[bootanimation] Fallout 3 plus splash! - HTC Inspire 4G

For all of the Fallout fans, I just finished putting this together. I had to shrink the bootanimation though, it was to big at just half screen, the phone wouldn't even load it....
[Splash]
Put it on the SD card, reboot into hboot, flash it (only flashes the image, does not delete data)
[Animation]
Stock users; place in /system/customize/resource and overright the stock (or rename it as a backup)
Rom users; place it in the /data/local directory, and rename it to bootanimation.zip
Currently working on getting a boot sound to put on the stock but it's being a pain.........
EDIT: Modified the time abit on the animation

So, I'm guessing this isn't good to go?
Looking forward to trying it out though.

It's good to go now, still working on the sound. Anyone know the exact sample rate of the original file?

The splash is working great but not the animation. I'm on RCMixHD Kingdom ROM and put the file in the data/local directory but I still get the HTC animation. Is the location it needs to go ROM specific?

lookin in to that...

I got it working. Had to put it in the customize/resource folder.
I like it but the video is really small.
I really like the splash though

+1 on the splash - cant wait to show it to my kid.

dunno if a vid exists....he's never usually moving, just stationary....

He is active, sort of, in some of the vault tec commercials. Like this one.

Hey there,
I'm Will, Im a noob here, I work in motion graphics for a living. I promise not to step on your lawn.
I've been tinkering with my new phone (Galaxy S3) to try and make it look like a pip boy 3000. I also thought it would be cool to have the Boot animation be similar to the games, so I had a go at creating my own [Sorry cant post URLs Yet] problem is I cant figure out how to change it on the S3.
The file formate is QGM and I havent been able to find much on how to create them.
I was wondering if you might be able to help? or maybe your interested in collaborating? :highfive:
Let me know if you want to see the one I have done and I can Email you a link.

works
so far it works pretty well!

I know this is stupid question but can i use this bootanimation on my SGS3 GT-I9300? I asked this because i was looking for different animation and i found fallout 3 animation for sgs3 on youtube. Here's the link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJF9YIOkyzo

[BOOT ANIMATION] Halo Reach - Auntie Dot

Thought I would share this with the community. I pulled these frames from Halo Reach and put them into a boot animation. The bootanimation.zip file is not something you can flash. I haven't learned how to do that yet. BUT you can use this with BootAnimationChangerTrial. You just put this zip file into the backupbootanimation folder and then inside the app do "Install backup boot animation". And If anyone could make some type of Live wallpaper out of this, I would probably crap my pants.
It is 480x800. It looks pretty good on my NexusOne. I should say this is one of the first boot animations I've done. So I apologize for the huge file size, I think its because it uses the whole screen.
Download Auntie Dot Boot Animation
HOLYY CRAP!!! Really nice!
Simply FANTASTIC.
It's awesome! To get the file size down, you could resize each frame to a lower resolution. I do mine for N1 at 200x333 and they look just as good tbh. Keep up the good work!
Very nice! I plan to make a live wallpaper of Auntie Dot once im done with my current project. Should go well with this when done.
Here ya go...I ran it through a quick optimizer. It's just a quick one, probably could do better if you wanted to spend some time with it, but it shrank around 3MB.
And I put it in an update.zip format that will place the file in /data/local/ so rom updates won't erase it unless you wipe.
Looks cool!

It can help for sure, but I doubt that little bit I did would help much. The biggest advantage is to save space, although that's not as important putting it in the data folder. Some folks like to put it in the /system/media/ folder and space there is at a premium.

there are some crappy ones on the market right now, but they suck bad.
Once i get some free time i will be making a true lwp out of this. ie random animation cycles, reacts to phone events ect.

