[Q] New WP7 devices? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi dear,
I'm currently using Samsung Omnia 7 but I'm going to sell it and want to get new WP7 device.
I didn't like any phones with qwerty keyboard but after I saw LG Quantum I've liked it! it's so cute and sexy as well.
But when I was looking for some information about LG quantum, I read some articles and threads about new WP7 devices.
Do you guys think it will be coming out soon like in August or September?
and will it have duel core CPU and better GPU for XBOX gaming?
I know actually WP7 OS doesn't need the high spec but just I want to get Today's phone.
The most important feature that I care is a front face camera. Does anyone know about new WP7 device with front face camera?
Please give me some answers to make a good decision.
I also heard Mango update will be coming to current WP7 devices but the language supports(Especially East Asian languagues as I'm Korean) won't be on 1st gen wp7 devices. Please let me know what is right what is wrong.
Thanks guys. Too many questions, eh? Sorry about it.

Please anybody answer me!

The LG quantum was in the first wave of wp7 phones released by ATT. There are no dual core phones on spec for this year. It may be possible that some of the mango phones will have front cameras, but most likely will be next year at least. I haven't heard anything on language support not coming to 1st gen phones with mango, it is a software upgrade no reason why it shouldn't be there. Good luck

Mango has support for FFC's, so I would almost guarantee one or more of the OEM's will release a flashship Windows Phone device with a front facing camera during the Mango wave. There will also be some dual core phones this year, but again this will likely come with Mango devices.
We will know a lot more as to when we can expect Mango's release (and therefore new devices) on the 24th, when MS makes their announcements.

dont go for lg, the smiley logo looks so cheap.

Thanks guys.
But I already made an order for LG optimus 7q(quantum).. T.T
Some said its body quality and qwerty keyboard is so nice so I just decided to get it.
Anyway, it's very sad to hear that new device with front face camera will be releasing!
If I knew that I wouldn't order it .... Damn IT!
But is it coming in October or November?

And what is the FFC's??
Could you please explain me about it?

FFC=front facing camera

@OP
I've got WP7 on my HD2 and love it, and I've had my HD2 for quite a while and it replaced my Touch Pro (slide out querty) and I miss the keyboard...
Even though the touchscreen keyboards are getting much better, especially on large 4.3" screens, I still like the feeling of keys under my thumbs...
I think you made a good choice... When my contract is up I'll likely forgo my big screen for the LG... Unless I can get my hands on an HTC 7 Pro...

Would love to see where either of the above had been confirmed (or even leaked) for Mango. I follow this stuff pretty closely and haven't seen anything that suggested support for a front facing camera, and the MIX2011 information did not have Mango supporting anything other than single core snapdragon SoCs.

Yeah that's what I meant.
I've read article about wp7 every day but havent seen or read any news about FFC.
I think I can wait for 3rd gen wp7 which will be with apolo as the hardware requirement is not way far from current devices.
I'd like my LG quantum.

I would wait until 2012 or late 2011. The 4 core ARM Cortex-A9 processor will have hopefully been adopted by Microsoft for WP7 standards.

Doesn't the announcement of Skype coming to mango imply front facing cameras?

[Q] Buy WP7 now or later?

Due to my touch screen slowly losing it's touch accuracy on my cracked screen I'm being forced to replace my Touch Pro 2 Verizon. I decided to go with the Fascinate which will be my second no WM phone and first since 2005 I believe. My contract is up in May as well. I decided against paying 80 or 90 to get a Omnia II or Imagio. I don't think I could stomach WM without a keyboard.
I am interested in WP7 but it seems to be in a very early stage. Verizon doesn't even have a WP7 device at all. I was surprised to see some complaint messages on VZW's own message board about the lack of devices.
Is it better for someone who like to fiddle with their phones a lot to wait until updates with IE9 and multitasking, maybe even new devices come out or do you think its pretty good to go ahead now? Will a techie be able to live with it day to day?
I have a WP7 device in my house but the female is pretty tight gripped with her phone but I have liked what I've seen.
Think about it this way. You already like what you have seen. Well, it WONT get worse. I used to hate my WM 6.5 keyboard, but it was because screen was resistive. I have a Samsung Focus and I love it. Once multitasking gets out there, it can only get better and better.
No other software company has a better potential to integrate an ecosystem than MS.
I believe Verizon will launch its first WP7 device in the coming weeks.

