so today was a good day. for one i was blessed to wake up this morning and to top it of i held a ATT FUZE in my hand. it was the best 10 plus minutes in my life while i was wearing clothes lol. yes people i was at the store today in Milford, CT. the sales associate there had a test model. and i must say it is everything you would have guessed it would be. first off both the stores i went to in the Milford, CT area said the phone will be available the first week in november. so the oct. 23 date is a farse. the guy at the store named weel call "joe the plumber" (cause he is so famous these days) said he had his training on this past tuesday. and most likely the phone will be in his words. "the same price as the tilt when it came out or price competativaly with the iphone. with the rebate if u get the data upgrade." im probally not going to say any thing about the phone you dont know but it reafems the fact that it is real and is as good as advertized. and in the Milford store i was told i was the only person to ask about the phone so i should be the only one with it for a while. im the 1st person in the list for the saleperson. i cant wait for that call in november.
the phone= it self has the diamond back like the unlocked version. i dont know i asked why cause sprints diamond has a soft touch back and he said "the test group didnt like that feture." but i said if ur typing on the table the phone will wiggle cause of the uneven back. i think att was lazy and told htc to change the keyboard and ship the phone out. lol. and the phone is so light. the tilt is a brick compared to this phone. i currently hava lg cu500 and it is bout .25" taller and not much thicker. and that is good cause you get a ful keybaord.
the keyboard= lost the upper top row of just numbers. but it has a lot of quick bottons for text and internet and such. also has a phone style number pad on the keyboard. the keys felt nice and the sliding was smooth. and the screen responded nice. though the accelerometer was not as resposive as he iphone when you moved the phone when viewing webpages. but the zoom was sick.
the camera= i didnt really take pics but the pics he toke and had on the phone was clear. he also showed me the card reader program. with this program you take a pic of a bussines card and it scans the info and make a new ocntact on your phone. it toke like 15 sec for it to scan i thought it froze but it was understandable and still amazinfg when all the info was pust in the correct name, address, etc. sections on the screen. the touch flo with pics are amazing and the screen is so nice. the phone had a led flash if i remember correct. i was so distracted by the pretty screen and touch flo i didnt take time to look much at the buttons and such on the phnone. but i temember a white/yellow thing below the camera lense.
what the phone comes with. the phone i looked at was a test phone so jow said all he got in his black unmarked box was cd, phone, usb, and charger. i know when i went to the sprint store in Hamden, CT where i live and looked at the diamond it came with that and a holtster, air buds, screen protector. i hope att add these things cause for the price i kinda expect it, and htc makes them for the unlocked phone so it should happen.
touch flo was sick. it works as adverticed. they obviously added a att store tab. the pics scrooled nice, and the music player was cool. the contact was scroolable too. i mean everything that you already know is there.
so in closing. the 1st week in november is the date to look for. not this oct 23 but im ok with being proved wrong lol. please excuse and grammer errors. the price should be $300- $400 with the rebate. its not the iphone so they are not going to make there money of volume. and if i remember correct it is a dark red color. i hope this was helpfull to someone cause i was excited when i saw it. though i played it cool. lol Thanks

That's a loooong story... Here's mine:
Bought one on eBay, had it for 3 weeks, sold for $100 more than I paid, it was fun. The end.
yes i have heard your story many times. i have been reading his site for a whole now. i was simply trying to give a full experience for those that care to read it. im sorry your attention span is limited. ill make my post shorter next time.

I don't know if he was trying to be pejorative with his reply, but I enjoyed your long post and its little details.
I'm a bit disappointed with the ATT version of this phone from all accounts. There are really two big things for me. First, the top row of keys would be far more useful had it been left alone as numbers in my opinion. I'm sure I'll get used to it if I end up buying the Fuze, but it's still a disappointment.
The second issue is really just an annoyance, which may end up being completely null in the end. It's the Diamond back, and how prone to wobbling it seems it will be. However, without a tilting screen it is unlikely I would ever really be typing on it while on flat surface anyway (in fact, I normally pick up my Tilt to type even with the tilting screen). And ever since discovering Pocket Controller Pro I'm even less likely to even touch my phone while it's on my desk. So maybe the positives of the aesthetic Diamond back actually outweigh the probably minor negatives of its functionality.

It's odd, my Fuze actually sat on a table and stayed in one position, didn't lean either way, just sat there with the way the back was. I had no problems with it. Also, I'm surprised to see you didn't like the symbols on top, most people I've spoken with (myself included) like the functionality of the symbols. Oh well, to each their own.
Which store in Milford? I used to live there but i'm in college in NYC now. At the Post mall or next to the Starbucks and stuff?
yes the one in the mall. the one by starbuks had a guy that was going for the training but as far as i know there was no test phone at that store. which is weird cause that is the bigger store.
and also i did test typing with the diamond back and it in fact did wobble when typing on a flat surface. though ur right u probably would just hold it rather than type on a flat surface.