Sorry, I had tossed this file from my dropbox a while back. I'll download the original and optimize it again.
<edit>
I actually took a closer look at this (something I didn't do earlier) and there were some additional ways to improve this besides image optimization. Also, I made it look more like the animation in the op. The original bootanimation file was over 12 MB, this one is only 815 kilobytes
I've packaged it up in an update style type zip that you flash in recovery. This will install it to /data/local. If you need/want it somewhere else (/system/customize for instance) then just extract the bootanimation.zip file from the download and push it where ever you need.
HaloReach-bootanimation-signed.zip
Thanks pendo!
That's awesome! Worked perfectly on my Nexus One running CM7 RC2.
I'm going to use this in my Honeycomb based theme for the dx. i'll give credit of course
looks amazing thanks for this!

I've tired to flash from recovery HaloReach-bootanimation-signed.zip but isn't working. I've tired to push bootanimation.zip into data/local but won't work. What can I do? I have to push it in system/media?

[boot animation] WORKING dancedroid boot anim...Flashable zips added!

This is the Droid dance boot animation that I customized a little to work good with my evo. I made it have twice as many frames and run twice as fast. It looks great and has no lag. Just rename it to bootanimation.zip and use Root Explorer to replace your original in /system/customize/resource and it should run when u reboot. If you want a sound clip to go with it use ringdroid app to make a 20 second .mp3 clip for the Droid to dance to and rename it to SPC_animation_final.mp3 and put it in the same folder. Good luck and enjoy.http://db.tt/tdsEB50
I take no credit for this other than moving some .jpgs around and renaming them and redoing the folder setup to make it work correctly. I plan to refine this alittle more and remove the black bars. Also if anyone would like to help me make a flashable zip out of this PM me and I would really appreciate it. I will upload this to mediafire when I get home from work because dropbox limits downloads. Thanks and please don't think I am trying to rip off anyone's work. It just didn't work for me off the bat so I refined it and figured I would share.
EDIT: I have a redone it to a fullscreen version and it looks much better and still runs just as good. Here is the link...bootanimation.zip
EDIT 2# I have also added 2 flashable zips for the boot animation:
1. Flashable zip for Roms that have the bootanimation.zip in \system\customize\resource (such as Baked Snack, Stock) use RingDroid.apk to cut a 20sec music clip and rename it SPC_animation_final.mp3 and put in the same folder. Here is the link.
2. Flashable zip for Roms that have the bootanimation.zip in \system\media (such as Caulklin's EVio 2) use RingDroid.apk to cut a 20sec music clip and rename it to android_audio.mp3 and put it in the same folder. Here is the link.
These 2 .ZIPS are identical other than where they place the boot animation because some roms put them in different folders. I have not tested the .ZIP for the customize folder yet because I am currently running Caulklin's amazing EVio 2 1.5 rom. Please post your results with these files and also I would appreciate it if you would rate the quality. Thanks and Good luck!
Fullscreen version now in OP.
Thanks, Ill try this out later. For Cyanogen users, the .zip also must be placed in /system/media in case anyone is wondering.
Does the audio clip have to be 20 seconds for it to work?
any chance of making it with the background being black?
sometimes it seems like it speeds through the animation.. usually it stops on him facing away (he doesn't dance until the phone has booted).. any thoughts?

if you are asking if the animation will work if the audio is not 20 seconds exactly, then yes.. mine works without audio

Tried both. Didn't work.
flashable zip 1 works on myns warm rls3. thank you
Going back to previous version with black bars. This version is too short and stops about 10-15 seconds before my phone boots up.
Ian B
Could you make it run about 10 seconds longer? Love the fullscreen otherwise.
Sorry for the problems guys, I don't use Cyanogen so I'm not sure what the problem is I would be very thankful if someone with some knowledge on making flashable zips could edit this to work on CM, I would definitely add it to the OP.
Also, I guess our phones run alittle different because the speed and timing for the bootanimation is perfect on my phone with every rom I have put it on. I will work on these as soon as I get a weekend (could possibly be after thanksgiving, sorry have been really busy at work lately). I will try slowing it down just alittle and also add some more frames and try to figure out how to make it loop correctly so it won't just freeze until the phone boots.
Sorry again for the problems, this is my first bootanimation so I'm still learning. I actually just wanted to get this working on my phone and decided to share it. I will update the OP as soon as I have the time to refine this further.
ty
thanks man!
now trying to think of a song!
o yes! thanks man!
Used the zip file and added a song.. imma add it to my post. i will give you credit!
Great Job, will try this.....
Neat!
Works great on Myn's 2.2. I picked "I Don't Feel Like Dancing" from Scissor Sisters for the boot audio. Pretty funny. I have attached the edited version I am using. It might run a little long for some (about 35 seconds) but you can use Ringdroid to edit it.
This is not a flashable zip. Just extract/unzip the .mp3 and move it to the /system/customize/resource folder. If you want to save the original boot audio file be sure to rename it before moving or copying this one.

