Build me an audio adapter please?

I'm on my second Audio adapter from Pocket PC Techs: http://www.pocketpctechs.com/detail.asp?Product_ID=PPCPADPT01. The first one would sometimes only play the left or right speaker and I'd have to jiggle the wire on the adapter for it to play properly. I returned this for a second one which worked fine up until last week when it started to pop the speakers in the car when the slightest jostling of the wire occured (hitting bumps). I've got it connected to the XDA 2 and then to a cassette adapter with 3.5mm jack in the car. The cassette adapter works fine on the iPAQ H3970 and the XDA 2 works perfectly with the included stereo headset. Another problem with the PPCTechs audio adapter is that the microphone doesn't work in the 2.5mm headset jack part.
I know there are people out there who have canibalized their included stereo headsets to make audio adapters and also people who have made their own USB adapters with audio out capabilities. Is anyone interested in making one for me?! I can send a canibalize-able stereo headset with the proper audio jack if needed.
I would like either:
- A modified stereo headset cable with microphone that connects to a female 3.5mm stereo headset jack.. or directly to a car cassette adapter.
...or...
- A serial port connection that can output stereo audio to a 3.5mm female audio jack, includes a microphone or 2.5mm mono headset jack, and provides charging capabilities.
I imagine the former choice would be easier, but none of my local electronics repair shops want to do it and I don't have the tools or experience to do it right. The latter would be nicer. I'd buy a car kit, but I havn't seen any that work with the XDA2 and provide audio out that can connect to the car stereo. I want both stereo music/movies to be played in the car stereo speakers as well as GPS navigation commands and (sometimes) phone calls... and I want Voice Command to work (hence the need for a microphone)!
Please PM me with costs if some one can do this for me.

Adamz- Did you push in the connector from the Audio all the way in? I used the handsfree set ( supplier with MMDA II) and it was not working properly and was also loose until I found that you have to really push it firmly.
I am suprised if you did do that and it still does not work as you said it has all the connectors
I am also looking for a similar solution using the same principle. The other sync input I use for mt GPS connector/ charger . was going to try the Audio adaptor that you are using with a mute box through to a speaker .

Nah, I want stereo quality music to be played in the existing speakers in my car. I also want GPS navigator instructions to be played in the car stereo as well as phone calls. I've got a Bluetooth GPS reciever, so I don't really need a serial connection.
The PPCTechs adapter is fully inserted into the audio jack, although sometimes pushing it too far makes it stop working as well! But if I jiggle the wire, sometimes it does work... then if I hit a bump, maybe it will stop working.
I'm thinking the USB Cradle with Audio might be good. If that's got a 3.5mm female stereo jack in the back, I can plug the casette adapter into that. Plug the USB into a cigarette lighter adapter... and that should be all set sinc the Audio USB cradle supposedly has a microphone in it.
Those don't seem to be available yet though.

Bluetooth Audio Adapter - BT to 1/8" stereo plug?

Ok, im my mind, this does not seem like much of a stretch, although i have not been able to find anything like i am thinking. What i picture is a relatively small (about 30 mm diameter) bluetooth adapter to stream audio too. The "button" would have a 1/8" stereo adapter coming out the back side so that you could plug this into a aux input on a car stereo, or whatever else. Right now, i have an 1/8" 90 degree adapter to a 2' patch cable to a 3/32" to 1/8" adapter, to the ever so wonderful HTC usb to 3/32" audio and power adapter. This is a pain in the ass. Bluetooth stereo headphones are out. Hell, bluetooth GPS recievers are out that are around the same size that i am thinking this (from what i know) non existant device should be. Can anyone help me out here? All i want is a (small) bluetooth device that has a 1/8" stereo jack on it to plug in my car without the need for any wires.
Does such a magical device exist? Cheers.

Sound while plugged into car charger

Hello!
When I plug my Touch Pro into an active Adapt carholder the sound output of my touch is forced to the charger (no sound output anymore on my mobile).
Is there any way around this? Any registry setting?
Or maybe remove some of the pins from the mini-usb connector on the charger?

Try getting HTC's official dongle which plugs into the USB port and gives you several connectors;
USB for charging
3.5mm headphone socket
2.5mm mini-headphone socket
USB for HTC's original supplied headphones
If you use this, you can plug in headphones at the same time as charging. I use it to route sound through to my car stereo so I can use the phone as an MP3 player and Sat-Nav.
If you don't use the headphone sockets, sound still comes out through the main speaker on the phone.