I quite like WP7 but wouldn't recommend it to a friend today. It depends on how patient you are as I don't think it will be mature before 2012. You should have a look at some older threads on the topic and see if you could cope with the issues people have with WP7.

i'd wait at least until mango. but by then nokia wp7 would be only weeks away.
I'd wait at least until Mango but the Arrive looks pretty sweet if you want to jump ship right now.
WP7 might still be a bit young, but we know some of the major features that are coming, it was said before by someone else, but it ISINT going to get worse before it gets better.
and if you dont mind playin with it some, they will already do a lot. Id go with it now and watch it get better as it goes, otherwise it might be a while before you get to switch later, with contracts and all

Simple answer: The OP wants to upgrade, which means he will be tied to (or stuck with if he hates it) the phone for 2 years. Since WP7 is still lacking, there's really no rush. I'd say wait until Mango as not only will the OS be better but also new devices will be coming at that time.
Even if you love your phone (which I guess you do), you have to put that aside to give sound, useful advice and in that case I think it's better to wait.
If you can wait then hold out until Nokia launches. If you need one now then its not a bad os. Its nicer then iOS but the market place is a WP7 weakspot even as of now. If you don't need games then its pretty good.

I guess the main reason for me to wait is because of apps. I need Spotify and what my company is developing (only android and ios for now... but not for long)

what does that mean, without using more buzzwords in the explaination ?
Thanks everyone. I am going to have to wait in the short term anyways until my contract is up. I see Verizon is only coming out with the Trophy in the short term. I am going to debate to see if I want to leave them or not. I like the Arrive as I perfer keyboards if possible and it's essentially a Touch Pro 3 in at least hardware.

Should you switch from X to Y checklist:
Step 1a (on contract purchase) - See what your provider has to offer.
Step 1b (unlocked purchase) - See what is out there in your budget.
Step 2 - Make a list of all the tasks you accomplish on your current phone.
Step 3 - Make a list of all the tasks you would like to accomplish (wishlist).
Step 4 - Do the research.
Step 5 - Try before you buy.
If Windows Phone can do the things you need it to do now and you like it then take the plunge. Be very wary about purchasing a phone that cannot do what you need but will in the future; you may become very frustrated.
I love WP7 too and was going to get the Trophy but I ended up with a Defy (unlocked purchase). I needed Skype and Whatsapp so I will wait until Mango and get the one phone I have always wanted if it was not for its unattractive UI: Nokia!
Hi all
I think that this is the best time to buy an WP7 phone...
In my country (Greece) you can get HTC Trophy or LG Optimus 7 with 199 euros.....
For what those phones can offer this is an amazing price..
With the upcoming mango update and all those stuff that MIX has reveal the WP7 OS
will be a robust and mature enough mobile platform..
Guys ...dont forget 2 moths ago the price for those phones was arrount 500 euros...
IMO yes...this is the best time to buy an WP7 device

The fluidity of the OS in particular is important. Android is the ugly duckling of ios widgets alone creates no fluidity and it's laggy... Might be the x10, but don't think so. I've used the EnergyROMs (winmo 6.5) and it's far superior to both IOS and Android, but as you all know... Few apps and weak hardware. Can't wait for Mango!

IOS or WP7?

