For those of you that have one. Please dock your phone, play a song and put on a headset. Listen to the quality of it. Now unplug your headset and plug it to the headphone port up on top. Hear the difference?
Its night and day, the port on the dock not only sounds low but there is no bass. Or is it just my dock? Please check your dock and let me know.

If you have a case on the phone and if the jack on the car dock is standard size, it might be too thick to go plug all the way. If it is not plugged all the way you will experience the symptoms you just described...
Hate cases so its in all the way. do you have the car dock? if yes can you please try and check to see if the sound is the same at the car dock verses the top port.
I am not sure if anyone checked it (I know the thread is one year old), but I have the same problem. Actually I stumbled across this thread because I wanted to know if there are some settings I can play with, so the sound out of the microusb is the same with the sound out of the headphone jack on top of the phone (my car has an aux input where I can plug a 3.5 jack.

I am wondering if it is possible to use the USB connection on the Tilt for attcahing it to external speakers. Is there any audio output directed throgh the USB port?
If not, can anyone recommend a blue tooth device that will allow communication from the Tilt and end up into an Ipod style jack that I can then plug into the Ipod port of the stereo system in my truck? (No factory blue tooth.)

Tilt's USB port has audio out. I use 8525's usb headset that I had laying around to listen to songs at work.

I will try to find a headset. I can then cut the headphones and attach an audio input instead of the earphones.
Can you recommend a brand other than the factory set?

I cut the usb plug off my old htc herald headphones and put a 3.5mm jack on the other end. I then bought a cheap mp3 dock with speakers. Plug the usb jack into the tilt and the 3.5mm into the dock. The sound is pretty darn good. The dock works off 4 aaa batteries and gives me 8 hours of tunes. heres a pic with my old mda in it, it works just fine with my tilt also.
Someone should make a HTC dock with speakers that runs off batteries so its portable. I bet they could sell a few.

I have a kaiser and just got the usb to 3.5mm adapter for 7bucks. I have a tape deck in my car so I bought a ipod tape to 3.5mm adapter now I have music and can run tomtom too even at the same time through the car speakers. I like that dock too!
Hey guys, I have my old Orbit 2 (Polaris) car mount in my car for use with my ne DHD (which is an absolute perfect, tight, unobtrusive fit btw!). I have a usb charging cable and phono-to-phono cable hooked up behind my dash to allow for charging and audio through my car stereo. Thing is the calls arent great for the other caller (I have to put on loudspeaker for the caller to hear me speak), possibly due to sensitivity of the DHD mic.

I want to see if this will have a better mic sensitivity and pick up my voice better while driving.

The price on this one is a rip-off but that's basicaly what you need to get it running. Plug it in the phone, then plug the cable you already have installed in the headphones output and you need to buy a good quality microphone, plug it in the other female connector and then install it in your car so it can pick up your voice.
Or if you don't use your stock headphones and you are good with the soldering gun, you can buy two female 3.5mm stereo connectors, cut the headphones cable and make the y-cable yourself. Or even use the headphone's microphone and install just one female jack, connected to the headphones' cables. You can try if the headphones' mic will work - just plug them in, point the microphone to yourself where you intend to install it, start the engine and call someone.
Has anyone seen a microUSB dock/charger/headset that has audio capability as well as charging the phone? What I'd like is to play music from, have headset controls from, and charge the phone all from the microUSB port on the bottom... or is this what car docks are supposed to do?
The way my car is, it's annoying to plug in the charger on the bottom AND the line out on the top - if there's a headset/adapter type thing, I figure I'll buy one of those and build my own car dock, and potentially speaker dock for the indoors.
OR: Just a microUSB headset - maybe I could add charger wires to it...
Month-long bump: I've realized that all I want right now is a microUSB headset, like for the older phones with no headphone jack. Obviously they don't make these for the G2x; has anyone confirmed another LG headset that works with this phone?
I honestly dont know if anything like that exists but I dont think so because of several reasons. Just a few that come to mind I'm not sure if the kernel driver supports it even if it could; the power running parallel to the audio probably would sound terrible; the USB would probably have to be used with a USB (female) to micro-USB (male) adapter since if you were to find it, it would probably be for PC so needed to be converted further adding to the reduction in sound quality.
Silly question.... why not just use Bluetooth and then usb to charge/data only??
Not a silly question at all. I don't feel like paying for a bluetooth adapter but also, because I've had bad luck with them in the past, as far as sound quality goes; I wasn't very impressed. Are there any good/reasonably priced bluetooth adapters that you've had luck with?
The blackberry audio gateway has been reliable for me and sounds decent.
Hmm maybe... not really a fan of having to plug that in, in addition to my stereo. I'll keep it in mind. Any others?
Hey guys, I bought the official samsung/verizon car dock for my charge the other day for a 4.5 hour trip I was doing, and while the built in power/audio ports on the dock were great....the audio out on the dock always lets out EAR PIERCING squealing randomly. if I plug my audio cable into the headphone jack OTOH, it works flawlessly.....
Anyone else use the dock and have similar issues? also, im sure this is from my cigarette socket...but charging like to randomly drop off and on >.<
Other than that, if I plug into the headphone jack versus line out on the dock it is great...albeit annoying

It sounds like it could be a ground loop. Do you hear the the sound change when you rev the car engine? What about when the engine is off?
Ok, so I seem to have figured out the problem with the squealing audio through the line-out on the car dock.....the leaked GB roms are to blame so it is. I tried humble and gummy GB roms and the speaker blasting squealing was there, then went back to Froyo and BLAMMO no more squealing.

EDIT....*grumbles* nevermind, started squealing like a stuck pig again this morning....PITA but oh well, not that big a deal, so I have to plug the audio cable into the headphone jack instead of the oh so convenient line-out jack on the official car dock.
I own a Galaxy S3 phone from Verizon, and I also own a 2012 Chevy Impala with the stock head unit. The head unit has a 3.5mm input jack in it, and I currently use a 3.5mm male to 3.5mm male cable to feed audio to my head unit from my phone's headphone jack. I was looking today through my box of cables, and I found this cable with a micro-USB plug on one end, and a full-size USB plug and a 3.5mm mini-jack plug on the other end. I do not know for the life of me where this cable originated; but I want to use this cable to charge my S3 and feed the head unit audio through the USB port on the bottom of my phone. (Technically the cable will be plugged into my car dock that I got with the phone.) I have a 12v to USB converter in my car already (because the car's alternator causes huge audio interference with the Verizon charger I have) and the cable works to charge the device, but no audio comes to the head unit. Is there a way to force the S3 to pipe audio through the USB port in a similar way as it does with the official desk dock?

Just grabbed one as well, feels like I replace the headphone cable pretty often, should've gotten a bluetooth deck.. what was I thinking.

Okay, I read the rest of that ebay listing, and I followed the instructions. It does work, as it turns out. However, it's very inconvenient to turn on and off. Anyone have a homescreen widget that enables and disables accessory audio?
Forget all of that. Go this route. It will give you excellent audio quality and USB sound+charge at the same time. I have this setup with the Behringer UCA202 DAC and couldn't be happier with the sound quality. I love that it charges too and I only have to plug one cord in to the phone. No settings to change or anything, just plug and play music from any app. The DAC moves all of the sound processing off of the phone for better quality. Just check that link out.

I don't have anywhere to mount a DAC in my vehicle, though...
I'm sure you could find a space under the dash. You don't have to mount it out in the open. lol.
