[Q] Removable Back? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i ordered the transformer, and it should be here tomorrow.
now, i work at a autobody supply store, and i have access to all the new amazing paints, and i was wondering, does the back come off on this? i'd really like to paint it a different color, as well as protect it.
if it doesnt, that will just mean i have to do about 5x the work to make it look good, but i'm okay doing that.

If u find a way on removing the back please share with us

ALL parts are removable on ANYTHING given the right tools...and if you don't care about what the end result looks like...

Painting and reinforcing the back is going to add weight to something that I consider already heavy for its kind. I wouldn't touch it personally.

its automotive paint. i can paint and clearcoat it, it would add probably about 15g to the total weight, but would have the durability of your car hood.
custom colors + insane scratch resistance + ability to be cleaned up easily is worth the 15-25g extra weight.

There were a few threads showing units that had started to separate. The pictures implied the the back was sort of pressed on. Check some of the threads complaining about build quality and creaks and you'll find the pictures.
BTW, when you get it painted post some pictures!!!!

I want to replace the blue keyboard lights...

I bought a used S710 on ebay and it has some body damage so I'm going to replace the entire housing. While I'm at it I'd also like to get rid of the blue back lighting on the keyboards (mainly the qwerty one). Is there anyway to replace the LEDs with something easier to read, like white? For some reason the blue seems difficult to me.
sure, everything is possible.
But, those leds are really really tiny and difficult to solder

You're not the only one. I've got 10/20 vision and zero colour blindness issues, and I still have issues reading the blue backlit chars. What a dumb idea that was!
GL replacing the LEDs though, they would be tiny if they're individual LEDs!
I think some tech geek could do this for you! Although then, warranty would be gone!
Yeah, I'm not too worried about warranty since I bought it with a broken screen on ebay!
I went ahead and did the housing swap without changing the LEDs. There's no way I have the skill to replace those tiny things, and it wasn't worth paying someone to do it.
Thanks for the replies anyway.
Well I thought you might have a friend with the skills to do it! Otherwise it's a pretty difficult task, the heat destroys the circuit bord very fast, touch it too long and it's gone...for ever!
I would love to do that - I take it I am not the only one who has trouble focusing on the intense blue LEDs?
I need a new front housing for my Vox if I can get hold of just this part then I will have a look at what kind of a job it will be.
That's all I needed also, but I could only find full kits on ebay.

INCREDIBLE Raphael Camera Discovery

Hi Guys
I was testing out the camera on my Fuze last night in complete darkness in my room. So i put the flash on, and started snapping some pictures. What I started to notice was that there was this halo on the right side of the screen. I quickly figured out that this was from the LED light hitting the back casing and bouncing back into the camera lens! I removed the back of the Fuze, and snapped another picture. The differences are AMAZING! THe following pictures have the exact same settings and everything, one was just taken with the back on and with without the back on.
Check it out!
With Back On = http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a60/votum3/IMAG0022.jpg
Without Back On = http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a60/votum3/IMAG0020.jpg
I guess my pictures dont have this halo as stated here http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a60/votum3/IMAG0022.jpg
or at least not that strong
NExt problem is how to solve that without removing back casing? Maybe impossible ;(
Nice find! THanks
Thanks. The only thing that I was considering was some type of jacket that goes around the flash that plugs the space between the back casing and the flash. But I'm not exatly sure how I could do that...
You can modify your case by putting a dark piece of material in the case to separate the light form the camera lens.
Yea I was thinking maybe some of that black foam type stuff with the adhesive on the back thats often used on electronics would work great.
maybe it is a ORB..

ROFL
Yea after I took the picture my camera was actually taken by a spirit and thrown across the room. I tried to get it back but to no avail...
whats needed is to make the hole that little bit bigger
In my opinon HTC should leave the camera out from these business models, lower the price and make them smaller in size or something...
id rather they make them actually usable like some nokia or sony models myself. i love not having to carry around a separate camera as long as the phone camera is up to snuff.
A small square of felt between them ought to do the trick.....
dont have that problem
leaving out the camera is like limiting the device of what it can REALLY do. true, many business's state no camera phones on site, simple solution find another job.. j/k have two devices one w/wo camera..

