Wow i came from the thunderbolt. I like the weight and screen of the Charge. But the software is just horrible!!! Another Fascinate in the making. And holly cow is the browser complete garbage. Even if i use a 3rd party it has the same problems.
I called verizon and they say its not an issue haha. I might get the incredible 2 instead.
Also 4g as of now is way overrated!! Well because works sporadically.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
I'm with you on the software, but who really uses the stock browser?
4G is definitely sporadic, but its pretty amazing when it works, IMO.

Fascinate was a great phone for me.. This one not so much. I'm probably going to return this thing today
I just came from the Thunderbolt, for a reason. My Thunderbolt has been a nightmare since day 1. Battery issues, multiple reset issues, no data found issues. don't get me started on the Thunderbolt. The only thing I like more about the Thunderbolt is the solid build. However, the Thunderbolt software is ten times more flawed than the Droid Charge. Very happy I ditched the Thunderbolt in time to do a straight exchange for the Charge.
What exactly are your issues with the stock browser? I have yet to see a problem.
Holy smokes people getting mad cause i said software sux? Wow
The browser is non responsive while scrolling or using pinch to zoom. Browser is dealbreaker especially cause of cost of data.
As fas 4g goes yes when its working its great. But the 3g to 4g handoff is bad vice versa.
Anyone else hate the browbish colors of UI?
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
I came from the Incredible and so far the T-Bolt and Inc 2 are looking better every day. Aside from the screen and 4g (when working), I can't find anything redeeming about the phone so far. This coupled with my fears over Samsung's spotty update history are really pushing me towards returning my charge.
Install launcher pro. Its not hideous like the default launcher and it can hide the bloatware.
I put launcherpro on. I love it but its the browser thats garbage. And 3rd party browsers have same problem

I agree that all other browsers suck. On everyone android phone I had when you double tap an article it auto formats it to fit the screen. But not with the Droid Charge! POS
Opera mobile is the best for the Charge, smooth scrolling and fast but wont load all images on large heavy sites.. Thats when I use Miren
Yeah i like 3rd party browsers...... I meant that none work well on the charge. But whats killing me is..... i like the design of the charge over the thunderbolt..... Just fix the Touchwiz man......
Samsung is the worst man!!!! Id wait for a dual core 4g but im scared if i do that ill miss on the unlimited data plan.

The performance of the phone pretty much sucks it seems. My question is. . is it a hardware or software issue?
I love my charge. Battery life is great, screen is awesome, and it is fast. I agree though that the colors are terrible. Here's what I modified and mine runs smooth as silk:
1: Install a rooted Rom.
2: install titanium backup
3: remove bloatware
4: install ADW Launcher
5: install and use Opera Mobile. Seriously, its wicked fast.
Opera mobile is my favorite. But touchwiz makes the phone slow and clunky. Also anyone notice that when you hit power button to shut screen on and off its a slow shuttery fade?
A true working asop or custom Working Rom never came to fascinate will it come to charge?
Theme / skin Rom. ... I don't count these if touchwiz is what Rom is based off of.

Thank God for 3rd party launchers. I can't stand Sense and I have given it every chance as well. Apart from the extremely annoying frequent Sense reboots the phone lags and things feel slower than on my old Incredible. Just switching from Sense to LauncherPro without changing anything else I get back over 50MB of RAM. That's ridiculous, talk about bloat.
I still haven't s-off my phone yet but I'm starting to consider it. Especially when we get stable builds from Cyanogen.

I have been using ADW on it since I got it. I hate Sense and always have. To much eye candy for no apparent reason. Ill take function over form any day of the week.
By the way, I just switched everyone from the other thread regarding this same topic over to ADW from LP and gave them my settings. The 5 that did all agree that ADW is faster than LP with the correct settings. Also, the free version of ADW will not be as fast due to it not having a lot of the settings. You have to purchase ADW EX in order to feel the speed.