Im using 3GS right now and will either upgrade to a WP or IP4/5, I am sick of Android feeling like its still in a beta stage and freezing, closing apps, lagging no matter what phone. Anyway back when I used the focus the UI was amazing! But it was missing features...IOS is great! Time for some new features though imo, has WP7 been upgraded to more features? And how long will those updates last for the current WP's? What in your opinion is the best WP? And ultimatly what do you think is better? Hopefully Apple announces what IOS5 will be like. I really like WP7 but it felt like it needed time to get more features and some Apps were not optimized properly(ebay) but wow! That os is like butter! If it keeps getting features I may have to go WP! Especially if IOS5 is the same old, But for now I guess I gotta stay IOS.
maybe you should wait until fall or september, then both iphone 4s and major updates for WP7 are released, that time you can make a better comparison.which phone to buy...
The Fall Update to WP is a pretty big one, and new hardware will come out with it so I'd wait. The OS as it is, is to me the best designed out there, and the features people have been aching for are almost all coming with Mango (the fall OS update). Its going to be pretty nice, but ultimately up to you what you like most.
you've already pointed out that ios is complete and mature, try a friends phone around christmas and see if wp7 updates are all they're claimed to be...
the iPhone/iOS really is matured. You know where the saying comes from "There is an app for that".
I am still missing a lot of apps I was using on the iPhone, which are not (yet) available for WP7. But I really like the look of feel of WP7.
Wait for Mango if you like simplified device working more or less without any trouble
and you don't miss some basics. The UI is consistent and very easy.
For more sophisticated and better equipped device look somwhere else.

IMO the UI on Wp7 blows iOS out of the water. It's simple yet still highly functional. I keep making my older and less technical users go to WP7 devices. They all seem to love it and I see them on their phones all the time - I'm sure their productivity is tanking lol.
Ignorance is Bliss, as they say.
But I'd wait until Mango and IP5 is our and make a more informed decision.
Right now WP7 can't hold a candle to iOS, but the update will be big. Unfortunately it's months off so you'll have to use a phone that has 30+% less functionality than your 3GS and many showstoppers (and lack of Apps) if you upgrade NOW.
I'd wait.
Wait for iPhone4S/5 and WP7 Mango update, and then decide. You might look into Samsung Galaxy SII as well, it's very fast. Maybe more device coming out with Dualcore/Quadcore that improves Android. WP7 is still in beta stage imho.
I've been using wp7 since October when I replaced my 3gs, and I've missed nothing so far.and that's been very honest, the thing is all I use to use on the iPhone was Facebook eBay satnav n a few more apps so the 300k appstore didn't matter to me. You've gotta think about the features and apps u need. Upgrading to wp7 guarantee u mango update regardless of the handset you choose.
Wp7 Focus
wp7 for sure, the metro UI is amazing.
I just bought a WP& phone, will post what i think of it, just hope the app market kicks off and MS add more functionality and that it becomes moddable

Functionality is more than coming:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1084161
Marketplace is already pretty good considering dev's cant create certain apps yet (Mango SDK will have all the 1500+ API's available, many of which will be used to create these lacking apps).
If you are looking for heavy modification, it may not be the platform for you, but people will definitely be modding it. Just not the extent WM & Android users are probably used to.
I went with the iPhone4, Im still gonna wait and see how WP7 goes and see what Apple does with IOS5, then I can make my Dec with what I want, but Ive heard from a lot of news sources that WP7 is doing pretty bad in sales and that its really not catching on at all, hopefully it dosnt go the way of the Kin phones...
As some have already said, I would probably wait for the Mango update and iPhone 5 before making the decision. I got a WP7 and I really enjoy it, but I think to make a fair choice, you should wait to pick between the two.

They are doing it as quickly as possible. Its a major change at Nokia, it doesn't happen overnight. Nokia is planning for a late 2011 release of their first phone(s), and they are planning a whopping 12 devices (rumored so far) in 2012 running wp7 (including a dual core N8 version with a 12MP high optics camera). They will be using both qualcomm chips and SE dual core chips according to forbes.

There will also be some pretty nice second gen phones from Samsung, HTC, LG ect so people should have quite a few nice ones to choose from.

Get DVP or Wait For New Mango Devices?

I really love the DVP form factor and I am getting tired of my Samsung Vibrant. Should I wait for a Mango device before getting the DVP? When will we get to see some of the new Mango devices? Will they have front facing cameras? I heard about a windows phone 7 device similiar to the galaxy sII coming soon, is there any truth to that? Thanks for the help.
No by the looks of the new phones that were leaked. I don't think that they will have no front facing cameras. I think WP7 is more focused on there OS than building a phone that is mainly focused on Skype. They might have bought them out but the OS is the most important to them right now. They have to catch up because they started so late. I would say go ahead and get u a WP7 device because all users will be able to get mango. As far as mango goes, they will be updating that constantly because they want the new version to succeed and they will follow up of whatever version they have next. Personally I think that they will keep all of the users updated to the latest versions of the OS. Windows phone will prevail. Rock on Microsoft!!!!!!!!!

