Hey guys,
So its been about 3 week since I've had the SG3 and I love it, everything except the battery life.
My battery life varies alot day from day which is really weird.
I have LTE on (but i'm either at the office or home, so wifi is usually connected instead), background sync on, GPS off, Bluetooth off,NFC off, about 25% brightness and power saver mode on at all times.
Somehow it seems that when in standby and not in use it drains more battery than when in use and using LTE instead of WiFi.
For example today, full charge since 8am, and I'm at 38%..(It's only 3:30). This is being on WiFi for 90% of that time and only occasionally texting and checking twitter/facebook/email.
Your experiences?
My GS3 gets great battery life (well, at least compared to my old D2G lol...). 5 hours and 20minutes off the charger, and I'm at 65%. But mind you, my screen has been on for nearly two hours of that, and I've been on the internet/in a call for 30mins of that, and texting for the remainder. People seem to be getting mixed results as far as battery, it's just one of those quirks. There's actually already a thread going about battery life.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776580
My battery life was pretty awesome. I can get through a whole day with no issues
But when I am at work and tethering, definitely leave it plugged in.
Just flashed beans rom v3 and my battery life took a hit.

Hmm interesting.
The screens only been on for 54 minutes of the 8 hours 11 minutes the phones been off the charger.
For some reason when I'm about and using LTE and constantly calling/txting/tweeting and what not I have better battery life than sitting at home or at the office on wifi and using the phone less.
Yeah my battery life is also very inconsistent. Just sitting at home on my desk it will sometimes drop only a few 3% over several hours and sometimes it will drop 35%. I haven't been able to figure out any contributing factors yet. I do get terrible cell reception at home but I keep it on wifi, and the above examples are when the phone is sitting in the same place.
consistantly 20 hours with 4 hours screen time on and usually with still 25-30% battery left. Always on 4G never on wifi. Never have battery saver on.
Only thing I do have is a setcpu profile for screen off that severely limits the cpu.

I have only had my S3 for 2 weeks, but I have been able to easily get a full day out of the battery. I typically have about 1 hour talk time, 2-3 hours wifi and maybe an hour of 4G web surfing.
I do have the battery saver mode on (not sure how much of a difference it makes) and I generally don't charge during the day.
Mine is also very inconsistent. When it is just in my pocket it lasts a really long time 12-18 hours, but if I'm doing something simple like listening to music with the screen off, from the sd card it dies in half that time.
When I'm home and connected to WiFi I have been turning off mobile data. Whenever I wake my phone up from sleep it notifies me at the bottom of the screen "connected to my wifi network". So I don't know if the WiFi goes off in sleep mode, if that's the case then it normally would be connecting in and out of 3g/4g hadn't I turned off mobile data.
I've also been very religious about fully closing apps instead of just hitting the home button. Also using task manager to clear out running processes and ram
Both of these seemed to help out tremendously

i have learned that many rom characters show it will protect a high battery life, my usual battery life is 48h,is it normal!i'm using jvp rom right now,if u think your battery life is longer could u show me how to do ,i just use the rom with the screen on at most 5h one day

Its's a smart phone, if you get more than 24 hours from your battery be thankful, if not, carry a spare.
Well I disagree,
my phone has been 3 days, 22 hours 15 minutes on the same charge.
It depends on the rom you use, signal strength etc.
I would suggest you trying the Tweaky Final ROM (JVP).
Good luck!
I think the most important relationship about the battery life are
signal strength and monitor usage. If only standby in the good signal environment
more than 2 days is easy.
if you use mobile internet battery drops fast....uncheck that option when you are not using it....and you will get a better battery life

You not using your phone at all.
I really do not understand why people buying smartphone if they are not using it. In stand-by you can have just mobile phone. Smartphone is for using and using, not for stand-by unless you are very wealthy person and can afford to by a smartphone to keep it in stand-by. I am using momax 2700mAh battery and I never managed to get more then 24-35 hours of moderate usage. I never turn off GPS,BlueTooth,Wi-Fi,3G. Screen is on 100% brightness all the time(I payed money for SAMOLED and I want it to be sharp and bright). 1-2 hours of music through Bluetooth audio in my car, Internet, EBAY, YouTube, Facebook. 30-60 min of calls, several texts, gmail sync auto, weather sync every 2 hours and 20-30 min of ANGRY-BIRDS and something else.
I am glad that I can use it and not keep it in stand-by mode.
i m using galnet 2.2
with moderate usage and 2g only i barely can survive 24 hours
brightness is low, no sync
maybe my battery monitor pro is using too much battery?
is gingerbread life better than froyos?...
battery life depends many things like screen brightness, time of use, signal strength, 3G/2G, etc...
When i use the phone not to much and use it on 2G it goes about 3 days. But i have a game uses graphic power and cpu very much and battery drops about 3-4 hours game play time.
Dont worry about battery life so much. Its a smart phone and makes your life easy and fun. If every night you go home, and have a battery charger, just use it every night and have fun
i have got 4 days when using only as a phone and 12 hours when using as a smartphone
Good
I'm getting somwhere between 6 hours an 4 days
:silly:
I found that changing my modem on AOSP ROMs can affect battery life considerably. I tripled or quadrupled my battery life because it cut my several-hour-per-day RILJ wakelocks down to a few minutes per hour. Still not as efficient as a stock ROM, but going from three days of battery life to two for the latest and greatest features is worth it to me.
I'm using CM9 nightly 20120731 with very good battery life. Stock battery (1500mAh) with 3g on, sync on and screen brightness automatic, i can get over 24 hours. 1 day 9 hours 32 mins with same charge.
My battery life...on battery 3000 mAh....