I can't figure it out but my phone hates Sense. Even after I uninstalled the Good for Enterprise app which I thought was causing the issues Sense starts slowing down and then craps out after a little while. It literally restarts Sense after every app install or update or even uninstall. I don't think its a memory issue only because there's plenty free but it doesn't happen right after a reboot either. I can't figure it out but it definitely seems like something is leaking memory or corrupting Sense.
When is T-Mobile releasing our update? I'm good using LP for now but it'd be nice to have a proper functioning stock launcher as an option as well.

I was running ADW EX for a few days. It was fast as ****, but I missed the Sense 3.0. Widgets and interface. My phone has no lag at all and works perfect with Sense as well. If it was laggy, I would definitely drop it for ADW. My brother uses Launcher Pro and is a big fan. To each his own.
Totally agree, to each his own.
For me ... this phone is totally usable with Sense...
Each launcher has it's pluses and minuses. There are quite a few alternatives to Sense widgets but none has completely done it for me. Same goes for HTC's apps, especially People/Phone and Email apps.
The major problem with Sense 3 was the many frequent Launcher restarts, which is almost solved now with the custom rom I'm using (CrystalPyramid), been using it for 3 days and it's been as fast as can be for me. I really can't be happier with my Sensation now.
The only two things I really miss about other launchers are changing home number of rows and resizable widgets.

I was already pretty happy with LP's performance on my phone, but a couple of experiments with those tweaks made it even better for me. Hopefully it'll make things a little rosier for you too? That is, if you're even interested in LP anymore
I would get the white screen with green HTC logo almost everytime I went out of an app so, started using Launcher Pro. Today just for the frell of it

I have turned off animations, live wallpapers, and am running launcher pro (which has been force closing a lot). The home screens and app drawer are occasionally laggy, but the browser is really bad. LG's crappy code is probably to blame. Flash a custom ROM. CM7 if you want extra features. EaglesBlood 2.3.3 if you want stock feel.
To add to that, am I the only one who thinks froyo was smoother and faster?

I was having the same issues. Just last week I rooted my phone and installed xboarder's rom based on the ota update 1.2.2. My runs smooth, and it runs cold even when I play on it for hrs at a time. If you think the iPhones browser is smoother than Android, you obviously haven't used the most powerful Android device to date. The SGSII which uses a hardware accelerated browser. Its browser is the fastest mobile browser I've used to date. It loads pages and flash content twice as fast as my Sensation and G2X. The phone as a whole just feels so fluent. Whether you like Samsung or not, there is no denying they know how to code and optimize Android. In my opinion, they are the best when it comes to optimizing there Android devices unlike HTC and LG.
LG will never catch Samsung in the TV market in terms of display quality and they will never catch them in the mobile market.

The next update will have hardware acceleration. Ill tell you why it hasn't been implimented yet. It is a lot harder to code a operating system for multiple hardware configurations than it is to code for just one. It takes so many more man hours to figure out how its going to work on current handsets and cuter handsets.
In the end, if Android was only on one handset, it would already have hardware acceleration.

I know it doesn't help you a whole lot but in your OP, you compaired the iPhone to Android as a whole. I felt the need to tell you that it is not smoother than Android as a whole because there is a Android handset that bests it when it comes to overall smoothness, not only in the UI but also in the browser. If you would have said, "this is one area where the iPhone beats the G2X" instead of "this is one area where the iPhone beats Android". I wouldn't have brought it up.

Given that you seem to have an issue with any Samsung phone you have, regardless of how big or small the problem is, you're probably better off just not getting it, because even if the "browser lag" is fixed, you'll just find another thing to complain about.
Next he will be complaining about the lack of an LED and saying BLN is not a valid replacement.

No offense, but that is pretty sad if that is the "only" thing causing you to pack up the Charge. What do you like about the stock browser so much that you don't use an alternative anyway? If the problem doesn't exist for the other browsers, why not just use one of them? I can think of a handful of others that are much better than the stock browser anyway.
Seems like you are just trying to bash Samsung for no particular reason.
No im not bashing. I had it once before. And got rid of it for that reason. But i heard the lag was fixed. That why I ASKED IN THIS POST ..... The reason i like the stock browser is it handles alot of webpages better.... Format wise. Its just a taste. Trust i would rather be on a 4g phone.... The thunderbolt was just to big and heavy for me. So i went with the charge. Not bashing... Not meant that way.