Can you guys please tell me:
Did the phone make that shutter noise when you took a picture?
I find that noise annoying when using a camera.
thanks!

Even if it does, you can remove it.
With 3rd party software or with a feature that is built-in?
There are countries passing out laws that a camera on a phone must make that noise so people in the area know a photo is being taken. I was just wondering if AT&T Fuze was on that list.

if the phone is on silent it wont or im sure you can do a tweak or registry change anyway
all right, thanks!
A friend of mine got the nokia n82 with a 5 MP camera. The problem that he finds with it is that the camera makes that noise through the speaker when he takes a picture with it. Even when his phone is on silent or when his headphones are plugged in. I don't think he's found a tweak for it yet.
I was just wondering if it was the same with the Fuze. If anyone who has it can confirm it, it will be greatly appreciated.
when "Joe" toke the picture for the business card it did make a flash sound. though i dont know if the feature can be turned off. but like posted before im sure someone here will be able to fix that no prob.
and on a side note has anyone got any new on the android OS working on the fuze.

Woah... I was unaware of this. The ATT Fuze is dark red in color? As in, not black but dark red or is that optional?
Damn, just googled Milford, CT, and it would be an hours drive... Guess I'll have to wait until release to play with the Fuze
P.S. To the guy with the camera questions, every HTC phone that I know of has had the option to turn off the camera sound...

That's the same question I was about to ask. When you say dark red, do you mean as in the Blackjack II?
yes i do mean a dark red like the black jack II. it was ruby, dark burgundy color. i maybe mistaken cause i was blinded by the sole fact that i has the phone in my hand. lol
ill probably go look at i again this weekend or today. but i dont want to seem like that weird customer that comes in and never buys anything. i work sales and i hate that BS. lol

Well there are two reasons I would prefer the numbers. First of all, it's more like an actual computer keyboard. That would make it more comfortable and normal feeling - at least in theory. Second - and more importantly - I type numbers more often than I type symbols. Having the convenience of not needing to press the function key would be very nice.
I suppose it could go either way though. I'm definitely going to try out the keyboard before I buy, and I'll likely try out the Sprint version (or unlocked HTC version, if I can get my hands on one for a few minutes without purchasing it) also just to make sure. With a fifth row, I'm sure it's an improvement over the four rows on my Tilt no matter which configuration though, so it's not even close to a deal breaker. Just a little disappointment.
Out of curiosity, why would you prefer symbols? I really can't think of a reason why they would be better than numbers, so I'm wanting to know from someone who has that opinion.

i think most people don't mind the number PAD because you can press Fn twice to do a number lock. And since the numbers are grouped together, theoretically it's easier to type series of numbers...ie. phone number
i didn't like the fact that 5th row # was removed (they added that 5th row for THAT REASON!), but then I can see other people's point as well...oh well, i've come to accept that fact, as long as Fuze doesn't make us wait any longer

So I read that and it sounds a lot like an Apple iPhone lover trying to find fault in this phone. Anybody who owns the Captivate, can you possibly check this and update us on this ?
I'd read the comments for that article.
and
http://androidforums.com/samsung-ca...vate-death-grip-issue-similar-iphone-4-a.html
The issue can be replicated on almost any phone in certain conditions. Its really not an issue to be concerned about.
I've noticed that my Captivate is hovering around 2-3 bars constantly. It rarely hits 4 or 5 bars unless I'm right near a tower.
I have the body glove case on the phone as well and this is still occurring.
Mine shows 4 bars on the table, in hand it drops to 3 bars. If I press it into the palm of my hand and put an actual "death grip" on it, it goes to 2 bars. Nothing to be concerned about as far as I'm concerned.
Looks like it is an issue, possibly worse than the iphone 4. There's a new test on youtube about it. I can't post links until my account is verified. Search "samsung captivate." Many phones are tested (captivate is around the 5:20 mark):
It dropped from 3 bars to zero. Yikes! Still though, this was a very tight grip test, which no one uses. I would like to see just a casual grip test. According to at least one video I saw, on the iphone, if you put just one finger on that spot on the left side, it will drop.

