So I finally got around to flashing the Bamf 2.0.3 Rom and so far it's amazing...
The one thing I don't like though is that it has the Exchange Security Policy stuff in place so that if my company has it, I'm forced to enter a PIN or whatever when I unlock the phone. I was running Bamf 1.6 prior to this and it didn't have that.
Is there a way to remove it? I love the new Ring unlock but it's a pain 'cause when I do it I then have to enter my PIN before I can do anything.

Just got my Captivate yesterday, and set it up to connect to my corporate Exchange account. As part of that, Exchange forced the use of a PIN (when unlocking) as part of the security policy. I realized the built-in Exchange support sucked, so I deleted the account and switchd to Touchdown. I would have expected that removal of the account would have removed the PIN requirements - but it didn't.
I've tried disabling the unlock pattern and re-enabling it, but I still get the PIN entry screen after 15 min of the phone being locked. Is there a way to do it without completely wiping the phone?
RoadSync by Dataviz doesn't enforce PIN's on Android.
That's fine, but I need to figure out how to remove the PIN that has been applied.
You may have to do a system reset. My Exchange server doesn't enforce PIN On my Captivate but it did on my iphone. Weird.

Have you tried lock picker? Not sure if it'll work with the captivate but it's worth a shot:

Hey steelforce, did you happen to find a resolution to this problem? I have exactly the same issue: tried exchange support in native email, didn't like it, switched to touchdown and deleted exchange account, and still stuck with exchange PIN.
Thanks.
To tell you the truth guys, I had this same problem with my phone and the only way I fixed it was to reflash.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I had the same thing when I first bought mine, and I removed it by reflashing and going to newer kernels and ROMs.
Of course now I wish I had it back. I can connect 1 Exchange account, but I can no longer connect to the other one that required a PIN, even after flashing back to JF6.
After installing the recent Jh7 update, my exchange server's password policy is being enforced on my captivate now. I can't change the password without resetting the phone I believe...unless someone can suggest something to change it other than that. What I am wondering, when it prompts me for a password, is there a way to get a number only keypad (like the dialer box) to appear instead of the default keypad since the password had to be all numeric ? I don't like pecking for the small numbers!
Thanks!
Rick
I'd like to have answers to both those questions also if anyone has an idea. Especially changing the password, as I originally set it up with something simple and would really like to change it.

You simply remove the exchange account and the PIN requirement will be removed as well. Then you add it back with a new PIN.

The only solution is to upgrade to leaked Froyo ROM where you can both change the PIN any time you want and also it will be dialer pad for PIN entry. Unfortunately, the email client also contains some fatal flaws like you can't reply for forward with original message included.
I did try to remove the exchange account and unfortunately it did retain the old password when I added it back on the phone... Any other thoughts? I'm guessing 2.2 isn't far away now anyway since it was leaked out...i might just have to wait, or else bite the bullet and buy touchdown if froyo is still going to have problems.
It seems the samsung keyboard will give you the 10 digit keypad when unlocking. All the other keyboards I've tried(android, swype, vlingo) show the "numbers across the top" layout.
I have a question about putting my companies exchange setting on my samsung captivate.
so here is a little background. I work for a company that no cameras are allowed, except for me because I am the company photographer. I was issued a blackberry as my work phone but the freaking sucks. Actually when I got it, I set it up myself but then a day later the camera was magically deactivated on it. I am guessing the it department remote in and disabled it.
So I just got a samsung captivate as my personal phone which has nothing to do with my work but.... When I had my iPhone 4 I was able to put the same exchange settings on it and use my work email and address book and calendar on it and they never knew and my camera was never disabled. I dont care about using my phone camera at work but I do when I am not at work since it is my personal phone.
So my question comes after this. When i go to enter my exchange info on my android running froyo 2.2 on my samsung, it says that security settings will be automatically changed by the server. Will they be able to disable my camera on my personal phone? but my iphone they never did? What kind of corporate bull**** damage can they do to my phone and lock it down? It is my personal phone and I only want my calendar on it so I dont have to carry my ****ty blackberry phone around.
if they can lock the phone down just by me entering the exchange settings, can I do anything to prevent it?
I am wondering if someone can anwser this for me.....
Does the ability to use a Pattern unlock vs. PIN unlock for Exchange come from the Email.apk or the OS Version?
I was running Serendipity VII (2.3) and I was able to use a pattern unlock, which I prefer. Today I switched to Fasty's (2.2) and cannot.
Would love to know. Thanks!
Exchange server often requires a minimum number of PIN digits for unlock. Pattern unlock is not supported by Exchange server. Some modified email clients can ignore any such PIN requirements/policy. That's probably the difference between the two ROMs.
The email.apk that is in OBSESSION was the only one I found that overrides Exchange security for me. I no longer need the PIN security.
When I flashed a new rom last week I pulled the "email.apk" out of the obsession package and put it in the new rom package replacing the one that was in there.
Worked...
My exchange security policy also would force the phone to encrypt all data...made moving files to and from the phone rather pesky.
Thanks , Guys! I'll tinker around with some other apk's and see if I can resolve the issue.

Any chance I can get that email.apk from you? I am rooted and running the Paragon Froyo ROM on my Captivate. I want to override our exchange pin policy as well. I prefer the pattern lock.
Here is the one that works best for me. It will also start pinging your exchange server to auto fill email addresses from the GAL.
There was another email client from S VII that also bypassed the pin unlock but seemed a little finicky.
I just placed this email.apk in the system/app folder and made sure to delete the old one.
You may need to clear the cache and reset data from settings/applications/manage applications/email unless you are coming from a factory reset.
You will be prompted to set up your email again but this time no pin unlock will be necessary.
I feel like this should be a simple task, but my tablet is not working the same as either of my phones have.
I change my Google Account password once a year or so, and I just changed it last night. When I did this previously my HTC Incredible, regardless of which ROM I was running, prompted me that it was unable to authenticate my Google Account, and allowed me to login again. Last night shortly after I changed my password, my Galaxy Nexus prompted me for my new password.
My ASUS Transformer did not, and still has not this morning. I've tried force stop/clear cache/clear data on the different Google Apps on the device. I cannot remove the account. I do not want to reset the device.
What can I do? This is obviously a bug or an issue with Honeycomb if I didn't have the issue on 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, or 4.0.

You can't manually log out of the account and relog in?
Some things since you were already logged in when the password change happened know that since you entered in the correct old password when it was still in effect that you are the owner and will not prompt you for the new password until you have to log in again.

Logging out and back in - I'm assuming you're referring to removing the account from accounts and sync and re-adding it? You can't do that once you have apps installed. Android will not let you.

So I either reset now or wait for the ICS update to resolve this issue, which will be next month if I'm lucky.
Even if rooted, there isn't a script I can run or something?
Any idea if this is something ASUS did or if Google literally changed this from 2.x to 3.x and back again at 4.x? If it's ASUS, then the ICS update won't fix my issue and I would need a AOSP ROM.