Yesterday I had send a document to a coworker, and I used my Pro to take a picture.
Last month I had to e-mail a bank receipt while on the go, guess what I did?
So yes, the camera is important for business use, and I would never buy a phone without it.

exactly - so much easier than writing stuff down
I'm a service tech....and use the camera to snap pictures of goofy stuff I see
on machines, and sometimes mail them to the tech support center. I've always
been told a picture is like 1000 words...
last week I caught my spouse cheating on me finally and took pictures with my diamond pro... so yes, it is good for business, especially when you can give it to your attoryney for grounds of divorce..

This has been discovered on the Kaiser forum a while ago already. But now that you mention it, i check the back cover and surprisingly, I haven't noticed until now that there is no protecting glasses in the holes.

Make your own sync/music dock, with your Galaxy S Box!!

Hey, was bored so i made this dock out of the samsung galaxy s box, have a go if your feeling creative
See attachments for finished product
GUIDE:
You need:
Knife/scissors (also a screwdriver (thin as possible) is helpfull)
Galaxy s box (and inserts)
Cocktail sticks x2 (dont need if you use a STRONG glue)
Optional:
Coins (to add weight)
tape/glue (if you want a little extra support, not needed though)
Heres a quick guide and some pics to help are in the attachments
!)Get the foam piece that the phone sits in when you first get it
2)Cut holes to allow cables to go through foam and plug into phone
3)Cut the foam side opposite the side that you cut the holes in to.
4)cut corner off the box which has the documentation in it.
5)Stick the bit of foam you cut off the box into the rim of the corner you cut of (the glue used to stick it to the original box should be sufficent so you dont need to add your own)
6)use cocktail sticks cut to make them shorter to attach the back bit you just made to the front.
7)Add coins inside back if you want more weight and stablility (use tape to secure)
8)Done!
This is really cool! I've been looking for a good dock so I can charge and have it plugged to speakers as well. Might make my own with the box too like you did. Very creative! Will need lots of time though. Thanks for posting this!
Excellent post. With a bit of tweaking you could also integrate speakers in there somewhere.
I'll buy 1

Lol i just need to find box my phone came in...
Excellent way to recycle the box
If you phone needs a claim within the warranty period then you've just destroyed the packaging it came in - same if you want to sell your phone on in the future...
I like to keep my boxes safe and pristine - even keep the cable ties and screen protection film...
Awesome idea man!
Nice dock, I probably won't attempt it myself in this iteration though as I don't want to butcher up my box.
Awesome
Really cool.
I Already ordered the phone, and this will be one of the first thing i'll do.
It's a great idea!
Doing something similar to mine. Is there any good dock aps for the vibrant?
Never mind. Found Car Home and Desk Home in the market from samsung
.
LOL
This post really made me laugh sooo hard. Thanks.
I won't be doing this, but very creative idea. You are a little Martha Stewert in the making.
Maybe I can add some tips. To make the cardboard box more sturdy and water proof. Get some clear polyurethane, add a coat of polyeurethane. It will make it more sturdy, thicker, and water proof.

For warranty claims don't they just send you the phone and you send yours back? I do see where it can make a difference in selling the phone though.
Brilliant! But I will try to replicate this with other boxes around the house..
I like to keep the boxes for added value in case I want to sell the phone (what I might think will not happen anytime soon
Thanks for the tip anyway

I think DeskHome only launches your Dock App (according to comments), which the Galaxy S does not have. So be careful before buying it, might be useless.

Should charge the phone at least? And it's not impossible to launch your own apps after connecting it... So saying "useless" is a bit of a stretch.

Huh? I was talking about the mentioned application "DeskHome". All it does is start the "docking station" mode of the phone, so it will probably not work with the Galaxy S. That would be a 1 $ waste....
Just download the dock app using My Market app. Set it to T-mobile.

LED Case Review

So a few days, my LED Case turned up from Korea (Yes I had it imported due to the poor stock allowances on the Samsung Estore)
I spent £55 to get it, however had £30 in Amazon Vouchers... So technically £25 including postage. I picked the Black one... (Charcoal Gray to be technically correct)
It goes well with White in my opinion.
Bought from here;
Here
My General Review;
First off lets get something straight here, The cases functionality compared to the HTC One M8 Dot View is some what limited.
Imagine David and Goliath... David being Dot View Case... Well you get some idea.
This is a niche product, that's for sure and at that price, I expect better from Samsung. I feel like they are slowly turning into Apple with their overpriced accessories.
HTC in my view priced the Dot View Case right for what it is.
I would like to have seen better quality material. Not the same that they are using on the normal flip wallet... ITs nearly £30 more then the Normal one and £15 more than the S-View Window.
On a bright side, It does have a nice feel to it regardless. Its not flimsy, it fits fine. It reacts as its supposed to and is great for telling when something is going on.
It has passive and active notification systems. When you get a phone call, it'll tell you. When you have a Facebook / Whatsapp etc, 4 little lights will move about every 20 seconds or so....
I think its great for the aesthetics. Nothing more. I wish I could have shown you how it works but for your benefit, I have included 2 videos.
My own review below; & A video showing it in action.
Final Thoughts;
I would Say 7/10. Its official, it works nicely. However for what it is, I would have wanted to pay less...

