Cheap micro USB cables that fit Captivate - Captivate General

I went to amazon.com to find more cables...
First I ordered "BlackBerry USB Cable Micro USB 1.0m (Black)" because it was 0.82 after shipping.
It was too wide at the head.
Then I found "Samsung Replacement USB Data Charging Cable for Samsung SPH-M330, SCH-R100, SGH-T939, SCH-R850" and I ordered 2 of them for $4.48 after shipping.
The photo looks exactly like our cable.
However now I guess I have 2 more blackberry cables.
What have you guys been doing to get cheap cables?
Should I just file down the plastic?

Nevermind I just grabbed an exacto knife and cut down the plastic a little.

I bought a couple of these off the bay. Work perfectly, but they are shorter cables.

Very helpful.
Startngate, what is the length of this cable. The stock cable that came with the phone has the same shape micro usb connector as the one shown in the photo. My stock cable is 5 feet long, and I don't think of that as particularly short. Anyway, knowing how long the supposed oem cable is would be helpful.
Thanks.

I bought a pair of MiniUSB-to-MicroUSB adapters for $2.99 and have been very pleased. I have a plethora of MiniUSB cables, so these adapters allow me to use my existing cables. However, I did have to shave one end at a 45 deg angle so it would properly fit in the Captivate.

Just FYI
MicroUSB is what the Captivate uses (smaller plug)
MiniUSB is the larger plug

Doh! My bad. I did buy the correct adapter, but yes, it is a MiniUSB-to-MicroUSB adapter not the other way around. Thanks for the correction! I just noticed the url has it backwards as well. I must have read the url as I was typing the post.

Ouch. Damn. Certainly not "OEM" then. The connector, yes... but the OEM cable is much longer.
I'd love some spares of that... much thinner and more-flexible than the Monoprice cable (which I have several of).

Yep. 3 feet is correct on the length.
I bought two and use one for in-car (with car lighter adapter close to where my phone sits) and the other is attached to my wall charger. My 5 footer that came with my phone is connected to my PC now and routed to a convenient spot for flashing ROMs. Length hasn't bothered me.

its micro B there are 2 micro types

[Q] Which monoprice usb 3.0 cable for charging ?

Monoprice has two different 6ft USB 3.0 cables:
product id 6506 and product id 7821.
Has anyone tried both or either of these and found if both or either works for charging the transformer (as an extension cable):
http://www.monoprice.com/products/search.asp?keyword=usb+3.0+extension+cable&x=0&y=0
All those should work. I have the 6ft gold plated one myself. BTW get the gold plated one it's cheaper, I have no idea why it would be considering it should be the better cable.
BTW do yourself a favor since you're paying shipping anyway and buy a couple of these.

Hence why I said to combine the shipping with the cable. I'm in cali I'd pay practically the same shipping on two cables from mono price without the solution as I do with it.
My shipping for 3 cables was 2.5; throw in the clean and it jumps to 9

There is a thread about this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1055203
I ordered the 6ft cable (6506) from Monoprice and it would not charge. The TF screen would come on when I plugged in, but the charging icon would not appear. Ordered the 3ft cable (6505), and it works fine. At first it didn't, but then I pushed the TF cable even more firmly into the USB 3.0 cable, and it began to charge, and it's been that way for a week now.
I ordered the 6506 and it charges just fine. Because the cable is not branded, all that we really know is that it's a blue 6ft USB 3.0 cable. There is no telling whether or not everyone gets the SAME EXACT cable when they order. Maybe they order stock of 6ft Blue USB 3.0 from multiple manufacturers expecting them to perform the same when they really don't. Fwiw, mine also works properly as a data cable when connected to my PC.
I ended up getting the 6506; will post a follow up when I've tested it. I also picked up the female to female usb 3.0; so I can try a tumb drive; will also comment on that.
I ordered this guy. I have not tried it yet, but other people say it works.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003YNQ6DK
I ordered mine from seller Amazon.com, LLC which is a bit more expensive, but I get free shipping (Amazon Prime member), no tax, and 30 day returns.
I ordered a couple of 6ft cables and both of them worked. Even connecting the two 6ft cables together I can still charge my tablet.
The cable/adapters i ordered arrived yesterday. The 6506 cable seems to work fine for charging (if I put it between the units cable and the charger; the charging indicator goes on ).
-
However when I used the gender change on the transformer cable and then plug in a usb flash drive nothing happen
-
Oh well. I tried both a usb 2.0 and usb 3.0 gender change (they were cheap) neither seemed to work.
-
I might try again when 3.1 is out and I might try the asus widget if it is cheap.
-
Have not tried the hdmi cable yet.
I ordered a 6506 from Monoprice and unfortunately it didn't work for me
I can't seem to get the tablet to charge with this cable.

10' / 3 meter Data/Charging Cable that is -Almost as Good as Stock - for $7 shipped

I just got my 10' data/charging cable in from Amazon. It was $7 delivered via Amazon Prime.
Mediabridge Hi-Speed USB 2.0 - (10 Feet) - A-Male to Micro-B Cable
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CTUIT20/ref=oh_details_o02_s01_i06?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I tested it on the stock charger vs. the stock charging cable. And both cables charged the phone at the same 1900 rate (see attached screenshots). :good:
This should hopefully mean the phone charges at the same speed regardless of which cable is used.
And I put the cable into my computer and didn't have any trouble transferring data files around.
The cable is about 50% thicker than stock cable and appears to be very nice quality. The Micro-USB connector end is a little tight when plugging into the Galaxy S4 port. The connector ends are the same length.
I'm not able to test audio functionality.
It doesn't matter which cable you use if you use the stock wall plug.

Does the connector fit thru the Neo Hybrid?
Yea, I think its the wall plug that actually does the fast charging we all know and love.
I don't trust that app. I get 1900 or just about every cable I've tried, but the charge time doesn't T match with the numbers. BMW shows more accurate measurements. Not as real time results

No. I had to trim mine with a xacto knife.
I am looking for a 1m black charging cable for my car than can deliver max current. The thinner the better, if possible.
Any suggestions?

Of course it does. You really have some reading to do if this is what you think.
Cable gauge and impedance of the connectors are the two hugest factors of a cable.

Yes and no.
You can get a wall-plug that has pins 2 & 3 shorted which does the fast charging.
Or you can use a standard charger and use a charging-only cable which has pins 2 & 3 shorted. Or you can modify your data/charge cable to be a charge-only cable.

Yeah, you're right that app was NOT accurate.
I found that you can view the file (see 1st attached pic) that shows you the correct charge rate, directly from the Android OS (battery_current_now). And this cable only charges at 1360. Which is still better than a Galaxy S3 stock charger/cable I believe.
So it's a good cable indeed. Just not gonna get a 1900 charge rate out of it.

Power bank with built-in Type-C cable?

Does anyone know of any power banks with Type-C with a cable built into them? I can find a lot of them for MicroUSB and Lightning, but none for USB-C. (I ask because my previous phone had wireless charging, so I used a Qi power bank to avoid having to bring a cable with me, but I can't do that anymore.)
Bump.

Interesting product, shame it doesn't have a built in cable though
Have a look at eg. the iVoler 10000mAh Power Bank. This one doesn´t have a built in USB Type C cable but it offers a small cable which fits in every pocket. I guess that this is still better than nothing?

Yes, a Type-C version of that is exactly what I'm looking for. At this point, I'd even be happy with a MicroUSB one that had a slot to keep a MicroUSB-to-TypeC adapter in (like how some now have slots for MicroUSB-to-Lightning adapters).

I thought about that too, but I'm worried that a type-C adapter won't fit in the Lightning slot since it's bigger.
Still no powerbank with built in type C cable?
I bought on aliexpress, Aukey 16000mah with Quick Charge 2.0 and USB-C.
Sorry my bad English

I think you misunderstand. This thread is not about finding a powerbank that have USB C port on it. It's about finding a powerbank that have a USB C cable permanently attached to it. Something like this, but USB Type-C:

I purchased Aukey power bank from amazon several months ago.. the specs are the following: 30000 Mah, 2 usb type A ( one of them supports qc 3.0) and usb type c slot, microusb port is for charging purposes. I'm very satisfied with the product and I recommend u to take a look at it.

Really fat/thick Usb-c cable?

Hi all
Bit of a strange one,
I'm looking for a really fat USB A-C cable to charge my phone whilst in my car - the current cable will constantly get stuck under the i-drive controller and its a pain in the backside!
does anyone know of any exceptionally fat cables or a tape or rubber which can go over the cable which won't make it too stiff?
thanks
Put tape around the cord maybe?
I have one that's about three times thicker than traditional cables, it was also on the approved list, let me find the link

Check out the Type C, iOrange-E cables on amazon. I've had one since I got the phone last December and its probably the best USB cable I've ever owned. I've actually ordered 4 more since for family/friends that have similar phones. The great part is they have a 6ft option which i've found perfect for the car and since its a braided cable it doesn't really get tangled or anything. Good for replacing the one that comes with the phone too as it gives you a bit more length if you tend to charge it on a nightstand. Also, the cables are up to type C specs too, so no worry about frying the phone.

EverDock USB Type-C Adapter Review

Ever since I got my Nexus 6P, I have been searching for a charging dock I can use with it. Although there are several USB Type-C charging docks available on sites like Amazon, none of them support fast charging. Once I heard that FUZ Designs released a USB Type-C adapter for the EverDock, I ordered both the adapter and the dock. The adapter comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable, so I was excited to finally get a charging dock that supports fast charging. I have now received my order, and it leaves a lot to be desired. The good news is that the included USB-C to USB-C cable is made by Anker, and appears to be identical to this one on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.ca/Anker-Devices-Including-MacBook-ChromeBook/dp/B0119OI9XU/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
The cable appears to be of good quality, and rapid charging works. The EverDock itself is also fine. The problem is the USB Type-C adapter. First of all it was clearly made with a 3D printer, as the edges of the adapter are very rough. Comparing the quality of the USB Type-C adapter to the included Lightning adapter is night and day. Second, because the edges of the adapter are very rough, it is very difficult to insert and remove the adapter from the EverDock. I could live with both of those issues, but the deal-breaker is the fact that the adapter does not sit flush with the base of the EverDock. The top portion of the adapter is too tall, so it juts out with the USB plug. The adapter cannot fit inside the EverDock's silicone bases, and docking the phone so elevated from the base makes it unstable. The order includes two adapters, with one meant for phones without a case and the other for phones with a case. The difference is seen in the length of the top portion of the adapters, but both are too tall to sit flushed with the base of the EverDock. Here are some pictures I took (the adapter intended to be used for phones with cases has "N C" engraved on the front):
http://imgur.com/a/f2sRA
I have contacted Fuz Designs support to see if these problem can be addressed, and will post any updates I receive. In the meantime, I would recommend against buying the EverDock USB Type-C adapter.
I just got mine (expect type-c to usb-a cable, also anker) today and quality is indeed fairly horrible...
I also have problems getting cable flush with bottom, since it's so bloody thick (I forced it in finally, removed and noticed that most of plastic is removed and inside cables are visible).

I was able to get the Anker USC-C to USB-C cable flush with the bottom without much trouble. It did leave some marks on the cable, but it didn't expose the inner cables. Maybe the USB-C to USB-A cable is thicker?
Could be, but more of really bad planning from Fuz Designs.