cuz u ain't enabling 3g ! try some heavy usages with 3g and some games or random stuffs.
So I understand battery life is dependent on several factors, but I'm looking for a general number of hours of what's considered "good" battery life for the Inspire. I have looked at a couple different threads around XDA in an attempt to tweak my battery life to the fullest, as a heavy user of text messaging and the occasional use of my data services, but they don't ever seem to give numbers. The following shows my battery life from about 8 this morning until about 4 PM:

So, I'd guess that I would roughly get about 10 hours from a full, overnight charge down to zero. This is using the CM7 Nightly posted here with radio 12.56.60.25U_26.10.04.03_M and the latest TalonACE kernel with the BFS scheduler. So, am I getting good battery life by the standards of my fellow Inspire 4G users? Keep in mind that I live in a bit of a small valley so reception is poor here until I walk up toward my university's campus. Please let me know if I forgot anything; this is not a request for help on tweaking my battery, just whether or not I should look into trying something else to improve it further or if I've hit about my max.
If you don't regularly use data, juice defender will help you alot.
But to answer your question, on average I can get about 20 hours of battery life with 2 - 3 of that being screen on time.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using Tapatalk
I do a good bit of texting as well, about 2 hours of web browsing/gaming/xda-ing, and I work in a metal shop so my phone is always searching for signal. I can make it through a 10 hour work day but have to charge as soon as I get home. While I'm sleeping it only drains about 1% per hour so if I didn't use my phone it would last much longer. I'm running rcmix3d v4.0 with killersloth script. I've personally come to the conclusion that our screens are battery hogs and there isn't much we can do about it. So yea, i'd say your drain is normal.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
If you can make it from when you take it off the charger in the morning to plugging it back in at night without prohibiting your use than that's good battery life for the inspire. I think on average people get 4 min per 1% battery while screen is on. That is if you are being reasonable about brightness. I just use auto bright though and I can make it through the day no problem.
I know for me I get about 12 hours on a heavy usage day but when I use it only for messaging I would say about medium or light usage i get 24-26 hours of battery using CM7 Nightly's And this is with wifi connected 24/7

I have Rcmix Runny 3.3 on my Inspire, with the UV script. I'm a huge texter, and usually text consistently throughout the day. I unplug the phone about 7:45 am on my way to class, go through the day, occasionally connecting to wifi, and make about an hour phone call at night, and by 10 pm I've got anywhere in the 40-50% range of battery left
Seriously? How old is your battery? Also, how good is signal strength where you are? because at my house (small town in southern US), signal absolutely sucks and is switching networks constantly. I left my phone at home one day and after eight hours of screen off idle, the battery was at 68%. If I am in town at school with a three+ bar 3g signal, I can go eight hours at idle and still hav 94% left.
I get on average a battery life of 10 hours, but i'm constantly using my wifi. I do turn it off whenever i leave the house though so it's not constantly searching for a signal
I usually get at least 16 hours from a charge. 3-4 hours listening to music with bluetooth headphones. 2-3 hours screen on time. Phone calls, e-mail, occasional Pandora, etc. I am using Juice Defender ultimate, and have an Anker battery. And I'm on ARHD 6.3.1 with the recommended radio.
I feel that 10 hours is a good minimum benchmark for my phone. I have the screen brightness is set to auto and I get between 12-16 hours on a cheap 1800mAh battery with moderate use.

I'm def a heavy user so I usually get between 12-14hrs out of my battery
Maybe the better pole would be screen time? I get at least 4 hours of on screen time.
I am on the stock ROM. Most of the time i can manage 1 - 3 hours of screen time and 8-12 hours of battery life. Its not terrible but my 2 year old iPhone 3GS seemed to manage better when playing music. I use my phone at work and listen to music for about 6 hours a day with power amp. I also live in a heavy LTE area so most of the time I am on LTE and no wifi which just kills the battery. No power saving either.

I'm a pretty HEAVY user. I typically use is in WiFi, but I'm browsing and messaging a LOT and still constantly messing around with customizations since its brand new for me, and I can get about 20 hours out of it.
Not rooted. Apex Launcher Pro. No data-grubbing widgets.
I can't complain about this battery at all. This is some light to moderate use.