That is the general notification light for anything other than Calls, Emails or Messages using the stock Sammie Apps.
I have been using mine for about a week now and it's great. I have the Note 3 with S view and you can't really compare the two covers.
You buy the Led cover for only one reason: showing off. It's unique and cool and good looking, and for a product in this category you shouldn't expect to pay a fair price - of course it is over priced. Hell, here in Denmark I can buy some cheap windows phone for he same money I gave for the LED cover, and it's fine with me.
It would be awesome if some dev bothered to expand the funcionality of it though, like fx desplaying caller's name in one line etc. I really miss that and some other functionality from the S-view cover, but I will keep it on regardless because its cool.
my only problem with it: it doesn't cover the phone perfectly when closed (at least mine) even though its basically new and I didn's abuse it in any way. The flexible part of it is a bit too thin/soft and so it doesnt close perfectly and firmly and "swims" a bit, and I can only assume it will get worse with time. Anyways, my review of it is that it is a cool gadget with very low funcionality beyond the very basics, but very good wow effect.

Has anyone succesfully replaced the Nexus 6P battery?

I am looking to replace my battery on my Nexus 6P, I've abused it in the form of basically charging it all the time, all 8 hours at work, it sat on the charger all day, since I use it heavily. I now know the erro of my ways and I want to repalce the battery.
I've watched videos on how to do it, I know it's not easy, but it is possible. Has anyone here changed it, also where did you get the battery, I've found them anywhere form $10 to $50, I ahve no problem paying more if I know it's an OEM battery.
Thanks in advance.
Maybe someone, but I've not heard of anybody doing it....
Not here either....seems like a terrible time haha Best of luck to you if you try but when my battery life degrades to that point I will be parting with this phone and either buying another one of some sort. Even working with electronics for years there no way I'd personally succeed the first time lol

Right! The teardown video I saw made it look not that bad, and I toar apart my Galaxy Nexus to replace the USB port on it back in the fday, and that was actually fun, granted it had a removable back with easier access to screws, but still.

I have been eyeing the oneplu3 and oogling over the supposed specs on the oneplus4, so I'll probably go there as soon as it's released, but my battery is bad, I get 2 hour SOT if I'm lucky, this phone used to give me 4+ easy.

Buy extra camera glass pieces. Thats literally the only thing that normally goes wrong if you dont have a real heat gun. Dont thing hair dryers will do the trick unless your extremely patient. I plan on replacing the housing soon.

Haha yeeeeaaah all that GSM crap and all their "nice" phones Good luck if ya try man, you're more adventurous than I!
I've successfully done an internal component swap. Swapped the motherboard and battery from a very beat up N6P into one that was in excellent condition but was basically a paperweight.
The most difficult thing about this project was not getting into the phone, but getting into the phone without leaving any noticeable scratches. Removing the camera glass and the plastic strip at the bottom took at least half an hour of heating and gentle prying. Getting the screen out without a suction cup tool was a bit tricky too, i had to wedge in a chisel x-acto blade and pry it up, lucky no damage was done.
My advice would be to have on hand as many of the tools suggested in the youtube videos and to be patient while do it.

Good to know
Thinking about doing mine
I've never taken mine apart but if I plan on replacing my battery I will buy the replacement glass piece and bottom plastic piece at the same time. Those are the only pieces that can get damaged in the process.
I just watched that video. from the looks of it, so long as you take your time. and have that suction cup tool, it should be fairly straight forward. at least you are not having to separate the screen itself from the guts to get inside.
Looks like my battery is on its way as well.
Anyone sourced genuine replacement yet?

Why?
I understand the 2 out of 10 rating on iFixit after replacing the back cover on my phone. 90% of the pain is getting to the 6 screws. I don't think it is possible without scratching up the old cover. Funny thing is that I just wanted to change it from silver to black. A heat gun is a definite requirement. Not for the faint at heart for sure.
