Issue with CPU running bionix 2 w/trinity - T-Mobile LG G2x

i'm running the bionix 2 rom and the compatible ext4 kernel, but when I benchmark it on smartbench 2011, It seems like only 1 core is being used because I get a 1300-1500 productivity score. I flash back to stock, stock bionix, or stock EB and the scores go back to normal (around 3000 productivity). What is going on?

maybe u got a bad download? when dl kernel?

I downloaded it last night, then redownloaded today, same problem. I actually got normal scores like twice in the beginning, but after that it just seems like only 1 core is being used.

also did that each time. I don't think it's just me. People are running quadrant and getting much higher scores(including me). But if you look at the scores for each individual category. You will notice that the only thing that is higher is the I/O due to ext4. the I/O score is so heavily inflated, that the overall quadrant score goes up while some other things are going down. I don't know why everyone relies so heavily on quadrant but it's so inaccurate.

True that. I hate it when websites run quadrant in their reviews. Specially when the app hasn't even been updated for dual core phones

I was testing it out and it didn't really make much of a difference on my for Quadrant Standard. I used SetCPU and put both min and max to 1.3 and set scaling to performance and not a big change. I dunno if I'm doing something wrong.

What exactly do I have to do to OC it? I tried it when I had my Captivate but I thought that I needed a different kernel? SetCPU wouldn't let me go over 1ghz... But I do have the bali kernel flashed right now.

The thing about quadrant however, is it's not optimized or suited for the processor in our phones (Hummingbird). It was designed for snapdragon processors.
Additionally, Quadrant is sub par in my opinion on benchmark test apps (even though it's well known) because it does operations that aren't typical. If you get advanced you'll see that it does like 60% all IO operations, however thats a really strange test because it would be like you running a full on database on your phone.
So the scenarios and tests it runs are not representative of the scenarios you are going to use your phone to perform.
I like SmartBench better because it gives you an index for Gaming and Productivity.
Samsung Galaxy S 4G's will slightly outperform the snapdragon/adreno combo that you see in the MT4G etc. Very slight advantage. In regard to productivity it does well too.

U won't notice anything earth shattering from an extra 200 MHz. However for games and flash and videos it does help. Also improves app loading times and things like that so even though it doesn't seem to do much it does help alot when the phone is pushed to the 1ghz area

How come some phones get high quadrant scores?

Hey
I overclocked my Galaxy S and I did some tests in quadrant to see if my clock gave me lower performance.. Anyways I got 2950 as my best score @ 1.5 GHz but I see some HD2's getting 4400 in socre @ 1.5 GHz. I thougt my Galaxy S would get a better score then a HD2. Is it becouse the HD2 running a slimmer rom with less background processes or are they just lying?
I believe quadrant scores are heavily varying and dependent on the device, and for the most part, do very little to reflect "real" performance.
I don't have a straight answer, but I wouldn't worry about it too much. Your scores are still magnitude's higher than my Hero, my absolute highest (with unsafe tweaks to the clock and kernel) was about roughly 500

Overclocking is just ramping up the processor in your CPU to higher frequencies for faster performance. There are limits, you can't go too high because you risk damage and overheating, and going too low can cause severe slowdowns and instability.
BUt finding a sweet spot for the minimum and maximum processor speed can result in a much faster phone when the screen is on and a way better battery life with the screen off.

Ah...Good old days!
Anyways, there are many many ways to cheat quadrant.Running the app from a ramdisk, patching SQlite, running a rom from SD(I think) all boost the scores. That is,however, because Quadrant relies heavily on I/O,which gives unreal scores.Remove I/O benchmarking from the test and you have a helluva accurate benchmark.Pretty good too.
But on the SGS,let me make my guess. Are you running Cognition rom?If yes,are you using interactive governor?Again,if yes, switch to performance governor and yay,4000+ points in Quadrant!

Unfortunately, it requires a custom kernel, which in turn requires a custom recovery (and in some cases, a custom ROM) to achieve.

Cannot agree more. It sure is fun showing around your quadrant score but a quadrant score never reflects true real world performance. Maybe, Neocore would be a better benchmark but then again non of these benchmarks would show how fast apps could load or how smooth you switch between apps.
I use an LG GT540 Optimus. I was able to reach 64.3fps on neocore and 1250 on quadrant after overclocking to some 800MHz with performance controller.
Quadrant also doesn't reflect the core memory/cpu usage. ie Sense UI eats more resources than vanilla. So, same phone running vanilla and sense will have different scores.
I believe Samsung uses TouchWiz. Perhaps, you could score better with a vanilla rom or cyanogenmod.
Last but not the least, Quadrant scores could be faked just as easy as you could fake version numbers in About Phone.

Post your Overclocks!

I openly consider the opinions of those who are for or against overclocking, I have heard both sides of the argument regarding its usefulness. Personally, I'm not fully decided. I respectfully ask we keep the thread on topic- posting your overclocks!
Here is mine with no noticeable heat or stability issues.
1.252 GHz
2791 Quadrant score
Humble 4.22
Imoseyon Kernel 3.10
Tegrak Overclock
I have heard people getting 1.4 GHz with the Charge, although I have heard of that some can't get above 1.2 GHz stable.