Is it this video? Don't be too concerned with the bars. Bars are just a vague estimate of signal strength (it's probably gamed by the manufacturer). I'm interested in real-world performance. There's another video on here (or maybe androidforums) where a user shows the bar drop during the "death grip" and then runs speedtest.net to show that the downstream performance is almost identical. If the data performance suffers or I drop calls when I hold the phone, it's a problem. If all that happens is the signal meter drops a little, I don't care.
I'd be interested to see if the issue Techno Buffalo had can be replicated on the other Galaxy S devices. IIRC, the Captivate is the only one with a metal back cover.
Yeah, that's the one. Good point about the bars...
Like the iPhone 4 it's not really a big deal. Most people will never replicate the circumstances needed for this to happen in daily usage and the ones that do probably will do it on purpose to make a stupid video......

Seriously. Who holds phones like that? I love how he was dragging all the widgets around on the Evo with his palm. Hulk no get reception on Hulk's iPhone 4. Hulk smash!
I've tried holding my phone in 20 different ways and cannot make the signal go away. The problem with the iphone is NOT the same as just putting the captivate under something so it doesn't receive the towers as well. Captivate is fine.
All phones lose signal in a phone specific "death grip". The difference between a well designed phone and the iphone 4 is how awkwardly you have to hold the phone to lose reception. On the iphone 4 you lose reception holding the phone in a way that is normal for many people. Well designed phones don't lose reception while being held in any natural position.
I held mine the way you naturally would in the left and right hands and saw maybe a 1 bar drop out of 10 tries.
If you completely cover the back with your hand you can make it drop a couple bars (but no **** why wouldn't it you are covering the entire back lol). And by 'a couple' I mean exactly 2. Thats the most I could get it to drop any way I held it.
Also if you grip the bottom nice and tight, and make sure that your palm is making 100% contact with the back you can get it to drop 1-2 bars.
I made 10 test calls with the captivate and the most I can make it drop is 2 bars, and even when I dropped from 2 to zero bars it wouldn't drop the call.
As long as it doesn't drop the call I don't care how many bars it shows. Also I think that they are calculating signal strength based on data (upload and download) and voice. From what I saw I think the bar drop is from data upload speeds decreasing.
I'd like to hear if anyone can actually drop a call from this. I can't but service is okay where I am lowest I hit was 2 bars without the grip.
i get 4 - 5 bars normaly. When i apply the death grip i drop 1 bar... btw the death grip you give an iphone 4 and a regphone is totally diff. The deathgrip for the iphone 4 is casually holding it in your left hand. For normal hands one is required to strangle the phone. With the extreme death grip i got it to drop one bar. I have huge hands too...
I don't think the problem with the iPhone 4 is the normal attenuation problem you have when you put something like your hand over an antenna to attenuate the signal. With the iPhone 4 you are actually physically touching the phone antenna and shorting it with the other antenna using your skin as a bridge. The "death grip" for the iPhone 4 can be as simple as putting your index finger across the black gap between the antennas on the lower left corner. That's why Apple's $30 rubber band works.
I've been in high-signal areas all day so I haven't really had a chance to see how much of a problem the signal drop is when you have your hand over the bottom slider plate. I lose 1-2 bars, but I'm not getting any statistically significant difference using speedtest.net.
I hope nothing happened here, but my Inspire just slid off the back of the couch and feel about 3' onto a lightly carpeted wood floor. No scuffs or screen damage, but suddenly my signal strength seems to be in the crapper. However that could just coincide with AT&T twaddling around with expanding their 4G coverage. So I'm wondering if it's just my imagination, or do I have a problem to worry about?

Check to see if the SIM cover isn't cracked. If im not mistaken, the antenna is located there and the wifi antenna is located on the battery cover. Try to remove and reinsert the SIM cover to see if that helps.
No worries there, I just dropped my phone to the concrete floor from 4ft...
It landed with its corner, and spun a few times.... (horrible sight to see)
phone still functions, screen didn't crack (although there is a very tiny nick on the screen which I can't really see after I put on a new screen protector, the old one is messed up, of course), and everything works, just that there are some minor scuffs on the phone now
I gotta say, this phone is well built, and if this had happened to my old Touch Pro.... man, the phone will be gone already.
here is a picture to prove that the speed is still great!
Thanks for the replies. Turns out everything is alright. Must have been a problem with the tower that happened to coincide with the drop.
I had ill effects after a slight drop and it turned out to be a bad SIM card. I went to the AT&T store, they pulled it out, put it in their tester, came up with an error, swapped me out and I was out the door in less than 5 minutes.
With all the years we have had AT&T, I still can't see where people have room to complain about "bad customer service". We have yet to see it and have this account with 5 lines for 5+ years.
Oh well...

Well the bad customer service isn't when they exchange you a .003 dollar defective sim card... it is when they sell you a '4G' phone that is 3G............