[Q] Boot animations i9000

Hey guys, I have been told to post this here as I have not made enough posts..
I tried to change my boot animation, by placing the bootanimation.zip file in both /system/media and /data/local and all still plays the Samsung boot logo although with no sound.. So searched through the forums here and everyone tells you that you need a custom rom to get it to work if your phone has the /system/media/bootsamsung.qmg file...
I then cooked a package from romkitchen and installed that but have the same issue, even though I can see the bootanimation.zip file in /system/media/ I can also still see the bootsamsung.qmg as well.
I have only just got this phone about a week ago, so have searched thoroughly, in case I was missing something but i don't think I am..
Can someone help me with what’s going on?
No one able to help me with this one?
Hm you should easily be able to change bootanimation with the rom kitchen.
Remember that you can not change the white text at the beginning of the boot.
I think the files stay there, they dont get removed, just another one gets used if its present, if not the stock animation will be used.

I am assuming that people have got these working on i9000's before and it's just me..
I still have not managed to get this working, starting to think that I am tripping..
All it seems to do is kill the samsung boot sound.
Anyone else got any ideas?

Do you use a stock rom?
This probably doesn't work because your android is not looking for the bootanimation.zip.
Custom ROMs have a modded start up script which tells the system to look for the .zip file.
I am using a rom from rom kitchen..
I have changed it again since I made post above but still a custom rom..

Sent from my EVO 4G using XDA Premium App
I have tried selecting the bootanimation from RK, and also downloading one from elsewhere and replacing the one that is there.
Both have the same effect..
Weird,I had trouble switching mine too. The only way I've been able to do it is using the app called File Explorer. It's like 10 dollars on the market, but I found it for free. I put the new zip on my card, then file explorer/system/media, delete the boot animation zip, paste the new zip & rename it to the name of the zip that was there. It's worked every time. Flashing a new splash screen is a little different....

I will try this again now and see how i go..
Just to clarify the splash screen is the white text right?
I am not trying to change that just the colored samsung animation.
The splash screen is the first screen you see when you turn your phone on. It doesn't move, & most often just says the name of the phone. Then the boot animation comes on, it moves & plays some kind of music. Do you have file explorer? If not, don't buy it,I can help you get it for free.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
I have Root Explorer that I use to access that location.
I have tried another bootanimation from this spot -http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905538
I tried both of the sizes for the AndroidParticles2 and set the permissions to rw-r-r
(Renaming to bootanimations.zip and placing in system\media)
but still the samething happens.
Yeah, my bad,I meant Root Explorer. But it had to be bootanimation.zip take the s off
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Sorry typo, I don't have the s on my i9000.
Well that's how I change mine. I did download a particle ring android (blue) and couldn't get it to work right. Seems to me like you're doing everything right. There's one other option I know of. Download a free program called android flasher.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794638
You should be able to flash boot animations & splash screens with no problem. It is a .rar, so if you don't have the program you'll need to download winrar or something similar to extract & install the files. Google it, the program is free.

It appears to just be for the Desire..
Thanks for your help today, at least I know now that I wasn't just doing something stupid.

[BOOT ANIMATION] V2.0 - Retrograde Sensation (Hero is back...)