I go the opposite route. Rather than overclocking, I'm undervolting. It really helps battery life and doesn't affect your performance. I'm running stock clocks with -30mV across the board using Tegrak with the interactiveX governor on EP4 at the moment. Using StabilityTest from the Market in scaling mode to test stability. Going to try to drop the voltages down a bit more soon, as I've been fully stable for almost a week on these.

I actually find Quadrant useful for verifying lagfix and verifying over or under clocks.
One thing that overclocking allowed for was smoothing out 480p Flash video in the Browser that was choppy before.
Now that you guys vented your overclocking and Quadrant hate, back to the posting your overclocks!
*EDIT* Forgot to ask, does anybody know if there is an appreciable difference in battery life when overclocking at stock voltage? Theoretically, battery life should be the same no matter the clock speeds if the voltage is constant.

Overclocking without a kernel that supports undervolting probably scales the voltage up appropriately.

That is not true. Transistors have different power dissipation when they are switching versus when they are not. The faster you clock them the higher the power dissipation even when the voltage to them is the same.
I can't believe how long it took for someone point out the DBZ reference on a message board filled with nerds.

[Q] Quandrant Standard Test score problems.

Alright, before I OCed my phone, and before Chainfire, or AntonX's kernel, I took the test. I think I remember my score being around 2400. If I'm not mistaken, the lower the score the better? Or is it the higher, the better?
Anyways, I'm now OCed at 1.3, running VB Final, Anton's kernel.. and my score is only around 1800. The way the chart shows, the higher the number, the better. How can I get better scores? What is an ideal score for performance?
Also, I've notice a sizeable drop in the FPS during the test, from what it used to get to. The test breaks down as such:
Total: 1808
CPU 1366
Mem 1739
I/O 3720
2D 309
3D 1904
I wish I could remember the details of the last test, for comparison.
Run the test four times in a row. Then let us know what the numbers are. And higher is better
Running tests now, but wanted to go ahead and mention that for some reason today, my phone has been unlocking into the camera.
Ok, Score:
Total: 1845
CPU: 1389
Mem: 1796
I/O: 3955
2D: 175
3D: 1910
If it helps, some additional information:
After flashing my ROM, my phone would reboot once a day. Always while I was asleep. It wasn't really a bother, but after researching the forum a while, I found a fix: Go into CWM, Fix permission, wipe partition cache, wipe Dalvik chache. This worked. This was before OCing
Like previously stated, I'm on VB Final, with boostershot. I'm using AntonX's 1.1rc2 kernel. I have Chainfire 3D, with all three plugins installed. I'm OCed with SetCPU @ Max 1300 / Min 200
Quick Note, fixed phone unlocking into cam. Stupid me
Alright, I've been seeing some crazy high scores, like 2800 and 3400. Are my current ones where they should be? I'm using the app Quadrant Standard.
Are there any tweaks or anything, that could go with my ROM to get my score up? I have Booster Shot already for VB.
How does your phone feel with your day to day usage? Is it lagging? The reason I ask is because benchmark test are not always accurate, hence why your scores fluctuate so much... If you search benchmarking a Android device you'll understand what I mean.
So you can have really high quadrant scores but your phone can be laggy when you open apps, play games, surf the web, take pictures or anything else you may do with your phone.
Good luck

Yes, I've read the debates and facts in threads regarding the tests. I'm aiming to get slightly better performance. I know people can play intesive games on these devices with literally NO LAGGING, or stuttering. Like GTA 3, or Let's Golf 3. I'm trying to get there. So far, I'm WAY closer than when I started out as just plain rooted. It's playable now, but still stutters and lags more than it should.

My governer is Smartassv2.
I don't know what you mean by i/o, but on the governer settings it says:
io is busy 1
powersave bias 0
ignore nice load 0
up threshold 45
sampling rate 32500
There's no scaling option, you just set min and max, which i have at 200/1300
My governer says ondemand, even though i have it set to smartassv2. It said smartassv2 before i rebooted earlier.

That's not too impressive for that kind of OC is it? I'm getting 6082 with a completely stock ROM.

The thing with benchmark tests is consistency. Whether it's a PC or a phone, run your benchmark tests under the same conditions or else you'll get unpredictable results. Me, I shut down the phone, pull the battery, reinstall, boot... then wait a few minutes for everything to settle down... then run the test. Background processes will effect your results.
Other than bragging rights, benchmark absolute numbers mean little. They ARE helpful to see what individual changes do...especially helpful after an update or after flashing a new ROM. And use several tests. I have Quadrant Standard, AnTuTu, NenaMark 1 and 2, and Linpack. Also, SunSpider is a great JavaScript test that runs in your browser...meaning you can compare devices running Android, WebOS, iOS, WinX...or even RIM if you're one of the dozen or so people who still use a Blackberry. Lower numbers are better, since the score is in milliseconds to complete the tests.