At least they don't sell you a 4g phone and charge extra every month for it when the nearest 4g is 100 miles away.
They all have their issues.
I've had plenty of drops although my inspire is protected with an Otterbox Commuter. Not a single scratch, only thing is that it unseats my SD card on occasions so I have to pull off the case & cover and push it back in. A minor annoyance but well worth it.

Just to play devil's advocate, how are they to know where you live? I have been to many different ATT stores that aren't in my town.
As for the address showing up in their system, I'm listed at my house but I currently live 355 miles away at college; they can't just take your word or assume you know?
Nome the less, I would hate to be charged for 4G.

hey guys i was very upset that i had to turn my Wifi calling in order to check my email, call or even text someone at home. i was looking on what could be blocking the antenna so i decided to take of my body glove, then i removed the back cover, then on the bottom by the speakers i noticed a piece of "tape". (mine was blue and my co workers was black) i removed it and turn my phone off and guess what, im writting this without using my wifi and my text messages are going through fine since i texted my co worker to remove his "tape/sticker"......can anyone else try this....ill try to post some pic tomorrow of what "tape/sticker" im reffering to even tho it should not be too hard.
I noticed that too, already partially damaged from the cover being removed before I even got the phone. It is indeed safe to remove?
i just send a lg rep what i noticed, so far i have had no issues, my co worker keeps texting to test and so far we have noticed a improvement.
Huh, interesting just removed mine as well. It is the really thin plastic that is used to protect something before it is sent to consumer, like what you would find on a tv or kitchen appliance. Guess they forgot to take it off or expected us to do it. I get signal at home so I am gonna report back once I go too school bc reception is there is awful and I am finally getting a bar when I normally didn't.
Nice post!!!!
Ok mine was black tape... i just popped the cover off pealed it off and laying in the exact same spot it was when i read this post i went from 2bars to 3bars.
Coincidence? Hmmmmmm
Thanks though, never noticed the damn tape....thinking maybe it did help... normally where i sit and lay my phone on my desk here at home i float between 1-2 bars, same place it has 3 now...
Wow thanks for the info! I too was curious as to the purpose of it, but feared if I removed it there would be consequences lol
i see it but im not touching it. just gives tmobile another reason to screw you over.
no, you still have a 14 day trial. is like taking of the screen protector that comes with the phone and have tmobile not taking it back because of it. besides a close source says it should be okay.
Really? TMo will voide warranty for a piece of plastic tape that doesn't say "void warranty if removed" just peel it off.... lol

It seems odd that a thin plastic tape would affect signal, but I saw a solid 1 bar increase as well. It appears the tape is directly over the antenna.

Yep as did I! Phone seems better now signal wise, and true, data / sms / mms is behaving now? I dunno... maybe it's us wishing for better signal by removing tape so hard that it actually affected the earths EM field allowing for one more bar of signal.
and people with iphone thought the death grip wasnt real until they got a free case from AtTT.
I have the worst luck ever! Just got my S4 and after opening i noticed some dirt on the home key. After i tried to get it off i found out its actually scratches and small holes like if has got stuck under a machine or something. To make it worse there is also a small dent on the lower right side.
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Dent is the bright point on lower right side
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Luckily i order this one from the web so we can return it without fuss (i would hate to have a phone with scratches on day 1, usually i never drop my phones and keep them top shape, i'm a perfectionist hehe) but i been waiting for ages for this phone so i couldnt take it any more and went out and bought one from the store and gambled this one is without scratches as far as i can see. Hopefully no hardware error but lets see by tomorrow hehe
I have had really bad luck with phone as of late, my last S3 had hardware problem and kept rebooting right out of box so i had to exchange it. Hope the circle is broken now. Any way just wanted to let of some steam here
yea but sending most devices back they require it to be in mint condition and if its not you get charged full retail for it so i wouldnt send it back
Unlucky. I'm very happy I have no issues at all with screen parts or physical build, except for a battery that seems to drain too quickly (yes most everything is off, and no, it's not the media server bug).
I would take it back. New products are supposed to look new, not used or abused.
I feel ya, my S4 came with yellow tint. Had to exchange it and still received a yellow-tinted screen. Refunded.
Totally, considering the cost (i pay cash) its not acceptable to have such obvious problems. The more people send back these phones the better they try to raise the quality bar i think. Its aweful to get a bad screen to, good that you refunded it.
For me the battery is pretty amazing so far, i charged it full and played with it like 40 minue using map, web, 4G, wlan etc and its at 96% so its far better than what my S3.
Will keep playing with all the new features feel like Christmas
One thing i dont like is Google Play downloads like 40 apps and put them under the apps. I use to have them well organized in maps. Wish they could fix it so that it restores it as it use to be on older phone.
Return it back .......im sure u will get new one ...