Like some people, I missed the little 'droid boot animation from my HTC Hero.
So I've made one for my Sensation...
As you can see from the YouTube clip above, it's a re-work of the original Hero boot
It's available to download from here : https://sites.google.com/site/techbobbins/home/articles/retrograde-sensation
It also incorporates the black HTC "quietly brilliant" graphic already available on XDA (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193798&highlight=black+htc) - so credit where that is due (mexxxico)
Just put the .zip & .mp3 into /data/local (or just the .zip if you don't want the noise!)
NOTE: This animation was created for use (initially) with ARHD 1.1.8 - if your bootanimation.zip goes elsewhere, put it (and the mp3) in the relevant location.
splash.img is obviously just the splash image, and instructions for getting that up are here...
UPDATE: I have now (30/08/2011) released V2.0, in which I have :
updated the main animation to be reflected (although I have not yet made the 'droid character reflect!)
reduced the .zip by 176K (size matters!)
amended the timings slightly to (IMO) better match the sound
removed the 'non-reflected' splash image - only the reflected one is available now
NB: Someone noted the reflected text is hard to see - it's as close as I could get it to the Hero one, and thus is very faded - if you tilt the top of your phone toward your eyes and "look down" on the phone, you'll definitely see it
Hope you like it
pushed the bootanimation only, it works great and looks great! thanks so much!
Welcome
When I get some more time, I'll add the faded mirror text under Sensation (like it was on the Hero originally) - but for a first stab, I'm happy
Ow, so lovely Thanks you made this, mate! That was the only thing I missed about my Hero!
Great work! Best boot animation for sensation so far!

If you are rooted (which you presumably are), get an adb shell up and run
Code:
find / -name *animation.zip
It will return any file ending animation.zip (such as bootanimation.zip) with the full path. If you have a TMOUS for example, I believe they put their file in the resource dir, whereas ARHD lives in /data/local
Find your existing one, and put your chosen ones in that location with the same name - just backup the old one first

hi,ive got the bootanimation to work but im finding it very very hard to get the sound working also, ive tried putting it in data/local didin't work...ive now got bootanimation in system/customize/resource and works PERFECTLY,i've tried puttin the mp3 file in system/media/ringtones........NO JOY........i've set permission to RW-R-R. Please could u tell me what i've done wrong........THANKS
It seems some custom roms vary.
Mine (ARHD) is quite happy in /data/local - called android_audio.mp3
Try calling it android.mp3, and putting in the resource directory.
Also, you don't need to reboot to try it, you can simply run adb shell, and run "bootanimation" from the # prompt
This thread (here) shows the anim being renamed as well, so it's a bit rom dependant!
Happy hunting though!

Very good boot. Any plan to update?
If you do, any chance you can modify the splash/boot so that when transition is smoother?
Also, the Quitly Brilliant "Sound" is a little late compared to the animation.
Does the build.prop determine default file name and location for resources like splashes and boot animations?

Can't modify the splash/boot transition timing...
The splash.img is a ROM item (BMP converted directly from one of the JPGs in the anim), and the 1st graphic frame of the animation is the same dimensions/image (barring reflection) - it's how the phone O/S cuts over....
I should be able to work on the sound/sync - it's the exact audio file from the Hero, which I don't want to play with - so I may be able to shorten (or speed up ) the Sensation fade out so the audio is in quicker.

Boot animation not changing in nexus 5

Hey guys, today i tried to change my boot animation with ROM toolbox but it failed. Then i also tried by copying boot animation.zip in root/system/media but still it didn't change.
What should i do ?
put the bootanimation.zip into (root)/data/local/, save and reboot(with a root file explorer). if its still not working, then wont work with the n5. rom toolbox is an old app, and has old boot animations. its possible they wont work with the n5.
@simms22
Worked by placing zip in data/local
Thanks , from where can i get batman boot animation for nexus 5 .
Tried google it bt no good results

if you do find older boot animations, most will be tiny on the n5screen.n because the n5 has a much greater screen resolution than any older device. i havent seen any newer batman boot animations.

Old or not, there's no reason they shouldn't work. If they aren't made for this specific screen resolution, all you need to do is unzip the animation, batch resize all the images in the the folders, edit desc.txt and compress it back to a zip file again. Pretty simple, actually! :good:
