[Q] Which monoprice usb 3.0 cable for charging ? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Monoprice has two different 6ft USB 3.0 cables:
product id 6506 and product id 7821.
Has anyone tried both or either of these and found if both or either works for charging the transformer (as an extension cable):
http://www.monoprice.com/products/search.asp?keyword=usb+3.0+extension+cable&x=0&y=0

All those should work. I have the 6ft gold plated one myself. BTW get the gold plated one it's cheaper, I have no idea why it would be considering it should be the better cable.
BTW do yourself a favor since you're paying shipping anyway and buy a couple of these.

I bought 6506 and works great.
Also other is on back order.

Hence why I said to combine the shipping with the cable. I'm in cali I'd pay practically the same shipping on two cables from mono price without the solution as I do with it.

My shipping for 3 cables was 2.5; throw in the clean and it jumps to 9

There is a thread about this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1055203
I ordered the 6ft cable (6506) from Monoprice and it would not charge. The TF screen would come on when I plugged in, but the charging icon would not appear. Ordered the 3ft cable (6505), and it works fine. At first it didn't, but then I pushed the TF cable even more firmly into the USB 3.0 cable, and it began to charge, and it's been that way for a week now.

I ordered the 6506 and it charges just fine. Because the cable is not branded, all that we really know is that it's a blue 6ft USB 3.0 cable. There is no telling whether or not everyone gets the SAME EXACT cable when they order. Maybe they order stock of 6ft Blue USB 3.0 from multiple manufacturers expecting them to perform the same when they really don't. Fwiw, mine also works properly as a data cable when connected to my PC.

I ended up getting the 6506; will post a follow up when I've tested it. I also picked up the female to female usb 3.0; so I can try a tumb drive; will also comment on that.

I ordered this guy. I have not tried it yet, but other people say it works.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003YNQ6DK
I ordered mine from seller Amazon.com, LLC which is a bit more expensive, but I get free shipping (Amazon Prime member), no tax, and 30 day returns.

I ordered a couple of 6ft cables and both of them worked. Even connecting the two 6ft cables together I can still charge my tablet.

The cable/adapters i ordered arrived yesterday. The 6506 cable seems to work fine for charging (if I put it between the units cable and the charger; the charging indicator goes on ).
-
However when I used the gender change on the transformer cable and then plug in a usb flash drive nothing happen
-
Oh well. I tried both a usb 2.0 and usb 3.0 gender change (they were cheap) neither seemed to work.
-
I might try again when 3.1 is out and I might try the asus widget if it is cheap.
-
Have not tried the hdmi cable yet.

I ordered a 6506 from Monoprice and unfortunately it didn't work for me
I can't seem to get the tablet to charge with this cable.

Cheap micro USB cables that fit Captivate

I went to amazon.com to find more cables...
First I ordered "BlackBerry USB Cable Micro USB 1.0m (Black)" because it was 0.82 after shipping.
It was too wide at the head.
Then I found "Samsung Replacement USB Data Charging Cable for Samsung SPH-M330, SCH-R100, SGH-T939, SCH-R850" and I ordered 2 of them for $4.48 after shipping.
The photo looks exactly like our cable.
However now I guess I have 2 more blackberry cables.
What have you guys been doing to get cheap cables?
Should I just file down the plastic?
Nevermind I just grabbed an exacto knife and cut down the plastic a little.
I bought a couple of these off the bay. Work perfectly, but they are shorter cables.

Very helpful.
Startngate, what is the length of this cable. The stock cable that came with the phone has the same shape micro usb connector as the one shown in the photo. My stock cable is 5 feet long, and I don't think of that as particularly short. Anyway, knowing how long the supposed oem cable is would be helpful.
Thanks.
I bought a pair of MiniUSB-to-MicroUSB adapters for $2.99 and have been very pleased. I have a plethora of MiniUSB cables, so these adapters allow me to use my existing cables. However, I did have to shave one end at a 45 deg angle so it would properly fit in the Captivate.

MiniUSB is the larger plug

Doh! My bad. I did buy the correct adapter, but yes, it is a MiniUSB-to-MicroUSB adapter not the other way around. Thanks for the correction! I just noticed the url has it backwards as well. I must have read the url as I was typing the post.

Ouch. Damn. Certainly not "OEM" then. The connector, yes... but the OEM cable is much longer.
I'd love some spares of that... much thinner and more-flexible than the Monoprice cable (which I have several of).

Yep. 3 feet is correct on the length.
I bought two and use one for in-car (with car lighter adapter close to where my phone sits) and the other is attached to my wall charger. My 5 footer that came with my phone is connected to my PC now and routed to a convenient spot for flashing ROMs. Length hasn't bothered me.

Galaxy S4 USB Cord

Hi !
I broke my usb cable so I can't charge my phone anymore...
I looked online but I can't find an "official" usb cord. I know that if you don't use the right one, things like ODIN may fail...
Does anyone know a good USB cord reference for the vzw s4 ?
Thanks !
Any micro USB cord should work. I've used the original and many cheap ones without problems.

It may charge but not connect to the computer i have had this issue in the past with other phones.
Generally any official or name brand cords should work it doesn't have to be the Samsung one, I'm still using my Blackberry branded cords without issue, if you are really worried i would recommend getting the cable from a major online retailer like newegg or Ncix or Canada Computers (if you are in Canada)

Not "any" micro USB cord would deliver the full 1900 mA that the stock S4 charger provides. It works but it will charge slower.
I've tested a bunch of cables and found that the iFrogz is the most reliable. It is capable of delivering 1900 mA or higher (when used with Nexus 7, etc). On top of it, the plug is slim, so it will work with thick cases or those with small cutout.
The pink ones can be found on eBay for $3.50. Other colors can be found on Amazon for $6. I like them non-black so I can find it easy among all the cables.
Hope this helps.

I have been using my first usb cord... think it came with my og droid with no issues
I have a couple of Nokia USB cables that are very reliable for both data and charging.
I have several monoprice usb cords. They all work fine and charge as fast as the oem cord.
Majority of the cords on ebay claim they sell the oem cable, they are like 1 to 1 copy, they are not OEM, but they do offer reasonable quality and speed, and do offer data transfer at a low cost compare to the actual OEM one's.

Micro usb to usb c

5.99 for converter of older cables. I like these instead of buying new cables at this time since I have a ton of micro usb stuff still. Any reason I shouldn't use these? I'm sure it won't charge as fast as stock charger/file xfer, but otherwise?

I ordered some cheapo ones from eBay but they will probably get here before the actual phone. They should def be slower but I think the charging should be comparable.
I was about to ask the same thing. Those look good enough. I don't want to replace all my cables especially since some of them do double duty (charge PS4 remote).
Whenever i buy some type c cables I'm going to buy like $50 worth so I can have them in the myriad of places I keep them.

Would love to see some sort of sticky charging guide here. Not sure if I should be buying adapters, c to c, standard to c, new chargers, or what...
I'm thinking I'll keep my current 6 port charger and just getting some adapters so the micro usb can still charge, but really don't want to lose the quick charge feature, so maybe I should replace my charger, i probably should replace all my cables, they're getting kind of worn and I know sometimes the cheaper ones won't charge @ 2 amps.
New car charger?
Already going to have to replace our tylt wireless chargers we have by the bed, would love a usbc dock I guess...
ugh too much research to do again....I guess that's the silver lining of the phone not getting here for over a month
Will be interesting to see if anyone can get some solid numbers on how much these affect the charging rate.
I think ill use my standard cables with the adapter for a while. Til i get to know them better.
I'm really hoping I don't have to be stressed about fast charging otherwise it's going to go back to Google.
dx.com has a 5-pack for about $5, free shipping doesn't kick in until $15 spent, so you might as well browse.
I just bought a 4-pack of USB C cables in Amazon for $20 and called it a day. That + the one that comes with the phone should be a good start.

Yeah, that's what I bought. Supposed to arrive next Wednesday.
I have no clue if those cables will limit charging speeds. No real way to tell until we get the phone and compare with the cable shipped with the phone.

Nope, just a USB Type-C to Type-C cable, a USB Type-C 15W (5V/3A) charger and a USB Type-C to Standard-A cable. Nothing to micro-USB.

They are obviously only 2.0 cables but I figure unless you're spending big bucks right now on 3.0 A -> 3.1 C cables (or even 3.1 C -> 3.1 C with new chargers), pretty much ANYTHING we buy right now will be replaced later once we have more mainstream 3.x cables to buy at good prices from Anker or somebody. But this is the best price I could find for 4x cables that have good reviews. I've found a few that are a tad cheaper but with no reviews, so I decided this was the right answer for me.