Not gonna bother reading the thread still gonna chime in through, the stock browser sucks but if you're asking about the glitch that was in all the DC reviews where flash froze the browser, then that has been fixed a long time ago.
Also, for browsers I'd suggest replacing stock with Dolphin HD(or Mini, uses less resources) or Opera.

At&T SGS2 was running super smooth for me, no matter how many Widgets, live wallpaper or apps running in the background. The only slight stutter I ve seen on the skyrocket is in the launcher and only visible when running a few Widgets. Could be a firmware issue from "Samsung" not stock android. Comparing perfomance iPhone to android is not fair at the time, if anything compare it to WP7 since there's no multitasking, Widgets, background process, live wallpaper, ect on either phones.

I've had my Nexus S for almost two years now. At first, I flashed probably every ROM that existed. After a few months I just wanted to use my phone. So I stuck with MIUI. I never really stood still by the performance of that ROM. When the Nexus 4 was announced, I wanted to upgrade at first. It wasn't (isn't) available, so I had to wait. In the meantime, I flashed another ROM (JellyShot) again for the first time in months. Again, I didn't really stand still by the performance. I used the Chrome browser, and browsing wasn't really smooth, but I thought: that's normal for a 2 year old phone.
Because of certain reasons I decided to skip the Nexus 4 and wait for the next Nexus. But if I was going to hold out for another year with my Nexus S, I needed the smoothest and fastest ROM/kernel there was. So I found Rasbeanjelly. Together with the Marmite kernel and the BM seeder tweak, my phone is blazing fast again. I use Smart Launcher (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ginlemon.flowerfree), a very basic launcher with a nice UI that uses very little RAM, and a very nice lockscreen theme from magiclocker (https://play.google.com/store/apps/...xvY2tlci50aGVtZS5wYWlkLmhhcm9uLkNpcmN1bGFyIl0.). With almost no effort I made my Nexus S look fresh, beautiful and fast again.
But let's get to the point. The biggest improvement I noticed was the browsing. For the first time in months, I used the stock browser again. I can tell you, there is a BIG difference compared to Chrome. Is it my ROM/kernel, or is the stock browser supposed to be so fast? And is there an even faster browser? If so, I would really like to try it.
Big fan of Naked Browser here. Fastest I've seen, simple, just works. The options are incredible and it starts instantly, just like the default browser.

Nah, I get it. If you're gonna stick with "as minimal as possible", you really have to stick with it. He even made the icon look terrible . Some layout for the bookmarks screen for example would help the user experience though. But I would rather have him focus on making it even smoother, or adding a feature that actually matters. If you use the Naked Browser, you obviously don't care about looks anyway.

Yeah, but minimal != ugly. Or not user friendly. One can make something minimal but still practical and great to see. That's my main gripe with it, but no other browser can rivalize with it's speed. Can't have everything for nothing!

You're right. Well, we can only hope, right? As long as even the icon looks terrible, I doubt there are going to be any improvements.
I love puffin browser. So. Fast.
Edit: naked browser is pretty quick. Might be my new browser. How come this isn't as popular as other browsers?

Stock browser on Nexus S destroys Chrome in smoothness and performance

If you search for browsers in the Play store, you won't see it right away, and when you see it, you see an app with an ugly icon that's called "Naked Browser". Probably more than half of the downloaders thought it was some porn app.

Yeah, what I mean is that I like puffin, and I used to use xscope pro and skyfire and you never hear about them or see them being reviewed. It's always chrome, Firefox and dolphin. These over achievers need more word of mouth advertisement. Hehe. You'd think they'd catch on like wildfire.
And you're right, they should consider something that doesn't look like a porn app. Although, on reality, it's not to far off from being my "porn app". Ha ha ha

Puffin is definitely staying onboard. Still accesses blocked sites in through Wi-Fi security at work. But naked is a keeper for data or home Wi-Fi.

I use firefox as that's what i use on pc and need sync. Previously i was using stock browser and had switched to desktop chrome to have bookmark sync. But now firefox is really really good it doesn't immediately load up sometimes but scrolling is butter smooth.