We won't know the 1/2 of whats going to be released phone wise with Mango until we get a lot closer. I would almost guarantee at least one flagship from one of the OEM's will have a FFC. And they will probably (at least a good handful of them) be quite a bit more powerful than the initial release phones, so something like the Galaxy SII from Samsung is not out of the question. Mango is going to make this a pretty feature rich phone, and this is when they will really start pushing things (kind of like Android with the OG Droid).
I'd just hang on the the vibrant until then, or buy a used DVP and sell the vibrant till then.
Buy the DVP now...
Yeah I am thinking of buying the DVP on contract (I bought my vibrant off contract, and the DVP 8GB is only 80 bucks now ) and just selling it on ebay when the mango devices start coming. Hopefully dell will update the Venue Pro later and add a front facing camera and other cool stuff.
Do yourself a HUGE favour, read the dvp forum before buying this lemon: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=799. Discussions are now about how we can get dell to take ownership of the issues they seem to want to sweep under the carpet, multiple returns of devices only to get the same faults with replacement ones. You are far, far better off staying with what you have or going with another WP7 device. Really.
If its only 80$ and off contract, I'd hit it !

If any more convincing is needed, read Dell's forums and see how they are ignoring the problems. You may be lucky but if you are not do not expect any support in any form from Dell. Also consider they were not among the OEM's listed at the Mango event, there hasnt been official word on whether Dell is definitely going to support Mango. JUST DONT DO IT!!! http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/mobile-devices/f/3824.aspx

A friendly advise: Stay away from the Venue Pro. It has serious stability issues and routinely crashes. New Mango devices will likely launch in the month of October/November time-frame. Almost nothing is known about the new devices so we have no if there's front facing camera.
I am sure there'll be a Windows Phone from Samsung that has similar specification to the Samsung Galaxy S II.

[Q] Better wait for Mango Device or 1st one with Mango update?

Hi dear,
I'm planning to get Omnia 7 or Focus(I just sold my Omnia 7 few weeks ago poor..)
but I also want to get Mango Device with Front Facing Camera.(I assume FFC will be available on Mango WP)
Should I wait for it or just get 1st gen WP7 device?
Mango Beta looks so delicious so I can't make a decision.
Please give me some ideas guys!
if i were you i`d wait for the 2nd gen WP7 devices. i already have an htc trophy and so far im loving it, but i`ll be getting probably either a nokia or htc wp7 with ffc so i could skype video call. no offense to samsung and lg users but i find their hardware to be fairly similar and quite poor (experienced on android devices), especially the fact that omnia 7 had delays on getting the nodo update due to hardware/firmware stuff.
I got NODO on my Omnia 7 quite early.
I like the Super Amoled Screen actually
Maybe I better wait for Samsung or Nokia WP! Thank you anyway
I'd wait for the next generation of devices. But I have the Omnia 7 and I LOVE it. And once you go AMOLED, you can't go back to LCD...
That's right
LCD display wp7 device is not my option.
I only look for Samsung Focus and Omnia 7.
I'd used Omnia 7 for 3 months and I quite liked it but there were too many missing features so I sold it... I regret my decision now t.t
If you can wait... just wait for Mango and the 2gen devices, that will come with the update.
Aside from that, for me buying an WP device again is just an option, when it features an AMOLED screen. Metro looks an awful lot better on these screens.
All depends on what comes in the 2nd gen devices. If they come out with the same specs and no front camera (or no major features), I'll stick with my Trophy a little longer.