Light to moderate use yielded this!
im running the blazer rom v1.6 , im getting 14-16hrs of heavy use and usually have about 20% left at the end of the day before putting back on the charger and going to bed. wifi and bluetooth on all day also.
This was with moderate use for me...even with heavy use I get well over 14 hours and that's in an area with pair signal
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Moderate use 14 to 16 hours. I usually kill it while in bed playing with it.
Having said that I find heavy camera usage will kill it quite fast and I will have to recharge mid day. It feels abnormally fast but hard to say for sure.
Wow... how are some of the moderate users getting more than 14 hrs? When I don't use it much I get 24 hrs easy, using JuiceDefender and FreeGS ROM.. If I use it moderately it gets ~12, if I stream music from Pandora for around 4 hours it lasts <10

Guys, I saw this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1777226
And yes, I take the subway (to get to work) everyday and notice my battery drains quite rapidely afterwards (7h am to 16h pm without any usage, mainly standby). On weekends, my battery seems to do much better (15-20h moderate usage).
Today I was at 60% at 12h32pm and then 46% at 13h42 without any usage (lte and wifi on, stand by). I rebooted my SG3 at 13h55 while I was at 43%, since then much better, I'm at 40% at 15h12pm.
Anybody experiencing something similar ??

Best battery life on any of my Samsung phones.
Light use, been out with friends. But did a bit of navagation with maps, some forum browsing and quite a bit of texting. But I have to say, much better battery life than the SGS2.
Best battery life of all my Samsung phones so far.
Lasts all day, even with leaving data and WiFi on.
Have to say I am pretty impressed, given battery life of the SGS2 and SGS1.
I am very impressed with the battery life on the phone! I work in an area with little to no service so my phone searches for signal all day. I usually spend about 10 hours at work a day and with moderate use I have enough battery to last all day. If I turn WiFi on phone stops searching and get even better battery life. This is the best phone I have had for battery life. I'm on t-mobile.
thinking about getting my battery swapped if VZW lets me (have had the phone since 7/10).. if not, then get a new one. but before i go into the store, i wanted to see if you guys think this is normal battery life from these screenshots. i have GPS off, Google location on, and only my Google account (Gmail, contacts, calendar) is in sync. i'm running a rooted stock rom (debloated VZW and Samsung apps by me).
in addition, the back of my phone gets really hot during regular data use (web, Facebook, Instagram, Engadget and Verge apps, ESPN, etc.. no games), to the point where it's uncomfortable to hold. i've heard that there might be a batch of bad batteries for the earlier shipments, so i was wondering if mine might be one of them. thanks for any input.

Do you have 4G on at all times? I think my battery might be pretty bad too...I've been losing 10% every hour, so my phone pretty much lasts only 10-12 hours. I'm impressed by your 1 day battery life. Even if I have wifi only on and turn 4g off, I still only get 10% every hour. I think something might be wrong with my battery...I've factory reset it many times before too, wiping cache, and dalviks, I'm now on the stripped rooted stock.
that's not bad battery life. Especially sense it looks like you are not in great coverage area.

haven't had a proper measurement of the temp, but it feels like it does reach the upper 90s, and that's with light web browsing, so that's what worried me.
it's just that i see people who claim "heavy use" and get 4+ hours of screen time, which i found hard to believe, if they really are pushing the phone a lot, so i just thought maybe something's up with mine. thanks for all the input so far.
Looking at your battery consumption log, I'd say your battery life is pretty great.
Seeing as how your cell standby is 50%, you're either using a lot of 4G or you're in a crappy signal area. Or both. Haha.
Even if you buy a new battery, chances are that you won't get better battery life. Just charge the phone overnight and unplug in the morning. As a general rule of thumb, if you can squeeze 16 hours of usage out of your phone, you're doing pretty great.
yup, that seems pretty darn good to me. I get about the same 4G coverage as you with Verizon in my home 2-3 bars max (-100 to -120dBm), and I get ~14 hours before my phone is about to die. I also think I just use my phone a lot more than you lol. You only had 2.45 min of on screen time in a little over 1 day. I usually have close to that in the 12-14 hour days with my phone.
Agree with last two post...what else are you looking for looks good....
Should I ask for a new battery? 3 hours 30 minutes 30 min screen time and down to 67% battery.

Hi,
After using Better Battery Stats I found that while at work the open wifi for guests and employee devices is causing my phone to not sleep - specifically the wlan_rx_wake wakelock. I did run shark and analyzed with wireshark and can see that my phone is responding to/waking up for every other device on that network (my office has over 5,000 individuals in it so presumably there's pretty close to that many connecting). So today I "forgot" the open wifi network and only used mobile data. no more wlan_rx_wake.
However I only got about 20 hours of battery...not sure if thats good or not...that included a 30 min lunch break at the gym with runtastic and iheart radio running - on the gym's open wifi.
Below are some screen prints of BBS at the end of the day (I unplugged last night 3/25 at about 9pm...and I have wifi and data set to be turned off via tasker from 11pm till 6:30 am every night so my phone doesn't blink all night when it gets messages - it's right next to me) It's also running the SUPERLIGHTROM v3.
Any thoughts or comments on how to extend the battery life is welcome!

I wondered if it was. I've considered the zero lemon battery but not sure that I want the increased size.
I've gotten better battery life before by using tasker to turn off/on wifi and mobile data every 30 min or whenever I turn on the screen.
I'm contemplating upgrading to a LG G2 or a Moto X (2014) just for the battery because there's nothing that they do that I need that the S3 doesn't already satisfy.