Wow, that is definitely thicker than the Anker USB-C to USB-C cable. BTW I emailed FUZ Designs customer support last weekend, and I have still not heard back from them.
I can confirm these are kinda garbage right now. They actually took the "product" back off the site. I didn't even get offered the choice between a C-C cable or an A-C cable (which would've been my preference, since I have a "charging table" that's supplied by an Anker 5-port charger). They sent me a C-C cable so I can use the factory 5x charger... which has annoying coil whine / squeal when it's charging. :/ Also, the cables I was sent (I ordered two) were the older style Anker with a cylinder-style strain relief instead of the smoothed / molded thing on their "upgrade" cable you linked above.
The "no case" version of the adapter won't even seat into a Nexus 5x that has no case on it. Doesn't quite stick up enough to make full contact, phone doesn't think it's plugged in.
The with-case version works but only with ultra thin cases, partially due to the angle at which the connector comes out (tilting the whole phone back more than it needs to be).
Received my today and they are total garbage. I ordered one of each and none of them are satisfactory. Sent Fuz an email seeking a refund
I did get a response from FUZ Designs about the lackluster quality of their USB Type-C adapter, and they admitted that it was 3D printed in their office. They showed me this picture of how the EverDock should look after installed, and asked me if mine looked the same:
http://imgur.com/Igg5c23
It appears that they used the case adapter in that photo. When I initially inserted the USB Type-C cable into the adapter, the plug stuck out more than was shown in their photo. After applying a considerable amount of force I was able to make the plug sit flushed in the adapter, and with the case adapter installed it matches the picture Fuz Designs sent me. Now my phone isn't as elevated as it was previously when docked.
However, aside from the rough quality of the adapter I still have two issues with it. First, the silicone bases cannot fit on the EverDock with the adapter installed, because the adapter still does not sit flushed in the EverDock. Second, after inserting the USB Type-C plug flushed into the adapter, the bottom of the plug sticks out of the bottom of the dock. I am unable to route the USB Type-C cable on the bottom of the dock, and I do not know how the people at Fuz Designs were able to get the dock to sit flat with the cable installed.
I emailed Fuz Designs back to see if they can address these remaining issues, but it has now been a week without a response. My experience with Fuz Designs’ support has been very unsatisfactory, as I had to wait several business days to get responses to my inquiries about the delay in the shipment of the USB Type-C adapter, my first email regarding the quality of the adapter, and the lack of a response to my reply. Based on their poor customer service and the quality of the adapter I will not be buying any Fuz Designs products in the future. I will be investigating DIY-solutions to salvage the money I spent on the EverDock.
so sad, the dock looks nice, but all these quality issues and lack of proper tolerances are just such a turn off
After we have received a few of the cables back we noticed that some are thick, and others are not. I believe that wherever these cables are coming from they have different versions of the cable manufactured at different times in the same stock.
Unfortunately ordering a new cable is a risk since they may just be sending out the thicker cables now. Which is also the issue we've experienced with almost all other USB C cables.

Got that kinda email from Fuz Designs, while adapter is low quality, cable issues seem to be worst, which falls for Anker quality issues.

I also purchased the USB C adapter - Fuz didn't want to sell me one since they've been having problems such as yours, but I pressured them into it and they finally relented and took my order. It took four months to get them and they didn't supply the cable, but have me the link to Amazon for the cable you mention. However Anker actually stopped selling that cable and Amazon substituted another Anker cable. While the cable itself is of excellent quality, it doesn't work at all with the EverDock becuase the cable is too thick - it won't go in the channel in the base of the dock so it won't sit flat, won't "stick" to the desk, so it makes the dock useless. And of course, as you mention, the silicon bases don't fit over it correctly so it doesn't work anyway.
I'm trying to see if I can find a "thin" USB C cable that will work with the EverDock channel, figuring I can use a dremel on the adapter to make the connector fit. If anyone else has been able to find a cable that works I'd appreciate hearing about it.

Please keep us updated. I love my EverDocks but they haven't gotten back to me about the USB-C adaptor or cable from months ago...
Looking for adapter too
I am also looking for these usb c adapters for my everdocks :/
I have a friend with a 3D printer I will try to check with him if printing an adapter would be something feasible to do. It would be so simple if Fuz Designs could provide the 3D printer plan they used to work on it and make it better...