[Q] Best prepared phone for Mango

I currently have a Pre 2 which in itself is a fantastic phone has alot of cool things going for it. thing is im a bit of an app geek really didnt release until i went to webOS with limited number of apps.
I am very short on cash and am tied down to a contract for another 20 months after firstly upgrading and selling my phone to get a pre. Now i wanna have a WP7 but i no for a fact i wont be able to afford a new device.
SO question is what current WP7 is best prepared to update to Mango?
Just to let u no i have a hate relationship with Samsung!
Any advice would be appreciated otherwise im sticking with the pre 2 :-(
Any and all. All WP7 phones will be getting the Mango update!
i am aware that alll current windows phone 7 will be getting the mango update but which current device will best suit mango is what i was trying to say.
i am aware that all current wp7 are pretty similar but they are unique in there own individual way
i am tempted by the either the LG Optimus 7 or the HTC Pro 7 both are in my price range. i just wanted some peoples opinions on actually living with the phones and the expectations with Mango coming on and its 500 or so new features.
Also just a quick question someone might be able to tell me... i've read there has been a slow down in the release of apps. Is this due to the Mango update being released soon? Will all current apps be able to work on Mango?
Once again, any and all phones will work great with Mango due to the software being coded for the minimum hardware requirements (which all phones meet or even exceed!)
So just go with what screen size and/or features suit you Personally I wanted an AMOLED screen so I went with a Samsung Omnia 7 as it was cheap as well.
Many developers will wait until Mango is released because Mango will offer more API's so the hardware is better utilised. Current apps will work on Mango AFAIK.
All current devices will be about the same. They are all missing gyroscopes & front facing cameras, so certain mango features won't be enabled across the board with all current devices.
Just pick the one you like the form factor of, screen size ect.
As for which is the best? Its opinionated, but I would get the Samsung. Samsung uses better NAND memory and has a much better screen. Other than that it will perform the same as the HD7.
You will see a large surge in new apps come mango. Developers are waiting till they can submit their new apps with all the abilities and API's opened up to them.

Thanks for your opinion this is what i was after
FFC dont really bother me as i have great desire to use Skype on a phone. Interestingly i am wondering how the gyroscope on the new devices will work?
Also i was wondering what NAND is?
Coming from a Palm Pre 2 i was thinking about the DELL Venue as it has a slide out keyboard. a 4.1" AMOLED screen. Thing is if its anything like other DELL then ill stay clear!
What about the HTC Pro 7? worth a look? i like the fact of having an option to have a physical keyboard though this is not essential.
I've read that the LG Optimus 7 has a few, nice extra features that other phones dont?!
I liked my friends HTC Desire HD but am not a fan of android so im also thinking about the HTC HD7
Choices choices choices. HELP!!!

Hi! I too just came from a Palm Pre 2! What a coincidence. I advise you not to go with Android. I in fact switched from a Motorola Droid to a Pre Plus in September of 2010 and then a Pre 2 in March of 2011. I have since upgraded to an HTC Trophy and I love my phone. I'm on Verizon, so the Trophy was my only WP7 choice. But it wasn't a bad one at all! While Web OS is a gorgeous operating system, I find WP7 more attractive and easier to use at times. The bigger screen and the keyboardlessness is what really tickles my fancy. Anyway, I would have to agree with the above poster and say a Samsung Focus is the best choice. I myself would have chosen one if I could because of the simple black, and sleekness of the device. Also, I became an early adopter of Mango and 7712 is absolutely amazing, you won't regret it! Variety is fun when it comes to smartphones.
Nexus One -> BB Torch -> Omnia 7 -> Pre 2
Above is my History of Smartphones and i'm anti Apple so i'm not getting an iPhone. I had the Omnia 7 in just in time for the NoDo update and i enojyed it but had lusted for a Pre 2 and webOS.
I am in the UK so i am limited to the phones available in the UK with the HTC Trophy, HD7, Pro7, Mozart, LG Optimus 7, and the Dell Venue Pro 7. I don't really want another Omnia 7 as i have already had it.
The only thing i didnt like about the WP7 was the ringtones and alert tones were not change to my own. Has this been sorted now? is this supported officially?
Anyone any experience in UK with an imported HTC Surrond?
Whats the difference between the HTC Pro 7 and the HTC Arrive ?
