the battery you guys are talking about. I just went from 93% to 90% in a matter of minutes doing nothing on the phone. It was sitting on my desk!

Not at all. It's my personal and work cell, so I talk, text, surf, and play games what I would consider a moderate amount. I don't use a large overclock. I use the smart ass governor on Leedroid's most recent rom, and my screen brightness at 1/3.
There are days that I can put it tonthe test, but my first charge got me 35 hours with 5 hours awake time.
That's it? I got this a while ago and that's before I did some optimizations... I'm going to see what it can pull this weekend before it hits the 15% warning.
Apparently I can't add images until I get some more posts.

[Q] Intriguing Battery use.

After a full charge to 100%, my battery reports that it holds that 100% charge even through heavy usage, for up to 30 minutes. Anybody else noticing this weird easter-egg?
I noticed this too

I've heard that it's only a good idea to wipe battery stats when the battery's fully charged, not before.

Definately something strange going on.
I charged my phone up fully last night, took it off charge and went to bed.
This was the battery usage in the morning. Trying to work out why it shows awake and screen on for the entire time.

That's a misleading image.
What that data means is this: of all the energy expended DURING THE NIGHT(according to the photo 1-2%) the energy lost was because the phone was awake at some point, and the screen was on. It DOES NOT mean that your phone was awake/screen on all night. Just that the energy lost during the night was because the phone was awake/screen on for a miniscule portion of the night (somebody texted you or something). Nothing to be distraught over.

Battery Life All Over The Place?

Hey guys,
So its been about 3 week since I've had the SG3 and I love it, everything except the battery life.
My battery life varies alot day from day which is really weird.
I have LTE on (but i'm either at the office or home, so wifi is usually connected instead), background sync on, GPS off, Bluetooth off,NFC off, about 25% brightness and power saver mode on at all times.
Somehow it seems that when in standby and not in use it drains more battery than when in use and using LTE instead of WiFi.
For example today, full charge since 8am, and I'm at 38%..(It's only 3:30). This is being on WiFi for 90% of that time and only occasionally texting and checking twitter/facebook/email.
Your experiences?
My GS3 gets great battery life (well, at least compared to my old D2G lol...). 5 hours and 20minutes off the charger, and I'm at 65%. But mind you, my screen has been on for nearly two hours of that, and I've been on the internet/in a call for 30mins of that, and texting for the remainder. People seem to be getting mixed results as far as battery, it's just one of those quirks. There's actually already a thread going about battery life.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776580
My battery life was pretty awesome. I can get through a whole day with no issues
But when I am at work and tethering, definitely leave it plugged in.
Just flashed beans rom v3 and my battery life took a hit.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Hmm interesting.
The screens only been on for 54 minutes of the 8 hours 11 minutes the phones been off the charger.
For some reason when I'm about and using LTE and constantly calling/txting/tweeting and what not I have better battery life than sitting at home or at the office on wifi and using the phone less.
Yeah my battery life is also very inconsistent. Just sitting at home on my desk it will sometimes drop only a few 3% over several hours and sometimes it will drop 35%. I haven't been able to figure out any contributing factors yet. I do get terrible cell reception at home but I keep it on wifi, and the above examples are when the phone is sitting in the same place.
consistantly 20 hours with 4 hours screen time on and usually with still 25-30% battery left. Always on 4G never on wifi. Never have battery saver on.
Only thing I do have is a setcpu profile for screen off that severely limits the cpu.

I have only had my S3 for 2 weeks, but I have been able to easily get a full day out of the battery. I typically have about 1 hour talk time, 2-3 hours wifi and maybe an hour of 4G web surfing.
I do have the battery saver mode on (not sure how much of a difference it makes) and I generally don't charge during the day.
Mine is also very inconsistent. When it is just in my pocket it lasts a really long time 12-18 hours, but if I'm doing something simple like listening to music with the screen off, from the sd card it dies in half that time.
When I'm home and connected to WiFi I have been turning off mobile data. Whenever I wake my phone up from sleep it notifies me at the bottom of the screen "connected to my wifi network". So I don't know if the WiFi goes off in sleep mode, if that's the case then it normally would be connecting in and out of 3g/4g hadn't I turned off mobile data.
I've also been very religious about fully closing apps instead of just hitting the home button. Also using task manager to clear out running processes and ram
Both of these seemed to help out tremendously

My understanding is that the battery drops fairly rapidly from 100% to 95% before stabilizing to a slower, more controlled drop

It might be because you are in cell standby a lot, are you in a low signal area majority of the time? Checking for signal 41% of the time, might account for the battery decreasing so fast.
It also seems that the international phones are getting a firmware update to address cell standby battery drain, but I don't know if it pertains to us in the U.S. http://blog.gadgethelpline.com/samsung-seeds-firmware-update-fix-cell-standby-battery-drain/

No, usually most phones will charge to 100 then stop charging and let the battery drain a little, many phones down to 90 then recharge again. That way it doesn't harm that battery.
Now personally I always preferred trickle charging where the phone pulls just enough that it doesn't drain at all, but there has always been debates on if this destroys your battery faster.

So currently have it on. Its suppose to use very little battery, but my WiFi keeps showing up on my battery useage with it normally at the 2nd/3rd highest battery drain. Has anyone done any testing with it on and off yet? I'm curious if they actually see a noticeable difference between the two.

Leaving WiFi on will always have a detrimental effect on battery use. More so if it's constantly scanning and not connected to anything.

You know I'm not talking about having the actual WiFi on itself right? I'm talking about in the advanced settings where it will use it to determine location when needed. Google added this feature saying it will improve accuracy and have very little effect on battery at all.