Hmm I have one of those, but the car charger I use is a slide-in holder, so there won't be much room for the dongle

I use the usb dongle adaptor in my car to push sound through the stereo, however this disables the HTC Touch Pro microphone so although I can hear people calling in (through the car speakers) they cannot hear me.
I think it is because the phone thinks the headphones are plugged in and that I'd use the headphone microphone.
Does anyone have a tweak which would allow the phones microphone to remain in action when using the dongle?

I don't have that problem at all, my phone's microphone works fine while using the USB dongle with a 3.5mm jack plugged into it, connected to my car stereo.
Are you using HTC's official dongle, the one with the 3.5mm, 2.5mm USB power and USB headphone sockets?
It works fine for me!

3.5mm Jack vs HTC plug

given that the sprint has a 3.5mm jack for earphones, does the standard htc plug (where you charge / sync) also have a connection to listen to music? and if yes, does that then mean that we can plug in 2 sets of earphones? one on the 3.5mm and one on the htc mini- usb jack? i don't have standard htc headsets and i'm tempted to buy a set just to check...

I was able to test this with my headphones from my old Mogul and yes, it does work with both headphones connected at the same time -- audio from both.

thanks mate! now i can go ahead and buy a set. it actually provides a good alternative to continuous plugging and unplugging from the 3.5 jack. there is also bluetooth but the mini-usb gives me another option for tunez.

thanks mate, just tried it and it works fine as well. as to where i would use it:
1) gives me an alternative to constantly plug into the 3.5mm jack. ages ago i read that the plug connections eventually wear out. not sure about statistics and all though for the tp2. but a mate of mine did return his 6-month old unit for this reason. claims that one day the sounds were all gone. only by plugging in his headphones did he hear anything. he sent it back for replacement and the diagnosis showed that the plug connections were worn out. well in all fairness he did listen to his tunez 2 times a day...that meant plugging in and out twice a day as well. seems the phone was "stuck" in headset mode.
2) i use an i-tech bluetooth set of which i can plug in my noise cancellers. if the battery ran out, i can then plug into the 3.5mm. or, i recently got a mini-usb to 3.55mm headset converter. again, good alternative to constantly plugging into the 3.5 jack
3) my wife =) on a recent trip to canada...of which took ages...we shared the headset plugged into the 3.5 jack. by plugging into the mini-usb, that way we can both have our own headsets at the same time. quite weird to have one ear listening to tunez while the other being bombarded by sounds from the plane =)

TP2 uses USB-B for charging and syncing. This USB-B has audio out as well as video out. I don't know if one takes priority over the other (USB-B audio or 3.5mm audio out), or if both can be used together.
Last week I ordered a USB-B cable to output video/audio to external monitor & speakers (watch movies externally) via RCA jacks (Right/Left/Video).
Why not just use a 3.5mm audio splitter jack to get dual out audio? (personally, I'd rather put wear & tear on a 3.5mm audio jack than a mini-USB jack ...). Seems a 3.5mm splitter would be simple clean output method. Additionally, you could use BT-Audio paired possibly to more than one device headset for dual audio out ...?

I'll likely be upgrading from a TP2 next month. One of the main multimedia functions I use my phone for is for listening to podcasts in the car over the stereo's speakers. But obviously you also want to be able to charge it at the same time. And instead of having to fiddle with two cables for this every time it would nice if you could just use one.

I don't think so. The reason the HTC phones had that was because they didn't have a 3.5mm jack on most of their older phones (correct me if I'm wrong about the TP2 but my Vogue required 2 adapters just to get a 3.5mm jack to plug my headphones in).

I had a feeling this probably wasn't available, but I had to ask as I've gotten accustomed to the ease of just plugging one cable in to my TP2.
I'm also not crazy about the USB slot being on the top as that creates some weird docking issues (not only for the car, but also at home.) But it's either this or the Evo and I was much more impressed with the Epic.

TP2 has a 3.5mm jack

The fact that desktop dock only has a micro-USB connection yet has a stereo out jack on the back (even though it doesn't work until 2.2) has me at least hopeful that maybe we'll eventually see a similar style adapter for the Samsungs. Heck, I'm tempted to try just slipping my miniUSC-to-micro-USB converter on my HTC version and seeing if that works.
Of course I don't have the phone yet. And it's not a big deal really as I just like having to only fiddle with one cable in the car.

Belkin Makes an adapter
I bought an ipod adapter that is suposed to convert the ipod style 3.5mm earphone jack with volume control to a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. When plugging standard headphones into my phone it would continue to play sound through the phone speaker, plug this Belkin Headphone adapter in and it seems to work perfectly. It in essence just ends the mic wire from the jack and disables the phone speaker.