Belkin and Anker cables recommended
My experience with Type-A to Type-C cables with my Nexus 5X:
I initially tried a 1m Bestek cable which was very inconsistent for charging and got returned. My suspicion is that it didn't meet the Type-C resistor spec.
I have had good experiences with a 1.8m Belkin cable (but v. expensive) and several 1m Anker cables (mid-price).
I ordered the revised Orzly cable last night from Amazon (the individual one, not the 4 pack - don't need that many right now). I know the Pixel C comes with a charging cable, but I wasn't sure if the power adapter was removable to use for data transfer. Either way, it'll be nice to have the extra cable as I'll keep the power one plugged in by my bedside and keep the other one with the other USB cables by my computer.
I'm thinking about getting this:
http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Digi...d=1449677741&sr=8-2&keywords=Kingston+DTDUO3C
I already have a OTG cable that I bought for my Nexus 6P but this looks like it would be pretty handy on the go. Does anyone have any experience with this storage stick?
Got my Pixel C today (in UK) and can confirm the charger doesn't have a cable that removes :-\
Update 11/12 got a type c to c and type c to a data/charging cable today, the c to c works fine and the data transfer speeds are ace, approx. 30 secs per 1gb of data from pc to laptop on a usb 3.1 port and around 40 secs per 1gb the other way, this is the cable I got: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B014P2DBJA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00
I also bought an A to C cable too, this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B011TH8BB2?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00 and no joy at all geting it to work as a data cable, tried using every type A port (usb 2 & 3) on my gaming pc and on a work laptop too, the Pixel shows as if it is charging for a split second then nothing. Tried to same cable with a numerous wall socket/chargers and same behaviour, so faulty/non-compatible cable I guess. Anyone have a link to a working type A to C cable (UK) please ?

I can confirm the Bestek A to C cables don't work well. See my post above for UK A to C cables. Belkin is pricey but excellent, Anker is mid-price.

Sorry missed your link before, I ended up with this Orzly one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B018F8BDFE only had the red one in stock! lol But to be fair it will stop me getting it mixed up with an old/standard one! Works great for both data and charging (using a wall socket with type a or via pc).
I have the red Orzly too, it smells like a chewing gum, from an outdoor vending machine. The tool CheckR told me that this one is not recommended using with the Pixel.
As I initially bought it for my 1+2 phone, I can't blame me too much in that case.
Can I use inbox typc c to type a USB + female USB a couples as a otg ? Will the type c resistor suits this config ?
If you are in Australia, I picked up one of these Belkin cables from JB HiFi, very expensive but been spot on for both data and charging the device

Play it safe and don't spend a lot of money. I recommend this USB A to C cable from Belkin F2CU032BT06, comes in various colors and it is USB-IF certified..
Can be bought for about $10 shipped http://www.ebay.com/itm/Belkin-MIXIT...W/322397095951
I also own this 6 pack and they have worked well with my Pixel XL and the Pixel C https://www.amazon.com/1-6ftx1-3-3ftx4-6-6ftx1-Hi-speed-ChromeBook/dp/B01MG36MBZ
I just ordered some of these https://www.amazon.com/CHOETECH-1x1-6ft-4x3-3ft-1x6-6ft-OnePlus/dp/B01N4E9AN6 and https://www.amazon.com/Cable-CHOETECH-Packs-3-3ft-Braided/dp/B01LX8GCZ5
Listed in this deal alert http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/0...-type-c-cable-multi-packs-sale-amazon-35-off/
Got in my Choetech 3pack and 6pack USB A to Type-C today. Man great sturdy build same as the C-C version. The braided is so nice, and transfer speeds on both cables are whopping fast! Good charging, tested several different brand OEM chargers. I ordered these after seeing they were on sale again on a slickdeals post and though I'd take advantage.
UPDATE: using the USB Device Tree Viewer application on Windows 10 I am able to see this cable is able to negotiate SuperSpeed on my ASUS Z97-A. Dirty testing transferring a 1GB zip file from the PIXEL C to my Samsung EVO 120 SSD it takes roughly 20 secs to complete. By comparison it takes twice as long in Highspeed USB ports roughly 42 secs to complete the same test. Similar results as my Belkin 3.1 ss10 cable.

Extra Long USB C Cable

I drive a truck, I need a 6ft cable to reach my phone. I have seen from the posts here that quality and real functionality can vary greatly for what seems to be the same things. What brand or even be link specific to a high quality cable. I'll be using the Belkin car charger.
Just grab a ul type c to type a and grab a a-male to a-female extension.
The USB extension will come in handy one day I'm sure, and it's nice to have a a-c cable
I've always had good luck with my choetech cables
Tried the cheotech 6ft cable..... it lasted 4 days and quit working.
Still looking for a long high quality cable. Using the one that came with the phone for now but it is too short for the way I want to arrange things in the truck.

They have good customer service email them and they'll send you a new cable. Duds happen, I've had a bunch of their cables with nary a problem.
I just bought a 6ft cable from AmazonBasics. No complaints about it. I believe they have a 9ft cable too.
Just get a normal usb A extension.
I have used this one for almost two years and it's worked very well for me, I have used it to only charge, and used it plugged into the computer on occasion and has worked flawlessly. It's braided and solid, 10 ft is a bit longer than you mentioned but I find the extra length helps.

Anker makes some quality cables and they make a 10ft cable that I have been using forever:
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerL...d=1522244932&sr=8-4&keywords=anker+usb+c+10ft
I have been using this one for a while now - seems really sturdy and has worked really well. Plus, you know, different colors. This one is 10' but I believe they make them in different lengths. BEst of luck, enjoy your phone!
